  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 01:11 PM) Then WTF was with them moving Lind? Maybe they want to shift Encarnacion over to 1B/DH and sign either Pablo or Headley?
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 12:56 PM) My concern with Gonzalez is primarily the injury history. If the Sox looked at him and felt he could withstand the season, I'd love it if the Sox brought in Carlos Gonzalez. Yeah, the injury history bugs me too. Outfielder injuries is why I'm so big on the idea of having four starting outfielders and rotating them through the DH spot. Eaton, Avi and any of CarGo, Crawford and Kemp could benefit from the rotating DH spot given their histories. The more I think about the Dodger outfielders, the more leery I become.
  3. I think I'm starting to jump on the wagon here after some time to think more about the idea. A younger and cheaper CarGo could be a better alternative to what the Dodgers have to offer. He has enough pop ( though not necessarily ideal) to bat fourth behind Abreu and I like the idea of having a guy with some speed to get the line moving again after Abreu clears the bases with a HR.
  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 12:24 PM) The more and more I have thought about this, the more I believe Ethier is the least likely player to be traded. Among the three-headed albatross that is Kemp, Crawford, and Ethier, consider the following: 1) He's the cheapest least-expensive. 2) He also has the least amount of value. 3) He has the greatest positional versatility while being competent defensively. I just think the Dodgers are going to look into moving Crawford and/or Kemp prior to moving Ethier, and I think they're preference would be moving Kemp. I do not think the Sox should attempt to acquire Matt Kemp as I do not believe he would be happy as a DH nor should they want to pay him $20 mill a year to be a DH. Crawford is a bit different, as I could see some appeal to him, but again, you're likely going to have to include Danks and then another couple pieces as well, perhaps Semien (as he's a guy I think Friedman would value quite a bit). That's a price I would be hesitant to pay because I really, really like Semien, and I don't think Crawford is going to be worth it long-term. Frankly, even as I was hoping the Sox would be in on this early on, I now hope they stay away because I do not believe anything good will come of it long-term, and I'm not sure the Sox are close enough short-term to make it worthwhile. What stinks is that it seems to be the best opportunity to move Danks, but the only one that makes sense is dealing Danks for Ethier and I don't think that'd be a move Friedman would make at this point. You think maybe the Sox would be better off kicking the tires on a player like CarGo? He is younger, cheaper and a better fielder than what the Dodgers have to offer. I'm actually warming up to the idea of Cargo but I'll save further comment for the CarGo thread.
  5. OK, I give up. I tried voting four times and got an error message every time. I tried picking 4 players and then 3, same s*** every time.
  6. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 10:49 AM) Hey, look who reads Soxtalk. Hi Phil! Seriously, no s***. Throw Levine in there too. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 11:18 AM) Preference of which I'd want in a deal: 1. Kemp DH/OF 2. Crawford OF 3. Ethier DH/OF/1B I'm with ya on the preference order. Just taking a guess but if the Sox do end up with any of these three I think Ethier might just be the player. He would probably cost the least as far as what the Sox would send to LA.
  7. Gattis had a buldging disc in his back last year, thats just a bit concerning if I'm trading for him. I can go either way really, just depends what the Sox would have to give up.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 09:12 AM) Sox fans aren't talking about this just to talk about it. There have been multiple media reports suggesting that Oakland will trade him. The media is always suggesting things, doesn't mean its true and most of the time its not true.
  9. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 12:01 AM) Kemp would make sense if he wasn't a DH who is owed $110 million. I understand what you're saying. The way I look at it is the Sox would get money along with Kemp and to be honest I would rather have a 30 year old Matt Kemp for the next five seasons than a 35 (36 in December) year old VMart for next 4. Who knows, if the Sox get enough money with Kemp, he could end up costing the same money as VMart. Eh, just my little way of trying to justify it I guess.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 11:57 PM) Travis Snider, right? Oops, yes Travis Snider.
  11. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 08:22 PM) He's top 5 in the MLB at his position, which is arguably the most important position on the field, and is due to make only $20M over the next 2 seasons....I think Alexei gets a lot more in a trade than you think. I really hope you're right.
  12. I realize the Sox aren't looking for a RH hitter but Kemp would be my choice. I'm not sure what the Sox should offer in return or how much money to ask for though. Sign Panda or Headley, trade for someone like Snyder and the lineup changes tremendously.
