QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 20, 2014 -> 11:06 AM) All of those lists are pretty spot on, IMO. Only gripe I would have is Roostifier hanging #5 on Ravelo, which seems too aggressive to me. But, aside from that, seems like we're all on the same page. Just my opinion but I feel Ravelo is being way under rated considering his 2014 season, he's just 22 and going to start 2015 at Charlotte.

QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 09:20 AM) I am hoping that this might be a good chance to redo the end of the yr top 10 prospect that someone started last yr. 1. Micah Johnson >>>> C. Rodon 2. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 07:13 PM) nah I have outlandish hope for Tomas playing there. Haha, gotcha. I'm still on the fence with Tomas. One day I like the idea and the next day I cringe at the idea. Glad its not my decision to make. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 07:18 PM) Our payroll was $59M this year? No, but that's the area its currently projected to be with the current players.

Maybe Cespedes prefers to work on his defense at the DH position...

Vanished from radar - the Erik Johnson enigma

QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 07:41 AM) I just don't believe that as an example. there has to be an explanation That's the million dollar question. Johnson lost his control and velocity so couple that with a straight fastball and erratic breaking pitches to begin with and you have the recipe for disaster. I don't have an explanation outside of what been proposed already. IMO, I would try him out in the pen for a bit in ST and see what happens. Maybe his arm just doesn't have the endurance necessary to be a starter. -
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 09:18 AM) Floyd is a candidate for a minor league deal, IMO. He had TJ that didn't "take," and was bleeding internally in his elbow by the end of his first start back. I just don't see any way I'd guarantee any number of millions to him until he proves his arm will hold together. Good point. I did not know the extent of his second injury, thanks for pointing that out. As a few others have said, a minor league deal would be the offer. If Floyd accepted that, maybe the Sox could use him out of the pen while he's recovering. Bullpen work might be a better option for his recovery and would allow him to build some value.

Arizona Fall League - 7 Sox prospects
BlackSox13 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
That's one of things about the AFL. Teams are sending some of their best young prospects and a lot of those prospects over lap at positions so they are rotated around so everyone can play. Good thing for the DH. It does suck for Anderson since he can use the defensive work but at least he is getting some time at SS. -

Anderson 1/2 and caught stealing. Basto 0/0 with a walk. -
Just thinking outside the box but am wondering if Floyd could be a realistic possibility if he ends up a FA. I seriously doubt the Sox go after any of the big named starting pitchers so I'm very curious about Floyd. A healthy Floyd can eat innings and give at least Noesi type numbers, if not better. The Sox could use a RH staer and Floyd could use an opportunity to rebuild his value. Floyd would also be rather cheap and allow the Sox to spend money on a few hitters and arms for the pen. Its just a random thought really and wanted to see what the rest of the board thought. Obviously he's not anyone's first choice but could be a viable option.

Tonight: Anderson is the DH batting 2nd while Basto is the 1B batting 9th. No Sox pitchers are scheduled. -
Vanished from radar - the Erik Johnson enigma
BlackSox13 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 18, 2014 -> 10:05 AM) I am going to use this thread of vanishing from the radar. there are 2 that comes to mind. of course Erik Johnson but I would like to add Matt Davidson. I would really like to see how they come along in spring training. At this point, I think Johnson and Davidson are different. There's no doubt Davidson was bad but he did show power, some ability to walk and has history of being a better hitter than what he showed in 2014. Could quite simply be a down year. Johnson just flat out s*** the bed, crawled into it and died. The only bright spot to Johnson's season was that it came to an end, lol. Dude was just horrible all the way around. -
QUOTE (shysocks @ Oct 17, 2014 -> 11:57 AM) Also, KC has managed exactly one blowout in the whole postseason. They aren't shoo-ins. Agreed. I think the Giants take game one based on Bumgarner matches up better against the Royals offense than Shields against the Giants offense. Just my uneducated opinion of course.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 17, 2014 -> 01:00 PM) Nice, repost this in the PHT thread where we're currently arguing about Rodon being in the f***ing bullpen or some crap. Dude, I actually laughed out loud when I read this. Your sarcasm has style!
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 17, 2014 -> 04:06 PM) That has been the point I've been arguing all along. View him as a six year asset, which is perfectly fine, but don't waste one of those seasons in the bullpen. Absolutely. Rodon is a starter and will remain so unless he proves he is not and that is a long way away. People are just too damn eager to open the Christmas presents. Patience!

QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 17, 2014 -> 01:34 PM) re: 1. why? i like to hate and hold grudges. i get bored quickly. 2. you can not use a what if to prove a point or an discussion. 3. yes there was, all the way to the day of the draft. many had the sox not drafting Rodon b/c of the history. 2 thing pervented from happening 1. Hahn believe he could get it done. 2. salary cap and the new drafting rules. re: why worry about Montas now. let him develop. he may still be a starter. 1- 2- the point is valid. If the Sox truly had fears about Rodon having Boras for an agent they really could have signed someone else. The Sox could have said they wanted to take a player (Finnegan/Nola) to sign at or below slot to use the money in future round in the draft, but the Sox did not. They stuck to what they had said all along which was they were going to sign who they felt was the best player available regardless of that players agent. Its obvious Hahn and Jerry are not living in the past and that's the point. As for Montas, that's what my post was about. There is no reason to push Montas. All I'm saying is at Montas' current pace, I can see him possibly being ready to push himself into the rotation in 2016, but by no means do I want to see him rushed. How long it takes is how long it takes. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Oct 17, 2014 -> 01:45 PM) This discussion is ridiculous....what if we can't afford a pitcher who hasn't thrown a pitch in the MLB yet in 5-6 years because he's really good? Really? This is what some of you guys worry about? Unless you have a crystal ball nobody has any clue what will be going on at that time so there's no point in worrying about. If Rodon earns a $100+M contract it can only be a good thing for the White Sox organization, any other thinking is just flat out unnecessarily negative. Heck let's be honest, we don't even know if we will have the same owner in 5-6 years. Anything can happen so relax and just cross your fingers Rodon lives up to his hype. Exactly. The kid hasn't made his White Sox debute yet and some are already worrying about s*** 4,5,6 years down the road? Just silly. When Rodon is ready, the Sox will find him a spot in the rotation asap. The Sox FO is a lot different from other FO's that spend too much time thinking about a players clock, when it starts and for how long. QUOTE (oldsox @ Oct 17, 2014 -> 03:43 PM) Re: Cargo. There is a Colorado based Blog called the Purple Row that writes some pretty good stuff. They certainly are not afraid to criticize the Rockies. They just started a series of ranking their players 1 through 45. They are now down to #38. Cargo was # 41. He had a cyst removed from his finger and major surgery on his patellar tendon. Plus, they had to remove some junk from under the knee cap. Don't ask me how they do that. My point is that his health is a major issue. Thank for sharing this. This bolsters what some of have been saying about CarGo's health concerns. This does not mean he will never play at a high level again, just worth the $53M risk over the next 3 years. Colorado can keep that contract.

QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 17, 2014 -> 12:54 PM) with the salary cap on draft picks took a lot out of the negotiating for more money. still do you really want to take that chance? well obviously you do, but you can not denied there is history. and if some want to key on it, you can not fault anyone. That history was between KW and Bora's. Let it go and move on. The Sox easily could have drafted Finnegan or Nola if Boras really was an issue and probably could have gotten Finnegan or Nola for slot or under instead of going over to get Rodon. This shows the Sox have no fear of Bora's as they have shown in the past. QUOTE (BaconOnAStick @ Oct 17, 2014 -> 12:54 PM) As of now the White Sox have nothing to even pin hope on in the pen and it's not like we have any reason to believe Miller or Robertson will be in the Sox price range. Montas has a huge fastball and a very good slider. Why not just try and cash him in now? Especially when the pitching depth through the org is improving so rapidly. Montas has tremendous potential and value as a starter so why inhibit that by making him a reliever? Montas only had 5IP in AA,lol. Its easier to find a reliever then find a potential front line starter. Have some patience and let him develope. This is baseball, not Christmas. Its quite possible the 2016 rotation is Sale, Q,Rodon, Montas, Noesi/ Danks.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 17, 2014 -> 12:07 PM) 1) Rodon is just as likely to stay here as he is to leave. 2) Montas as of right now is not headed to the bullpen. Agreed on both counts. If Rodon's agent was an issue the Sox would have drafted someone else. The whole Boras thing is old for f*** sake. Hahn is the GM now and has said he has a good repore with Boras so its time to move forward from the KW vs Bora's days. Montas just made his way to AA at the end of the season so to pencil him into the Sox opening day roster is just a bit premature.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 17, 2014 -> 11:28 AM) Giants are unwilling to play Belt in LF so your rationale is flawed. I figured if the Sox would play Adam Dunn in RF they'll play just about anyone in LF. EDIT: I was just throwing s*** out there. Flawed? Its rumored the Giants want Susac behind the plate and move Posey to first and with Morse going to FA, Belt going to LF makes absolute sense. I realize Belt is not a good defender in the OF but if the Giants like his bat then LF is the only place for him. I agree about your logic with the Dunn reference. Hell, the same could be said about Tank who was painful to watch in LF at times. But, if the Sox did make a trade for Belt I'd be willing to bet he and Abreu would be switching between 1B and DH so the LF talk is irrelevant if Belt was a part of the Sox team. I stress again, I absolutely love the idea of Belt and I give you credit for throwing that s*** out there but what it comes down to is the Giants do not need to get rid of him since a hole will be created by Morse leaving. The Sox would have to over pay. Edit: Lighten up, Francis.

QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 10:31 PM) Erin Andrews voice drives me crazy--and not in a good way. Agreed. Her voice is just nasal! Annoying as all hell. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 17, 2014 -> 12:29 AM) I love how Peavy is out there hugging him before he even gets to 3rd base. Hey, I need to go touch home first. Technically it really didn't matter since the winning run had already crossed home plate. I don't blame Peavy one bit seeing as how its his first World Series. I'm happy for Jake.
-
I have pointed this out before and will point it out again. LF is likely to open up with Morse going to FA, so Belt will be playing LF should Morse sign elsewhere which is very possible. Unless the Sox are willing to over pay big time, Belt will be playing ball for the Giants year. Belt, as much as I like the idea, is a pipe dream. Simple as that.

Arizona Fall League - 7 Sox prospects
BlackSox13 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 10:49 PM) I wouldn't be surprise if they start experimenting with him in the outfield. with his errors, I was wondering 3b. Many scouts say second base if he doesn't work out at short. Second is closer to first base so it could help alleviate the throwing errors. IMO,if he cannot play SS then play him at second. No matter what, the Sox will be sure to find a place for his bat when the time comes. I still have hope for TA being a SS. Just going to take some time and patience with the young man when the time comes. If Sox fans were able to endure a middle aged Jose Valentin then they can bare the growing pains of a young TA. -
QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 10:29 PM) Danks was one of 21 AL starters with 20 quality starts this season. Another year away from surgery, fewer crappy starts, and a better offensive team should help him a lot. This is true. Adding a better defense will help as well.
-
Way to go Giants! f*** the Cards! Royals vs Giants should be a fun world series to watch. I'm looking forward to it.
-
The problem with moving Danks to the pen is it pretty much kills any chance of trading him. Nobody will pay 14M for Danks as a reliever so the Sox will definitely be stuck with him through 2016. At least as a starter there is some chance of him getting traded if he can get off to a good start in 2015.
