  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 11:10 AM) My entire goal with the posting of this is for you to cheer against the Royals and for the Cardinals...part of the master plan. I'm guessing War & Peace, Ulysses, Moby Dick and Infinite Jest weren't on your summer reading list. Of course not, he was delivering milk. Duh.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 10:20 AM) I'd be OK with an argument that Thompson's FLOOR is lower than Danks' FLOOR, though I honestly think those two things are interchangeable at the moment. But an argument that Thompson's CEILING is lower than Danks2's FLOOR is, IMO, wholly inaccurate. At the time, I don't see it as inaccurate. Trayce continues to stuggle at Birmingham and shows no signs of being ready to make the jump to Charlotte. If he does manage to make the jump to Charlotte, how long will he need to spend at Charlotte adjusting to better pitching before he might ready for a call up? Danks floor has shown to be a quality backup OF with some pop at the major league level and yet, so far, Trayce still struggles with AA. This makes it rather difficult for me to see much of a ceiling with Trayce, at this point. I really hope I'm dead wrong and should Trayce prove me wrong in the future I will happily admit it. But for now, IMO, his ceiling is lower than Danks floor. I hope he changes my opinion, I really do.
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 01:32 PM) Yup, he told us that last year right here. He prefers relief work, but he'll do what they tell him to of course. That was a great read, thanks for posting it. With his repertoire, he has the potential to be a nasty closer. I'm even more excited about this kid.
  4. Bassitt as a reliever is quite intriguing. I'm guessing with him pitching out of the pen he could gain a mile an hour or two on the fastball that would end up 95-97 range. That with his tight slider and slow curve ball gives him the potential to be a deadly reliever and possibly closer. I was really hoping for him as a starter but if he feels more comfortable as a reliever, great, the Sox need relievers.
  5. Hamilton, really? Here's the latest and greatest from the over paid, aging hitting that is clearly on the downside of his career... “We don’t necessarily play for the people in the stands,” he said. “We play for each other. We spend every day with each other. We have relationships with each other. We love each other. We fight for each other. That’s what we play for.” Full article here... http://rangersblog.dallasnews.com/2014/10/...he-get-it.html/ Thanks but no thanks. I realize the Sox want to contend but Hamilton is not the answer. Its just a bad idea no matter how you look at it.
  6. QUOTE (beautox @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 11:38 PM) Thank you. The fact that he is due 54M if he is traded limits his market especially when you bring into account his age and health but as eminor also points out thats where all the upside is Again a change in leadership from O'Dowd being a stalwart in they won't trade Tulo or CarGo now stepping downs raises the idea that both could and more than likely will be on the block because Colorado needs to need to open up space in the outfield and money in their payroll . As for the splits I really want to hear from sox fans on this board address how they would feel about Stanton or Rizzo on the south side based off their fears of splits. Stanton: Home - .282/.384/.558 - .942 Away - .259/.344/.522 - .866 Rizzo: Home - .274/.369/.476 - .845 Away - .233/.320/.423 -.743 Gonzalez: Home - .329/.387/.601 - .988 Away - .258/.314/.437 - .750 even with his drastic splits if you put them in a similar space as Rizzo that is still a huge get. The park factor difference between Colorado and Chicago is the best you could have in the league. Chicago being 125 and Colorado being 144. Going from the best hitters environment to the second best. For comparisons sake its like going from Miller park to Citizens Bank Park. What scares me about CarGo's splits is, are they a sign of him trending downward? That's the $53M question. Then there's his injury history to boot. With the start of the off season around the corner, there's no point in being so focused on an over paid injury prone player. There's going to be plenty of players for Hahn to look into when the off season officially starts. Patience.
  7. My problem with trading Q is it literally forces the Sox to go after a FA starting pitcher to replace Q's production which is an idea that I'm not a fan of considering the ages of the best FA starters available. Q turns just 26 in Jan. I would love to have Puig, but the Sox staff is not strong enough yet to deal a pitcher of Q's caliper, not even for Puig and surely not if Anderson and/or Danish names are involved. Just my opinion.
  8. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 10:08 PM) Don't discount the value Alexei would have to the Dodgers. They need a SS. He would fit perfectly there. Oh I'm not, I'm discounting the value of Danks and Flowers.
