  1. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 03:42 PM) Peavy- 7 starts at Kauffman Stadium. 6.42 ERA Funny you mention that. I was just looking at tonights matchup and it seems to favor Royals,IMO.
  2. Just watched video of Kolby Allard. That's a damn good curve ball for a HS prospect and he hit 94 with the fastball in the video. I wouldn't cry if the Sox grabbed him with the 8th pick.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 01:20 AM) He's 33 years old and has been horses*** of late. I just don't see why teams are overvaluing this guy so much. He does not 'project' as an 18 million a year guy. Crazy. I agree but Scherzer and Lester will raise the bar and teams are desperate for starting pitching so at this point its possible. Its supply and demand. I am very curious to see what kind of demand there will actually be for his services. Who knows. Shields could end up in a situation like Kyle Lohse a few years ago where few teams were interested and end up with a smaller contract than speculated.
  4. Some team will end up spending 18M per year in a deal with Shields based on his history and the likelihood of Scherzer and Lester raising the pay scale with their contracts. Regardless of what Shields signs for, I feel confident and happy it will not be with the Sox.
  5. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 09:26 PM) I was like you, I stop reading at these suppose trades or fa signing. I then found the article amusing. a reported playing the what if game and speculation on supposed movement of different players. no thanks. Absolutely man. I think there are some better and more interesting ideas on this board.
  6. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 09:20 PM) what is your problem are you Constipated or what. he is young and still learning the position. he is going to an outstanding hitter and his defense is weak. can he improve his "D" to stay at SS is the question. so I am guilty of wanting him to improve fast, I would love to see him playing in the majors. LDF, there's nothing wrong with being excited or even geeked over a kickass prospect like Anderson so go on with your bad self! Its not wrong...
  7. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 09:12 PM) Let's see, let me think...oh yeah, I hate the f***ing royals? I think that's it. Don't hold back man, tell us how you really feel.
  8. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 06:26 PM) Jackson was pretty good with us, at least for a portion of his tenure here. I think there is some history in place to suggest "Coop may fix em". Not saying I'm in favor of this move or not, but I can see some logic to it from both perspectives. My thing is, that history was in 2011 and Jackson has progressively gotten worse since then. Coop has enough on his plate as is. At least with Danks, we know we got and what he's capable of.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 03:47 PM) To be fair, we don't even know for sure that Fernandez has defected. So, for now, its just assumed Fernandez has defected. Thanks for clarifying. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 04:50 PM) if Fernandez is available. I hate to say this but you are right with the contract starting at his contract numbers. I wonder what people think his upside is? Not sure about his upside but I'm curious myself. I like that he's a contact hitter that strikes out very little.
  10. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 05:38 PM) interesting reading, this reporter wrote up his priority list. http://www.southsidesox.com/2014/10/20/700...-offseason-plan Interesting and then became head scratching once the Edwin Jackson for John Danks proposal came up. I myself have thrown some s*** out there but that trade proposal is flat out dumb, period. I immediately stopped reading when I got to that part of the article. Sox fans rely too much on the " Coop will fix em" bulls***. Coop is a good pitching coach but let's face it, if Coop could fix everybody the Sox pen would not have been so bad. I will take Danks over Jackson anytime.
