I'm all for upgrading offensively at catcher but let's not allow the defense to slip either. Jaso threw out 4 of 28 base stealers last year, that's a rather pathetic 14%. Same piece of trash in Lobaton, caught 10 of 63 base stealers last year for another pathetic 14%. Is this how you help your young pitching staff? Thanks but no thanks, Flowers and Phegley both do much better. The right help will come around, let's be patient for it though instead of settling for something out of desperation.

White Sox pick Adrian Nieto in Rule 5 draft

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 01:44 PM) Agreed, if they can't find a proven catcher in think Phegley needs to start, if he sucks through June then make a move You said it. As the roster sits, maybe guys like Beckham and Ramirez raise their values and be used to get a good catcher. Reed could be a hot seller at the deadline too and could sell high. -
White Sox pick Adrian Nieto in Rule 5 draft

So Phengley made his debut in 13 @ 25 yo in 204 AB's and is never going to amount to anything? Wasn't aware we had scouts posting on this board. I'm not saying he'll will be the next big thing at catcher, but I'm not going to write him off @25 yo after such a small sampling, that's just stupid. You just can't please some fans, I mean scouts. ST should be interesting with the competition at catcher. Could light some fires under a few asses for sure. -
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 07:18 PM) Seriously? Its one of the most exciting plays in the sport. This is baseball, not simulated war like the NFL. You can let them run into each other (especially with one dude wearing enough armor to stop a 100 mph rock) once every so often without incurring a lawsuit. The nice thing about baseball is that its not terribly unsafe or physically ruinous, so it could withstand the onslaught of bleeding hearts without sacrificing its integrity. Guess not. I hope the owners vote it down. Duke, I'm guessing here but the owners are the ones paying the ever increasing salaries so they very well could be all for it. They want to protect their investments. As a fan I think it blows but if I was an owner I would be for it.

I always enjoyed watching those collisions but I understand it. Players are paid to play, not sit in the trainers rooms due to a collision.

Let it be ADA, please. Curious as to what ADA could bring back in return. Lefty reliever maybe?

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 06:30 PM) If they can dump Keppinger, by all means do so, but do not use Semien as the weak half of a platoon as a result. It's up for debate if Semien should even start the season in the majors, but pretty much everyone here agrees he needs regular at-bats either way. I hope for all of our sake's that Hahn isn't that stupid. I absolutely agree. I think Merkin's speculation stems from Gillespie not hitting well against lefties.
-
Semien platooning third with Gillespie sounds more like speculation on Merkin's part. I can easily see the Sox shopping Keppinger though.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 08:55 AM) They made in the same frame of reference, as if they have something to do with each other, and there is no transition. Come on now, this is a Sox message board and not English class. While Lawrie would be great to see in a Sox uni I just dont see why Toronto would give up a 23 yo 3B to the Sox for ADA and whatever else unless the Sox traded another starting pitcher. Toronto is rumored to be shopping Rasmus for a starter. Just don't see a fit.

Hahn may have bigger plans for Eaton and Elmore
BlackSox13 replied to Lillian's topic in Pale Hose Talk
How about this, let's see how Elmore, Eaton and co. play in spring training before critiquing anything. Eaton leading off with Elmore batting second is intruiging enough for me to see how this could play out during ST. With Semien arguably close to making the bigs, L. Garcia and Elmore as infield options, I'd say Beckham's days with the Sox could be numbered. Same could be said for Keppinger if they find a taker. Looks like Hahn is setting up some small ball players for the power guys to drive in and I'm all for that. -
QUOTE (balfanman @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 10:04 AM) Yes, I hate it when people make definitive statements when they have no more information or insight then the rest of us. I enjoy the banter back and forth, and listening to the different opinions, but when posters act like "know it alls" and think that they are smarter then everybody else it turns me off big time. I hear what you're saying, and there's plenty of them around here no doubt. I admit sometimes I'll throw some wild s*** out there, but that's what the trade rumor stuff is about and for me part of the fun. A little off season armchair gm action never hurt anybody. It helps ya through the days where nothing is going on. As for the Sox bench,IMO, I take Danks as the fourth OF over L.Garcia anytime. Danks was drafted as an OF and last I knew was still considered the best defensive OF in the Sox organization. If anything L.Garcia is the odd man out, not Danks. Like you said, this roster is going to change with more trades on the way so there's a lot up in the air.

