  1. Yeah, I'm with LDF. While TUC does write some lengthy posts that can read like a winding road, that's actually what I look forward to when reading his posts. TUC's mind is all over the place but at least he's thinking outside the box instead of spitting the latest bulls*** that some idiot sports writer just wrote. I remember last winter when that out side the box thinking spit out the idea of trying to acquire Noesi somehow because TUC liked what Noesi had to offer and how he would be a good project for Coop. In the end there's absolutely no denying TUC is a Sox fan and hopefully people don't lose sight of that. Stick around TUC or I'll have to start talking about how we need to trade Sale.
  2. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 20, 2014 -> 08:52 AM) oh man, my head is pounding and laughing is not helping. funny ....... a great post. Thank you sir. Have a few too many drinks last night?
  3. Oh s***! Look! Another thread where Ventura is thrashed for every little thing that goes wrong! Hurry, call the whaaambulance before the toddlers fudge their Huggies, again. I'm not saying Robin is a good or bad manager and I don't believe that can be determined until he is given a decent team to actually manage. What the f*** did Sox fans expect from the manager of a rebuilding baseball club? I admit, Robin makes some bad calls but good grief all managers do sometimes. The Sox have far more pressing issues than Robin.
  4. Rock is right. There's no way Sox scouts could have known Davidson was going to have a career worst year in 2014. They are scouts, not fortune tellers. If the scouts are at fault then so should the people that hired them. Draft picks turn into busts and so do traded prospects. That does not mean Davidson's career is over, just means he has work to do and at 23 there's no reason to give up on him. I really don't see what all the hind sight is about. I know Reed would have helped close games out but the Sox have had problems in the 7,8, and 9th innings so Reed could have only helped so much. Besides, Reed wouldn't have made this rebuilding team a contender anyway so I really don't see the point.
  5. Look at the bright side on Jackson, with such a short outing he will be ready to go again in a few days.
  6. I'd say go for it. He's an efficient base stealer and hit for average at AAA. Should Eaton become injured, a guy like Eury can fill in for CF and bat lead off. I see no reason why the Sox shouldn't. And he's only 24.
  7. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Sep 18, 2014 -> 02:47 AM) I'm f***ing serious man, I think it's a great idea. Look, I made a prototype. Well, everyone likes it so far so hopefully you can make it happen. Its a long winter after all. Great job!
  8. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 11:25 PM) We're going to go through this all again over the offseason. IIRC last offseason I proposed the creation of a "Trade Sale" forum which would be used to make money for the site. Funnel the MLB.com & MLBTR posters over into that forum (keep them off this part of the forum) and post a bunch of banner ads in there for like penis enlargement pills & mail order brides & insurance stuff & legal ads (need to make sure you have your will striaght and everything insured before you bring over that Russian bride) and then we could have the Sale trade thread links in that forum all small in this tiny font with the banner ads all big, so that way when the MLB.com & MLBTR posters tried to post in the threads they'd just click on the dick pills and stuff, and then money would be made for the site. Smart huh? See I thought this was a great idea & it's one of the reasons I should be a mod with Ban/kill power. But IIRC the mods just glossed over my posts like they always do I can always count on you for the interesting posts. I like the idea. Hell, maybe offer free pills to posters with reasonable trade proposals. Just for s***s and giggles. Do you think the Dodgers top 4 of Seager, Urias, Pederson and Holmes would come close?
  9. QUOTE (ptatc @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 11:06 PM) I've never seen anyone look at the size of the UCL before. It makes anatomic sense that a smaller one would have less tensile strength. They usually just look at the stanility of the joint and past injuries. It is definitely a comtroversy. OK, thanks for your input. Much appreciated.
  10. Keep in mind everyone that the amateur season does not start til mid February and things are bound to change. More players are bound to emerge so don't look too much into things right now. Its fun getting to know names but speculating on heir draft positions is pointless for the moment.
  11. Lol, I remember TUC had this debate last winter, tho I forget the thread. Trading Sale for the world sounds tantalizing and all but in the end I doubt seriously any GM would or could give up true value for Sale. The haul it would take to get Sale would be so huge that the other teams fan base would likely want their GM's head on a silver platter. Sale's age, skill and contract probably make him so valuable that's its difficult to put an accurate value on him. I wouldn't have a clue as to where to begin much less try to figure out which team could be a legit trade partner. Honestly, I'm not attached to any Sox player and am willing to trade any player including Sale for the right price but with Sale, what the f*** is the right price and who would pay it? I could easily get on board with the idea of trading Sale but without knowing those two things, forget it.
  12. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 09:20 PM) what do you think, sp or rp is the most dire need? lets just discuss pitching for now. ok Always a starter. Most relievers were starters at one point anyway.
  13. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 02:15 PM) Nice. No number. Just Q Straight to the point!
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 10:32 AM) I think almost every team in the league would be willing to take a chance on him, including the Astros themselves. If you believe the reports, it seemed they re-thought it and re-offered the initial $6.5 million guarantee to Aiken that the two had originally come to, but Close and Aiken were both very upset about how the Astros handled the situation and no longer wanted to deal with them. Just to clarify. Initially the question was asked if any of us board members would take a chance on drafting Aiken if he fell to the Sox in the 2015 draft, which is what the discussion has been about.
  15. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 10:05 AM) Everyone would. You are talking about a kid that would get upwards of $25-$30 million if he went on the open market right now. No, not everyone would and that's why its being discussed.
