QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 18, 2018 -> 10:17 AM) 25 pages of debate about a sample size of 7% of a single season we must really be bored this year ^ best post in this entire thread.

So time travel into the future IS possible after all.

Wish I was drunk right now. It would give me an excuse for being so perplexed by this thread. What is this about?

Watch where you step Alice... there's rabbit holes everywhere! I'm still standing by my original thoughts on Moncada. He's young with limited baseball experience in this country compared to many other prospects. He's taking his lumps like pro and still feel he will be fine.

Schoenfield links Sox to Machado, Donaldson, Price

My wife's knickers could be a potential fit but the doesn't mean I'm going to try them on. -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 7, 2018 -> 01:33 PM) No not Paulie but the same guy who worked with PK asst, hitting coach Mike Gellinger. http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/20170805...hanged-my-swing Can't read it because of some stupid survey thing but I'll take your word for it. I probably mixed up info in my head. I do remember Davidson saying he was picking Konerko's brain.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 7, 2018 -> 12:07 PM) Don't forget, Todd was here during Ventura, and a lot of these same guys couldn't hit to save their lives then (Avi, Yolmer, etc) No doubt about it. I feel Rick's demeanor and attitude is the biggest change for the team. IMHO, they carry those things onto the field and that's a good thing. I think Ricky does a hell of a job relating to the young players and it's easy to see they respect him and believe in him as a manager.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 7, 2018 -> 11:15 AM) I like him but as southsider said, I think a lot of it is also Renteria. Additionally, I'm not gonna give either of them credit for Davidson or Engel, as I still don't think either of them are/will be MLB hitters. But we'll see, I hope they prove me wrong. Yep. Engel hasn't proven anything yet and Paulie should get credit for the change in Davidson's swing. I'd wait and see with Steverson.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 7, 2018 -> 11:12 AM) I think the change is Ricky Renteria, and not Steverson. Agreed. Nothing against Steverson but Ricky has been huge for the team.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 7, 2018 -> 11:11 AM) QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 7, 2018 -> 11:16 AM) I can't hit well in the cold, so he definitely meant me. But the joke's on him, because I can't hit well in any weather anymore! Welcome to the club.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 7, 2018 -> 10:57 AM) It still is a problem for Jose Abreu. The ball player or board member? I kid I kid.

Should the Sox attempt to extend some of their talent?

QUOTE (Richie @ Apr 7, 2018 -> 06:18 AM) I try not to. However, it's hard not to make the Konerko comparison with that new/shortened swing of his, isn't it? They even look a bit similar. Somewhat similar demeanor and mannerisms as well. I agree that it's impossible not to put him in the "long-term" conversation at this point. Could be short-lived... but we'll see. I've gotten my hopes up a bit as well. Before the board went down for maintenance I said somewhere in a thread that I have zero confidence in Davidson. But after hearing about how he worked with Paulie and seeing that similar short compact swing, I've changed my tune and am willing to see how the 2018 plays out for Davidson. -
QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Apr 7, 2018 -> 07:47 AM) You're fooling yourself if each and everyone one of us isn't at least a little concerned over Moncada.. Looking at the comments in this thread you're fooling yourself if you think each and every one of us is a little concerned. I am genuinely not in the least bit concerned.

Should the Sox attempt to extend some of their talent?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 6, 2018 -> 07:45 PM) Last offseason at the start of December I was saying either extend them now or trade them. After watching how last offseason played out, I'm not so sure any more, that call may have been wrong and I think 2k5 may have a point in this thread Yeah they could continue putting up strong seasons, but decent seasons could still leave them hanging out at the end of the FA market after 3 or 4 other guys take the remaining money. Goldschmidt is a FA the same year as Abreu, so is Smoak, so he might well be the 3rd 3b on the market and the oldest of them. Other teams might blow their money on that lefty starter at the front of Boston's rotation. If he stays healthy, the best OF on the market could be Adam Eaton. And if a team like the Yankees or Dodgers decides to keep their powder dry in 2020...in 2021 this dude named Mike Trout becomes a free agent, and he won't turn 29 until the middle of the next season, so good lord imagine that contract. There's a nonzero chance that where this market is going, these guys deals wind up unusually depressed compared to what it would take to extend them right now. I have a few things on my mind as to where I'm coming from. 1) let's see how Avi performs this season. Would like to see if he can duplicate or even surpass his 2017 numbers. 2) it appears as though Davidson could potentially be a long term solution at 1B or DH. Like Avi, would like to see If he continues his progression . If so then he'll be around for the next contender. I've completely done a 180 on Davidson after seeing his short compact Konerko like swing and so far seems to show a better batting eye. 3) I'd like to see how Collins and Zavala progress this year as well. One of them could stick at catcher and the other end up a 1B/DH to pair with Davidson for those two spots. With Collins batting eye, if he has fixed the hitch in his swing he has monster middle of the order potential, and from the left side too. 4) would like to see how some of the Sox young minor league OF talent does this year. Eloy is going to be penciled in at some point, likely left field. If Robert stays healthy he has potential to be a fast mover according to baseball folks. Then there's potential for Adolfo to come into the fold next year if he has the big year I suspect he'll have. He's off to a great start so far. By no means am I counting on all this to happen but willing to wait and see how the 2018 season plays out. -
TMZ's server must be down, again.