In an effort to keep it simple, trade Reed for either a catcher or 3B. If the Sox need to add a player(s) from the minors to complete a deal then fine. As for Reeds value, not sure exactly what he's worth but its enough to build a trade around to fill a hole.
-
QUOTE (balfanman @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 08:46 AM) It's way to early to make a definite statement like this. There are probably going to be more trades made and for all we know Dunn could be gone opening up another spot on the bench. Thank you, its sad this had to be explained.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 08:39 AM) What do these have to do with each other? Nothing and that's probably why there not in the same paragraph.

Sox acquire Adam Eaton from ARZ, deal Santiago, Jacobs

QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:52 PM) The Blue Jays site I lurk thought the Angels won the deal, the Sox did well and AZ got screwed. Seems to be the consensus. Although, like here, a handful of guys love Eaton and think the Sox won big as well. Also funny at one point, they started talking about Viciedo as a platoon partner with Adam Lind. Ultimately they thought he was too much of a butcher. Is this the same site they were talking all that s*** about JP? That was hilarious! -
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:07 PM) People are getting Brett Lawrie and Jed Lowrie confused... has anybody gotten Adam Eaton confused with Adam Eaton (pitcher)? Thankfully I've kept them straight, easy since the pitcher has been retired for bit.
-
thanks guys.I couldn't even venture to guess what it would take tog get him. Have no idea want holes Toronto has. I know at one point they Were interested in Beckham, not sure what else we could offer that they would want.
-
QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:00 PM) I am all aboard the Lawrie train as well. Not sure we have what it takes to get that done, but I would definitely go for it. Considering Lowrie's 13 numbers and would be dealing with Billy Beane, I'm thinking it would take alot.
-
I'm thinking he might be ok with regular playing time and he's only 24 so there's room to grow.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 05:37 PM) Giants need an outfielder. Do they have a catcher? They have Hector Sanchez, was mentioned by another poster. http://m.mlb.com/player/516949/hector-sanchez I'd take him for ADA. He wouldn't be my first choice but ADA's value is only so much.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 06:30 PM) Why would they want Gillaspie? Trading Ramirez for Murphy really doesn't make sense either. They have no need to spend a lot on a SS unless it's a significant upgrade due to the presence of Ruben Tejada, and the Sox don't have an adequate replacement for Ramirez at SS, unless you want to see Leury Garcia play there. As I said I read an article yesterday saying the mets could be in the market. I just now read an article written an hour ago stating they would go with Tejada so you are correct. As for Gillespie, bad idea there as I somehow forgot about David wright.

I know, I'm usually building up my music collection on my other device while surfing/posting on this one but I haven't turned the other one on yet. That reminds me...

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 06:49 PM) I have my concerns with Garcia too. I know he has power, but I want to see that power legitimately translated into games. Hitting 1 or 2 long home runs just doesn't do it for me. I think he's going to be a good hitter, but to be a really valuable piece for the Sox, he's going to have to start hitting the ball off and over walls and not just landing it in front of outfielders. We have to keep in mind he is just 22 so given time I think there's nothing to worry about. The power will translate. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 06:45 PM) How much better is Mark Trumbo than Dayan Viciedo? Talent wise, not at all but numbers don't lie and I can't see Viciedo bringing the return Trumbo got. Just my opinion.

QUOTE (southside hitman @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 06:40 PM) keithlaw @keithlaw 1h .@maedwilson I don't believe Avi Garcia is ready/best off starting in majors The problem is in the tweet, Law was thinking again. Avi will be just fine in RF this season for the Sox.