  13. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 09:03 PM) Well it's definitely not Beane's MO to hand out 100 million dollar contracts... Lol, he doesn't have to. Oakland already has one opening in the starting rotation, Beane is not dumb enough to create a second. I don't think Beane traded Addison Russell for Shark only to turn around six months later and trade Shark for possibly less. Beane is much smarter than that. Just because a few Sox fans want the Sox to trade for Shark doesn't mean Beane wants to trade him. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 09:08 PM) He doesn't have to in order to keep Samardzija for 2015. He could then deal him at the deadline if out of the race or hold onto him, shoot for one more playoff run, and then still pick a draft pick up. Yup, sums it up. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 09:39 PM) nice way to look outside the box. I would have never thought of that. why not, if Oak doesn't get what they want, hold onto him until the end of the season, tender him and get a draft pick. Thank you sir, I agree.
  14. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 07:54 PM) I'm up for trading Ramirez as long as its in a good deal. Hes one of the biggest trade chips the sox have and will bring back some good prospects. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he is traded between now and the trade deadline. Ran across this article doing a break down of trading Ramirez. http://southsideshowdown.com/2014/11/08/wh...nding%20on%20FS That is an interesting read. If the Sox are truly trying to contend in 2015, they aren't trading a proven major leaguer for prospects. If the Sox are rebuilding, that's a completely different story. If I'm the Sox, I'm telling the Mets I want Zack Wheeler in return or call the cubs about Castro. Honestly, I don't think Ramirez is worth Wheeler but if the Sox are going to trade Ramirez without having an experienced SS to step in, then the Mets will have to pay. Otherwise, I'm perfectly happy with Ramirez in a Sox uni for the next two years.
  15. Just to offer a different perspective. Any Shark fans out there consider maybe Oakland wants to keep Shark? After all, they are Losing Lester and Hammel to FA so trading Shark doesn't make much sense from their perspective and could very well force a team to over pay in an effort to acquire him. After all, I'm sure Oakland wants to contend in 2015 as well. Just a thought...
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 05:36 PM) Anyone think kW finally gets his man again, and ichiro comes off the White Sox bench? Griffey Jr and Manny would certainly think so. Let's hope JR has taken KW's Xbox controller away.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 01:59 PM) No way Rodon is better than Smarj? I don't know about that. In all fairness he did say "going to be".
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 11:26 AM) It would have to look like a Mark Texeira package... at least. Agreed, that was a hell of a haul. Take the Dodgers for example, IMO, negotiations start with Pederson, Seager and Urias.
  19. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 12:21 PM) *Ding Ding Ding* We've got a winner! Airplane or Hahn? I want the Sox to contend as much as anyone but for the reasons I listed, I'm not going to allow myself to get my hopes up only to have them come crashing down. It would feel too much like being a cub fan.
  20. QUOTE (spiderman @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 10:36 AM) You'd have to get a top ranked farm system to bite, and get their top 4 or 5 prospect's; even that, the answer is probably no. It does suck that the Sox have so much work to do, at both the minor/major league level to not waste the best years of Chris Sale. Thats the thing, the haul for Sale would be unprecedented. Its hard to imagine or put on paper what his true value really is because its really an unknown. I'm not against trading any player for the right package but with Sale, what is the right package? I'm not sure it exists.
  21. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 10:02 AM) Excellent post. Frame of reference is important. Most certainly agree! Very well said Vance!!!
  22. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 09:39 AM) If he was willing to take a discount, he would still be a Cub. That's why they traded him, they weren't ready to pay him top dollar long term Exactly, he wants to get paid. By the time Samardzija starts the 2016 season with his shiny new contract, he will be 31 years old and his contract will likely be 5 or 6 years. FA after 2015 will be his first, last, only and best chance to mamimize a long term deal, there's no way he passes up that opportunity. Giving up a top prospect or two for a one year rental is about the dumbest idea I've heard in relation to the White Sox so far this off season.
  23. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 08:53 AM) I agree with everything you said, even about Abreu. he was the most single handed reason what got everybody excited again in the sox. 2014 will be the new platform and to build form there. the sox can make the playoff next yr and I am sure next yr the fans will be there in the stands. if the sox makes the right smart moves. not the quick fix one. I just hope the sox don't waste the farm as KW has done or did. That's why I'm so against the idea of trading for Shark. IMO, some folks are just high on the local boy but I can assure you the local boy is not interested in giving a local discount. He will go to FA and accept the highest contract. Shark is NOT a pitcher the Sox should even inquire about.
  24. Found this hilarious little nugget at mlbtr.. "Cafardo says he got “a minute of straight laughter” when he asked if the White Sox might trade Chris Sale." That's a lot of laughter. Sorry BoSox fans, guess you won't be trading for Sale after all.
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 08:48 AM) I think you mean 16 games under .500, but they probably averaged 3-6 games under .500 for two-thirds of the season. Actually, 73 wins in 2014 is 8 games under .500. Were both wrong.
