  1. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 02:22 PM) Carlos Rodon will not be pitching out of the bullpen. 1 year ago, scouts were talking about him as 1 of the 10 best pitchers on the planet after his Soph season at NC State. He won't start the year with the White Sox but I'd be stunned if they waste any of his big league time pitching out of the bullpen. Agreed. I watched an interview with Hahn and by the way he talked, Rodon would either be starting for Charlotte or starting for the Sox. I go ahead and start Rodon at Charlotte for two reasons... 1- it allows Carlos some time to work on his control before making his MLB debut. 2- it buys time for Danks to hopefully pitch well enough to be traded in June 2015 and then promote Rodon to take his place.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 01:11 PM) The Sox and Yankees are actually great matches if they wanted to pursue a deal. Would love to snag Ian Clarkin from the Yanks.
  3. Just my opinion but I have a hard time seeing the Sox going after Maeda. He's 26 with almost 1300 innings under his belt already and weighs in at 6' 154 lbs according to baseball reference. Now factor in pitching every 5th game and I think there is some genuine concern about his durability. I could be wrong but I get the feeling that other teams will offer alot more than what the Sox are willing to. Edit to add: I'm not high on Mastson either. Outside of 2011 and 2013, his numbers are very much like Danks 2014. Thanks but no thanks.
  4. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 06:00 AM) same here, if you are like me, I like to identify the prospect in a certain area and I will like to follow them until draft day. re Ashe Russell, interesting make up, someone to keep an eye on. In the videos I watche , Ashe was consistently throwing 93/94 with tailing on his fastball. The slider and curve need work but that's to be expected from a 17 year old. Like you, I will be keeping an eye on him to see how he performs during the spring HS season.
  5. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 03:14 PM) a renewed mock draft sept 22, http://www.mymlbdraft.com/MLB-Mock-Draft Well, the Sox finish with the 8th pick for 2015 which, according to this mock, would have the Sox drafting Ashe Russell. Why not? In one video I watched of him he was wearing a Sox cap. I know its entirely way to early but now that the draft position is known, I just can't help myself.
  6. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 03:13 PM) Vlad Jr has some serious power: Yes he does and he's built just like his father! Big kid for 15!
  7. Let's hope it turns out better this time. Maybe grab a pitcher.
  8. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Sep 28, 2014 -> 03:45 PM) If the sox lose and Cubs score holds up, same record for all three teams. How do you win the tie breaker, isn't it based on last years' records? The Sox would have the 8th, Cubs 9th and Philly 10th. I believe tie breakers are decided by last years draft order. Chili would know for sure tho.
  9. I admit, I've done my fair share of b****ing over the years when Paulie had some struggles but he kept at it and never made excuses. First class person all the way! I will miss him tremendously! Thank you Paulie!!!
  10. I remember Paulie and Frnak having words years ago. Here's a tidbit of what I found. "When White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko actually showed that someone cared, chastising Thomas for sulking after being benched and questioning whether the team would be better off without him, Konerko was told to please shut up and keep his comments to himself. "If a guy is disgruntled and kind of affecting the way the clubhouse is, yeah, get rid of him," Konerko said on the eve of the All-Star Game. "The object is to have everybody pulling in the same direction. Why would you ever want to have one person who is not full-blown for the team all the time?" " http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/bbw/...7-17/majors.htm Frank has had moments of being a bit of a whiner and Paulie has always been the shut up and play kind of guy so I could see how they might not see eye to eye. I have no idea if their words in the past have anything to do with Thomas not being there Saturday but it is intriguing.
  11. So is it a safe assumption that Paulie will be starting in the last game of the season on Sunday?
  12. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 27, 2014 -> 08:34 AM) Todd Ritchie and why KW traded for him, giving up on kip wells. Ritchie was another one no doubt. At least the Sox only endured one year of Ritchie. In all fairness, Wells never amounted to much so he was really no big loss.'
  13. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 27, 2014 -> 07:50 AM) I don't know, I always thought he had a tired arm. he put a lot of innings in with pitching in the minors and then in the winter league. I could be wrong but I don't recall Erik pitching in the winter last off season. It doesn't sound like something the Sox would do with a guy that pitched 142 innings in the minors for 2013.
  14. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 27, 2014 -> 03:56 AM) Wait, do you mean impressed? Thanks for pointing that out. Not sure what happened but yes, Impressed.lol.
  15. Correct me if I'm wrong but the Sox moved into the 8th slot for the 2015 draft. I think in a tie with the cubs that the Sox win?