  11. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 09:26 PM) Good idea and nice list. I'll give it a go... 1- C.Rodon 2- T.Anderson 3- F.Montas 4- M.Johnson 5- R.Ravelo 6- T.Danish 7- C.Hawkins 8- C.Sanchez 9- S.Adams 10- M.Davidson QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 03:29 PM) Well, I'll ask then...why do you feel Ravelo is your #5 prospect? There are legitimate reasons beyond the typical rankings of prospects (projectability, talent, position, age, etc), and I can understand why. First off. I like the fact Ravelo is 22 and hitting over .300. I like his BB/K ratio and I believe it it will continue to improve as he moves up and is forced to become better because of tougher competition, he might stumble at first but will adapt. I love his line drive/ gap power with all those doubles he hits and so I feel there's hope that as he matures over the next few years, some of those doubles will turn into more home runs. I can see him eventually being a guy that hits 20+ HR, 35-40 2B, .280+, 75BB with 75K. I admit I could be completely way off base but going by his current production, I can see this production from him down the road. Nothing wrong with having two first baseman to use the DH as a revolving door to keep legs fresh. OK, here's my would be rational on the list I made starting with #6. Danish- Personally, I have high hopes for him but with his future as a starter or reliever up in the air it was difficult for me to put him above Ravelo. The way Danish whips his arm does scare me although I hold out hope for him as a starter. Hawkins- I admit that Hawkins has the talent to be a big HR hitter and end up being a solid defensive RF. He strikes out way too much and bats in the .250 range at high A which is a concern despite him rebounding nicely from a horrible 2013. The high K's and batting average are the hangups for me and why I put Ravelo above him. Sanchez- I like a lot and he's the guy I'm pulling for to win the 2B job in ST. In short, I feel Ravelo has more to offer over all offensively. Adams- I love the potential this kid has but that's just it, he's a kid and a long ways away. Ravelo is a guy that, imo, will help the Sox sooner than Adams. M.Davidson- I have not lost hope but I think his 2014 season speaks for itself.
  12. If it were me, I'd go over. Then again, that could be an indication to take the under...
  13. So is it safe to assume Fernandez negotiations will start off with Castillo's contract and go from there?
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 12:30 PM) I don't think we disagree that he's likely to be underrated by the national publications, just saying that at 5, we feel he is OVERrated. If you're interested in having an actual discussion on it, that's cool. I do respect your baseball knowledge. QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 02:44 PM) I'd love to hear why you're capitalizing anal here? Whether it matches your opinion or not a prospect's position definitely plays a factor in the value of said prospect. If I have to explain it then you should not have joined the discussion. Furthermore, my opinion bares no relevance to a prospects value so there really is no point behind what you said. Here's a quick refresher. The thread says " Your current top 10". So I posted what I feel is the top ten, that is all. I stand by my choice of Ravelo at #5, right or wrong, so deal with it. I have no problem with those that disagree, but I'm not going to argue over it either. What I find hilarious is that out of all the critics that have questioned my #5, only one poster (LDF) has actually bothered to ask why I felt Ravelo should be #5. The rest just want to focus on how I'm wrong instead of trying to have a real discussion about it. No problem for me though, there's plenty of other threads around here so carry on....
  15. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 11:45 AM) Agreed; Bottom line is, if you look at the good start vs. bad start component and in general your season long statistics are more negatively weighed by bad starts and in general you had much more good starts, then over the course of the season you gave your team a much better chance to win. And in theory, each individual start has its own components that go into it so when you are going bad, often times it stays bad and that isn't necessarily an indication of future starts (you could be feeling off, have a mechanical hitch that can be corrected, etc). It is still a good season stat and telling stat but if a pitcher historically had some mechanical yips that would occasionally show up and cause bad starts, offsite by quick corrections and significant good starts, you could almost correlate that as a trend and identify a player with good value who you could pencil in a few losses and maybe not as good of an ERA (as it will be more largely skewed by the bad games) but in reality a guy who gave you much better overall win probabilities. The key in all of this is that people buy into the fact that when you are going bad you tend to be much worse then when you are going good to average and thus your bad will significantly outweigh the good, which means you need to have shown indications that in reality you tend to be a pretty high upside guy more often then not. One season could very well be an anomaly but over multiple seasons you can see there are guys that tend to be more I'll either give up 3 runs or less and do it majority of time but occasionally I'll give up 7 vs. the guy that will consistently give up 4 with a very rare 1 run game but also more rare 6 run games. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 12:11 PM) By the way, I should also point out we probably should be looking into a lot of other variables in those starts as well, to try to skim through lucky starts, etc. I think you'd want to see what his OPP BAA was, LD%'s, K to BB in those games, etc to see whether he truly was pitching good or are we talking about him getting lucky in a few more starts, etc. Just looking solely at the ERA of those starts isn't enough. I think its quite possible that Danks 2014 season was the year he transitions back into what he was pre-injury. He did show some fleeting glimpses of hope throughout the season while rebuilding the endurance in his arm. I think too many fans ( including myself) are looking at the grass is green on the other side.... Dump Danks and let's trade for this guy! Let's sign this reclamation project, Coop can fix em! What if the Sox already have their reclamation project in Danks. He is, after all, only 29 with a rather successful career before his injury in 2012 and just gave the Sox 32 starts in 2014. My POV on this has changed and am willing to wait and see what Danks does in the first few months of 2015. If that means the Sox end up with four lefties in the rotation then so be it as long as those lefties are keep the team in the game and giving the team a chance to win. Danks is surely not the end of the world.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 11:50 AM) And there is pretty much no 1B prospect who is going to move the guy we have over there now off of 1B. Uh, yeah, not like Abreu couldn't move to DH to allow a younger and more agile guy to play 1B and give the team better defense... You guys are over ANALizing this. I simply believe Ravelo is underrated, that's all. Don't complicate it so much.