  16. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 16, 2014 -> 02:00 PM) If he's healthy, he's going to be a starting pitcher. No need to take him out of that role. I never said he should be taken out of that role. All I'm saying is that if the Sox decide Danish should be in the pen, I trust them.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 01:45 AM) QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 01:32 PM) * “No baseball player will have a normal MRI,” Dines said. “If someone has a congenitally small ulnar collateral ligament, even if they tear it and you reconstruct it, you can always make it bigger. And it’s almost a foregone conclusion these days that a young pitcher who throws in the upper 90s will at some point have a reconstruction anyway. “When I read the reports about Aiken, I thought that there might be some concern about the bony anatomy where the ligament attaches, perhaps the medial epicondyle. If that is damaged or abnormal, you’re left with less bone there to reconstruct the ligament, and that can mean that a reconstruction won’t always work. They must have thought, for some reason, that a future reconstruction would not take.” PTAC? from si.com story on Aiken ptac's response The statement is accurate for the reconstruction. You need to drill a substantial size hole in the medial condyle (not really the epicondyle but that's semantics, it's the same area). the tendon that is used to replace the ligament is much larger than the original so there needs to be room with which to work. However, I have never been involved in a case where the condyle was too small. It's conceivable, I guess, but I've never seen nor heard of it. Maybe in a case where he had "little leaguer's elbow"as a kid where there is damage to the growth plate on the medial side of the elbow.. The quote from the SI article shows they are speculating and clearly have not seen the medicals so I don't see the point. Everything I've stumbled across only talks about the ligament being undersized and nothing but speculation about the bone itself. Now, if it comes out that the bone is undersized as well then I would be more than willing to pass on Aiken based on Ptatc's response which makes sense with how he explained it. Until more is known, at this point I would still take a chance on Aiken if the price is right.
  18. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 01:59 AM) I screwed up, I really meant the elbow. sorry. It's OK, so did I. The board members name is ptatc, I forgot a t.
  19. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 16, 2014 -> 04:37 PM) really, I would have sworn that there has to be another situation like this. I learn something new. thanks let me ask this question, wouldn't it seem as if there was surgery, wouldn't the doctors do something like to improve the shoulder by making it thicker or something? The UCL is in the elbow and that's where the concern is over Aiken. The shoulder is a completely different ball game and if memory serves, that's labrum territory from what I recall from Mike Sirotka. I think the Jays are still stinking over that trade. The board member that goes by the name of PTAC would be the person to ask as he seems to know ALOT about things of this nature. Dude knows his s***! I'm hoping he will weigh in at some point about Aiken's UCL and enlighten us all.
  20. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 16, 2014 -> 05:33 PM) does anyone have a list for player for the 2014-2015 MLFA or idea for the sox? Here ya go. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/02/2015...ree-agents.html
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 16, 2014 -> 03:16 PM) the astros argued a repair wouldnt be effective precisely because of the smaller size...and certainly inserting a bigger presumably stronger replacement wouldhave detrimental consequences to his mechanics and likely lead to further injury Neither Aiken or the Astros can prove the smaller UCL will or will not hold up, only time will tell the tale on that. As far as a larger UCL being detrimental to mechanics, that's the Astros guessing in an effort to support their half of the issue. In all the stuff I've read about this never once has another situation like this been brought up which makes this particular situation unique. Its a first so there's no way for the Astros to know if a larger UCL will affect Aiken's mechanics. The Astros are making a huge assumption in an effort to save millions.
  22. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 16, 2014 -> 06:45 AM) ummm you know he does have a point. if he gets hurt, the sox still has him to control, with surgery, the meds can repair and thicken the UCL ligament, (I read that it can be done) if he doesn't get hurt, the sox will have a great pitcher. interesting gamble. Thank you and you bring a very good point about Aiken's age. He's good enough and young enough to have the TJ surgery ( if needed) and still make an MLB debut at a relatively young age depending on his progress and how old he was at the time of surgery. A kid that throws a mid 90's fastball, a plus curve ball and plus control could be more than worth the risk.
  23. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 02:11 PM) Kid turns 20 today. Getting the twitter love from his fellow prospects. Obviously, valid concerns remain about his mechanics, but the slight-frame/durability issues need to be put to rest. He's 205 pounds on a six-foot frame and completed 130 pro-ball innings at 19. Here's a recent photo of him, looking stacked, with Courtney Hawkins, and a recent Dash photo - His frame looks like a slightly-downsized version of Rodon to my eyes. The issue should be a thing of the past, but you can expect to be reading it up until he's a stud in MLB. Meanwhile, the Cubs 23 y.o. CJ Edwards, who Tyler outweighs by 50 lbs., still ranks in the 50's in top 100 lists, with a profile that screams reliever to anyone who's paying attention. Been babied the whole time with pitch counts of 80 (less than TD despite 3+ years older) and still missed most of the season with throwing shoulder issues. This is analogous to the continuation bet in Texas Hold 'em, and is rooted in a similar likelihood of BS. #rankingsajoke That's a very cool pic and great to see Danish and Hawkins taking time for pics with fans. One thing I notice is Danish has put on some very solid weight! Dude is pretty buff for a pitcher. He kinda makes Hawkins look small. The only thing that scares me about Danish is the potential for injury on the elbow with the way he whips his arm. I admit I'm no medical professional but my elbow hurts just watching him. A lot of the talk about Danish was also said about Sale and so far so good with him. Even if Danish does end up in the bullpen I won't complain because a kid with his stuff could be quite dominant.
