QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 24, 2014 -> 05:32 AM) thanks goes to everyone who posted updates on Anderson. any new update on his defense? Not good. 31 errors in 67 games this year. His bat is definitely ahead of his glove. He's plenty young enough to improve though.

QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 24, 2014 -> 07:06 AM) well Lester and Masterson will not cost anything come free agent time. positional players may be a different depending if the sox will go that route. here is a question, if Max Scherzer does not get a QO from Det, would you sign him for something like 25-30 mil? The Sox will have plenty of space in the payroll to play with so, yes I would. My problem is I would not go beyond 4 years for any player that's around 30 years old and I think there are plenty of teams that will take that chance. I would take Sherzer or Lester for around 4/100M. I doubt they would though. I'm more curious as to where the Sox are going to get power from the left side next year. I'm kind of thinking that's going to happen via trade somehow but not sure who to even speculate on. -
Good grief. Couldn't wait to get Beckham out of town and now were supposed to care how he performs elsewhere? To each their own I suppose but I could care less how he performs. As other have already said, he had many years to pull it all together and he didn't. I've moved on and am looking forward to the youth coming up in the Sox system.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 23, 2014 -> 08:30 PM) Basically, the way I feel right now is that I want to see the core guys do well. If that causes them to win the game, then great. However, if there's a game where Avi/Abreu/Eaton do nothing, and the Sox score because someone like Dunn did most of the damage, then it's not too exciting to me. I pretty much feel the same way and its rather bitter sweet. I'm really only interested in the core guys and the youngsters in the minors that could be part of the team for years to come. If the Sox are going to suck then suck bad snuff to get a top 11 protected draft pick and allow Hahn the benefit of possibly signing a big FA without losing their first rounder. -

I won't cheer for the Sox to lose but I won't cry about it if they do. I guess I should start looking into potential top ten draft picks for next year. I like what I read about Cameron although at this point the Sox would have to fall further the rest of this season or he would have to fall next spring. I'm going to start reading more about the players mentioned by others in this thread. -
As for now Anderson's bat is ahead of his glove. Hard to project Anderson as Alexei's replacement when Anderson has 31 errors thru 66 games this year. Not that he cannot improve ( I'm sure he will) but right now he's looking more like the 2000 Jose Valentin.

Happy as hell to see Tim getting off to a great start at Birmingham. Just love it! Looking forward to Anderson starting off at Birmingham next hear and Ravelo at Charlotte.

QUOTE (The Wiz @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 07:06 PM) Thanks for your input Kenny Williams/Rick Hahn I'd say if anything if Semien shows he can play a solid SS over the next couple weeks and in September, the odds of Alexei getting traded do nothing but increase. And this offseason is probably the time to sell high on Ramirez as you will likely never get as much for him as you can this offseason. Agreed and then take into account Alexei's age and it becomes even more possible. I think the only way Alexei stays with the Sox is if Hahn improves the team through FA and trades this winter to make the team a legit contender in 2015, at least on paper anyway.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 03:05 PM) How was Albert Belle disappointing? His average stat line in his 6 full seasons with Cleveland: .300/.377/.594, 39HRs, 36 2B, 118 RBI His average stat line in his 2 full seasons with White Sox: .301/.368/.571, 40 HRs, 46 2B, 134 RBI I didn't get that either unless Andy meant Joey was disappointing as a human being? Joey was an asshole, but he could hit.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 02:48 PM) Adams was promoted to Great Falls earlier this week Have a link? I looked at Great Falls site and he's not listed on the roster and there's no mention of him being called up in the GF news either. I also googled it and again , nothing.

Rodon is going to start next year. The only question for now is will it be for the Sox or the Knights? ST 2015 will answer that question.

Friday night is Spenser Adams night! Really like following this kid.

Straight of the Barons hot press... http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=2...47&sid=t247 "The Barons and Chicago White Sox have announced that 2013 First-Round Pick Tim Anderson has been promoted to Birmingham from Class A Winston-Salem. Anderson will be making his Double-A debut as the Barons take on the Mississippi Braves at Trustmark Park. Anderson, 21, was selected by the White Sox with the 17th overall selection in last year's First-Year Player Draft out of East Central Community College where he led the nation with a .495 average and ranked second with 41 stolen bases as a sophomore in 2013. A native of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Anderson signed a letter of intent at the University of Alabama-Birmingham prior to being signed by Chicago. In 68 games with the Dash this season, Anderson hit .297 (85-for-286) with six home runs, 18 doubles, seven triples, 48 runs scored, 31 RBI and 10 stolen bases. He was also named to the 2014 Carolina League midseason All-Star Team. He was placed on the disabled list on June 27 after suffering a fractured right wrist and was activated today after making six rehab starts with the Arizona League White Sox where he hit .235 (4-for-17) with two home runs. At the time of his injury, Anderson ranked eighth in the Carolina League in batting. Anderson entered the 2014 season ranked by Baseball America as the No. 3 Prospect in the White Sox organization while MLB.com rated him as the organization's No. 2 Prospect in their updated July 28th rankings. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 09:30 PM) Semien has been fine at Charlotte overall, and has been crushing it the past month. He's ready. So what do we do? We call up the utility guy... I agree about Semien and I love how he has improved his BB/K rate. As for Sanchez, time will tell but I do think he will be a better hitter than Garcia who is the current utility. Given Sanchez age, I'm willing to wait and see. IMO, Sanchez switch hitting ability could be another reason he got the call over Semien which isn't too big of a deal since Semien likely joins the Sox in another 10 days anyway.
-
In other news. Danish with 5.2 IP, 2 earned runs , 0 walks and 4 k's. Not a bad night.

