QUOTE (oldsox @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 01:53 PM) How does Phillie GM Amaro keep his gig? QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 02:00 PM) I don't think he does. I think he's gone after the season. Some interesting points made in this article I stumbled across. Gives a bit of some insight and understanding as to how Amaro still has his job. http://www.sbnation.com/mlb/2014/9/2/60997...ral-manager-job

Updated MLB Free Agent Power Rankings List (9/2)

I went with KungFu Panda. Not that I'm unhappy with Connor but I like the Panda's defense much better. -
QUOTE (shysocks @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 12:27 PM) I'd rather have a retired Dunn than Ryan Howard. Seriously! Even a retired Dunn that was turned around to bat right handed is a better alternative.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 12:26 PM) Unquestionably. So would the Phillies I just looked at Howard's contract on baseball reference and he's owed 25M each for 2015/16 and 23M for 2017 or a whopping 10M buyout! He will be 35 in November. This is just a horrible idea no matter how one tries to look at it. Philly is stuck with this contract no matter what.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 12:15 PM) The Phillies pay 99% of his remaining salary and trade him for ~Nelvin Fuentes. I stand by my previous post. Honestly, I would rather have Dunn.

I enjoyed the recaps and think they were very well done. My only complaint would be if the recaps were no longer done during the MiLB season. Keep up the great work and am looking forward to next season.

Please tell me the Ryan Howard comment is a joke. I cannot think of ANY scenerio that would make Ryan Howard playing for the Sox a good idea, none.

QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 10:34 AM) i know its prob ref to me somewhat, but i can't help it. sincerely i am sorry to all. Honestly LDF, I did not have you in mind when I wrote that. There are one or two people on here that forget they are on a message board and not texting a friend which is what I found amusing. Not that my grammar is the best but I do make an effort.

I don't understand why people are surprised Mitchell wasn't called up. What did he do to deserve a call up? His numbers sure don't justify a call up. Can anyone explain this please?

I must say, the English in this thread has been abused to the likes a red headed step child has not yet seen. Truly an educational experience.

QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 07:28 PM) well danks being trade would be a fantasy dream. who can we trade him too? I'm not saying to trade Danks as I realize there's no market for him ( at this point) but theres no way I would trade Q because hes " over rated" so the Sox can sign less durable starters like Anderson and McCarthy which was the idea I was responding to in the first place. Just clarifying is all.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 06:42 PM) People seem to think that Quintana will immediately flop tomorrow. I feel like this has to do with how we acquired him. Good grief, what more does the guy have to do? It sounds almost like a few want him to flop just so they can say I told ya so. Q is putting up numbers very similar to Buehrle yet Q is only a #3/4 while Buehrle was a #1, all be it an unconventional #1. Could it be a psychological thing? I mean, could Sale and his numbers be making Q look rather pedestrian despite actually being pretty good numbers?
-
Am I reading the last few pages correctly? Trade Q because he's overrated and merely a #3/4, keep Danks and his almost 5 ERA who's at best a #5, sign Anderson and McCarthy which both have injury histories only to kick Noesi to the curb despite making quite an improvement in a short amount of time? I'll ask again, am I reading this right?

I like that Rodon is apparently finished for the year. Its been a long year for him so let him go home, rest and get ready for ST. I can see Rodon leaving Arizona with the Sox next year.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 10:04 AM) Where is this idea that Micah will be the starting 2b in April of next year coming from? They just shut him down for health reasons rather than calling him up in September. I can't see him starting in the bigs next April barring several injuries to other people. Last week Scott Merkin proclaimed Johnson the starting 2B for 2015 and it seems people jumped on the wagon. I would rather let the off season and ST determine that before a sports writer.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 07:32 PM) Can't imagine it will be anywhere but B'Ham. I'm thinking you're right. Doesn't seem like there would be a whole lot for Danish left to prove at Winston next year. That is going to be awesome following Montas and Danish next year. I'm already looking forward to it. Fwiw, I'm drinking some silver bullets.

Beck with 5ip, 0 BB, 0 ER and 6K's. Nice outing.
-
Pretty impressive first full season for a 19 year old. Curious if he will start of 2015 with Winston or if he will be moved up to Birmingham. Montas and Danish in the same rotation for Birmingham sounds pretty damn good to me.

Do the Sox have any plans to honor Adam Dunn next week?
BlackSox13 replied to sin city sox fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Dunn hit .201 with 106 HR and 278 RBI over 4 seasons (- 1 month) with the Sox. I see nothing to celebrate here. -

The Adam Dunn Appreciation Thread

I wish Dunn and his family nothing but the best. He didn't live up to expectations but he never made excuses and he handled things well IMO. If Dunn does retire then that ends any future discussions about the Sox trying to sign him for 2015. Edit: I agree that Navarro is still the biggest disappointment in Sox history. I forget which sports writer it was but the guy said when the Sox went on road trips Navarro needed a U-haul to carry his ERA . -
No surprise here. I'm guessing Rodon is on the way. If so I like the idea as he will be able to work directly with Coop. We will know soon enough.
