  1. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 02:17 PM) 100% this. No one here is saying it’s a slam dunk, it definitely wouldn’t be. It’s about improving their odds. Depending on the prospects offered, it could be a risky move. But, getting Machado now helps to build bonds with future core players like Moncada, TA, Giolito, Lopez to help try and lure Machado back in free agency, or sign an extension. Another aspect that might help is to have Machado on the team when Eloy gets called up and begins mashing on the south side. Same with Kopech eventually joining the Sox rotation. Getting Machado now would allow the Sox an opportunity to show Machado first hand all the exciting things to come. It's a season long sales pitch to entice Machado to stick around an additional ten years beyond 2018. Would love to know exactly what the Sox offered Baltimore.
  2. Bring back Holland and Pelfrey. We can piggy back them together in starts until young pitching is ready to come up. When that happens, the Sox release Shields/Holland/Pelfrey so they can move to Kansas to live in Gregg's basement. So, Uh, yeah, I'm like down with adding another starting pitcher, and s***.
  3. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 12:40 PM) Glad a team that could be interested in Abreu didn't sign him (Red Sox, Cardinals, Rockies, other?). Hopefully Hosmer signs with the Padres as rumored. Thinking the same thing with SD and Hosmer. This is a nice little deal for the Phillies. 3 years to a 31 year old with Santana's numbers is very reasonable.
  4. QUOTE (Quin @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 01:19 PM) Avi + Adams + Puckett Yes/No? Yes. But is Adams close enough to the bigs for Baltimore's taste? I wouldn't have a problem with substituting Fulmer for Adams. Weren't they rumored to be looking for two starting pitchers that were close to mlb ready? Just offer them Fulmer/Covey and we can all move on with our lives.
  5. Sounds like a lot of posturing going on in the media with Baltimore insisting Kopech be in the deal we le Sox sources saying its not true. At first, Baltimore said they would be willing to trade Machado within their division and now they are spooked that somehow Machado finds his way to the Yankees. Which is it? I think Baltimore is unhappy with the offers and is using the Yanks as an excuse to drive up the price. Lots of posturing.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 05:01 PM) To be fair I said between 300 and 500 million. Certainly the Yanks, Dodgers, Red Sox, Angels, Cubs will be willing to outbid each other and give him a huge deal. We're not going to outbid the big boys. Ironically, every team you list not named White Sox is pushing close to the payroll tax threshold which will limit their flexibility to fit Machado's new salary into their future team payrolls. Meanwhile, the White Sox are way way under the luxury tax threshold and have plenty of space to work with.
  7. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 08:11 AM) If they do pull of this move, I think I still shop Abreu and Garcia. After Machado has been extended.
  8. What scares me about this rumor is that Nightingale is talking about it quite a bit.
  9. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 06:24 AM) If we trade for Machado I think it would be crazy to trade Abreu. I was thinking Machado/Abreu to STL, TA + pitching prospect to Baltimore, f*** load of prospects coming back to Chicago. All this would be done with the sole purpose of pissing off the Gregg.
  10. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 06:11 AM) I take this as a good sign that these guys aren’t in the trade. Still don’t see how we have a “leading offer”’without one of Kopech, Giolito, Lopez, Rodon, or Hansen in the mix. So question for Soxtalk, who would you rather give up as the centerpiece in a trade for Machado: Rodon, Lopez, or Hansen? The way Baltimore is with medicals, I doubt Rodon is in the mix. It's possible Baltimore asked for Kopech as a headliner and the Sox countered with Giolito. If I must choose a centerpiece for Baltimore to receive, let it be Rodon. His shoulder scares me so if Baltimore was willing to take him as a centerpiece, I'd be good with that.
  11. STL is getting after it this winter, are willing to trade from a deep farm and are linked to both Machado and Abreu. Let's have a threesome!
  12. Not sure what to believe at this point but things just got interesting really quick. I know I wouldn't give up Giolito or Kopech for Machado so I hope those rumors are bs.
  13. According to Levine, the market for Avi is heating up.
  14. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 03:00 PM) And have made an offer to the Reds for Hamilton apparently. They could potentially pull off a deal for Hamilton and sign Cain for RF and greatly improve the defense in the outfield. That would be a very smart plan. All of the NLW ballparks are huge so defense goes a long way.
  15. Aren't the Giants linked to Cain and Bruce as well as McCutchen? I kinda doubt they would be interested in Avi.
  16. After Piscotty goes to the A's, there's still Yelich, McCutchen and the free agent outfielders available.
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 01:36 PM) I'm gathering that Avisail has no market. Surprised?
  18. Cubs and Indians have talked about Salazar. Indians looking for a LHB. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/12/cubs...azar-trade.html Could Theo be considering trading his all star kick ball champion, Kyle Schwarber? Lol, cubs interested in another pitcher with an injury history.
  19. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 05:19 AM) Alright man time to get off the carousel. I got dibs on your periwinkle blue unicorn!
  20. Yeah, forget Ellsbury. He's not going anywhere. Gardner is the Yankee to focus on. If the Sox were willing to take on Gardner and his salary, it would alleviate the need for the Yanks to rotate their outfielders through the DH spot and would leave a hole there.. Expand the trade to Yolmer/Abreu (Yanks new DH) for Gardner/Frazier/Sheffield/McKinney. If that's not enough, tell Cashman that Dombrowski is on the other line offering Benintendi.
  21. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 5, 2017 -> 09:15 AM) Fixed Crockett & Tubbs
  22. Cardinals are looking like early birds for Ozuna.
  23. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 02:21 AM) Someone at work asked me if I would take Rafael Devers for Abreu straight up. I thought it was an interesting question. I would. Doubt Boston would.
