If the So are going to take on a high dollar contract of a right handed hitting OF, that name should be Kemp, not Upton. BJ runs like Justin and hits like Kate. No thank you. I would honestly rather keep Danks and his contract over BJ's. The Sox don't have the best pedigree for turning bats around so I would not count on that either. Edit: take note that even the cubs weren't crazy enough to make a deal that included Upton's contract.

QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 10:02 AM) Adam Dunn first game Leury Garcia second game QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 10:05 AM) They're allowed to do a one-game callup that doesn't hit the 40 man. But Hahn said no to Rodon. My suggestion, since the Sox are not competing anyway: Matt Zaleski. He's the only pitcher - ever, as far as I can tell - to play 11 seasons in just one organization and never make the majors. And he's actually been decent in AAA. Give him a start, save the MLB arms. I like the idea of starting Zaleski. Rienzo just pitched last night so I doubt he would be the guy. So, start Zaleski in game one with Dunn and Leury as relievers.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 09:06 AM) If we're after Heyward, it's crazy to trade for him. Free agent after next season, seems extremely unlikely to sign a long term extension before that since no one seems to know what to make of him. After thinking about I think you're right about this Balta. Weren't the Braves trying to sign him longer last winter and he only agreed to a deal that covered his arbitration years? The only way this could work would be if the Sox had a negotiation window with him to work out a long term deal like what they did with sweaty Freddy. I admit this is highly doubtful.

QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Aug 26, 2014 -> 05:42 PM) I just saw the Gattis/BJ Upton info and also saw they may include Mike Minor if someone eats BJ Upton's contract. Is this crazy or not? White Sox trade: Dayan Viciendo, A Couple Solid Prospects Braves Trade: Evan Gattis, BJ Upton (All his $48 million comes with him), Mike Minor Upton is a terrible player, but if taking on his $12 million per year helps us net Minor & Gattis... Am I crazy? What type of prospects would it take to get Gattis & Minor? Here's the hang up I think. I just look at Upton's contact on baseball reference and his contract is back loaded. 2015 $ 14,450,000. 2016 $ 15,450,000 2017 $ 16,450,000 Those numbers combined with his performance is a pretty much impossible sell. Personally I could not be intrigued no matter what player they threw into the deal , even if they took Danks contract. Now that I know this, I can see why there hasn't been much said about a possible Sox/Braves trade. Hahn has probably already said f*** no .

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Aug 26, 2014 -> 08:55 PM) Danish is probably getting tired at this point. I am surprised he isn't doing worse to be honest. I was thinking the same thing. Its his first full season of pro ball. He's still building strength and endurance in that arm. I'm really pleased with his progress this season.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 26, 2014 -> 05:34 PM) He's a free agent after next year and if OF remains a need then he'd be a reasonable but likely extremely expensive target because you'd still be paying for potential to some degree. Espeically if he has a career year next year. No doubt about it. If the Sox traded for him they would have to be sure they could work an extension out with him. Its just a thought really. Since the Sox season is kind of blah, my mind is starting to think more about the off season trade potentials.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 26, 2014 -> 05:20 PM) Plus you have the Greg Walker Effect in Atlanta. God, what happened to that offense? We all know about BJ Upton's struggles, but Heyward hasn't exactly taken that next step to superstar status. On paper, he looks okay because he walks quite a bit, but his overall traditional numbers are way way down. Speaking of Heyward, that's a guy who could fit the mold of this team young team Hahn is assembling. Lefty bat, can play RF and would force Avi to LF where he's possibly destined to play anyway. Could work an extension out that would cover Heyward's prime years. As for Gattis, no thanks.

If the Braves were really interested in Jackson, anyone think they could be interested in Danks or at least were at one time? Jackson's ERA is a full run higher than Danks while pitching in the NL. Jackson and Danks contracts end after the 2016 season. Hard to imagine the Braves not being interested.

I wonder just how desperate Detroit is for starting pitching...

Cool, its Danish day!

I blame Dubya Bush.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 26, 2014 -> 11:00 AM) That league has an age limit. Believe its 27 There goes that idea.

