  1. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Oct 4, 2014 -> 12:49 PM) You do not Cargo on the Sox, you think you do but you don't. He's getting old, he's often injured and he can not hit away from Coors. Not to mention that he owed about $12 million annually till 2018. We just cleared all of our bad contracts, and now you want the team to acquire another one... Tisk Tisk. Sorry CarGo fans but Joshua is spot on here. CarGo batted .160 away from Coors and batted .336 at Coors. To me that tells the tale right there. Plus, as I pointed out yesterday in this thread, CarGo is owed 16M in 2015, 17M in 2016 and 20M in 2017. Here's the link to baseball reference where I got the CarGo stats from. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...shtml#contracts After seeing his splits and salary, there's no way I would take CarGo and dare I say I would rather have Danks as far as bad contracts are concerned.
  2. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Oct 4, 2014 -> 12:40 PM) Heyward is not that young, he's going to be 26 at the start of the season. And if the Sox just play solid and competitive baseball, the fans will come back, albeit slowly. Heyward will not turn 26 until August of 2015. Oh yeah, Abreu is 2.5 years older than Heyward but it didn't stop the Sox now did it? Heyward fits into the age group that Hahn is looking for in a core of players.
  3. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Oct 4, 2014 -> 06:13 AM) What did that $127M payroll bring the sox? And just because you have a lot of room to operate from a financial standpoint, you don't have to spend it all in one off season. What I am trying to say is that having a big payroll doesn't guarantee success and just because you have money to spend, you shouldn't blow it all immediately. I personally think that the team is farther away from contending than most people. I think that 2015 will be another building year (The 'goal' next year is .500 in my opinion and it's what I expect) and the team won't be competitive till 2016. I don't want it to sound like I am overvaluing draft picks, but they are very crucial to the health of a franchise. Look at teams like the Cardinals for example. The Cardinals are the best organization in baseball in my opinion and they are always in the mix for the title because they have a constant stream of home grown talent coming up from the farm, you never see them sacrificing draft picks ever, unless it's for a player that will bring them over the hump. The Sox need all the draft they can get right now, yes the farm has improved but it still has a ways to go. The Sox shouldn't be relying on FA to fill holes, that's what got the team in the position it is now, we need those draft picks to give us those internal options. I am not saying that I don't want the team to sign any FAs, I just don't think that they should one if a draft pick is attached. I love watching the Sox win just as much as you do, I just want them to start looking towards the future more as opposed to just the following season. I agree with everything you say here, especially about the Cards and their farm. Problem is attendance. Sox fans have shown they will not come out and watch mediocre baseball. In 2007 the average attendance was 36,511, in 2014 it was 20,896. Every year it keeps going down. It can't be easy getting TV adverts when the camera shows all those empty seats. Adverts must be thinking " who the hell are we targeting?" and judging by the declining TV audience I'd say there's something to that.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 4, 2014 -> 01:25 AM) I think we will go after someone like heyward, parra, lagares, Cain, dyson...etc. josh Hamilton should not be in the plans. The only problem is the advantage of strong outfield defenders isn't as pronounced at USCellular. Seeing the direction the royals are going in...we need to get Gillaspie viciedo and potentially avisail off the field and dhing. Of course, that's not possible...but one can easily envision a lineup of semien Johnson and eaton trying to emulate the athleticism of kc. Of course we also need Herrera Davis finnegan and holland lol. What do you think it would take to get a guy like Hayward? A down season and one year remaining til free agency should make Atlanta's expectations reasonable. Of course I would only do it if I were confident in getting Hayward extended. Hayward would bring great defense to RF and move Avi to LF where he's better suited anyway.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 3, 2014 -> 10:41 PM) I prefer tight picks. In short skirts with nylons.
  6. WTF happened? I'm stunned! I stepped out as the 6th was ending, thinking this game was over with Kershaw on the mound. Fuuuuck!
