  1. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 07:16 PM) not with the present management and how they are managing the money. working the system for the profits, pretty much like the marlins. Perennial cellar dwellers. Its amazing they still have fans.
  2. Would not be surprised if Houston is doing this in an effort to try and get back a little talent they lost from this years draft debacle.
  3. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 06:09 PM) What's the fascination with JR Murphy? I think its due to him being a pretty good catching prospect and is only 23 years old.
  4. I don't doubt the Dodgers are interested in Lester but I think part of this rumor is the Dodgers using interest in Lester to possibly get Tampa to lower their expected return for Price.
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 01:23 PM) Why? Boston has Lester to offer and Boston has more flexibility in their payroll which is significantly higher than the White Sox. Also, I think Boston having such a dismal season the following year after winning the world series makes them more desperate.
  6. Good grief, talk about a pile on. Rock does post tid bits in the forums, isn't that good enough?
  7. Kemp will be 30 in September with over 100M left on his contract. He is exactly the type of player the Sox DONT need. I doubt the dodgers would be willing to kick in enough money to get the Sox interested anyway. Boston trading for Kemp makes more sense.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 11:31 AM) Would a trade of Danks for prospects be a sign the team does not plan on winning again next year? I'd say yes that's what it means. You'd be totally weakening an already pathetic staff. Not at all dude. The Sox have a lot of room on the payroll budget and that doesn't include Dunn's salary coming off the books sometime between now and seasons end. It would be unfair to speculate on 2015 without seeing what the off season brings first.
  9. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 10:01 AM) The personnel shortcomings certainly aren't his fault. As for managing the team, it's not his fault in that he didn't hire himself. But wasn't qualified for the position when hired, and he manages strategically like his resume suggests he would. Agreed. Strategy and his limited managing experience is all Robin has to go by. When I get frustrated with Robin I try to remember that he's learning on the fly and it will take some patience. I do feel he will improve as his experience builds.
  10. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 09:37 AM) Very few people could do what Ventura is being asked to do: Effectively manage a ML baseball team after being out of baseball for many years, and without a minute of prior coaching experience. Very good point. Also not Robin's fault Hahn gave Robin and Coop so many reclamation projects either.
  11. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 09:18 AM) What if you upgrade with him as a #5? It's easy to be a contender these days with a horrible #5 or even really bad #4. Peavy moved for useful players; so can Danks. Peavy didn't come with 2+ years of contract remaining and 30M+ owed which SF said was why they traded for Peavy. SF wasn't looking for a long commitment which made Peavy more valuable in the eyes of SF.
  12. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 09:10 AM) At this point in his career, Danks is a #4 starter. If he is an upgrade to your pitching staff, then you probably have no business being buyers at the deadline. That said, if somebody is delusional enough to think that Danks will help them, the Sox should try to extract a nice price, because he can still be useful to the Sox as a #4 starter going forward. I see Danks more of a #5 and to be honest, I see Noesi having more value than Danks because Noesi doesn't come with a contract through 2016. I agree its likely Danks has more value in the eyes of the White Sox and that's why, IMO, the Sox should not expect much of a return. No team is going to pay extra for a guy simply because the Sox value him more. If we were talking about Sale or Q then the Sox are in a position to say " over pay because of how highly we value him" but were talking about Danks which is completely different. The irony that I see in all this is fans want to trade Danks for different reasons but the common one seems to be his peripherals, and yet still think Danks can bring back a high return. Makes no sense to me. I really hope I'm wrong in all this but my gut tells me the return for Danks would be minimal at best. Again, good grief I hope I'm dead wrong.
  13. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jul 27, 2014 -> 07:16 PM) Or how about John Ferrell. Red Sox won the World Series last year and now he, the manager, has the team in last place with a worse record than the White Sox. You have to give Robin props for deciding to make his team win more games than last year instead of less games as Ferrell is doing. Yeah, Ferrell is pretty bad. I cannot understand how a team goes from world series champ to one of the worst teams the following year. I'm not really a fan of Robin's decision making by any means but in his defense its not his fault he was given two DH's, its not his fault he was given a s***ty bullpen and its not his fault there's two holes in the rotation. I admit Noesi and Carroll have been looking better but far from being staples in the rotation at this point. Robin can only manage what Hahn gives him and obviously some experiments have not worked out. I'm willing to wait and see how Robin does when he's given a team with less holes. We all knew this rebuild would be tough to watch sometimes.
  14. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 27, 2014 -> 11:51 PM) Phils's right - there is zero pitching depth. Still, if we get a couple of young pitchers for him and we hit FA, then we'd still be better off. This along with Danks contract looking more and more like an albatross makes me think the Sox end up with Danks for the rest of the season. Hopefully Danks can pitch well enough to be traded this winter. I'm starting to see more of where Andy the clown is coming from. Shaky peripherals combined with that contract is going to be a difficult trade. Put it this way, if Danks was pitching for another team and the Sox were rumored to be interested I would cry and hope it wasn't true.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2014 -> 06:40 PM) In my lifetime, Terry Bevington is so far ahead of this race it isn't even funny. The guy was an awful tactician, and his team's hated him. Ventura at least seems to have the respect of his players. Word! Anyone that says Robin is the worst, likely wasn't around when Bevington was a manager. Good gawd he was light years beyond horrible. I doubt there's words in the English language that can properly describe just how horrible he was.
  16. For f*** sake, here we go again ! No worries, I'll close the door behind me on my way out.
  17. f***ing figures Tank, ADA and Beckham s*** the bed when it counts. Anyone know if Kelly Leak can still hit?
  18. Haha, the batter starts a fight and runs away only to get tackled and piled on. That's what you get.
  19. Any chance Hawk hangs out in Coopers town for an extended stay. Like the Stone/ Wimpy combo a lot.
  20. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 08:38 PM) Depending on what you think of his age (considering Phegley is in AAA) and his rawness coming out.. I'm well aware though. I know what you mean, man. I think what keeps Smith as a legit prospect is that he can hit, at least at Birmingham anyway. Like you, I'm going to be watching Austin close. Dude hit pretty well at NC.
  21. Fuking stud! That is all!
  22. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 08:32 PM) Austin 3-4, 2B, RBI. Would love to see him get hot. IMO, He's the best catching prospect in our system (although I do like Barazza alot too). Let's not forget Kevan Smith.
  23. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 06:34 PM) I don't disagree to an extent but I would not read anything into the fact Danks has not been traded yet. Last year hahn waited till the last minute on Peavy and in the end it took a 3rd team to make it happen. I think Danks contract is a problem but Hahn may just be holding out for a better deal than what he has been offered................. Or he wants to keep Danks I see what you're saying. I guess my line of thinking is when I see potential suitors trading for other pitchers and it just makes me wonder. I really hope I'm just reading into nothing really.