  17. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 08:26 AM) But reality doesn't work that way, lol. He did NOT have a 3.18 ERA because he DID have 6 dreadful starts. EVERY pitcher looks good when you remove all their bad performances. I know what you mean but basically Danks averaged one s***ty start per month over a six month season and outside of that one s***ty start, he was pretty good. I'll take that. I believe this is what scs787 is saying, and I agree. Maybe I just prefer rainbows and unicorns, leave me alone you hippo.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 18, 2014 -> 12:50 AM) But the royals only need that one run lead from the sixth inning on. Getting than one run lead off of Bumgarner is a different story. Its certainly possible, but I think the game 1 matchup favors the Giants.
  19. QUOTE (scs787 @ Oct 20, 2014 -> 06:53 PM) Also, since everyone loves when I cherry pick....Throw out his 6 truly dreadful starts and he had a 3.18 ERA for 26 starts (164 innings)....Call those innings luck if you must, but as a 4th/5th starter I'll take a guy who gets shelled once a month if he's also keeping us in games the other 4-5. His contract does change things a bit, so with that said I'm cool with trading him for a decent offer. Don't think we need to just dump him or that trading him should be a priority though. You make some very good points here. Obviously, when Danks was bad he was horrendous but a 3.18 ERA over 26 starts is pretty damn impressive. I knew he was pretty good outside of his bad starts but I did not think he was that good. Fwiw, I don't think you're cherry picking at all.
  20. Anderson playing SS tonight. So far he's 1/3, 2B, 2 RBI,K Bassitt pitching in relief. So far 2.2IP, 2 hits, 2BB, 3K, 0 runs
  21. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 20, 2014 -> 07:05 PM) I totally agree come spring, there are some question that will be answered. Johnson, Davidson, DV, additional pitching, fa's signing. its going to be a great offseason. Absolutely. I'm looking forward to it, if only we could get the WS over with... For some reason I think Hahn will come up with a few surprises that nobody has thought of.
  22. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Oct 20, 2014 -> 05:01 PM) Travis Snider for Tank. Hahn, this trade writes itself. Do it. It almost makes too much sense, especially since its been discussed here recently. I'm all for the idea, let's do this Hahn!
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 20, 2014 -> 07:58 AM) Given we are talking about one season, I really don't think you should move him to the pen just yet. Later maybe, but I'd have him do as much strength and conditioning work as possible this offseason, stay away from pitching, then come to camp in February on the starter plan. As 2015 goes on, if he's healthy but still can get it worked out, THEN you move him to the pen. Let's see if he regains his velocity, control and his confidence. If he does, then sure, return him to the Charlotte rotation but if not not then his best chances are in the pen. No matter what, he's going to have to put some kind of movement on that fastball because a straight low 90's fastball is not going to blow away too many hitters. Johnson has ALOT of work to do.
