QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Feb 24, 2014 -> 02:25 PM) If you look at him in any of the scouting videos, he is not a fat guy. Most of the weight is in the legs, no real signs of a gut. I mean, the kid is from nowheresville (Shepherd), Texas and probably has been living on fat, greasy southern cooking his entire life. If he gets on a professional exercise regimen and diet, that will take care of all problems. That is why the draft interview process is so crucial in determining someone's wok ethic, drive, etc. to make sure he will put in the work to be physically fit. I've read up a bit on Kolek and from what I gathered he was raised on a farm so he has work ethic. Also his size and selection of pitches has been compared to the likes of a young Kerry Wood. If the Sox were to draft him we can be greatful Dusty Baker isn't the manager. If Rodon and Hoffman go 1/2 I'm hoping the Sox draft Kolek. That's as of now, that can change depending on how all these kids do between now and draft day.

Who is Your Favorite Sox Player Playing for Other Team?
BlackSox13 replied to greg775's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I've got to go with Buehrle and AJ a close second. Before he retired my favorite X white Sox players were Maggs and Big Frank. -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 24, 2014 -> 10:36 PM) Does this debate have to enter EVERY SINGLE THREAD?! Seriously, right! Santana has nothing to do with Paulino and Rienzo dueling for a starting rotation spot. Because people keep bringing up Santana throughout multiple threads tells me they are simply looking for attention and know that mentioning Sanatana's name will get them the attention they seek. With the new acquisitions this off season you would think a few posters would be willing to talk more about those players instead of a player who isn't even on the team. Whine, whine, whine, Boohoo.
-
Start Abeu at 1B with Dunn at dh against Nolasco, paulie has plenty of time for saying goodbye throughout the season.
-
We all agree Rienzo needs to work on his command so he needs to be a starter and since the Sox are going with Paulino and Johnson , Rienzo is better off at AAA. If the Sox need him they call him up. The Sox have plenty of RH relievers as is without adding Rienzo to the mix.
-
Leave Rienzo at AAA and if Paulino struggles or gets hurt Rienzo can be called up, this way Rienzo's arm is stretched out.

With the logjam, Dunn to get time in the outfield

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Feb 16, 2014 -> 03:39 PM) Things ain't exactly great these days over on 35th Roostifer. I agree but things have improved and last season has been over for a while now. Its better to look forward to this season than to live in last season. A matter of perspective really.

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Feb 16, 2014 -> 03:28 PM) I don't see how you can say "I don't care about injury" when that obviously limits the trade value of a player. It's not like they could have waited till later, he was a FA at the end of the season. That's...dude, Marty, you gotta stop tilting at windmills. And call Sancho "TUC" Panza off, too. You sir are on a roll today. I tip my Sox cap to you.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Feb 16, 2014 -> 03:28 PM) And you shockingly took to the organization's defense. And you shockingly nitpick every little thing about the team you're a fan of, like you always do. Talk about the poster child of pessimism.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Feb 16, 2014 -> 03:06 PM) Bad asset management, Roostifer. How so? Can't wait to hear your explanation.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Feb 16, 2014 -> 02:46 PM) The Sox turned Gavin Floyd, Jake Peavy, Alex Rios, Jessie Crain, and Matt Thornton into Leury and Avisail Garcia. That was a bad job of asset management. They can't afford to devalue their tradable players in order to save money. Floyd, Crain and Thornton had nothing to do with Leury and Avi. Floyd became a FA, Crain was traded to TB and Thornton was traded to Boston before Peavy in a completely separate deal. Where do you come up with this stuff?

Let this be a lesson. Do strain too hard on the toilet! Gotta watch it when trying to push those rock hard diving bells out of your arse.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Feb 15, 2014 -> 05:17 PM) Yall aren't doing that cuz yall are HATIN HATIN! You call everyone out for " hatin" but what would you call b****ing relentlessly over and over again about Dunn through how many different threads now? Hello pot, meet kettle.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 15, 2014 -> 04:52 PM) Honestly, I would prefer the Sox sign Jimenez or Santana over this, and I've argued extensively against signing them. Lol, you ain't lying! The idea of signing Cruz is just ludicrous.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 15, 2014 -> 04:36 PM) Actually by balancing the middle of the lineup with a lefty bat, which De Aza won't do because he's not a middle of the order bat, Dunns presence should be quite valuable for Garcia and Abreu. The team absolutely needs to break those righties up and De Aza will not be hitting 5th any time soon. Absolutely. Dunn is still a legit HR threat and our best threat from the left side. I still believe Dunn can be more productive if the Sox can get better production from the top of the order. I see it the way, we've put up with Dunn for three years now, there's no harm in one more season or possibly less.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Feb 15, 2014 -> 04:31 PM) At the expense of the rebuilding effort. That is tremendously shortsighted. Talk about short sighted, look at your posts sometime. Dunn in the lineup hinders nobody. Now we have official come full circle. Anybody hear anything else about Capuano? Are the Sox really interested?
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Feb 15, 2014 -> 03:54 PM) A Danks/Dunn roster combination accomplishes the same thing at a savings of about $4M. Again, paying ADA 4m to serve as a bench player that hits well enough to play ever day is a far cry from paying Dunn 15m to not play at all which is what we were discussing in the first place. Apples and oranges really. As long as the Sox are paying Dunn, I want his ass in the lineup, period.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Feb 15, 2014 -> 03:39 PM) Why pay De Aza $4M to sit on the bench if money is an issue. Well the obvious answer would be its better to pay ADA 4m to be the bench player that can rotate into the lineup to give days off to young players that aren't used to the 162 game grind as well as provide backup to injury then to pay Dunn 15m to stay off the team or to play for another.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Feb 15, 2014 -> 03:30 PM) It's difficult to believe anyone would think that Dunn and De Aza at worst hold the same value to this rebuild. Neither are a part of the future therefore neither hold any future value to this team.
-
QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Feb 15, 2014 -> 03:24 PM) What are the chances of any team offering to take on any significant portion of that salary? How great does he have to be? How far does the guy have to turn back the clock for any of that to happen? How realistic is ANY of that? IMO it's more realistic that Felipe Paulino finishes top-5 in the Cy Young than it is Dunn looks like the Cincy masher & some team offers us a #10-15 spect out of a medicore system or $4-5M salary relief. You're almost there. You're at the table, the waitress is just staring blankly at you chomping her gum (she's got other table ya know) just sit down and tell you want the coffee. Paying Dunn to not play gives you zero salary relief whereas playing Dunn gives you a chance of trading him and getting SOME salary relief. If Dunn hits, OK, some team in contention just might be willing to take on the remainder of his salary in hopes that he can help them out and it would only be for the remainder of the season, no long term commitment as far as salary goes because hes a FA after 14 anyway. Not playing Dunn doesn't even give you this option yet still paying his salary.
-
There's just too many reasons to list why the Sox should not even consider Cruz .
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Feb 15, 2014 -> 03:14 PM) De Aza though is more important than Dunn. Really, this is your response? Neither have importance as far as a rebuild is concerned because neither have a future with this team. Your point is irrelevant, in fact its not a point at all.