I don't wish anything bad for Gordy since he has fulfilled the only wish I had which was to go away. At least now he will continue to suck under the sunny California sun, til the Halos release him. Are the Schaumburg Boomers looking for an infielder?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 25, 2014 -> 07:17 PM) I am guessing they capped his innings. I hope so. I know he's young but I really like what he has to offer for his age.

I just looked Adams up. He hasn't pitched since the 15th. He's still listed as active too so I have no clue what's up.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 25, 2014 -> 09:30 AM) You knocked off the last quote tag, fixed it for you. Thank you sir. The curser jumps around on me sometimes. I need a new device.lol Anyway. I'm just glad that we have Rodon. Last season sucked and this season isn't much better so at least there's something to show for it.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 25, 2014 -> 09:05 AM) I am completely ok with replacing John Danks's spot in the rotation if the White Sox have $14 million in addition to spend. That would be a major way to upgrade the roster. I also am completely ok with Noesi being put at the back of the rotation. He's been an above average 5th starter already and there's clear potential for improvement as he continues to learn how to deal with big league hitters. I have a real problem with trying to upgrade Noesi's spot. Noesi might give 1 (or even 1+) WAR next year for the league minimum. In other words, he could well be expected to be worth $5 million+. To upgrade that spot on the free agent market, we'd have to spend $15 million ish if we were trying to find a 3 WAR pitcher. In other words, we'd be spending an extra $15 million to get only 2 WAR worth of production. That math might work for a team that misses the playoffs by 1 game this year and needs to find somewhere to upgrade, but that's a poor allocation of resources for a team in the boat the White Sox are in. If Rodon is going to take a rotation spot this Sept. and next spring, then it should be the one currently inhabited by Caroll et al. We have an open rotation slot as it is, Danks's status does not impact that I think you and I are coming for the same conclusion, just looking at going about it in different ways or from different perspectives. I agree about Noesi. I'm actually OK with him in the rotation and he has improved and at times been very effective. There's a part of me thanks kind of excited to see if he can continue to improve next year. I love the movement on his FB and his CU can be pretty damn effective at times. Also agree with upgrading Carroll's rotation spot. Carroll still has a place on this team and its in the pen which is an area in dyer need of help so replacing his spot and sticking him in the pen is a double upgrade in one shot really. I also agree that no matter what, Danks should be traded. Let's say a right handed starter will cost 25M. Now its only an additional 11M added to the payroll IF the Sox were to trade Danks without sending money in the deal all the while majory upgrading the rotation. Edit: Appologies for this being f***ered up. I'm on a giggle tablet and sometimes things get messed up on this stupid thing. Not sure what happened.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 25, 2014 -> 08:39 AM) If the Sox have an opportunity to move Danks's salary I believe they should do so regardless of whether or not Rodon is ready. I think the logic here is pretty straightforwards. John Danks currently is a #4-#5 starter who is being paid like a #3 starter. If the White Sox could move his salary out of the way, that would free up the money that could be used to replace him with a #3 starter who is performing like a #3 starter or, perhaps with a little more of a financial sweetener, replace him with a #2 starter. This would be an effective upgrade to the roster regardless of whether or not Rodon is ready. Thus, if Danks's contract could be moved off the roster, I'm now convinced it should be done regardless of any other circumstances. OK. Let's say Rodon isn't ready. Trading Danks means that not only does his spot in the rotation need to be replaced but Carroll's as well. And that's if were OK with Noesi. So we would be looking to sign/trade for at least two maybe even three rotation starters. Now let's say Rodon is ready. He immediately replaces Danks and now were looking at replacing only one or possibly two starters. Rodon would negate money being spent for an addition starter therefore that money could be used to get a left handed bat into the lineup. It just gives Hahn more flexibility if Hahn can immediately replace Danks 14M salary with Rodon's league minimum of roughly 600k. That savings right there is worth two good bullpen arms so not only is the rotation upgraded but the pen as well.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 25, 2014 -> 08:19 AM) Rodon shouldn't impact how the Sox deal with Danks. Oh but I think he very much does. The Sox have made known in the past they would prefer to not have 4 lefties in the rotation and Danks would clearly be the odd man out if Rodon is indeed ready. Then the Sox clear even more payroll space by trading Danks to possibly sign a right handed FA pitcher or trade for one that may have a higher salary, or both for that matter. Basically it would make an already flexible payroll even more flexible and allow Hahn to be even more creative with trades this winter.

