  1. For some reason I was thinking Dunning would start in AA and Stephens in AAA. Oh well, trust the Sox know what they're doing with their pitchers
  2. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 06:53 AM) I’m not sure how anyone thinks Cease could be closer to the major than Dunning. Cease has never thrown 100 innings in a season and has never pitched above low A. He also has huge control problems that need to be ironed out and those will only get more problematic as he faces more advanced pitching. Meanwhile, Dunning made 22 starts in high A and put up 144 innings in his first ful season as a starter. He’ll be up in AA very soon assuming he pitches well to start 2018. And his pitching profile of a groundball pitcher with strong command should allow him to move fast. I really don’t think it’s even close. Cease is a 2020 callup if all goes well and I’m cool with that. Absolutely no reason to rush the kid. Lol, this is literally exactly what I'm thinking. It takes time to build up the innings and Hansen/ Dunning are a year ahead of Cease in that department.
  3. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Mar 28, 2018 -> 11:22 PM) LOL...ties. I took tomorrow off so I'm drinking is my excuse. I think they go 71-91 this year... I could see them with 75 wins, but no way this team can finish .500 with the starting pitching they are rolling out this year to start. This is considering that their pen is better than we first though (I think it will be). If the pen falters, this is a 100 loss team...mind you I only say that because of pitching. The suck won't be here long. Yeah I figured it was just a typo. Dude, my initial response was going to be something to the effect of " are you posting under the influence?" but I didn't want to come across as being a snarky asshole. The starting pitching is my concern as well. Fulmer and Shields leave alot to be desired and Lopez's ST has me concerned although I think he will eventually come around.
  4. Before I have a chance to see other's responses. Surprise will be Sanchez Disappointment will be Davidson Dark horse will be Cordell Not sure how much of a dark horse Cordell is but I just get the feeling he's waiting in the weeds for his chance and when it happens he's going to hit.
  5. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Mar 28, 2018 -> 10:51 PM) 71-75 is my vote only because I think they team will be great in the 2nd half. I think this team will be horrendous to start.... But....Rodon will get healthy, Kopech will be called up, Gio and Lopez will be settled in and who knows/cares who the #5 will be at that point and I think they'll actually be damn good team in the 2nd half. But holy cow man...the rotation as it is now is a dumpster fire. Against real MLB teams it'll be batting practice. Though Gio is the one bright spot. How do you think the Sox will fare in the other 16 games they will play?
  6. When I first read the title of the thread 78 popped in my head so I'll say 78-84.
  7. Chisoxfn, thanks for all you and the administrators have done to get Soxtalk going again as well as future upgrades. Missed this site immensely.
  8. I'll guess ... Moncada 2B Avi RF Abreu 1B Davidson DH Delmonico LF Castillo C Anderson SS Sanchez 3B Engel CF I understand it but still think it kinda sucks there's no room for Cordell at the moment. Glad the season is finally here and looking forward to seeing young players grow as the team gets better. I believe the bad years are behind now and the offense will be a surprise.
  9. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Mar 2, 2018 -> 02:08 AM) I noticed there was a large gap of time tonight where no one had posted anything since like 3:50 PM today. And even when I made this original thread tonight, there were only 7 members online. So I'm wondering if maybe this is affecting a bunch of people. Maybe it's a Comcast thing? I don't have comcast so I doubt it's them.I'm thinking it's something with the board itself. I'm on a few other message boards and have zero issues on them, just this one. Strange.
  10. What do the Sox have to gain from signing Kemp if he's released? s***, I would rather give Davidson the at bats.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 04:14 PM) Great post. I'm assuming Sox aren't pursuing him heavily or we'd have heard more. The Hosmer to SD thing was in the news all the time as it brewed. Moose makes too much sense for Chicago. Damn, if we sign him to a five-year 60 million deal he'll be easily movable if he doesn't suddenly start sucking. I'd even be OK with 5 years, 70 million. Why not? Most of our young guys will be cheap and we can sign some pitchers with the $$$ we save from not inking Machado. Nice post, sir. LMAO. Lillian is a lady.
