  1. QUOTE (hi8is @ Oct 7, 2017 -> 10:29 PM) That's cool. You can put any hat on your ass and drag it across the floor like a dog unless it's a Sox hat. Word up home slice. I'm just messing around. In a silly mood tonight, must be the sobriety.
  2. QUOTE (hi8is @ Oct 7, 2017 -> 10:17 PM) Poo poo on your dbacks bs!! ? Oh yeah? I'M going to wear a dodgers cap on my ass and drag it across the floor like a dog! Take that hianis! Signed, Asshat clown puncher. Sorry, I just couldn't resist. I'll throw myself out of this thread.

  4. QUOTE (gosoxtim8 @ Oct 7, 2017 -> 08:24 PM) that what happens when your bulpen is exposed and you cant relly on one person any more Aroldis Chapman approves this post.
  5. QUOTE (ptatc @ Oct 7, 2017 -> 07:22 PM) Seems to have an injury history. I wonder how he'll hold up during an MLB season? Good question. One concern, as with any Japanese pitcher, is adjusting from pitching once a week to every fifth game. I do wonder how teams feel about his desire to be a two way player in the MLB. Personally, I wouldn't let that deter me since the initial cost is peanuts compared to the cost of previous Japanese players.
  6. Hot damn! I turned the game off to go for a walk and come home to a Nat's winner. I am a happy panda.
  7. Good grief Turner. That ball was out of the DC area code.
  8. Really need Turner to make something happen here.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 05:33 PM) Really interesting read on the kid, especially his view on money. http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-shohei...-htmlstory.html One more time around. Edit: this really gives some good insight into the kind of person Otani is. I'll be a fan wherever he signs.
  10. QUOTE (ron883 @ Oct 7, 2017 -> 02:26 PM) So let's say this guy may have made 8 mil in his career. Do you honestly think we don't aim to double his wealth as opposed to making a mere 300k? I can't think of any example where a player who has made as little as he has so far taking such a monster pay cut. It isn't happening unless there is a handshake deal in place I'm sure every team would like to offer more than they're allotment but MLB has stated they will be following this very closely. The most recent example of how closely MLB is following things is the Braves and Maitan. If Otani believes in his abilities ( surely he does ) then taking the 300K to sign won't be a big deal for him. He'll make league minimum (500K+) for the first three years and then he'll begin his arbitration years which he will make much much more than he currently does ( 2M ) in the NPB. Why should the pay cut matter to player that makes 2M per year and lives on less than 1K per month? Again, money is not his motivation. His love of baseball and getting into the MLB is. That's why I feel things like location, the cities culture, a team's past/present with Japanese players and the state of the team ( contender/rebuild) could be the factors that helps him decide where he chooses to sign. I think he ends up with a west coast team, we'll see what happens.
  11. QUOTE (Wanne @ Oct 7, 2017 -> 02:26 PM) Is there a more overrated team than the Nats? I'd have to say no. The Nats played in the weakest division in baseball. The Phillies and Braves have been rebuilding, the Mets were plagued by injuries and the Marlins, well they are the Marlins.
  12. Agree with chili. It's fun reading the early projections but they will change as the 2018 college/HS seasons progress.
  13. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Oct 1, 2017 -> 03:22 PM) Hoping it goes a little somethin like this... NLWC- Rockies NLDS- Rockies beat Dodgers NLDS- Nat's beat cubs ( gimme a sweep! ) ALWC- Yanks beats Twinkies ALDS- Tribe beats Yanks ALDS- ugh, going with the Astros though I really don't want either to win. NLCS- Nat's beat Rockies ALCS- Tribe beats Houston WS- Tribe vs Nat's. Can't decide who I'd rather see win. Gonna have to come back later and make a choice. Gonna go with Cleveland. Nothing against the Nat's but the baseball fan in me thinks it would be cool for the Indians fans to finally enjoy a WS winner. I still remember the feeling myself.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 7, 2017 -> 11:38 AM) He's already made several million dollars. It isn't like he's working for minimum wage over in Japan. Yep. I think it's obvious a few people haven't read the posted article. Otani put his parents in charge of his finances and his mother deposits 1K per month in his personal account and she said he doesn't spend much of it. Money is not his clearly not his motive, his love of baseball is.
  15. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Oct 7, 2017 -> 03:21 AM) He's giving up nearly $200 million to get here 2 years earlier. Comparatively, the difference between $300K and $8 million is nothing. Agreed. In the LA Times article ss2K5 posted , it's looks pretty clear to me this kid is not driven by money. He just loves playing baseball. That article actually changed my perspective on the Sox chances from none whatsoever to anything is possible. Now that money isn't the main factor were left to speculate what exactly he's looking for in his new MLB ball club. Things like location in relation to Japan ( west coast preference? ), which teams will commit to him playing two ways ( would think all since the investment will be cheap), Japanese culture in the new city he plays for, looking for media exposure or a quieter city with less exposure ( big/small market team?), desire to sign with a contender or be apart of a young upcoming rebuilding team (Sox/Braves/Phillies). At this point, the one thing we know for sure is his desire to pitch and hit for his future MLB team.
  16. Cordell does look interesting based on his size, arm, + speed and power potential but his Home/Away splits were just not good at all this past season. Hopefully he can get those splits closer to his '16 numbers.
  17. Betts, WTF was that? He looked like an NFL QB on that. Astros pouring it on now. Mercy!
  18. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 6, 2017 -> 03:35 PM) I think minor league. Random note, but Kevin Siegrist was released the other day. They should gamble on him on a minor league deal. I like the Siegrist idea, especially being left handed. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 6, 2017 -> 03:39 PM) MiLB https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/01/whit...ague-deals.html Right on.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 6, 2017 -> 03:24 PM) I don't think there will be many major league deals in the pen, but MiLB ones. I can't see the Sox spending much, but bringing in some warm bodies to see what sticks. Was Swarzak signed to a minor or major league deal? I forget off the top of my head. He's what I had in mind when I said sign a few guys.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 6, 2017 -> 02:56 PM) I always hoped AJ would end up in the booth with Hawk one day, and then take over for him. AJ, Stone and the Rally Unicorn would be a great trio.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 6, 2017 -> 02:55 PM) With the way the Sox used Hanson this year, I think there are about five players that go before him. There are multiple guys in the pen that will be gone long before Hanson. As bad as the pen was and the likelihood of Hahn using some spots to sign a few veteran relievers, I think that's a good call.
  22. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 6, 2017 -> 02:53 PM) Yeah more thank likely. Now that Tilson is back and there's no risk of any baseball related injuries during the off season, May will be gone.