  16. Come on guys, try not to let your hatred show too much. Jeter was running full speed at the time the ball landed in his glove and clearly didn't have enough room to slow down. I swear its like people are trying to make it sound like Jeter intentionally went into the stands for highlight reel purposes. The reason people hate the play is because the media goes to it every time they bring up Jeters career. Good grief, talk about obvious blind hatred! All in all it was indeed a hell of a catch. Not the best ever seen but still a hell of a catch.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 11:50 PM) And also fond of blaming his teammates when he failed. His teammates hated him. QUOTE (CyAcosta41 @ Sep 27, 2014 -> 12:29 AM) Navarro was abysmal. And the Sox were afflicted with the double whammy -- he was horrible AND durable. As a Sox fan I hated his on field performance like none other (and heard all the rumors about what a terrible teammate he was as well). But a good friend bought into the Navarro hype for his Fantasy Team and Navarro just killed his team all year long -- THAT was hilarious. You guys aren't kidding. I remember wanting to pull my hair out because of that guy! Wasn't it Karim Garcia that almost hit one out of Tiger Stadium in left field on a change up Navarro? I'm pretty sure it was. Good grief I hated that signing and every time Navarro pitched it was pure misery! I could seriously go on and on about how much I despised him. I remember a sports writer took a jab in the sun times saying when the Sox went on the road the team needed a uhaul to carry Navarro's ERA. I'll never forget that one. Its memories like that, that make me want to horde pitchers like Sale and Q. As well as a few youngsters.
  18. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 11:16 PM) May I introduce you to Jaime Navarro? Any time busts come up its Navarro and rightfully so. People should have a look back at just how bad he was. Navarro to the Sox is like Edwin Jackson to the cubs. Very similar in how bad they were.
  19. I let my Sox bias show by voting for Noesi. I'm really impressed with what he and Cooper have accomplished in such a short amount of time. Especially for a guy that was thrown away like trash by two teams.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 05:14 PM) He lost velocity for sure. That was the red flag. No one has really said what happened, but he didn't seem right all year long. Ah, OK. I just looked at his stats from Charlotte and noticed his BB9 went from 3.0 in 2013 to 4.6 in 2014. That's a pretty significant increase in BB9.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 03:46 PM) Actually this isn't right. Last year when he was moderately effective in a short stint, his fastball averaged 92, you're right on that. This year though his average fastball was 89.5. I don't deny what you say but what the hell happened to him? I watched video of him from an April 15th start against Boston in which he struck 9 bosox hitters and his fastball was sitting 90-92 but straight as could be. So he lost velocity as well as control?
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 02:44 AM) I have never understood the Jeter hate. He basically is hated, not by what he does, but because of the perception the media likes him too much. Personally, I wish he had his first ballot HOF career with the White Sox. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 02:24 PM) I think Jim Kaat said last night he had 10 postseason series where he hit over .400. If Derek Jeter was a White Sox and received the same attention, the haters here would have a different spin on his career. Well said Dick, I could not agree more. Honestly, I always have liked Jeter and did not understand the hate. I realize the media hypes him up a bit, so hate the media and not the player. I just don't get it...
  23. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Sep 25, 2014 -> 10:03 PM) I heard Che Guevara was another one to watch too. Scouting report says over and over " not a team player". Doubt he's a guy that fits in with what the front office is trying to accomplish. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Sep 25, 2014 -> 10:06 PM) And Simon Bolivar Bolivar is just an old has been and would likely command too much money based on his yesteryear.
  24. As a starter Johnson's fastball sat 90-92 and straight as an arrow, that's just too easy for MLB batters to hit. Give him another shot at starting for Charlotte next year but if he picks up where he left off the I'd try him in the pen.
  25. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 06:32 AM) while I agree with you, I hope to make this minor change. on the sox, Jose is a #2 pitcher and depending on Rodon in the future maybe a #3. on another team, in most teams pen, he is a solid #2 and / or a weak #1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 08:26 AM) A very good case can be made that Quintana is a #1. I think you guys are right. Perhaps I'm underestimating Q a bit. I looked around the league real quick and on most teams Q would slot at #2 and even #1 on few others. Heck, Buehrle was the Sox #1 for some years and Q's K's and ERA are better than Buehrle's were at age 25. In order for Q to be traded, the return would have to out weight Q's value to the Sox and future Sox teams. I think some people need to remember that Hahn put Q on the no trade list last winter with Avi, Sale and Abreu for good reason. One more thing. The Sox do not need to explore a trade for Q, other teams explore trades for guys like Q.
