  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 12:20 PM) Not sure about this. I mean, every Cubs site I've been on the fans are acting like Bulls fans when they beat the Heat in January. They're pretty damn stoked from what I've seen. Yeah they are and understandably so. If the fans are hyped (which they are), attendance numbers should rise as these prospects are called up. Jersey sales for the prospects should help with the finances too. I think after all these years cub fans got tired of wasting money to see a bunch of over paid hacks and decided to stay home until the cubs put something on the field to get excited about. As long as the economy holds out, the cub fans will return to their crumbling palace in time.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 10:37 AM) Generous contract extensions to Magglio Ordonez, Paul Konerko, Jose Contreras, Mark Buehrle (but not twice), Jermaine Dye, AJ, etc. Yes sir, the Sox went real crazy when they signed Navarro. Oops.lol.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 07:08 AM) I think you mean taking on Rios' salary/contract obligations. Albert Belle. Manny Ramirez for $4 million/one month, haha. The offer to Tanaka. Thank you. Abreu is the most recent spending and in fact it was jerry that pushed the offer higher. Jerry has also shown he's willing to spend money extending players as well. The jerry is cheap comments really do get old.
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 11:04 PM) I will be as clear as possible and my inbox is full so I can't reply privately. There is a TON of room on the payroll. When this team starts to build we will be buyers, and heavy buyers at that. I firmly believe one arm in the rotation and at least one pen arm will be bought when we have to contend. I know for a fact they will open up the wallet when it's time. I'm not surprised. Jerry has shown plenty of times in the past that he's not afraid to open his wallet. Patience Sox fans.
  5. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 07:06 PM) I'd rather have the financial flexibility going forward. If you're talking about finding someone to fill out the rotation for the rest of the year, sign Wandy Rodriguez to the minimum. There is already space in the payroll as is and that doesn't include Dunn's contract coming off the books after the season is over. I really am all for trading Danks, just don't want to trade him as a salary dump as its not necessary.
  6. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 04:55 PM) A thousand times this. Just get rid of him. The return is irrelevant. Considering there isn't anyone to fill the hole Danks would leave or the two holes we currently have in the rotation, I'd say the return could be relevant after all.
  7. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 11:58 AM) Agree - his contract is a big anchor. Dunn's contract is the real anchor here but that's only for 3 more months if he isn't traded before then. Danks has been pitching to the value of his contract and considering the Sox still have two holes to fill in the rotation, I'd say Danks contract is a welcome one at this time. That said, I'd trade Danks in the right deal. Hopefully for a young starter.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 06:55 AM) It is funny when the Sox acquire a prospect rated in the 70-95 range it is awesome, but when the Cubs get a top 15 guy, it is just dumb. Theo is a dope, but could you imagine what a genius Hahn would be if he had 3 of the top 15 and 6 of the top 41 in the Sox minor league system? Samardz has never finished a season as a starter with an ERA lower than 3.81. He is 29. He wants more than $100 million. In all fairness, you're right. Sox fans, my self included, would s*** their britches if the Sox had a farm like the cubs and Hahn would be canonized. The cubs can flip excess hitters for pitchers, just like the Sox can develope pitching to aquire hitting.
  9. WOW! We really need some trade rumors to discuss, or at least make some up for the time being.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 12:45 PM) I'd really like to not hear "El Canon" this weekend, it just doesn't work. No kidding. I don't know of any Sox fans it has caught on with. There has to be something better.
  11. Would love to see Hawk's entire verbal repertoire retired as a starting point.
  12. I think with pitch counts its about unnecessary wear and tear on a young pitcher who is pitching for a rebuilding team. The harder you work the longer its going to take to recover, don't get enough time to recover the body becomes susceptible to injury.
