QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 26, 2017 -> 11:32 PM) Some fans don't like those of us who want to whine now. They'd rather we just go away for a few decades so there will be no whining regarding the rebuild. Prospects, baby. Acquire as many as you can, because it makes too much sense. Wait til next year to see how they progress. Some of us think the Royals fan (gregg) should get a decent product for the excessive costs to see a game in Kansas. Pretty soon it's gonna be 15 space-bucks for a beer. That'll be the most 2 years from now. How much will Winnebago parking be in 2 years? 50 space-bucks a game? Give me PreparationH! -

QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 26, 2017 -> 10:17 PM) I still don't see him stating anywhere that he requires 600 guaranteed at-bats... in fact, all I have seen is him stating the opposite: https://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/yan...tani-1.14928323 Only thing I've seen is that he wants to be a two-way player. Don't where 600 came from ( someone's arse). -

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 26, 2017 -> 09:22 PM) For regular DH at bats. Right now it's Judge in RF and Hicks in CF. Between LF and DH they have Gardner, Ellsbury and Frazier. I agree they should trade one or two players but that won't deter the Yanks from going after Ohtani first. They are speculated to be shopping Castro, Headley, Gardner and willing to listen on Clint Frazier. Ellsbury ain't going anywhere though, they are stuck like pigs on that contract. -
QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 26, 2017 -> 02:15 PM) The point of this thread was to provide an opportunity for people to express some creativity with a baseball related offseason activity... not incessantly regurgitate proverbial brilliant nuggets of The Greg. Smoochie smoochie Sign says ' danger: rabbit hole ahead'.

QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Nov 26, 2017 -> 03:15 PM) Good point this is what I was saying in the Avi thread as well. This way we don’t cripple the rebuild before it gets off the ground with a big mistake. Exactly and if they spend huge on free agents now, then where does the money come from to extend core players later? Fans are going to need patience during this rebuild. QUOTE (Tony @ Nov 26, 2017 -> 04:42 PM) Alright, cool. See you in 2020 then. You'll be missed. We should light some candles to burn so that fans can find their way back in 2020. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 26, 2017 -> 04:44 PM) Did you not know the Sox are rebuilding? That's just an old wives tale. Rebuilds don't really exist. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Nov 26, 2017 -> 06:03 PM) JR will be 84 that year. He may be following the team from the community room of Shady Acres Home for Franchise Owners in AZ. It's comforting to know that you'll be there to show him around. -

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 26, 2017 -> 02:42 PM) If he does, that's something the White Sox can offer that a contender can't. I don't know about that. The Red Sox and Yankees could use another starting pitcher and more production from their DH spot in the lineup. -
Dear Ohtani, Please sign with any team not named the cubs, Yankees, red Sox, dodgers, Astros, Indians, royals, twins or tigers. Thanks, dude.

QUOTE (WBWSF @ Nov 26, 2017 -> 08:49 AM) Trading Garcia and Abreu would seem to indicate that the team has no intentions of competing for anything the next few years. Instead we'll have lousy teams with low payrolls and mucho profits for JR and his investors. Then in another 4 years the team will start another 5 year rebuild. Always remember what Bill Veeck said, "5 year plans usually lead to a new 5 year plan". They already think this now. Hahn has said they expect 2020 to be the year they start contending again. Rebuilding teams and low payrolls goes hand in hand. Have to play the kids to see who sticks before you know where the holes are to plug through free agency. The JR is cheap narrative no longer applies. Not after the 81 year old owner of a rebuilding team spent $52M on a 19 year old prospect. Doesn't sound very cheap to me. I do agree with what Veeck said. 'Rebuilding' and 'retooling on the fly' for the last ten years has not worked. -

QUOTE (GermanSock @ Nov 24, 2017 -> 05:22 AM) Mark Appel, former first Overall pick has been DFAed by the phillies. he was absolutely terrible the last years but I think he still has a good arm. maybe the sox should pick him up for nothing and see if their pitching coaches can at least make a reliever out of him. This is a good idea. When I think of Appel, Archie Bradley comes to mind. Maybe Appel, like Bradley, would thrive in the pen. Worth a shot IMHO.

QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Nov 24, 2017 -> 12:47 AM) Yeah, and I think a lot of Cardinals fans like Abreu. Two of the fan proposals I've seen that people thought was fair are Abreu for Carson Kelly & Jack Flaherty and Abreu for Carson Kelly, Magneuris Sierra, Jordan Hicks. Both of those seem pretty good, but I don't how much we value his leadership/mentorship Those really are reasonable offers. If I had my choice it would be Kelly/Flaherty for Abreu. Wonder what Cardinal fans are willing to give up for Avi. -

Boston and STL make the most sense. STL has plenty of interesting prospects to offer. Sierra and Bader got some time on the big league club last season and O'Neill is about MLB ready, plus they have young pitching to offer. s***, STL has more than enough to trade for Abreu and Avi. -
QUOTE (ChiSox1917 @ Nov 23, 2017 -> 12:51 PM) Moncada and his twinkie habit is not someone I'd want Maitan to be getting conditioning tips from I didn't say anything about diet, I specified training. I wouldn't recommend the Twinkies diet personally. Unless your name is Tallahassee.
-
QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 23, 2017 -> 11:47 AM) That's correct. They can also use next year's bonus pool to do it. Thank you sir, good to know. Despite the concerns over his conditioning, I'd still like to see Maitan in the Sox farm system. Maybe get Maitan to hang out with Moncada and Kopech during the off season to learn a few things about training.
-
Maybe the knocks on Maitan's conditioning drop his price to something in the White Sox range. Am I right in thinking the Sox could go as high as 500K on the ex-Braves prospects?

QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 09:57 PM) Yea, that sure seemed implied but some posters on this board like to point out "fault" in any opportunity. Hell, I'm sure I do it a lot as well... and in one indirect way, I'm even doing it right now. s***, you do it all the time, all day all night, 24/7 just the old days of MTV when they played music videos. Oh look, a baseball nugget ( non-poop form). https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/mari...-relievers.html " the Seattle experience ": large Japanese community, rain, Jimi Hendrix, rain, plenty of fresh fish markets, rain, grunge music, rain, Sir Mix-a-Lot and more rain. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 06:47 PM) Well no, not exactly. They would have had two years worth of signings under the new system which is going to allow for the players to be more spread out amongst the teams by not allowing teams to blow away the caps. Should have worded that better. If the Sox passed on Robert to make a run at Ohtani and fail to sign him, they miss out on both players. The Sox had a much better chance of signing Robert than Ohtani. -
QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 06:49 PM) Scary to think about. Pujols was 32 when he signed that deal. Machado is going to be only 25... Even scarier is that Machado will be 26 when he becomes a FA, same age as Stanton when Stanton signed a 13 year contract worth 325M. That contract will be the starting point for Machado and it's already being speculated Machado could end up closer to 400M. If that's the case, I'm not in the least bit interested in Machado.

QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 06:26 PM) You make it sound like he has a couple of destinations in mind, and Sox is one of them. If he really gave off any hints that he's interested in our current situation, RH and KW will be all over him and you'd see more stories of us connected to Otani. Instead, we did not even attend his workout and just traded more pool money to the team that might have the best shot of landing him. What does this tell you from the Sox perspective? Also, keep in mind that he's speaking through a translator, what you read may not be exactly what he meant, especially fluff pieces like not wanting to play for a powerhouse franchise and instead wanting to be part of a rebuilding process. Good post man, really good post. Just look at the Luis Robert threads before the Sox signed him. Many of us knew back then that if the Sox signed Robert, it would put the Sox out-of the running for Ohtani. If the Sox passed on Robert to go after Ohtani and failed to land Ohtani, the Sox end up with nothing. So the Sox chose to go after Robert and used a video with appearance's from Abreu and Moncada to entice him to sign with the Sox. It worked and was the wise thing to do. The Sox have much more history with Latin American players than they do with Japanese players so Robert was the logical choice. It really was a no-brainer. -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 05:38 PM) And that’s fine by me. Would rather have him end up in Seattle than with the Yankees or Dodgers or god forbid the Cubs. That's how I feel about it too. I'm pulling for Seattle to sign Ohtani. -

The Mariners are on the west coast, have traded for additional bonus pool $, have made an early offer to bring Iwakuma back to Seattle and are suspected to be interested in reuniting with Ichiro. Things could be lining up for Seattle.