  7. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Oct 2, 2014 -> 07:13 AM) Lol sorry that didn't work out for you. oh and Go Cards! Funny, you don't come across as being all that sincere when you say "sorry". I'm not a fan of neither the Cards or Dodgers but for some reason I'm drawn towards the Dodgers so I suppose I'll be rooting for them. I'm really hoping for a Dodgers vs Nats NLDS.
  8. Woohoo! Come O's, let close this series out Sunday in Detroilet!
  9. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Oct 3, 2014 -> 02:45 PM) I can't stop smiling. I love the Tigers imploding. Even better that homeless-looking POS Joba blowing it. Same here. Talk about sporting some baseball wood.
  10. QUOTE (shysocks @ Oct 3, 2014 -> 02:37 PM) Does a three-run double count? Tigers trail 7-6. lololololol Yes it does! While not a HR I, like many Sox fans, will take it! Let's close this out O's!
  11. Thank you Delmon Young!!! f*** Detroilet!
  12. Oh, for a three run bomb right here! Come on Hardy!
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 3, 2014 -> 11:49 AM) he is hurt a lot more than "at times". The most games he has played in one season is 145. This is his career games played 2014 70 games 2013 110 games 2012 135 games 2011 127 games 2010 145 games 2009 89 games 2008 85 games the guy is only 28 years old and has missed a tremendous amount of time to injuries already And to add to that he's owed 16M in 2015 17M in 2016 20M in 2017 With his escalating salary and injury history, Colorado would have to send money or be willing to exchange bad contracts like Gonzalez for Danks. Even then, that escalating salary scares me and I would probably still want some money from Colorado. Yet, for some reason, I'm intrigued by the idea of Gonzalez playing LF in a Sox uni. Go figure.
  14. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Oct 3, 2014 -> 04:43 AM) I like you, that's why. On a serious note, that period of drafting from 2007 - 2011 is why the team has been in the position (Some might call it a rut) that it has been in. The team needs those draft picks to fill those holes internally. The team needs to continue collecting and developing amateur talent, and avoid signing guys with QO's just to fill a hole. They should only sign guys with QO's, if they think that it brings them over the hump in regards to a championship and in my opinion the team is still another year away from competing for the division. Baby steps... baby steps. Its not about just filling a hole, its about getting players to help this team win to be competitive. The Sox don't have the fan base to do a baby step rebuild like the cubs have been doing. Hell, the cubs are finding out that even their fans are growing tired of it and want a competitor. Again,I'm all for collecting young talent but this is a team that is currently looking at a speculated 2015 payroll of around 50M, a team that once had a payroll of about 128M in 2011. They have plenty of room on the field and in the budget to make this team competitive. I'm not saying the Sox must sign a player or two that have draft pick compensation attached to them, I'm saying it should not be ruled out, not at this point anyway. If Hahn put together a few trades and signed a few relievers, signing one or two FA could end up being the missing pieces to winng the division in 2015. I won't rule anything out. I like watching young players develope but I love watching the White Sox win!
  15. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 2, 2014 -> 11:14 PM) saw this on the rumor page. I also been wondering about it. a lot of posters have been saying that DV may not be on the roster next yr. ok, what will the sox? do, try to trade him? do they non tender him? does DV have any value what so ever? I mean lets really look at his stats. the key will be the hrs. I know the stat people will answered that the rest better than I, but he still has value. he is what 25+ or so. now for me, I have never been a fan of him. I would have entertain trades ideas several yrs ago. I would non tendered him this yr, if he can't be traded. Hahn was able to find homes for ADA, Dunn and Beckham so I think he will find one for Tank as well. We just need to remember not to expect the world in return.
