  1. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Mar 21, 2014 -> 03:49 PM) How do we know that. Fangraphs slapped a few articles up, I guess. Eaton, Abreu, Davidson, L. Garcia and Avi are waving hello. Go ahead and wave back, its OK.
  2. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Mar 21, 2014 -> 09:28 AM) Law has his first prospect rankings (top 50) for the draft up: 1 Brady Aiken 2 Kolek 3 Rodon 4 Beede 5 Grant Holmes - Plus fastball that he can run up to 98 with great feel and control. 6 Hoffman 7 Jackson Others of notw 15 Newcomb 19 Gatewood 20 Turner 39 Toussaint Thanks for posting this. According to Law, the Sox potentially have a choice between Rodon or Beede. That's a difficult decision that I would gladly welcome.
  3. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Mar 21, 2014 -> 09:33 AM) Totally agree, I am anticipating the SoxTalk meltdown in June saying that Hahn is moron who acquired a bunch of bums when some of these guys start to struggle through their first full seasons. Offensively this is going to be a season of us taking our licks and getting the some of the kinks worked out. We are starting 3 rookies to start the season and could be up to 5 or six by August 1, this is going to be a year for getting guys accustomed to the majors. No kidding. We all know the Sox were awful last year and Hahn has done a hell of a job getting quality young guys through trades as well as the signing of JDA. Yet a few folks here would rather continue to point out potential negatives instead of focusing on the positives or at least potential positives . It really is a sad perspective. There are still holes and question marks but i realize rebuilds take time and am very excited to see what the youngsters are capable of. Some people can never be pleased nor stop focusing on the negatives. How sad.
  4. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Mar 20, 2014 -> 03:40 PM) Where do you rank strikeouts with a runner on third and less than two outs? I don't, it was a joke hence the smiley with tongue sticking out. Lighten up, Francis. Bottom line is if the Sox had or could find a better option, this thread would not exist. Rebuilds take time, deal with it.
  5. Personally, I like strikeouts. With a base runner at first, Tyler striking out means he didn't hit into a DP.
  6. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 12:24 PM) A full 8 months younger than Kolek even, a true pup. Yes he is. I'm pretty high on Kolek but after watching more video of Aiken, I'd say he's right there with Kolek or pretty close. As far as stuff goes, Aiken reminds me a bit of Gio. Draft day is going to be an exciting day for Sox fans
  7. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 11:17 AM) Well Keith Law has a new draft crush... "Between this spring and last summer I've seen all of the top prospects for this year's draft, including Carlos Rodon, Tyler Beede, Jeff Hoffman, Alex Jackson, Tyler Kolek, and Jacob Gatewood, and I'd take Aiken over all of them. " He says that he showed four pitches, two of them plus, and projects he will have three grade 60 or better pitches when it's all said and done. 6'4'' lefty, solid build and clean delivery, could be in the mix? I'd still be shocked if the Sox go HS pitcher, but who knows. Thanks for posting this. Just watched video of him, thats a hell of a curve ball he's got. I can see why Law said what he did.
  8. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 08:11 AM) Is Kolek reputed to be a tough sign? Inquiring minds wanna know. Haven't read anything that indicates one way or another but from what I have read this kid loves baseball. Last I read he's the top HS pitcher so its hard to imagine this kid would turn down millions and a chance to start his professional baseball career to go play college ball. I'm with you Stan, would love to sign Kolek if Rodon and Beebe are unavailable. I havent written off Hoffman but unless he turns it around he would be my fourth choice (maybe not even that) behind Kolek, Beebe and Rodon. I keep looking at video on Kolek and the kid is very impressive. People can knock his slider and curve all they want but those pitches are still impressive for an 18 yo. At that age its hard to imagine those pitches won't improve as he matures over the next few years.
  9. Sounds like they are scratching the workouts to work on the field. Hard to get the field ready when payers are doing workouts on it.
  10. I wouldn't have a problem trading Ramirez to the tigers, don't know what to realistically expect in return tho. I doubt the tigers would be interested in Ramirez since he's signed through 2015 and they are high on Iglesias who's still young.
