  1. QUOTE (Soha @ Dec 24, 2017 -> 04:16 PM) For me it's more a question of why his value was ever high in the first place? But regardless, Cole has 2 years of control left and has shown be can be a TOR starter. I think his value is massive to a contending team. I think it's Frazier's lofty ceiling that had him ranked so high. The talent is there and he's young. Cole's stats weren't very impressive last year in the NL with almost half the teams rebuilding. How well do Cole's numbers translate to the AL and in the ALE division? I wouldn't be willing to pay too high of a price for Cole.
  2. Offer Fugo Chavez's package for Mike Trout.
  3. QUOTE (ron883 @ Dec 24, 2017 -> 02:56 PM) Sox aren't getting Torres for Abreu, Adams, and chance the rapper imo. Even with ellsbury contract. Nope. And people need to remember Ellsbury has a full NTC so unless we can find some other worldly reason for why he would OK a trade to Chicago, it's probably safe to say he won't be wearing a Sox uni anytime soon.. An Ellsbury trade scenario that might work would be Ellsbury +10M to SF with Samardzija going to the Yanks.
  4. QUOTE (Soha @ Dec 24, 2017 -> 12:07 PM) Torres is overpayment....Frazier is underpayment. All I'm saying is I understand (and agree) if Pittsburgh says nah to Clint Frazier. I just don't see how Frazier's value dropped so much that he's not a headliner for Cole. What are the reasons for Frazier's drop in value because I'm not seeing it?
  5. QUOTE (Soha @ Dec 24, 2017 -> 09:05 AM) Well I certainly don't blame Pittsburgh for wanting a better headliner than Clint Frazier. Frazier is a good headliner for a pitcher such as Cole. Sale netted the #1 overall prospect for a headliner, do you really think Cole should net the #2 overall prospect? I don't. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Dec 24, 2017 -> 11:01 AM) I read somewhere that the TB Rays owner will not trade with the Cubs. He is still pretty upset the way Joe Madden up and left for them. I can see a team like St. Louis trading for Archer. Can you imagine? Cub fans would go nuts. In regards to Hahn, I’m happy he is kicking tires on everyone. The market is pretty stagnant, if you can get a really good player for pennies on the dollar— go for it! The goal is still 2020. If he can land younger veterans that fit into that timeline but doesn’t cost premium prospects, it’s a win-win. Oh damn, forgot about the Maddon thing. Good call dude. That would be hilarious if STL traded for Archer. Agree about Hahn. Rebuilds are the perfect time to explore all possibilities and Hahn is doing just that.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 24, 2017 -> 01:15 AM) Might as well link us to Chris Archer, too....why not? Careful. You'll have an angry mob of cubs fans at your doorstep for talking about their pitcher like that.
  7. Supposedly the Yanks insist on a package starting with Clint Frazier and the Pirates want Torres. If that's true Pitt can keep Cole because Pitt's asking price will probably begin with Jimenez from the Sox. Still yet, nothing wrong with kicking the tires.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 21, 2017 -> 12:46 AM) He's not in favor of the tank obviously. I've been preaching this to the choir during the Sox rebuild. It's pretty sad fans have to pay 40 bucks to park a car or whatever it is and 11 bucks for a beer and 18 bucks for a burger, fries and coke and watch a team that's tanking on purpose. Very sad. I wish the fans would boycott during the tank years then come back when the rebuild is complete. It's bogus. Those would be the prices if the Sox adopted your "spend baby, spend" mentality on the free agent market.
  9. I think the Indians signing Alonzo for 2/15 is an absolute steal. He's going to like getting out of the huge west coast parks and into the ALC parks. And there's three rebuilding teams in the ALC so he'll see his fair share of young pitching mistakes that find their way over the heart of the plate for him to pound on. Smart pickup by the Indians.
  10. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 11:07 AM) I know nothing about Arroyo. Must be good. Edit: his stats in the minors don't look all that impressive. Yeah, he's a nice prospect but nothing to write home about. I think the the lack of power is the knock on him. He is a doubles machine so it seems he knows how to hit the gaps and place the ball down the lines. s***, watch TB turn Arroyo into an all star.
  11. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 10:48 AM) Jeff Passan‏Verified account @JeffPassan Following Following @JeffPassan More Source: Christian Arroyo is headed to the Rays in the Evan Longoria deal. Jeff Passan @JeffPassan now Source: Denard Span also is headed to Tampa Bay. Jeff Passan @JeffPassan now Source: Giants get Evan Longoria for Christian Arroyo, Denard Span, Matt Krook and Stephen Woods. Baseball finally had a bowel movement!
  12. Baltimore is just posturing again with the nonsense of they will take Machado off the market. BS. They know they will get less at the deadline and less than that if they have to settle for a comp pick next winter after he signs. Now ( last year would have been optimal )is their best chance of still getting a nice haul for Machado and Baltimore knows it.
  13. Glad to see AZ get into the mix. Hopefully the Sox get pushed aside from what's shaping up to be an interesting bidding war. Need more names to leak to get an idea of how crazy it's getting.
