QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 12, 2017 -> 12:37 AM) Yet some of the guys that you guys want us to sign will be just as old as Abreu. I just wonder why I've got to be the guy who is always defending our players. Nobody else as far as I can read here is as mad/passionate at me in defending players. Who else out there is incensed at the idea of not having Abreu around for our WS contending years? Let me know. Show me where I have advocated signing position players as old as Abreu. I'll save you the trouble, that post does not exist. The two players I've said the Sox could look into signing are Manny Machado or Bryce Harper next winter,. Both of whom will be just 26 years old and fit much better into the contention window that's expected to begin in 2020 when those players will be just 28 and Abreu 33. You do understand simple mathematics, don't you? Again, you ignore the facts and spitball your usual bulls***.

Shohei Otani is likely coming to the USA

QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Nov 11, 2017 -> 03:24 PM) He really has National League written all over him. He's be a good fit there too. Makes sense, but they seem to be connected to everyone nowadays. I think it's the opposite. The DH in the AL would give his arm the rest it needs inbetween starts. -

Sounds like the cubs are going to take a shot at Ohtani. http://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/cubs/how-...ttack-offseason -
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/gian...s-saturday.html Sounds as though DD is pushing hard for Stanton.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 11, 2017 -> 02:11 PM) I know. Better to have the logical reasoning out in the open instead of leaving it in my head. I hear ya, and agree. But for some, logic is ignored when it doesn't suit their narrative.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 11, 2017 -> 01:09 PM) It's not about his not spending, it's that is not the right fit and this is an albatross of a contract. I'm not going to say it wouldn't be cool to see Giancarlo Stanton in a Sox uniform, because it would, but there is such little in the way of reward with so much more risk. It's not worth it. The Sox payroll was up around $150-170 million like 3 years ago, or did you forget about that? The Sox are young and the team isn't that good, this is not the time to spend. You took the click bait wite.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 10, 2017 -> 04:19 PM) Dude no one is saying trade him for those reasons you list above. Gregg likes to ignore the facts to make s*** up as he goes along to support his whiny narrative. Hahn and the front office think the Sox next window won't begin until 2020. That puts Abreu beyond his current contract and at age 33. Abreu could be a player that ages well, then again he may not. Honestly, I think it would be better for the Sox and Abreu to trade him to a contender now. Sox get a few more prospects and Abreu gets a shot at playing post season baseball in 2018/19.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 10, 2017 -> 12:59 AM) Just saw this short video of him recorded during a game in booth right after the trade: http://mlb.mlb.com/r/video?content_id=1814979783 The kid reminds me of a zen master monk... like a young, hip, athletic Thich Nhat Hahn. That instantly makes him shoot up my favorite player rankings. ?????? Watched that clip earlier today as well while perusing the Sox site. Kid has a really good head on his shoulders. Thich Nhat Hahn

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 9, 2017 -> 06:51 PM) Very good place to start - like him a lot. 4 years of control. Bradley Jr was the other piece - good player, but 3 years. Definitely interested in Rodriguez but would want more than Shaw as a secondary piece. Rodriguez and Chavis would get my attention though.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 9, 2017 -> 01:16 PM) I thought he had 4. I was mistaken. It does look like he may be the odd man out in Boston and the White Sox really, really wanted him a while back. The extra year and defense, I might still do it if I were Hahn. He could be flipped eventually or be part of the team when they are really humming. Might need DD to throw in a lottery pick though. https://bosoxinjection.com/2017/10/15/poten...get-jose-abreu/ Eduardo Rodriguez is an interesting place to start trade talks.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 9, 2017 -> 01:04 PM) Jose Abreu straight up for Jackie Bradley Jr. Who says no? I think the White Sox say no since they are looking to trade for prospects. Interesting proposal though.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 9, 2017 -> 12:24 PM) Well, not as a suitor... I was going to mention this in the ' your off-season plan' thread. Good catch.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 9, 2017 -> 12:19 PM) White Sox not even mentioned... no big surprise there. Yeah, no kidding. After reading that it's hard to imagine the Marlins trading Stanton without eating a significant amount of money. How significant I do not know.

Anyone care to guess what GM is crazy enough to pay that price for Martinez? -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 8, 2017 -> 02:17 PM) Jose Abreu finished with the 6th highest WAR among 1B at 4.1. I would count on him being a 3 WAR player moving forward, but he is an above average first basemen. That does not mean he necessarily has a ton of value, but the dude is still a great hitter. Using Boston as an example for a trade partner. What would be a realistic asking price for Abreu? Just trying to get an idea since its possible the Sox do trade Abreu this winter.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Nov 8, 2017 -> 02:29 PM) This board is comprised of fans that follow the sport much closer than a casual fan. Soxtalk represents the opinions of pretty knowledgeable fans from what I have seen, which is why it's so interesting. Yep, agree 100%. It's why I do all my White Sox talking on this board and not the other board. Best place to talk and learn about White Sox baseball.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 8, 2017 -> 02:26 PM) This board understands baseball better than the average fan. The average fan will say "oh, so they're just gonna trade every good player we have." I'm with Tony on this one. Some fans have already been saying that anyway, f*** em. Those are likely the same fans that booed Avi at Sox fest 2016. I think the majority of the Sox fan base will understand if Avi and Abreu are traded. And like we've seen with a few of the trades already, some will like the return and some will not.

Lopez/Giolito could throw 200 IP next season
BlackSox13 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Tony @ Nov 8, 2017 -> 12:38 PM) I love that they are getting them ready for it, but as was noted in this thread, only pitchers went above 200 IP last year. I expect that number to slowly shrink the next few years as well. With all that said, if they get to 200, that’s fantastic. I believe part of the thinking is getting these pitchers to pitch to contact for quicker outs. Lowering the pitches per at bat will allow them to pitch longer in each game. 200IP is a target to shoot for but that's about it. -
Forget Granderson. There's no room in the outfield and there are plenty of DH's between the Sox and Charlotte.

BlackSox13 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If we're expecting to contend as early as 2019 the pitchers must be able to exceed 200 innings. So 200 in 2018 doesn't sound like too much of a stretch. -
QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 7, 2017 -> 09:59 PM) I have my doubts that Chavis or Groome would make a Top 50 at the moment, especially Groome after the season he had. Also, Abreu has had no seasons with a wRC+ below 120 and 1 season with a wRC+ below 130. The Red Sox are looking for a bat. They're not going to find many better than Abreu. If they're not sending Groome++ (with preferably one of the +s being better than Chavis), I'd rather keep Abreu. My bad on Chavis, thought he was a top 50. Chavis had a good year for power while moving up a level so I'm thinking his ranking will move up in the top 100 and possibly pass Groome. Still think Chavis and Groome is a bit much but if Boston was willing to offer them both, I wouldn't object. Dombrowski is Boston's GM so ya never know, lol.