  13. Pitch #120 for Danks just went over the fence. Thought I'd go ahead and cue the music.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 02:04 PM) For those hoping that the Sox go over the caps, here are a few good reasons that they won't. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/04/amat...17-percent.html All overages are taxed at 100 percent. Exceed bonus pool by 5 to 10 percent: Team is not allowed to sign a player for more than $500K in the following international signing period. Exceed by 10 to 15 percent: Team is not allowed to sign a player for more than $300K in the following international signing period. Exceed by more than 15 percent: Team is not allowed to sign a player for more than $300K in the following two international signing periods. Yanks won't be signing any top picks next year.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 07:24 AM) https://twitter.com/robertreidryan/status/4...5781120/photo/1 Speculation where? You know it's the kiss of death when they start selling a high school pitcher's jersey in stores before he's even signed a contract. Well, the only things left is to give Brady the keys to the city, erect his statue inside the ballpark and induct him into the hall.
  16. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 04:10 PM) Lol no. I imagine a guy sitting at an important business meeting, negotiating commissions for a huge corporate merger. This deal could salvage dozens of jobs and allow the partners a chance to recoup a large fraction of the profits they agreed to forego in last year's AOL/Time-Warner buyout, in order to ensure that the vision of their product wasn't bastardized. Unfortunately, venture funding dried up after a few deadlines were missed, and suddenly a loan had to be secured to meet payroll over the last three months. It all looks good but there's a tension in the room, borne of the desperation that results from being at the proverbial "one yard line" with so much at stake. Suddenly, a vibration from a smartphone in a pocket. What's this? A notification. A new post has been made to a subscribed thread on Soxtalk.com. Ok, whatever, no big deal, I'm sure it's just anoth-- wait. what? The DRAFT PICK THREAD? "Gentlemen I- I'm sorry but I need to go look into something," says the ragged, sleep-addled man."It's just, uh, well we can resume this conversation tomorrow, yes?" Ignoring the poorly concealed frustration of the businessmen in the conference room, the man hastily packs his briefcase and exits the room with a smile. The drive home is hazy; the cat sneaks outside via the front door, left carelessly ajar upon the man's entrance. Laptop opened. Bookmark clicked. PHT. Draft Pick Thread. *scroll wheel* *scroll wheel* "Con somebody message me when this thread resumes being about draft picks???" Holy s*** this was funny!
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 02:21 PM) His look is more like "whaddya mean he gets to throw over to first? HOw is that fair?" So its more of a confused look. I think the look comes from when someone told him he couldn't steal first.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 02:09 PM) 0 stars for confused De Aza. No doubt he's confused but the look is more like, constipation.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 02:00 PM) They may just be clearing out the DH slot at Charlotte to give more at bats to the Semien/Johnson/Saladino/Sanchez 4 headed monster. Ah, that makes sense. They are juuuuust a bit over crowded at Charlotte.
  20. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 01:55 PM) At the end, this will be the pic that defines the Sox 2014 season.
  21. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 01:48 PM) Oh you mean the nude Freddy Garcia pic? Here you go: Haha, that's it! Classic. I was thinking the gorilla was a good representation of Adam Dunn's approach at the plate.
  22. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 01:11 PM) I will rate your profile 5 stars, and also Dick Allen's profile 5 stars. Edit: I also rated wite's profile 5 stars out of pure sarcasm and St. Roostifer 5 stars because I forgot to do that yesterday. Did you know EMinor that Wite's 4 star rating was higher than either mine or yours, or DA's or Roostifers? That is terrible. I can't believe that. Good god. 5 stars right back at ya champ. Hey, where's Marty been? Haven't seen him around for a bit. I'm still waiting for you to post the laid back gorilla pick.
  23. Is Black going to Birmingham to make room for Ravelo at Charlotte?
  24. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 09:22 PM) I think we ought to see what teams will give for Quintana. Don't trade unless it's a big premium price, but I'd take a look. On a rebuilding team with two holes in the rotation already? I understand the haul would have to be big but the Sox have enough pitching problems as is.
  25. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 07:34 PM) Or swing harder to clear those deep fences. Yeah, I thought about that too. I hope that's not the case. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 07:36 PM) Beck couldn't get out of the 5th. Not sure he was ready for AAA. Ouch! Maybe the Sox will give him a few more shots in case its nerves.
