  1. Good grief MLBTR is getting bad. All they did was regurgitate what's already been speculated and written about by sports writers. Talk about redundant.
  2. I would have guessed Lind could bring a better return than Estrada. Shows how little I know.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 1, 2014 -> 12:39 PM) A $40 million payroll boost takes us pretty darn close to $100 million, maybe a tiny bit over. Not to say it will happen but its definitely possible. I can't see how anyone would say it isn't possible at this point.
  4. QUOTE (scs787 @ Nov 1, 2014 -> 12:22 PM) He had great control in 2013 when he only walked 4 in 25.2 while striking out 28. That said I certainly wouldn't rely on him as a back end of the bullpen guy, nor would I sign him for 2M....I'm not sure if he's fallen this far but I'd try to get him on a minor league contract or vet min, if that's even a thing. Between Petricka, Putnam, Guerra, and one of Webb/Cleto/Bassitt, I'm somewhat content with our RH relievers. If we add a RH reliever I'd prefer it be a proven closer like Robertson, Jansson, KRod, or Romo. That's kind of a small sample size though. He was pretty awful in a small sample size in 2014. I wouldn't sign him for 2M either. I'd offer him a minor league contract at best and if that wasn't good enough then I would move on. Erratic, injury prone pitchers are a dime a dozen.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 1, 2014 -> 11:59 AM) I actually agree with you guys on this, if the White Sox find the right fits, they could absolutely justify adding $40 million or so to the payroll, but the key is going to be getting something done successfully via trade first because $40 million spent solely in FA doesn't make this team a contender unless someone over-performs. Exactly. I think, for the Sox to make this team a contender it will take a combination of smart trades as well as one or two key signings in FA but the Sox cannot afford to do only one or the other. They don't have the farm for trades only and trying to fill all the holes through FA is insanely costly and still does not guarantee contention as the Yankees have proven. If the Sox were to add something like 40M+ this off season, it would put the payroll somewhere around, what, 100-110M? That's not unreasonable for a team that had a 128M payroll just a few years ago. If I remember right, Rock said the Sox are ready to spend for the right players so I'll wait and see what Hahn comes up with. Seeing as how the off season just got started, its too early to dismiss any possibilities.
  6. QUOTE (palehose23 @ Oct 31, 2014 -> 10:05 PM) I initially had a trade on there that I erased which was Danks for Edwin Jackson but I thought better about it. Forgot to include him on 2015 roster, my bad Its cool, I was curious is all. QUOTE (scs787 @ Nov 1, 2014 -> 11:28 AM) I still don't understand why this is so impossible. IF the players they're signing all make since I could certainly see it. Now the chances on them being able to "beat" every other team on these guys that make sense might be rather slim, but hypothetically speaking if their offers do get em I don't see them capping their spendings. Agreed. Its not like the payroll would rise to uncharted territory. If Hahn signs and trades for the right players to make this team a contender in 2015 I can see it happening quite easily. Seeing as how the off season just got started, I'll wait and see what Hahn comes up with before deciding yes or no on anything.
  7. Good gawd no. I remember how frustrating it was watching him trying to find the strike zone.
  8. QUOTE (oldsox @ Nov 1, 2014 -> 09:42 AM) Where did TUC go? If I remember right he took a brake from this place. Some posters can be out right dicks if you think outside the box. He did mention something about coming back in the off season at some point, I hope he does. This place could use some more unconventional thinking. A lot of times all you see is sports writers ideas regurgitated.
  9. Tonights game. Anderson 1/4, HR, RBI, R, K Basto 1/4 Smith 0/3, BB Olacio and Snoddy both sucked and not worth mentioning any further.
  10. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 31, 2014 -> 09:33 PM) If Montes de Oca was so good, he would of gotten drafted in the first 10 rounds. He's in high school and has had arm issues already. You don't pass on a guy like Rodon because of money issues. Montes De Oca is on the mend post Tommy John but I think there was signability issues with him. I could be wrong but I think he was committed to going to college so there was signability concerns which caused his stock to fall pretty far.
  11. Oh boy does this have the potential to be messy! "Yet, even if baseball could prove that tampering occurred, what type of penalty would even be appropriate? This is where it gets interesting. The Rays could claim that the Cubs’ actions caused Maddon to opt out — and demand a player as compensation. A good player, too, considering that the Cubs value Maddon enough to give him what is certain to be a monster contract. Think Javier Baez. Or Addison Russell." http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/joe-mad...-with-it-103114
  12. QUOTE (palehose23 @ Oct 31, 2014 -> 08:56 PM) Sign 1. Brandon McCarthy 3yrs 38 mil 2. Andrew Miller 3 yrs 26 mil 3. Luke Gregerson 2 yrs 12 mil 4. One of these 2 (preference in order) Nick Markakis 3 yrs 33 mil Melky Cabrera 3 yrs 47 mil (Move Avisail to LF left if you acquire Markakis) 5. Justin Masterson 1 yr 8 mil Lineup Eaton-CF Markakis-RF (or Cabrera-LF) Abreu-1B Avisail-LF (RF) Alexei-SS Gillaspie-3B Viciedo- DH Flowers-C Micah Johnson-2B Rotation Sale McCarthy Quintana Rodon Masterson Bullpen CL-Petricka Putnam Miller Gregerson Guerra Surkamp Carroll What happens with John Danks and his contract? Also, Noesi put up better numbers than Masterson so why replace Noesi? Not trying to nitpick, just asking a few questions is all.
