Arizona Fall League Preview - White Sox prospects

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Oct 25, 2017 -> 07:08 PM) I disagree. First, Collins repeated WS to open the year while Zavala repeated Kanny. They were not both on the WS roster for very long, as shortly after Zavala's promotion to WS, Collins received a promotion to Birmingham. The org seems to be interested in seeing if they have something in Zavala as evidenced by his AFL assignment, and Zavala has responded very well in a league made up mostly of AA and AAA talent after doing very well all season. He's also 24, and will be 25 by the end of next season. I think a platoon such as the one you contemplate would stunt the development of both players, especially defensively, and I think with Zavala's age, it might be worth testing him to see if he can handle it. Worst case scenario is he busts, and I doubt prior to last season that they had any plans for Zavala considering they started him at Kanny at age 23. Why is his pace dictated by Eloy's pace? Eloy is 3+ years younger. I also think Eloy could probably start at AAA next year, but considering how valuable of a piece he is considered to be to this rebuild, he likely won't. Zavala's situation is entirely different, the White Sox are (or at least appear to be) trying to find out if they have something in him, and I don't think platooning him with Collins is the best way to find that out, or help the development of either player. Zavala was promoted to WS June 26th and Collins promoted from WS to Birmingham August 15th which means they played together on the same roster without issue, for a month and a half. But somehow you think this will be a problem but forcing a catcher to jump from A to AAA is not? Also, age is irrelevant with catchers since they are known to take longer to develop. The point about Eloy is that if he, a very highly rated prospect, is not jumping from A to AAA then there's no chance a lesser prospect like Zavala, and a catcher at that, is going to make that jump. Dare I say, forcing a catcher to make that jump is more detrimental to their development than sharing time with another catcher. It's just a bad idea, plain and simple. -
Cool pre-game seeing those legends out there. Go Dodgers.

QUOTE (credezcrew24 @ Oct 25, 2017 -> 01:08 PM) Chris Sale Carlos Rodon and there are a bunch of recent rule 5 players if you want to count those You named two pitchers and " a bunch " of rule 5 players. Who are the bunch anyway? And the point you missed is when was the last time a prospect position player jumped from A to AAA? Pitchers and position players are very different. -

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Oct 25, 2017 -> 04:57 PM) The issues with Zavala going to AA are Zack Collins (who will start at C for Birmingham next year) and he's 24, will be 25 next season. I said IF (and I recognize those are big IFs) he keeps hitting at this level, which he has hit very well, and has gotten better with each step up in competition level he's faced this year, and IF he can be a good defensive C, he could be a 4+ WAR player (see: 95th+ percentile scenario). My point is if you continue to stick Zavala behind Collins on the same roster, you'll never find out what he has to offer, because Collins will continue to be the organization's priority. There's only two directions, then, for him to go: down to Winston-Salem, where he's already proven himself, or up to Charlotte or Chicago. I'd rather see the org see if they have something in him by pushing him developmentally to get him reps than have him waste away behind Collins and wonder what could have been, especially if Collins doesn't work out. You're creating an issue out of a non issue to support your idea. Both played together at Kanny and WS and both split time at C and DH, and pretty evenly. Worked just fine last year and there's no reason to think them being together at Birmingham won't work out fine as well. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 25, 2017 -> 01:18 PM) Unfortunately this in my eyes makes no sense for the Yankees. The Yankees will save the most money if they can get under the luxury tax in 2018 - they're close, but have to avoid doing too much offseason damage. After 2018 we all know their payroll is going to explode and push them back into tax territory. If they swapped Ellsbury for Shields, they save $1.3 million against the luxury tax level in 2018. They save money on the tax in 2019 by having Ellsbury gone, but the multi-year penalty is going to be worth more than that to them if they can avoid it. After thinking more about it, I think it makes less sense for the Sox to be strapped with Ellsbury's contract. The Yanks benefit more by only paying Shields' 10M salary with the SD still on the hook for the balance. If the Yanks didn't send money with Ellsbury, they would shed 11.8M off their 2018 payroll so that would make sense for them but screw the Sox. Eh, forget it, bad idea.lol

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 25, 2017 -> 11:26 AM) Jesus christ that's a lot of money. $63 million guaranteed with a $5 million buyout to bring it up to $68.4 million total. I will happily take on that deal if they include Torres. Yanks are hell bent on keeping Torres though, can't blame them. What about something like Jacoby Ellsbury + Miguel Andujar + $ for James Shields?

