  1. Also like to add that if May can keep hitting, he will be in Birmingham with Anderson and Hawkins next year.
  2. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 03:47 PM) Stoltz told me last night that a move to Birmingham may be beneficial to Hawkins not because not he deserves to play in AA, but because Birmingham is a very pitcher friend park vs. W-S which is very hitter heavy. Thinks it may help Hawkins learn to be a better hitter by not swinging for HR all the time. He thinks Hawkins skipping over Kanny was a mistake for that reason, park factor. I like the line of thinking on Hawkins. Hopefully the more spacious park will help Hawkins try to hit the gaps more leading to more doubles and triples and raise the batting average. In theory anyway.
  3. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 02:10 PM) If Ozzie Guillen got 8 seasons, Ventura deserves 20. I'm not a fan of Ventura as a manager but I cannot argue against this logic. Damn, you had to go and drag Ozzie into this.
  4. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 12:59 PM) It's going to be interesting to see what Anderson and Hawkins can do in AA next year. Indeed. I'm really impressed with how Hawkins has rebounded this season.
  5. Let's put it this way. Robin doesn't always manage well and Robin does not have the most talent to work with and the injuries are not his fault either. You can't polish a turd. Between Robin making dumb decisions, injuries, a lack of quality starting pitching for the two rotation holes and a severe lack of bullpen options along with the projects that haven't worked, I'm surprised the Sox don't have the worst record in baseball.
  6. May is 2/3 with 2B, 1 R, 2 RBI and the average up to .244
  7. Anderson is 3/4 with 3R and RBI Hawkins is 2/3 with a HR, 5 RBI, 1R, 1sb Have a game fellas!
  8. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 11:37 AM) They brought him up?? I guess so. He's listed as tonights starter for Birmingham but so is Surkamp with Charlotte so it sounds like Beck went to Charlotte when Surkamp went to Chicago.
  9. Looks like Danish has been dealing with whatever it is for a bit. He had a start June 22 but before that he had not started since June 8 so he was skipped in during that time. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?s...&pid=641501
  10. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 11:04 AM) He's also leading the entire international league in strikeouts while only giving up 2 BB/9. Why would we damn him forever based on 7 ML appearances over the past 3 years? Is it not possible something changed after a formerly touted prospect joined a new organization that has a history of being above-average in reclamation projects? No s***, its not like the Sox haven't tried other options or have much left to choose from. Surkamp will have to do, at least for now.
  11. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 10:55 AM) It can be a rebuild and NOT be what the Cubs are doing. Yup. I think the depth of the cubs rebuild is deeper than the Sox. Hendry just tore that organization all to hell.
  12. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 09:43 AM) you do know if he does sign, he is going to have a clause in there that will force the sox to begin his clock around sep of this yr. I understand what you're saying, I'm just not assuming it will be part of the deal until its confirmed when he signs.
  13. " When do you fire Robin"? I didn't see the option I was looking for and since this is or used to be a democratic society, I'm going to write in my vote. So my answer to the question would be, last winter.
  14. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 09:08 AM) With the Sox out of it now, push Rodon's clock as late as possible next year. Then hope for 160 starts from 2016-2020, and see what happens---keep him for 2021 if the Sox are good, or trade him for prospects, since he's a Boras client. Yup. Hell, if anything, Rodon taking a ciesta is just helping the Sox delay the start of his clock. I understand how everyone wants to see the new toy run and all but we do need to be patient which isn't easy when your team sucks.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 09:00 AM) The problem is that Semien, Erik Johnson and Webb have all fallen on their faces so far. Davidson's sporting a 650ish OPS at Charlotte. Garcia's injured. That leaves Abreu, Eaton and Conor Gillaspie as the lone positives (and Noesi, maybe). Obviously, Abreu's a huge piece, and Rodon should be as well, so they're still stuck in a bit of a quandary, because by trading/dumping Ramirez, Beckham, Viciedo/DeAza and Dunn, you're talking about replacing 4 starters already, and Flowers/Nieto would be 5. Nobody's going to cry over losing most of those guys, but there's just no way they'll replace Alexei adequately with what we already have in our system...maybe one of Sanchez/Semien is adequate or a replacement level player, but I'm not even counting on that at the moment. But do you honestly think they can afford to wait around on Tim Anderson, Courtney Hawkins and Montas? Why would Hahn hint at putting Rodon in the rotation as soon as next year if they're targeting 2017 and 2018? If the Sox hold that kind of sale for the trade dead line the Rays will have their hands full as far as competition for the #1 pick June 2015. Two holes in the rotation ( jury not in yet on Noesi), a horrible pen and then trading half or more of your starting lineup is going to make this season even more difficult to bare. But we all knew this season was about discovering what we have at the major and minor league levels. At least going into the off season Hahn will have a better idea of what holes need to be filled and what resources he can use to fill those holes.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 08:54 AM) He got that when NC St got knocked out of the playoffs early. And he's getting it again. He's only 21, there's no rush, he'll sign. Patience. Also keep in mind he will need some time in the minors for his body to adjust to pitching every fifth start so let's not put the Sox uni on him just yet.
  17. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 08:37 AM) Wouldn't be surprised if he was traded to the Angels. They are desperate for a bullpen lefty and he was pretty successful there the last three seasons. Maybe for an A baller or cash. Why settle for an A baller when Hank Conger will simply do?
  18. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 08:30 AM) Does that include his catcher at NC State? Not sure to be honest. I have read that the NC infield was pretty bad. Rodon gave up 39 runs in total for the 14 college season and only 22 were earned, very telling about the defense behind him.
  19. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 09:13 PM) Yes times 2 I thought the no no had to be for 18 IP when against the Padres to account for how easy they make it for the opposing pitcher?
  20. I think that in the end were going to find out Rodon was just giving his arm a little ciesta before starting the pro career. This is a big jump and a lot of money for a 21 year old, so who cares if he want to bask in the moment for a few. With his workload and s*** defense behind him at NC, can ya really blame him? Nothing to worry about, Rodon doesn't have the leverage some may think he has.
  21. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 08:04 AM) Would be shocked if it's not Surkamp, especially since Heath isn't on the 40 man, and since Surkamp throws with the hand that makes an L when you look at it. Surkamp does make the most sense. At least he throws strikes. He may get hit around here and there but he will put the ball over the plate.
  22. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 08:50 PM) Yeah, he's playing better but where has the power gone? He hit 8 HRs last year in like 200 ABs. Its gone into his doubles/triples totals. He has quite a few considering he's only batting .240. Love the steals too.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 04:56 PM) He has had 2 TJ surgeries. And the Sox have two gaping holes in the rotation with no real talent ready to step in. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 04:59 PM) Actually before his prime too. We traded young Doug Drabek for f'nn Roy Smalley junior. s***, forgot about that. Good call.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 04:26 PM) Plus, his father pitched for the White Sox. Yes he did, unfortunately after his prime. If Kyle were able to turn it around the Sox could control him into his prime since he's under team control through 2018 according to baseball reference. Right hander with wicked movement and under long term control, I'm in. But, this is all based on "if's".