  9. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 12:08 PM) Game 1 looking wet in Baltimore. Would be interesting if they had to play 5 days in row. s*** dude, I just looked at the weather and its supposed to start raining about an hour or so before game time. That's going to be a cold chilly game if they play it.
  10. So Danks, Flowers, Alexei and a PTBN is what it will take! Interesting read. I wonder if the Dodgers really are starting sour a bit on Puig. If they are I'm pretty sure Q is the guy they would be desiring in return... Not Danks and Flowers.
  11. Outside of a call up in 2012 where Trayce batted .280, he has always been in the low to mid 200's in BA and that goes from rookie league through AA covering 2009- 2014. IMO, as of right now Trayce has shown that his ceiling is below Danks floor. Trayce is 23 and struggling at AA while Danks at 23 was at Charlotte. At this point, the best one could hope for our of Trayce would be a backup OF. His low BA and strike outs are killing his value and potential upside. I know he's only 23 but seeing how Trayce is struggling at AA, how long before he earns a callup to Charlotte? Then, how long before he earns a callup to the Sox? If ever? I know I sound like I given up on him but a 23 year old batting .237 at AA and striking out 151 times in 595 plate appearances doesn't do much as far as confidence goes. To this point, he's just not a good hitter.
  12. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 05:01 PM) I have seen people suggest Corey Dickerson too. 2014 Home: .363/.415/.684/1.098 .467 wOBA 171 wRC+ Away: .252/.305/.431/.735 .319 wOBA 102 wRC+ Even seeing those, I'd be perfectly content moving guys for him because while I wouldn't expect him to put up a 171 wRC+ at USCF, I also wouldn't expect him to suddenly turn into the completely average, ordinary hitter he was away from Coors Field either. The same, can be said of Carlos Gonzalez but it has to be at the right price. If the Rockies wouldn't take "halfway decent" for him, I wouldn't bother trying to acquire him. As far as Rockies outfielders go, Dickerson makes a ton more sense and fits what Hahn has described. What do you think the Rockies would ask for in return that the Sox would actually be willing to part with? Assuming the Rockies would be willing to trade Dickerson in the first place.
  13. I agree with the rest of you, Eaton is the only player at this point and I would have no problem it.
  14. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 04:54 PM) I also see what Baltimore wants for Wieters. I would love to have Wieters but he's a free agent after the 2015 season and Boras is his agent so it would probably be safe to assume that Wieters goes to free agency and will cost a premium.
  15. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 12:33 PM) RE: CarGo -- because without those warts, he wouldn't be available at all. The high money is what limits his market, and our low payroll gives us a chance to play there -- to overpay on a contract like that using the equity that Sale/Quintana/Abreu's contracts have bought us and still end up breaking even from a team salary/production standpoint. His relatively young age and the nature of his injury history alos means he comes with considerable upside, if you assume a fully healthy year is a possibility. Given the Rockies change in leadership, a change in "direction" for them is more likely than ever, making it more likley that CarGo is on the block. I'm not sure I'm ready to jump on the CarGo train necessarily, but there's a logical argument to be made, certainly. Hahn has said he is looking at players for the long term to add to the "core". How logical of an argument can be made when factoring in things like injury prone, horrible splits and 53M owed in just a 3 year time span? I mean no offense to you when I say this but, its not a logical argument ... its illogical madness. That said, I do realize you are not jumping on the train and just having a discussion is all. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 02:49 PM) When you are starting Jordan Danks for a month or a month and a half, trading actual good prospects for GarGo makes even less sense. I'd rather they get someone they could actually count on to play 150-155 or more games. Not someone you hope at this stage defies what his history has shown. I think Hahn would certainly agree , as would many Sox fans including myself. There so many options for the Sox to either trade for or sign, why focus on a guy that's injury prone, horrible splits and owed 53M? Are we trying to help the Sox or the Rockies?
  16. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 12:37 PM) Of course they can be very wrong, buyt FWIW, the scouting consensus on Tomas is that he is very likely to be vastly overpaid and has a better-than-average chance of being the first truly big-time Cuban bust. From what I've read, a lot of guys think he's eerily similar to Viciedo, but with a bit more footspeed and a bit less arm. I'm completely on the fence with Tomas. One minute it sounds like a good idea and the next it does not. If the Sox sign him I'll trust in their scouting and if they don't I'll hope its a blessing.
