QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 07:26 PM) Yeah, I'm in for it. Somewhere someone just said " oh no you di'int"!

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 07:18 PM) Pods is more clutch and he hits a higher average Oh s***, now you've done it.

Unless Bovada has a direct link to the mind of Tanaka these odds are utterly useless because there's no way of knowing what decision Tanaka will make. I have to admit, the more of a circus this becomes the more I'd like to see the Sox say screw this and walk away. I wonder if there will be dancing bears with guys on unicycles and Justin Beber singing on the day Tanaka makes his announcement.

Bobby Jenks wants to make a comeback

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 07:48 AM) The guy made 26M in his career. After the government gets their 40% slave cut, that's still 14M or so that he'd have to blow to be broke. Although with things these days I would not be shocked to hear he was in debt and owing child support etc after a divorce. Exactly. I refuse to feel sorry for a multi-millionaire that didn't spend or invest their money wisely. There are people out there divorced and paying child support on a much smaller salary not to mension the people losing their jobs, their homes etc due to a tough economy, so Boof***inhoo. I wish bobby well but these we're decisions he made. -
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 10:19 AM) While you're right, there are a lot of starting pitchers to be desired. Sure some will sign extensions but... Scherzer Shields Lester Bailey Masterson Perhaps seeing how this year plays out and then deciding whether we want to spend on a RH #1,#2 or #3. Namely Shields/Bailey. Seeing this list after the Kershaw news yesterday makes me think the Sox better hold on to what young pitching they have to see how they develope. I hope they draft a pitcher in June.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 01:19 AM) Yeah, at this point unless some team is willing to pay like 90% of his contract, and that money saved allows to add a pitcher like Garza, Jimenez, Burnett, or someone, then I'd rather just hold on to Dunn and try to move him at the deadline to a team who needs a power boost for the stretch run and doesn't mind eating the $5M or whatever remaining on the deal. Yup, exactly this. There will be desperate teams as the deadline approaches and as long as Dunn hits OK , the Sox will get plenty of calls on him. This frees up money for next off season when we look to sign/trade for a DH/1B/LF depending on what we do with Abreu and Tank. I'd say if Abreu and Tank are the future 1B/DH then we would probably have to find us a LH LF with some pop.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 12:05 AM) MLBTR suggests the Pirates would like a lefty 1B to platoon with Gaby Sanchez. I wonder what they would be willing to give us if we send them Dunn and $14M. Jerry isnt going to pay Dunn 14M to play for another team and Dunn really isn't worth much regardless how much money we send. One option might be a straight dump by placing Dunn on waivers like Toronto did with Rios and hope a team claims him. I'm not saying this should be done but it is an option. Of course for all we know the Sox have tried, lol.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 10:17 PM) Anyone in town that likes fun things should check out diarrhea planet on Sunday at Lincoln hall. I forgot. Thanks for throwing em out there, I like it. Going to grab their music off band camp now. Just what I've been looking for.

