  1. Just my opinion but if I were the cubs I'd used Schwarber to try a nab a younger pitcher with team control and keep Happ. Then do the Heyward for Samardzija swap if SF is truly interested in Heyward. That said, I hope the cubs do neither of those.
  2. QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 1, 2017 -> 11:45 PM) Now that was the type of game that is boring as all hell. Agreed. The LA offense failed big time with so many LOB's. Houston set the tone right away and LA just couldn't take advantage of their opportunities.
  3. Anyone know why Jimenez was pinch run for in the first inning?
  4. It's been a fun series to watch. Sad that baseball is over now though. Luckily there should be plenty of trade speculation to follow until the prep and college seasons begin. The winter meetings cannot begin soon enough.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 1, 2017 -> 10:42 PM) During the NLCS, I thought having Darvish would be the difference in winning the World Series. Didn't realize it would be for the Astros, not the Dodgers. Ha, same here. This isn't just on Darvish though, look at the total the amount of base runners stranded by the Dodgers tonight. It's fugly.
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 1, 2017 -> 09:18 PM) I'm not sure I understand. Ultimately, in today's current thinking, a player's value in generally attributed to the surplus value he creates beyond what he is being paid. Stanton's trade value has little to do with his on-field performance, and everything to do with his lack of surplus value, due to the massive obligations owed to him as a result of his contract. If we are to presume that Stanton will indeed opt-out, I think that presumption must assume that he has indeed performed very well in the years leading up to his opt-out provision. Secondly, if it is true that Machado/Harper/Arenado will indeed reset the market, than it is probably fair to assume that Stanton, should he continue to perform well, is not as large a liability as was once presumed. This all comes down to the asking price; if the market values Stanton enough to bring back significant assets to the Marlins, than it would appear that some teams are willing to risk that Stanton will underperform, however, that there is a reasonable likelihood that his contract will not seem as onerous as it might today. If the return, on the other hand, only brings back salary relief, than teams apparently believe he is fully compensated. In regards to the trading versus FA acquisition, I am not sure I agree. While a trade usually requires relinquishing some of your own assets (other than money), there is a certainty in regards to the player's contract that simply does not exist via FA. Stanton's surplus value is a direct result of his on-field performance. Look at Jason Heyward, it's doubtful the cubs could give that contract away which is why the cubs are rumored to be looking to trade Heyward's bad contract for another in Samardzija. Heyward's value is under water where Stanton's is above water. It's all due to their on-field performance.
  7. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Nov 1, 2017 -> 09:24 PM) Well, regardless, grab the drink of your choice and cheers to the last day of the Cubs being reigning World Series champions Good way of looking at it.
  8. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Nov 1, 2017 -> 08:27 PM) Why does it seem like everybody here is pro-Dodgers? Why would you ever pull for the Dodgers? They're basically the California Cubs. Because this is 'Merica where we are free to cheer for whomever we like. Go Dodgers.
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 1, 2017 -> 08:25 PM) Your last statement is interesting. It isn't that he isn't worth so little...it's the fact that he is already incredibly well-compensated. I don't think this deal is as bad as many others. Yes, there is risk involved, but I suspect that some deals that happen over the course of the next several years will make this look more attractive moving forward. If the speculation is correct on what the Marlins might get in return for Stanton, he's worth very little compared to the player that he is. That contract is horrible in that it heavily favors Stanton in every aspect with nothing but risk for the team that takes it on. The opt-out is scarier than people think. By the time Stanton becomes eligible to opt-out, Machado/Harper/Arenado will have reset the market with their mega deals. If Stanton continues slugging over the next three seasons, he will not only opt-out, but will get a huge raise thanks to those three players. Don't remember who said it yesterday, but a poster said something along the lines of that it's better to pay for a big contract on the FA market than take on Stanton's contract and I agree.
  10. QUOTE (oldsox @ Nov 1, 2017 -> 06:24 AM) Who was the Miami GM who negotiated that deal? Dan Jennings. Surprisingly he's no longer with them. Loria gets most of the blame IMHO, since he was the one that had to sign off on that deal and was likely pushing Jennings to to get something worked out long term with Stanton and his agent. It's truly amazing how such a good player in his prime can be worth so little.
  11. Well, s***... Better hope for one of those 12-11 games. Bring on the off season trade rumors and winter meetings.
  12. QUOTE (Quin @ Nov 1, 2017 -> 08:07 PM) He's a spy from the Cubs planted in 2000, knowing they'd need someone to help tear down the World Champion White Sox and trade an ace to a decade after that to bolster their own odds! IT'S SO SIMPLE. Oh, is that the poster that's been bashing on Hahn for growing up on the north side as a cub fan and so on? Forgot who that was.