Keep those updates coming chili! I'm watching the top 11 draft pick race myself. If the Sox are going to suck while rebuilding then I have no problem with them getting another high pick next June. And for the record and this really isn't directed towards anyone, just saying. I am a Sox fan but that's just it, a fan. By no means does the Sox sucking embarrass me. If the team sucks its due to the players and FO, not the fans so if there's any embarrassment to be felt its the players and FO, not the fans. -
QUOTE (hi8is @ Aug 25, 2014 -> 02:29 AM) Another perspective not yet voiced is this: The Sox and Hanh believe they are in position to contend for 2015 and believe Rodon can be a huge piece in moving towards contention. With a cup of coffee this year, he can wet his beak and be all the more preped for better contributions next season. When you think about it - this process is actually a distinct possibility. Sign a number 2 type RHSP, tighten up the outfield, grab a new DH, and put together a nice pen... You've got yourself a playoff team ladies and gentlemen. One that could even go all the way should the baseball Gods decide it to be so. The thought of Sale, Shields, Qunitana, Rodon, and Noesi/Johnson/Danks makes me very very happy. An outfield of Garcia / Eaton / X would be groovy, health permitting. Abreu ( believe it or not ) STILL can improve. I believe we can count on a boost from second base WAR with Beckham out next year. Alexi seems to be returning to his 08/10 levels. Gillaspie is highly underrated and could become an affordable fixture. Flowers may indeed have a spot on a playoff team and I'm not counting out an upgrade at catcher during the winter. With Dunn gone finally we sure can expect to see an improvement there as well. Hell, even Paulie going off to his 16,000 square foot oasis in the desert improves our bench. Give me a bullpen and 2015 looks rosie enough for us take a MAJOR stride forward.... So, BRING IT! f*** yeah to all of this. IMO, the Sox are not rushing Rodon at all, I think he really is that damn good and ready. Another benefit of bringing him up in September is to see how he responds. If Rodon responds well you can bet Hahn will be shopping Danks pretty hard this winter while assembling a much better team to put on the field in 2015. f*** the wussie don't start the clock s***. If he's ready, then pitch him!

I was hoping Charlotte's site had some video up of Rodon's performance today but nothing yet. Really would like to see how his stuff looked today.

QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Aug 24, 2014 -> 06:45 PM) We don't have to tank really lol not with this lineup, pen and 4&5 starters. This is true. Just let nature run its course and the Sox could very well have another top five pick next June.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Aug 24, 2014 -> 05:52 PM) I'm so glad we sucked so much **** last year... And hope we tank again more and more this year. High positions in the draft are so underrated. Mix in some good trades, free agent signings, and a couple years of high drafting... We're back to it like never before and quick. Good job Hanh and company. We're heading in the right direction. Let's not forget to thank the Astros and Marlins too. I'm with ya tho. I can't cheer for the Sox to lose but I can still smile after a loss. Just watched video of Michael Matuella on BA and read their scouting report. That's a big dude with a nice developing repertoire. Sox would have to tank pretty hard in order to get a high enough pick to have a shot but I'm on board.

QUOTE (daggins @ Aug 24, 2014 -> 10:48 AM) Based on what Hahn has said (about "another Eaton like trade") and what the chatter has been RE: Sox rumors, I would guess Dom Brown and Pedro Alvarez will be two names heard often. As lefty power hitters having lousy years in organizations strongly focused on winning, they could be buy-low candidates as Eaton was. No idea what they would cost though. Hahn could also target someone like this: http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?sid=t...itting/2014/ALL As an outfielder in a system deep in star-caliber OF talent, and having a breakout season in AA, he might be attractive to a team like the Sox. I love the Schebler idea. Not sure how much the Dodgers would like it tho. Maybe Hahn could sweet talk LA into including Schebler with Kemp's high salary but I have no clue what the Sox would offer up or how much of Kemp's salary the Sox would be taking. Keep Eaton in CF and rotate Kemp, Schebler and Avi between RF, LFand DH. I'm just throwing s*** out there.