  17. Is there a thread for the Yasmani Tomas sweepstakes? I know his current projections sound a lot like Tank but... The Sox have money to spend Tomas would fit the "core" age group the Sox have spoken of No compensation attached to signing him The Sox have a hole in the outfield to fill This seems like a signing right up the Sox alley. The only thing is he is right handed.
  18. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 11:57 AM) PREACH I must give you credit Joshua. I actually liked the idea of CarGo until you brought up his splits, then I went to look them up and noticed his salary for the next three years, I actually said out loud "f*** THAT!".
  19. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 08:58 AM) Clearly teams who are in the middle of the pack have no shot at making the World Series. Robin should be fired immediately for not stealing a lot more or a lot fewer bases. Thanks for the laugh dude, I actually did laugh out loud. That's what's great about baseball, there are multiple ways to get to the playoffs. Some teams slug the long ball, some teams are deep in starting pitching depth and others play great defense with speed. Its a great game.
  20. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 11:31 AM) Scherzer is probably going to go the way of many pitchers before him where he'll get 7 years and $200+ million while having an opt out after year 3 or 4. Essentially, if he's good, you don't get him very long, and if he's bad and gets hurt, you're even more screwed. I'm letting someone else tackle the headache that will be Max Scherzer. Yup, I get the impression that Scherzer isn't much of a thought in the Sox front office given the offer Scherzer has already turned to hit free agency and get paid. Scherzer is another name Sox fans should just forget about. QUOTE (shysocks @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 11:34 AM) In theory this makes sense, but the best free agent pitcher of any offseason gets the kind of titanic overpay that makes you say "That team will regret this" even as it's happening. This is well said. I was saying that when the Halos handed out those contracts to Pujols and Hamilton. I know they aren't pitchers but the point remains the same.
  21. After taking into account CarGo's splits, injuries, and the fact he's owed 53M over the next three years, I don't get why people continue to bring up his name. Can someone offer a rational explanation please. Shields is another name that gets brought up and yet makes no sense given his age and length of contract he will get. Maeda is another guy I wouldn't get my hopes up for. I'm really hoping the Sox don't waste their time on him.
  22. Nothing to get excited about with any of these guys. The only thing Engel did to impress when he was called up to Winston-Salem was go 9/10 in steals and that's it. Nothing to get excited about, not at this point.
  23. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 10:00 PM) Wait, was the Danks and Flowers for Puig thing NOT sarcastic? Not according to Rooftop Shots brother who lives in Orange County Ca. Its just a baseball fans opinion, that's all. Personally, I hope his brother is right.
  24. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 08:50 PM) Puig, Abreu, Ramirez, Viciedo, Nieto. Sign Tomas... try and do everything we can to sport an all-Cuban lineup Not enough room in the lineup for them all though. QUOTE (Rooftop Shots @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 09:23 PM) My brother lives in Orange County, and he says the same thing. His theory. He said after the 3 starters Dodgers need pitching and a catcher, and that Puig has a mind of his own inside and outside the clubhouse. LA getting tired of it and already have 3 proven outfielders and can unload Puig because of his salary as well as his antics. His theory, Danks ..Flowers for Puig and the Cuban connection of him and Abreu gets reconnected and helps his immaturity. Plus takes the place of Viciedo because he can field better. If Puig was a lefty...then maybe. But if they went after him, then we still have a left handed power bat void. Doubt it will all happen, but he told me "you heard it here first!". I would do this trade in a second! I doubt the Dodgers would but hey, I'm not the Dodger GM so one can hope, right. I think that despite Puig's antics, he's worth more than Danks and Flowers. Danks, Flowers and Alexei for Puig might be closer. QUOTE (BaconOnAStick @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 09:31 PM) If Flowers and Danks gets us Puig I will literally eat Rich Hahn's butthole live on TV. Yeah, I'm with you for sure! QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 09:37 PM) Whatever hallucinogenic mushrooms are being ingested, count me in with Rogen and Franco on that one. Again, I'm in!