  13. Great, another inconsistent strike zone from the ump.
  14. Any predictions on tonight's last game? Dodgers win it all and Joc gets the MPV.
  15. If the cubs actually hired Ozzie to be their bench coach, I would cry... from laughing so hard. Maddon is relatively soft spoken with a humble demeanor, the opposite of Ozzie. Don't see those two being a good match in the dugout, at all.
  16. Very nice. Watch Darvish throw a gem tomorrow.
  17. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 31, 2017 -> 10:05 PM) K With all due respect that is a pipedream https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.businessin...l-slash-2017-10 That contract is not worth numerous top prospects. Think about it this way. Let's say the Marlins wanted to boost the prospect return by trading Stanton + half the cost of the contract, say roughly 150M. That means the Marlins are paying 150M for those prospects and we all know how risky prospects are and how they bust. That is not how the Marlins operate and why they would rather take less in terms of prospects to unload that horrible contract.
  18. Come on Dodgers, a win tonight gives Darvish a chance to redeem himself for game 7.
  19. I think Abreu is worth more to the Sox than what another team is willing to pay so I doubt he's going anywhere. Curious as to how many teams are looking for a corner outfielder in regards to Avi. Not going to count on there being alot of teams interested in Avi and think he's with the Sox at least until July. The most action we'll likely see is the Sox signing a few Swarzak type relievers. 2018 is about continuing the development of players/pitchers to get a better idea of where the team stands going into the 2018/19 winter when much better free agents are available.
  20. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 31, 2017 -> 05:07 PM) In order for us to trade for Stanton would require us to part with several of the top notch prospects we have recently been acquiring According to recent rumors that's not at all true. The Marlins are more focused on getting rid of Stanton's salary instead of eating money to boost the prospect return.
  21. My desire for Gordon has passed. Wanted him before the Dodgers traded him but now, no thanks. His entire game is based off his speed and I question how good that speed will be by the time the Sox are a contender again.
  22. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 31, 2017 -> 11:20 AM) I saw it too. It's not surprising. Par for the course. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 31, 2017 -> 11:34 AM) When I went back and actually read his posts, no you're not the only one who sees it I actually subjected myself to reading those posts twice to make sure I was actually reading what I thought I had read.
  23. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/10/marl...rdon-prado.html Nothing really new, more of a confirmation to what many have already suspected. Prado is going to be very difficult to move.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 29, 2017 -> 07:34 PM) It's the offseason and people are not posting much which means they'll still get mad at me for bringing this up ... but I've been reading a lot of Ozzie speculation stories -- to the Yankees or Tigers, which are just reporters dreaming to get great-copy Ozzie on board. But it made me think. The guy is still young and has a WS ring and speaks Spanish. This guy, who assuredly has matured, would be perfect for our rebuilt team. Get him to sign a waiver saying a committee of three (Jerry, KW and Hahn) will have the right to fine him $100,000 for any controversial statements on Twitter or on radio or TV that they deem harmful. A second violation would be immediate dismissal. And he's also fined $100,000 if he ever makes the statement, "I'd tell you what I really think but I could get fined $100,000 if I do so." The only risk is that Ozzie will open his mouth in negative ways again. How many times did he truly get in trouble opening his mouth in his Chicago years? Not that many. Miami was the bad one. I know he's probably blackballed by all owners and will never work in baseball again, but the White Sox are a different organization. Allegedly so loyal. If Renteria doesn't work out, why not forgive and bring Ozzie back? Before you freak out and say I'm trolling or whtaever, remember Ozzie HAS BEEN in the news this week. Some stories have been written saying Detroit and NYY should hire him. Stephen A Smith called for Ozzie. It's not like I'm trying to cause trouble. Yes I worship Ozzie Guillen if that's the right word. Yes I want him back. And some of these articles give me a smidge of hope. So in your minds ... would you accept Ozzie back?? Please answer. a.) Yes. b.) No. c.) No Bleeping Way. d.) Yes dammit of course! If this topic angers you, sorry. But he is a part of Sox history and he's still young and available and talented. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 30, 2017 -> 09:39 PM) The quitting on the team thing is so cliche. It was late in the year. The Sox wanted to get rid of the mouth that roared. He didn't quit on anybody. He did exactly what the front office wanted ... leave. Ozzie's demise is a great lesson in humility for the working class. Remember no man is bigger than the company he/she works for. ANYBODY is replaceable. Open your mouth too much (once for normal working stiffs) and you are GONE. Remember that. It's why those people getting arrested during protests are so stupid as well. You get arrested, you are done for life. No high paying job for you, arrestee. The world stops for no one. We are ALL replaceable. Ozzie is unhirable cause he opened his trap too much. Case closed. Am I the only one that sees the irony in these two posts?
  25. QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Oct 30, 2017 -> 01:30 PM) TV Ratings: World Series Climbs, Trouncing Sunday Night Football #KeepTakingAKnee http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed...ootball-1052876 Wouldn't have guessed the gap would be that big. As a baseball fan, this makes me so happy.