  13. I'd kick the tires on Eveland. Not sure what he wants or what he's worth but I'd look into it.
  14. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 31, 2014 -> 07:03 PM) Not just Montas. Add Danish, Adams, and Luis Martinez to that mix as well. Best the pitching in the system has been in a loooong time. Danish, yes, but Adams and Martinez are down the line a bit. I'm excited for them too but they are still in rookie ball with a long road ahead of them yet. Nevertheless they are still worth getting excited over.
  15. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 31, 2014 -> 06:35 PM) The foundation of Sale, Quintana, and Rodon is scary special. It is and then throw the Montas' potential into the mix and it makes ya think, holy s***!
  16. Is it just me or could Drew Carey pass for Joe Maddon's brother? Maybe its the glasses...
  17. Chad Billingsley's 2015 option was just bought out by the Dodgers and is now a free agent.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 31, 2014 -> 05:42 PM) This would also seem to put even more pressure on Theo and Company to sign Shields and/or Lester. They can't whiff on free agency this time around. It's not quite an "all in" year because they have to wait on Bryant, but it's one year off for both the White Sox and the Cubs, in the sense both teams will be expected to compete for a playoff spot in 2016 barring major injuries to key players (Sale/Abreu). Ya make a good point here. Signing a 33 year old pitcher to a long term deal would be just like the cubs. I don't think the cubs could land Lester ( or Scherzer for that matter) but Shields would not surprise me one bit.
  19. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 31, 2014 -> 05:48 PM) alright, I can disagree. trading Q or even Sale will shoot the team in the foot. look at SFG and they main rotation. solid, solid even to have 3 world series rings. I said this last yr in mid season. the sox can go to the playoff with 3 above avg sp's. support that with 2 other sp's if it is needed to go 7 games. I would be really confident in the sox top 3. now the question is who is #3??? man when I first got on this site I had 1 brutal fight with almost everyone. I will not be attached and will trade anyone, only if the rtn will help the team to get to the next level. I still stand by that assessment. but the sox have that foundation now. just finish with the right smart moves. I remember last winter, TUC and I had gone back and forth over Sale. I said that for a big haul I would deal Sale in a heartbeat and TUC disagreed big time. Now that Q has solidified himself behind Sale in the rotation and with the Sox having Rodon to add to those guys, it would take a haul likely never seen in MLB history for me to go along with the idea. I look back and laugh how TUC and I went back and forth, I miss that dude and hope he comes back soon now that the seasons over. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 31, 2014 -> 05:49 PM) This is every Cubs fan problem. In love with their prospects, when in reality, 2 or 3 of them might actually be successful. Oh man you are not kidding! Seems every cub fan I come across wants to talk to me about cub prospects like I know them intimately and actually give a s***. They are oblivious even when my Sox hat is staring straight at them! Its cool to see cub fans have guys to get excited over but I really only give a s*** about the Sox and what they have to get excited about as indicated by the SOX on my hat.
  20. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 31, 2014 -> 05:32 PM) oh how I wish I could write what I wanted too. I say go for it. After all, this is Canseco and Madonna were talking about. Is it a reference to her playboy pics in the 80's?
  21. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 31, 2014 -> 05:25 PM) damn.... I really hate agreeing with you. but you are right. Hahn and company is doing a great job, and if anybody ever realize what I kept on saying in many, many post of get more viable options. do not let last yr happen again. now you have my answer as to why I keep spouting that. OH MAN THIS IS GREAT DISCUSSION. Stop agreeing, it makes for lousy drama! I love that the Sox are adding young talent through drafting and trades. I can see why a few posters have suggested trading a guy like Q and a few have even mentioned Sale. Now I'm not in favor of trading either but for a team that's rebuilding, I can see how one would be tantelized by the idea. IMO, that's too much like the cubs rebuild and as a Sox fan I'm really not interested in that long of a wait. Not that things are going horribly on the North side, they have some very good looking talent. I must admit tho, I don't allow myself to become attached to any players so IMO, anyone is available for the right price.
  22. QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Oct 31, 2014 -> 04:37 PM) ..you have NO IDEA the places that finger's been.... QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 31, 2014 -> 05:19 PM) psst. Madonna. Hmmm, makes you wonder if it was really an accident and why he didn't do it years ago...
  23. Comparisons to other farms is irrelevant. What really matters is whether or not the Sox farm is improving. If a comparison is to be made it should be this years farm to last years farm. Is the overall quality of talent trending upward, downward or stangnant? Is the farm able to plug some holes on the Sox team, yet maintain the overall quality? A perfect example would be the Cardinals. The important thing is that the Sox farm has improved compared to last year and I think Hahn and the Sox scouts will continue to keep that trending in the right direction.
  24. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 31, 2014 -> 07:23 AM) I know what you mean. this site is usually decent with their info and mock draft selections. when I was reading I started to think that this author had his head up a skunk arse. the sox picking a hs ss over 1 of the draft top college arms. well I like what this mock did, got me thinking and trying to figure out more of the players profile. Haha, love the skunks arse comment, good stuff right there. I take the the mocks with a grain of salt at this point since there's a season to be played before the draft. I just like reading the mocks because it gets me familiar with kids I've not heard of yet. Plus, its kinda fun watching names move up and down the list.