Dick has been hitting the nail on the head all season long with his Matt Davidson/ Josh Fields references. Very similar except Fields actually showed some promise at AAA and Davidson has not. A .200 average with 147 k's in 438 at bats shows the Sox made the right call sending Davidson to Charlotte coming out of ST. Like others I'm not giving up on Davidson but its beyond clear he's not ready. I for one am glad we have Connor and especially after Davidson has s*** his britches at Charlotte this year. Good call Dick.

QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 07:52 PM) Next dominoes Danks and Dunn...wishful thinking I think Dunn and Beckham were in the same boat so I still hold out hope for Dunn.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 07:17 PM) I think they already said Johnson will stay at 2B. I imagine he will be starting by August 1st, 2015 if he doesn't completely tank or get injured next year which is possible I think a lot depends on how Sanchez and Semien handle their call ups. If one or the other plays their way into the position then Johnson is the odd man out and considering his speed the outfield is a possibity. I've been reading stuff on line that hints Johnson could be moved to the outfield because he's just not good at 2nd defensively.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 07:11 PM) Here are the Charlotte stats for your reference: Semien: .809 OPS, 123 wRC+ Sanchez: .761 OPS, 110 wRC+ Johnson: .684 OPS, 87 wRC+ Obviously these guys do other things than simply hit, but Semien has been by far the best with the bat. If he's struggling, then I'm not sure how to describe the other two guys' performance. And in all seriousness, he was never really struggling either, he was just getting really unlucky. His BABIP is finally getting back to normal, but he's still a good 25 to 35 points off his career mark. For comparison purposes, it's currently 68 points worse than Sanchez's. I still don't know why a decent amount of posters sleep on Semien. He's shown significantly more power and a much better ability to draw walks than Sanchez ever has. I get the age difference, but that only goes so far when we're talking about a polished hitter who doesn't project to add much power. I think some people may be overvaluing Sanchez's hit tool and defense at 2B. Obviously great tools to have, but I don't think they outweigh what Marcus brings to the table. Thanks for posting the numbers. I'm stuck between Sanchez and Semien. Semien has a bit more power and draws walks but Sanchez seems to hit for better average , at least this year anyway and seems to be a bit better at base stealing.

QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 06:42 PM) What? Micah is an exciting young player who hit .294 in AAA while playing through hamstring issues. Let him heal this offseason and get ready to battle for 2B Actually I agree but to decree Johnson as the starting 2B for 2015 is the equivalent of pre-mature ejaculation. As long Alexei is at SS, Johnson has very stiff competetition from Sanchez and Semien for starting at 2B in 2015. I would not rule out the idea of Johnson being shifted to the outfield either.
-
Not surprised one bit its Sanchez getting the call. Johnson is shutdown, Semien has struggled at Charlotte ( has hit better July/Aug) and Saladino is done for the year so who else would it be? Sanchez brings a switch hitting bat to a lineup that can use a lefty bat that's not named Garcia. Maybe the Sox feel Sanchez future is at 2B with Semien at SS. As for Merkin's comments on Johnson, I have no clue what that man is thinking! Anyway. I wish nothing but the best for Beckham but thank gawd he's no longer with the White Sox.

Just before the season started, the Angels were saying they were pretty much at their payroll cap so Danks to LAA is not really an option. To those clamoring to trade Danks. Ask your self, if Danks was on another team would you want the Sox to trade for him and take on that contract? I know I wouldn't. I would love to see him gone but I accept he doesn't have the value many had hoped for and that contract is what really hurts. I'm hoping that maybe some team will take a chance on trading for him this off season but I stress, hope, not counting on. Danks is with Sox and people need to accept it because complaining won't make any difference.
-
This is just awesome! I'd like to take the time to point out that I was wrong for hoping the Sox would have been able to draft Aiken or Kolek ahead of Rodon. Again, I was wrong! Happily wrong that is! Thank you Astros and Marlins. I love you both.

Would you still be a Sox fan if they moved?
BlackSox13 replied to witesoxfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I've been a Sox fan for over 40 years now but if ownership decided to remove the team from Chicago, my interest in the team would be removed as well. For me, following the cubs is not an option and seeing as how I'm looking to move to Colorado in the next few years anyway I would refocus my attention on the Rockies and never look back.