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Oct 25, 2017 -> 02:29 AM) Seby Zavala should be moving up the org depth chart right now. The White Sox should give him a shot to make the roster out of camp and if for some reason he doesn't make the team, he should get full time catcher reps in Charlotte. This is the type of thing that really accelerates a rebuild, finding a guy like Seby Zavala who comes out of nowhere to be a 4+ WAR player at a premium position for you, which he will be if he continues to hit the way he has for the past year and just manages to be not terrible as a catcher defensively. If he can hit like that and play good defense, he could be a future MVP candidate. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. Zavala hasn't played above Winston-Salem yet. Let's not get too aggressive. -
Gregg775, ron883, Iwin4Ron Book it, baby!!!

Career .500 hitter in a Sox uni. Y'all give up too easy.

This was a Mark Buehrle kinda start. A short but fun game to watch.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 05:35 PM) Ha well somebody has to physically throw the baseball. You could argue rushing guys like Guerrero & Stephens to start the season since the big dogs like Kopech & Hansen will get more time in the minors...and maybe just Hansen. Giolito Lopez Shields That's it right now for start of the season right? Apparently a certain someone didn't get the memo on Pelfrey being a free agent after the WS and that Holland was released in early September. Or that Shields has one more year left on his contract.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 07:44 AM) Did you notice who is right in front of him observing the catch? I was so focused on the extension Eloy made to snag the ball I didn't pay attention to the other player. They were destined to be together in the White Sox lineup! Thank you Boston, thank you cubs!

2017-2018 MLB player movement rumors and reports

Always thought Dave Martinez had a good baseball mind. I'm still surprised Martinez and Sandy Alomar aren't managers yet. -
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Oct 20, 2017 -> 05:48 PM) Adequate tools, but nothing special. Probably something like 30/45 on the scouting scale for his glove and 45/55 for his arm. That said, if he's hitting 300/380/580 nobody is really going to give a f*** about being -5 runs in RF/LF over 162 games. Thanks dude. I haven't heard much about his fielding so that's why I asked. Not concerned too much since he's so young he should improve to some degree anyway. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 20, 2017 -> 06:40 PM) I think that him in this system is the biggest reason the White Sox will consider moving Garcia this offseason. No doubt Eloy makes that decision easier. I'd like to see the Sox stick with Avi one more year to see if his power develops. If it does, he could be extended and the corner OF spots are secure for many years to come.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Oct 21, 2017 -> 01:10 AM) This is a thing of beauty: QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 22, 2017 -> 01:29 PM) Can we get back to Eloy? Find another place for the petty whining. Thank you!! Back to the man in the first quoted post above. That's a hell of a camera shot on that catch. Moving along. If Eloy continues to hit in winter ball, I'm thinking a ST invite is almost certain to happen. If he hits in ST I'm not so sure he starts the 2018 season at Birmingham.

Should be a fun World Series to watch. I'll be pulling for the Dodgers.

Congrats to the Astros and I tip my White Sox cap to the Yanks for making much further than ANYONE could have thought. Really impressed with Yanks. GO DODGERS!!!

Is Gardy off his rocker, desperate or bored? -
CC vs Morton at 7 CT I like this match-up for the Yanks. Maybe even too much.

Easy to connect the dots here. Hickey left the Rays over two weeks ago and is from Chicago. Say hello to your new pitching coach cub fans. So who gets the blame for the signings of Heyward, Lackey and Zobrist?