  11. Better options might be ab's with the Bandits or the Boomers.
  12. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 11, 2014 -> 11:20 PM) Not to lose to the Indians. Does it really matter if more Indians fans vote in a completely meaningless and pointless contest that's designed to get hits for a website as well as a pathetic attempt to grow the fan base for a talk show? This is one vote I'd be more than happy to lose seeing as how it means absolutely nothing. The less Sox fans chime in, the smarter the overall fan base.
  13. OK, I'm going to ask the obvious question of; wtf is the point?
  14. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 11:02 PM) OT: Am I the only one who still wants us to do whatever it takes outside of Sale/Abreu/Garcia to land Giancarlo Stanton? I think so. Thing is IF the Marlins made Stanton available there are other teams with plenty more to offer than the Sox have. I'd love to see what kind of numbers Stanton would put up at the Cell but its just not realistic.
  15. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 01:03 PM) ^ Let's throw Sean Casey into the mix while were at it.
  16. This is good news. Glad to hear Q is still on track after that come backer.
  17. Thanks Merkin, we knew this months ago, lol. Must be a slow day for Sox news.
  18. I'm going to guess 79-83. I love the talented youth the Sox have but there's most likely going to some growing pains so I think they'll fall just shy of 500. Would be 69-93 had the Sox signed Ervin Santana.
  19. This makes no sense unless cinci has a young starter they want to bring up. Cinci's outfield seems set so I doubt they would want ADA or Viciedo. Just makes no sense, but it is Levine spewing this s*** so go figure.
  20. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 27, 2014 -> 03:31 PM) Nah, I like Dunn, but I don't think he's happy with the Sox right now. That's mere opinion, I don't have quotes or sources or anything like that, just piecing things together. Wasn't there something written somewhere a few months ago about he kind of illuded to wanting to get out of Chicago or something along those lines? I can't for the life of me remember but I thought it was back in December. I agree about Dunn though, I think he would benefit from a change of scenery. For whatever reason it just hasn't worked out for Dunn or the Sox.
  21. QUOTE (KG#1 @ Feb 27, 2014 -> 07:38 AM) Not sure if this was posted elsewhere, but thought it was funny... The paper really should say " John Danks brother, the morning after a hard night of drinking". Man does Jordan look hung over!
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 27, 2014 -> 01:29 PM) Also, I totally thought this said Adam Dunn is headed to the Orioles when I first glanced at it. Thought or wished? I see no problem with this although I'm sure there's a few that will. If it were closer to opening day then yes, by all means complain but this early in ST its no biggie.
  23. According to this... "I think there's really an opportunity for him if we want to bat him second, he has that kind of approach at the plate, he does have some speed that we can utilize there," Ventura said. "When you look at it, you like what you see when you see him in there. It might happen." It sounds more like something they are willing to try this based on rationale, yet not set in stone. I'd rather see Avi in the three hole but if they experiment with him in the two hole and he does well I certainly won't complain.
  24. What about the shorts? If you're going retro you've got to have the shorts.
  25. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Feb 25, 2014 -> 09:13 AM) Kolek's biggest issue is that he is not very projectable, his frame is very mature, though it doesn't all look like good weight. On the other side, he already has elite velo, and a pretty good arsenal. I could see him sneaking in as the #1 pick if he will give the Astros a hometown discount. As a local kid, it would help a lot with their marketing efforts and he has a chance to be a top of the rotation arm in the not to distant future. I dont know, I've seen pics and it doesn't look like the kid is holding all that much extra weight. He's not ripped by any means, he just a big county bred kid. I think for now Rodon goes #1 with his fastball, wicked slider and being a lefty it will be difficult to knock off his perch. #2 could be up in the air depending on how Kolek improves his command otherwise #2 most likely will be Hoffman. I Can see a possibility of Brandon Finnegan jumping into the top five to make the third pick even more interesting for the Sox. Truth is there's a long way to go before draft day arrives but I do feel confident in Rick Hahn and co. to do their homework in order to take advantage of the high picks they have when draft day finally arrives. Unless something changes, with all the pitching talent available I would almost guarantee we draft a pitcher with the first pick.
