I like this. Watched some of him from 2012 and if he can regain his old form he'll have place on the 25 man roster. Nice curve and change.

QUOTE (Rooftop Shots @ Dec 23, 2013 -> 10:47 AM) GRRR lets try this again Ummmmm, wow! Freaky is right. Looks like the beginning of his delivery is to keep him relaxed and then its knuckle dragging time. Talk about below submarine, at least from that angle. Great find.

Beckham=Cubs "Wait till next year".

QUOTE (beautox @ Dec 23, 2013 -> 12:44 AM) The sox have the pieces to satisfy the yankees. Beckham & Gillaspie would provide some young talent that would be cost effective in keeping them under their 189M target. Even if you throw in Keppinger and 4M it still wouldn't be the worst thing. The players i would be looking at from the yankees farm are Sanchez(pipe dream), Murphy, Manny Banuelos who is now back from TJ (great buy low candidate) and left handed 1B prospect Greg Bird who is miles away from the show. Never heard of Greg Bird but I love his numbers, all be it at A ball. Would assume he'll start at AA in 14 so at the earliest late 15 or 16 season for his MLB debute if he stayed on track? Good looking prospect no doubt.

Let's see... no average, no power, no walks and not even gap power? I call BS too.

QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 09:39 PM) I'm with you -- I'd love to have Murphy. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 09:43 PM) I've never heard of Murphy until tonight. That said, the more catchers to compete in spring training, the better. Right on guys. The Sox and their farm system is rather depleted at the catcher position so if we can get a guy that offers the potential for a brighter future at that position then I say go for it. I just feel it's important to look at not only the 14 season but beyond it as well.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 09:15 PM) I never suggested a trade of Veal or Molina for Murphy, at any point, ever. I said Molina AND Gillaspie, and I said if we were to offer them anyone from our bullpen, then give them Veal, because no one else is worth throwing away on the chance at Murphy becomes a good prospect. You just said in this very post you never suggested Veal but then said you did. What gives? QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 09:25 PM) We're not getting either of those guys (or Castro/Lucroy) without giving up Q. So, I think it's about time we focus on realistic possibilities. I agree and would not give up Q which is why Im discussing Murphy because he is a realistic possibility. Not saying he is the answer, just a possible solution at some point and given his age would fit in with Hahn's plan. Im no scout by any means so I really don't know the value of a prospect like Murphy, this is just for conversations sake really cause it has been slow in the rumor mill.
-
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 09:06 PM) I don't think that shows we are starved for a catcher at all. Being starved means you overpay, not provide fair value. Guys like Veal or Molina that show NO promise are fair value for a 22 yo catcher? Again, these guys won't even make the roster of a team that's rebuilding so why would a contender like the Yanks be interested? They wouldn't.
-
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 09:02 PM) And starved for a catcher so badly that people want JR Murphy for Nate Jones. Or Murphy for guys nobody wants...
-
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 08:41 PM) I don't know that he won't be very good, and you don't know that he will. I just don't see any reason to trade for him, other than to just throw a whole bunch of catchers at the wall and see who sticks. You're right, neither of us know. What I like is that he's only 22 and shows some promise, not that he's a sure bet by any means. I think we can agree there are other options we would both prefer, Rosario and Grandel are the first that come to mind.
-
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 08:06 PM) Nestor Molina will never sniff the big leagues for the White Sox the same way J.R. Murphy will never sniff the big leagues for the Yankees. Both are useless to their organizations, of course Murphy could actually serve as a backup for some other team for a couple years. J.R. Murphy is not very good, I don't know why anyone would give up anything of value for him. I'd rather have Phegley and Nieto. So at only 22 years old Murphy will never develope into anything? Really? Good grief the kid is still a developing prospect at a position that is known for taking longer to develope and you say he won't amount to anything? Please explain how you can possibly know this.
-
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 07:19 PM) Tell me why we shouldn't? In what world does Murphy ever have a chance at making the Yankees roster? If you were the Yankees would you take Veal? Hell, Veal wont even make the roster of the Sox who are rebuilding, the Yanks are contenders. Just because Murphy won't make the Yankees roster doesn't make him a worthless prospect. At only 22 he has plenty of value and I'm sure the Yanks could get a better offer for Murphy than Veal. Gonna have to give to get. Oh and it's not like Jones numbers are spectacular either and especially the way he shows the ball to the hitters during his delivery. Jones is very replaceable.
-
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 07:04 PM) Hell no, I'd never do that deal, not in a million years. Give them Veal for Murphy if you want to move a bullpen guy. Lol, Murphy has more value than that. Come on now. You're not getting Murphy for a scrub, simple as that.
-
It might take a guy like Nate Jones to grab Murphy, which I'd be fine with.
-
QUOTE (glangon @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 05:53 PM) Bad move IMO He hit worse than Flowers in the majors and a lot worse than Phegley in the minors. Gary Sanchez would surely be a better target. Wow. The kid only had 26 AB's last year for the Yanks, hardly worth judging and at only 22 yo I wouldn't judge him too much on his minor league numbers just yet. At 22 Phegley wasn't even at AAA yet. My guess is the Sox are looking at 2015/16 for a kid like this.

Who willl win the Boras/Jay-Z agent war?
BlackSox13 replied to caulfield12's topic in The Diamond Club
Contracts aside, Boras wins based on clientele alone. JayZ has one baseball client and Bora's has how many? -
I have to ask, why on earth would Houston want Dunn? Even if the Sox paid Dunn's entire salary I still cannot see why Houston would want Dunn. Houston knows they won't compete in that division for a long time so it makes no sense. Secondly, why would Houston want to trade Castro? I mean what could the Sox offer that the Sox do not want to keep for their own future? Both scenarios are just pipe dreams in reality that involves the Sox dumping their garbage on a team that is also looking for young, cheap and controllable players much like the Sox are trying to do. Makes no sense. Bottom line is it would be easier to find a young LF, 2B or SS for the future than a young catcher. Teams just don't seem willing to part with them right now since they aren't as easy to develope as other position players. My guess is Hahn is looking to trade/replace Beckham for a young left/switch hitting 2B such as Nick Franklin. Not necessarily Franklin but a young guy along those lines.
-
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 20, 2013 -> 11:26 PM) The 1st and last choices seem like the same thing so I went with concentrate on the catcher. Hahn more than likely is not going to sign one of the expensive relievers. I see it the same way as you, I voted catcher.
-
Nothing to complain about with this deal at all. Love the salary and especially the 64% ground ball rate. Another good deal by Hahn.
-
Isn't Sebastian Valle code for Tyler Flowers?
-
Dunn to the Astros? Really? Im not surprised he would want out of Chicago but I just don't see houston as a destination. Hope I'm wrong.

Sox trade Addison Reed to Diamondbacks for 3b Matt Davidson
BlackSox13 replied to dayan024's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If the Sox can use Ramirez as part of a deal for a young catcher, do it and don't look back. I'd take my chances with L. Garcia or whom ever might show they're worth a shot in spring training. -

Thank you Rick!!! Was hoping the Sox could grab this guy somehow last week during the winter meetings. Fits right in with the other guys that are under long term control. Simply awesome! -
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 11:46 AM) Give away Gavin has moved to the NL..........goodbye. Amen to that! Our ability to throw runners out just went up and the length of the games went down. When healhy he'd probably be pretty decent in the NL.