  12. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Feb 27, 2018 -> 01:35 AM) Yep, exactly. I want the Sox to sign CarGo, but stay away from Moose, for that exact reason. I think the premise behind signing Moustakas would be to secure 3B for the long term future so I can understand the willingness for people to sign him. But for CarGo, really don't see a point. I actually hope the Sox don't sign CarGo.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 09:12 PM) Someone was talking about fans would get really upset if they "wasted" the money on a one year deal...but I said that nobody cared much at all about Holland's $6 million year deal last year, with no return on investment. Holland didn't cost a draft pick and slot money. Two completely different animals.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 07:15 PM) Nobody really cared about Holland. That said, we're talking $12 million vs. $6, and it's decidedly not to protect the young pitching prospects from overexposure. Wait, what? Can you elaborate because I'm not following you here.
  15. QUOTE (Lillian @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 06:43 PM) I don't understand how anyone can argue against this point. 'BlackSox' sounds exactly right. The only way it might make sense for the Sox, would be if they thought that they could flip him to a contender, during the season and get back something better than the 2ND round draft pick, that they will lose. Right and it would be a risky move. I realise the lost pick isn't a guarantee but at this point the Sox have a better idea of what will be available for that pick than what teams will be willing to give up for Moustakas in July. If Moustakas struggles the move fails horribly. Can you imagine the posts on this board if such a move failed? Mercy!!! I'm not really sold on the idea of Moustakas myself, but am open to it under the right conditions. Give me the right money and contract length with no opt-outs and I could get on board. I can certainly see the benefits to signing Moustakas now and not trying to chase the Machado dragon next winter.
  16. What would be the point of signing Moustakas to a one year contract and losing a draft pick and that slot position money? That's a move a contender makes, not a rebuilding team such as the Sox.
  17. Went with Moncada based on his switch hitting and overall potential, speed/defense/power/batting eye.
  18. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 24, 2018 -> 11:36 PM) Skeptical about what? Everything. The rebuild is merely a conspiracy to funnel more money into JR's pockets.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 24, 2018 -> 07:38 PM) Play the kids. .858 OPS in a career year for Morisson. Can you tell me for sure that he can repeat that next year and that neither Delmonico nor Davidson can do that next year for less money with 4-5 more years of control? Because I'd rather see if one of the kids can. No, I can't say that for sure, just like I can't say for sure Delmonico and Davidson have a future with the Sox. I do believe Delmonico has a future with the Sox but have zero confidence in Davidson. I would use Morrison/Abreu at 1B/DH and Delmonico in LF with Leury/Engel platooning CF until July and reassess the situation then.
  20. Kinda on the fence with this. I prefer to keep the DH spot open to rotate outfielders but Morrison is a very interesting idea and a much better idea than CarGo. Morrison could actually net the Sox something of quality at the trade deadline or could even provide a potential long term solution at 1B/DH to pair with Abreu. If the Sox were to sign him, I'd hope it's a one year deal with a second year option. Good idea guys.
  21. So who's going to be the first to have a meltdown?
  22. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Feb 23, 2018 -> 03:22 PM) I wonder why the feed is working for some and not for others? Does it have to do with adblock software maybe? I'm trying to run it on my smart tv and getting the same behavior as my PC. I'm sick of seeing camping world cut into the feed. Must be an add blocker thing. Guess I'll check the box score when the game is over. f*** camping world, BTW.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 23, 2018 -> 11:21 AM) It wouldn't piss me off like Holland did last year. But for it to really work out, some odds would have to be beaten, and if they aren't, you wasted a opportunity looking at others, and they may not get that opportunity again. Same here. It wouldn't piss me off, just wouldn't understand it. The outfield is full and would rather utilize the DH as a revolving door for the outfielders to get them more at bats. Plus, I feel if Gillaspie makes the team out of ST he has a solid chance of becoming the new header for Soxtalk.
  24. Today begins Covey's bid to be the opening day starting pitcher. Good luck buddy! Also, Yolmer>Moncada!