  14. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 18, 2017 -> 02:43 PM) No offense, but this all comes off as a Cubs fanboy circle jerk. What do you mean "if he finds a way to dump those salaries"? Heyward is unmovable at this point, I don't care what kind of magician you think he is. Lester is probably going to be unmovable soon enough, but let's say he isn't, then who replaces him in the rotation exactly? The Cubs have almost no internal pitching talent at the moment. And I'm not sure how you think Theo is going to convince the Ricketts to spend more than they're comfortable with or what their debt load allows. Again, what the Red Sox were able or willing to do has nothing to do with the Cubs. The Ricketts are simply not going to commit to three massive long-term contracts, way too risky for an ownership group that recently had to sell equity in the team to ensure enough on-going cash flow. All good points. We're talking about close to1B in future salary commitments for Heyward, Harper, Machado. Those three players would account for about half of the teams payroll every year. I would expect something like this from Dave Dombrowski, not Theo Epstein.
  15. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 17, 2017 -> 01:50 PM) This is what I would do, provided their offer is the best. Now that I think about it, this could be what Angelos is doing through the media. When Machado trade rumors first surfaced, Baltimore said they would trade within the division for the right return. The Yanks show interest, have a deep farm and now Angelos has a problem trading Machado to them? I'm sure Angelos would rather trade Machado out of the ALE but the media reports are conflicting.
  16. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 17, 2017 -> 01:18 PM) I don’t disagree with your logic, but I just don’t see the Yankees ever being that desperate to land Machado now. Torres is an integral piece to their future given how cheap he’ll be. It is a shot in the dark but it's to see how desperate the Yanks are while they are assembling their 2018 offensive dream team. A more reasonable ask would be discussions beginning with Clint Frazier. I know Baltimore wants pitching but I wouldn't pass at the chance for Frazier +. Make the second piece a pitcher.
  17. QUOTE (wrathofhahn @ Dec 17, 2017 -> 11:58 AM) Yeah, if you take a look at what Liriano went for it was two fringy top 100 guys he was making less and had some upside vs Kemp who has none. So at the very least I'd want two guys just inside or outside the top 100 with upside and looking at the dodgers system there isn't much there. Thier top guys struggled badly. Even Alvarez who I like was pretty bad in 2017 had command issues and 1.6 WHIP. Their bottom 100 guys don't really excite me Lux is interesting but he struggled to hit in A ball. It all depends on how motivated the Dodgers are to move him I wouldn't be surprised to see a team end up with more. Kemp is a toxic asset. The kids were talking about definitely need more time and come with risk being so low in development yet. I Like the names we've discussed and would take the chance in the right deal but I would not bother with Kendall. The dodgers can keep him. Another idea to explore would be a package of Kemp/Pederson.
  18. I think Angelos is passing on a good opportunity to exploit the Yanks. If Angelos expects Machado to sign with the Yanks next year anyway, then why not take advantage of a chance to get something from the Yanks this year? I would tell the Yanks that if they really want Machado, discussions begin with Torres. With so many bidders ( up to ten ) the Orioles are in a great spot to drive the price up on the Yanks to see just how desperate they are for Machado.
  19. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 17, 2017 -> 11:43 AM) About Stanton. The Marlins were in no position to insist on anything. There main goal was dump as much of the salary as possible or pretty much keep Stanton and his salary. They were the beggars in this scenario with only 1 team that could give them a hand out and that was the Yankees. That gives the Yanks the upper hand. The yankees could clearly contend without Stanton but could new Marlin ownership deal with having an unhappy Stanton and his salary ? Desperation means you can't make demands in a trade. Exactly. Jeter's first mistake was announcing to the world that the Marlins wanted to reduce payroll. Then they tried to sell Stanton in a very limited market with teams that had the money and space for such a salary. Then they tried to play hardball with Stanton by trying to force him to agree to SF or STL or remain a Marlin, to which he obviously called their bluff. That left the Marlins in a position to take whatever offer the Yanks presented or sit on it until July 2018. Look at the Ozuna trade. There's a few nice prospects ( Sierra/Alcantara) in that trade but Ozuna couldn't net just 1 top 100 prospect? Maybe Jeter was looking for quantity in that deal? Not impressed with Jeter so far.
  20. QUOTE (wrathofhahn @ Dec 17, 2017 -> 10:58 AM) Need more then that for 42 million. He's essentially worth at most 1 year 5 million ish. That means you are talking a top 40 prospect or two top 100 prospects you like. I'd say you're pretty close on this. Luis Robert got a 26M signing bonus and is currently ranked #23 on mlbs pipeline. Kemp should be worth about half of his remaining 42M. So we would be looking for a prospect who's value is around 20M, give or take. Probably won't get Verdugo ( ranked #24 ) but maybe Kemp + one of Alvarez/Kendall/Diaz gets it done. I like the idea of Lux. Add Caleb Ferguson to Lux and Kemp, and I'm in.
  21. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 16, 2017 -> 11:45 PM) The Dodgers wouldn't give you prospects to take Kemp. They don't care about paying his salary, they just cared about the AAV getting them under the CB tax. I think the incentive for the Dodgers would be going shopping on the FA market next winter without Kemp's salary on the books. They know they need to retain Kershaw and they are rumored to be going after Harper so getting under the threshold this year allows them to spend stupidly next year. Slick deal for both teams, IMHO.
  22. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 16, 2017 -> 10:03 PM) Dodgers willing to trade prospect(s) to unload 2 years of Kemp. Depending on who they would offer, I'd want the Sox to look into this. Sox are in a perfect position to do this. It's not like two years of Kemp's salary will inhibit the team in any way.
  23. Preston Tucker was DFA'd yesterday. Wonder what Houston is looking for in return.
  24. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 02:05 PM) This deal really helps the market for other sluggers at the $20 million per valuation. Hosmer now absolutely will be looking for $150+ million. This can only help Abreu's trade market.