BlackSox13 replied to wrathofhahn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I wouldn't extend Abreu or Avi until seasons end. -
Saladino has speed, covers three IF positions and has had back issues so a backup role is prefect for him. I don't see a problem with that.
-
No problems with the infield as is and in fact like it alot. The outfield will sort itself out during the season but changes are coming. The current left fielders are merely occupying the space until Eloy is ready to come up and then it's his spot. Which brings me to CF. I know it's early and the weather has sucked but I remain skeptical of Engel's bat and think he's on borrowed time. If Engel doesn't show anything with the bat I think we see Engel and Cordell switch places in June if not before then. I kinda of feel for Delmonico. With Davidson/Abreu taking 1B/DH there's no spot for his bat once Eloy comes up.

Home Opener Game Thread! White Sox vs Tigers

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 6, 2018 -> 10:00 AM) But Matt Davidson is going to hit 108 homers while driving in 203 runs, Tim Anderson is going to hit 81 homers and steal 81 bases, plus Yolmer is going to hit 54 triples and drive in 189 runs, so it is all good. But but but your projections don't suit the pessimistic narrative so these do not apply. -

Moncada has very limited professional baseball experience in comparison to most prospects. He didn't have the luxury of playing three years of college baseball before being drafted and playing in a minor league system for at least a few years before being called up. He's way ahead of the curve despite the results so far. Then there's his tools, oh my! Relax and be patient with the guy. Then again maybe we should just release him as was suggested with Abreu last April. -
The Jason Benetti and Sox Announcing Thread

QUOTE (Wanne @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 08:15 PM) I will say...and don't get me wrong because I love Hawk...but listening to Hawk today made me appreciate Benetti a little more. Hawk's time has passed. I just wish he and Stone would cool the "shtick" a little. When AJ was in the booth all I could think about was how much he'd intimidate Jason lol... I say put Benetti with Chuck interacting with the fans during the broadcast and put AJ in the booth with Stone. I think AJ and Stone would be awesome together. Why not, a former pitcher and former catcher just makes sense. -

QUOTE (onedude @ Apr 6, 2018 -> 12:16 AM) I might put Anderson at leadoff if he continues with the improvements this year. He's got some walks, and seems to be seeing the ball well for hits. Also the speed he is showing is impressive early on. Then throw Sanchez at 2, Avi at 3, Abreu, Davidson, Moncada, the rest... I know it's early and that cold players will heat up and hot players will cool off but I was thinking something similar today. Moncada has power so maybe sandwich him between Abreu and Davidson in the order. Timmy had a rough year last year so I take his stint in the lead-off with a grain of salt and would like to see him and his speed get another shot batting first in the line up. Sanchez's switch hitting, capability of drawing a walk could make for a solid #2 hitter. -

QUOTE (Tony @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 11:21 PM) I agree with a lot of what is said here, but the Yolmer stuff seems off base. Yolmer put together a very nice 2017 campaign and has seemingly continued that into 2018. He is 25, and is incredibly versatile around the diamond defensively. I don’t think the rejoicing around Yolmer is just related to a hot start in 2018 Yep some of us have been following Sanchez for years now. I recall following him when he was 20/21 and playing winter ball. I looked at the roster to check on how he was playing and noticed the name Yolmer and asked myself who the f*** is that? Then I looked at his picture and it was the Carlos Sanchez I was looking for lol. That was the first time I had seen the name Yolmer.Remember the polled thread when we were asked to choose between Sanchez and Micah Johnson? I was team Sanchez all the way. -