Dinosaur Pileup will be at the HOB Feb.26.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 10:32 PM) All good points, but no Arizona? Gotta watch AZ. They have money, a good rotation already in place and a MUCH better team overall than the chubs. Oh, and AZ is much closer to japan than wiggley field. I think Tanaka is why Towers went after Trumbo instead of a hitter on the FA market. Trumbo is cheaper than a FA and now they can use that money saved to make a serious run at Tanaka. Just a guess.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 09:25 PM) "Are you sure they didn't say beware of Clark The Cub?" Ya know, for a bear I thought he'd be hung just a weeeeee bit more. I didn't really see much at all to be wary of. Unless your knocking down beers and worried what might happen if you pass out before that half nekked bear.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 07:23 PM) B & B = Bed & Breakfast I'm going to start calling them that from now on I think How about " beavis and butthead" , even though Boers and Bern's aren't as intelligent.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 06:38 PM) The crazier this thing gets, the less likely the signing team is to benefit from the deal. Yeah its really messed up. You're raising the price to eliminate some competition all the while de-valuing the player/contract your trying to sign. If you don't plan on trading this player its no biggie but if you do you're f***ed. Basically Boston with Dice-K.
-
I think the Kershaw signing is going to help weed out the Tanaka window shoppers since the standard has been raised. Glad Im not a Dodger fan living in LA, no way I could afford ticket and concession stand prices as I'm sure theyre bound to go up.
-
Thanks to Kershaw, Sale and his contract are invaluable now. Of course, the pitching bar has been raised so even mediocrity will be paid very well. Can't imagine what Sale could ask for had he waited another year, considerably more than his current contract.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 05:19 PM) BTW I was just wondering why when a user (like moi) makes a s***load of posts in a relatively short period of time he is called a post whore? That doesn't make sense to me. I mean, I'm not spreading my internet legs and taking in somebody else's through the gap there, I'm actually more like thrusting my posts into the gaps of other internet users who are willing to be receptive. That would make me more of a post stud or post jammer or something. Unless of course you're the type of person who associates the term "whore" as acceptable for use on both men and women, because then I'd indeed be a post whore. But I don't and I don't know why anyone else would either. Because simpletons like their child-like catchphrases and apparently if you posts multiple times you're trying to boost your post count even when your not. I've seen this before on other boards. Some believe the number of posts gives them status on the board but if youre posting too much those same people refer to you as a post padding post whore even when you don't care about your overall post count which leads us back to the grade school mentality of catchphrases and thus the cycle continues. So, its not looking good for the Sox to sign Tanaka. I suppose this is a good thing if its looking like 20M+ annually.

Bobby Jenks wants to make a comeback

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 03:41 PM) I want him back, but the poor guy should probably hang it up with back problems. I wonder if he could be a good color commentator, though he's already been out of the news a long time and has been forgotten in baseball outside of Chicago I'd bet. Back problems make me cringe just thinking about the pain he'll be having if he starts dealing again. This quote is why I just can't see a come back... "It was like laying on your side and having a semi ride over the top of your head," Jenks said of the pain. He returned to his then-Arizona home following the surgery, sat down on his couch and said he felt a feeling like someone was pouring a bottle of water down his back. That water was spinal fluid. "Just exploded out from the incision," Jenks said. "There was a chance that if I would have gone to bed that night, I wouldn't have woken up." If this were me, I'd be happy I'm not in a wheel chair or worse. I wouldn't even be thinking of a come back. -
QUOTE (midway @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 03:26 PM) I'd love to see Tanaka with the White Sox, but his wife is an actress and wants to be where she can pursue her acting career... seems like LA or New York would be the place to be for that. This is a great point. Maybe its why the Dodgers only went 7 years with Kershaw, save a few bucks and throw it Tanaka's way. I didn't think the Dodgers would have the money for Tanaka but I could be wrong. If he signed with LA she can fly back from Japan for home games.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 03:26 PM) That brings their payroll to roughly $240M this year. How the f*** are they gonna afford Tanaka? Lol! Wait, they will want to extend Ramirez too!
-
Wow, almost 31M per year and the deal comes with an opt-out clause after the 5th year. I hope for the Dodgers sake that Kershaw's shoulder and elbow hold up because he has racked up some innings for such a young pitcher. And people are scared about Tanaka. Nevertheless Kershaw is a f***ing stud. Congrats to him on his deal.

Stewart and Axe are not depth, they are fluffers and that's all.

Bobby Jenks wants to make a comeback
BlackSox13 replied to The Ultimate Champion's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Thanks for the memories bobby, but no thanks to a come back reunion. I just dont see multiple back surgeries to fix these problems leading to a come back. His past with alcohol and pain killers is irrelevant since I believe anyone can move forward from previous addictions but multiple back surgeries, nope, not happening. Enjoy retirement bobby and be greatful your back is in good enough shape to allow you to do so. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 10:45 PM) I am crying laughing so hard at this. http://deadspin.com/comcast-sportsnet-airs...with-1501633812? utm_campaign=socialflow_deadspin_facebook&utm_source=deadspin_facebook&utm_medium=socialflow I just did the same thing. I watched this on my tablet with the earphones in while watching a horror movie on TV with my lady. I started laughing and my lady looked at me like I was crazy. I can hear Adam Sandler's voice when I watched the link " hey Clark, show mamma your cock and balls".

I'd take these projections with a grain of salt. Hard to project players getting ready start their first full major league season. I'm sure some projections will be close and others way out there.