  16. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Oct 3, 2014 -> 12:14 AM) The Sox need their draft picks. We don't want to go through another stretch like 2007 - 2011 from a draft standpoint. I find it interesting how you quoted my post instead of Wite's. I wonder why that is... I agree that we need draft picks to keep the farm going so that it can help feed the MLB team in the future. However, this team needs to continue improving if the Sox are going to get some butts back in the seats. The Sox don't have the internal options to fill the holes they have, not to make the team competitive anyway. So they just MIGHT have to sign a FA or two to fill those holes and try to make them a competitor or at the very least try to improve another ten games in the win column in 2015.
  17. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Oct 2, 2014 -> 03:27 PM) If evaluators are split between him being somewhere between Viciedo and Cespedes, I don't think we want that for $70 million. Yeah, being in between those two isn't overly impressive. Especially for the money. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 2, 2014 -> 03:34 PM) Going off of the fact that Hahn said he wasn't interested in Castillo because he was right handed, I will assume the same thing here. When I read Tomas's scouting report, I heard Dayan Viciedo. I think you're right. One Tank is enough for this team. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 2, 2014 -> 03:35 PM) Sounds more like $100 million. Yikes, never mind. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 2, 2014 -> 04:27 PM) Defined stacked? We have Jose Abreu (and Alexei but it isn't like he's a middle of the order bat). We don't have a lot of good hitters so I really don't understand why we are going to be so picky. I could understand if we had this good lineup and needed a lefty because it was all righties but right now we still have plenty of bad hitters. Garcia is young and right handed, but obviously we like his upside. We should be finding good hitters and good players period. Let's not look to far into the word shall we. Stacked, as in, a lot of right handed hitters. That is all. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 2, 2014 -> 07:15 PM) I wonder if Kendrys Morales would be a good fit. yeah I know who is agent is and last yr was a terrible yr for him stat wise. but I think he will come in ready for the season to performed if the salary is right. even in a 1 yr contract to rebuild his value. I see no problem with kicking the tires and see what he's looking for in a contract. Not the best option but not the worst either. A one year deal could benefit both Morales and the Sox.
  18. I know the Sox are stacked with right handed hitters but I would love to know what the FO thinks about Tomas. He's young and at the age that fits into the core they are looking for. Going by the link ss2k5 provided ( thank you again), Tomas doesn't sound like much of an outfielder so I'm not sure how much interest the Sox would have unless there was a platoon with he and Abreu switching off between 1B and DH.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 2, 2014 -> 02:47 PM) http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/scouting-yasmany-tomas/ Thank you very much. I just realized I posted my question in the wrong thread so I will continue the Toma's discussion in the appropriate thread.
  20. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 2, 2014 -> 02:19 PM) No, I got it. I just think you should be wishing for Gonzalez to come back How the hell did Gonzalez name get brought up? Writers are just like politicians. They spew nonsense in their own words to get the followers to, well, follow along. They all regurgitate the same crap, just in their own words and opinions. IMO, having a favorite sports writer is like having a favorite politician, pointless. Anyhoo. Anyone have scouting on Tomas? I'm not a member of baseball america. All I know is he is 23, RH, has power and not as good as Abreu.
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 2, 2014 -> 02:16 PM) Mariotti and Levine dont have comparable jobs at all. Levine is a beat reporter, Mariotti is a columnist/opinion spewer. they dont do anything similar at all, except write for a newspaper. Well, they used to both write for a newspaper. You completely missed the point...
  22. Once again, Levine regurgitating what's already known and been written about. Good grief that idiot needs to go away! Any chance we can combine Levine with Danks in a trade? Reading Levine's crap just makes me miss Mariotti, and I can't stand Mariotti!
  23. Really disappointed Pitt didn't put up a fight, I know Madison is good but damn! I guess the good thing is that the Giants and the Nats should be a good series.
  24. I must say that this thread has been a fun read so far. The ghost of Greg Walker still lingers about...
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 06:29 PM) I don't quite understand that last sentence....compensates for? I think he's saying that signing two free agents with gualifying offers is worth the Sox losing their 2nd and 3rd round picks.
