QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 02:40 AM) He must be taking a massive po....... uh..... nevermind. I can't say that word without unleashing the wrath. Yea.... RIP 2017 White Sox baseball. It's been a fun season, in a very very different way. Hopefully he returns, haven't seen him around for a long time. Mikes a good dude. Yeah, gonna miss White Sox baseball for sure. I think once the WS is over I'm going to slumber over the cold ass boring winter. Just sleep old man winter away. I'll have the wifey wake me the day pitchers and catchers report. s***, our birthdays are in January so I guess I'll have to wake from the slumber a few times. Bummer, dude. -
QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 12:25 AM) I think you're being a bit hard on him and discounting the next stage of his evolution as a hitter... he really is primed to start stepping into his power next year. Get what you're sayin and all, thou. I'm not sold that Avi will generate enough lift to truly tap into his power potential. I hope I'm wrong but 30+ walks per year and less than 20HR's is just not impressive from the RF position. It's kinda moot anyway because even if Avi is on the Sox next year he will be moved from RF when Eloy is ready. Avi can't stop that runaway freight train.

Well, TA plays a premium position that isn't flowing with an abundance talent available. Meanwhile Avi is a corner outfielder that does not draw enough walks, hit for enough power and plays a position overflowing with talent. There's no comparison to be made between TA and Avi. Edit to add: TA also has five years of control left, Avi has two. Very different situations when looking a few years down the road.

I'd like to see more of Frye and Bummer next year. Also think Covey could be useful in a long relief role. Doubtful Albuquerque is back next year so that leaves Beck which I wouldn't oppose to giving hugs him one more look out of the pen next year.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 09:28 PM) The south sucks balls with it's humidity... and you have no idea how much I could move / travel around... hi8is junior ties me to the area since The Vampire won't just turn into a bat and vanish forever. That's what my lady says. She grew up in Georgia and was living in Phoenix when we met so I just take her word for it. As for the lovely ex Mrs.hi8is , not sure what to do there. You're kinda bound to her I suppose. Bummer dude. Uh, better get this thread back on track before we derail it any further. You're bad influence hi8is. Oh, random thought. What ever happened to chisoxmike? -
QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 09:10 PM) I do not recall you being a previous offender of that song. Was trying it on for size but in the end I discovered it wasn't for me so I changed my tune.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 09:08 PM) This is exactly how I am Conversely, here in California - I'm loving the escape from triple digit heat and continually pray for more and more rain. I've been to ChiTown a few times during the winter and... uh... yea... I don't envy you. Come baseball season, that envy surely rises up. If I lived in Chicago - I have not a single doubt that I'd be working at 35th and Shields in the front office. ( My inability to do so yet again can be traced back to my bonehead decision to marry and breed with the good old lovely ex Mrs. hi8is. She's such a peach. ) Ha ha, bats*** crazy for the first two months of the new year. Just call me Tweek! Yeah man, Chicago winters suck and especially if ya got a few aches and pains. I told the lil woman we should move to the southwest and she said " f*** that. I'm not going back to living in a f***ing oven. Dry heat my ass". To which I promptly replied with " Uh, OK". Now that your no longer with Mrs.hi8is, we can use a few more Sox fans in Chicago. Just disregard everything I just said about Chicago winters. -
QUOTE (Lillian @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 09:06 PM) According to Baseball Reference splits, Tim is batting over .300 leading off an inning, but only .262 with an OBP of .278, batting 1ST in the lineup. Ah, that must be where my confusion is coming from. Thanks for clarifying Lillian.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 09:02 PM) Boy, does that sound familiar Sorry, couldn't resist. I'll just show myself the door.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 08:24 PM) Would have been nice to see Yoan come up big there with the bases juiced. Edit: congrats Jose!! Bust. Trade him before his value plummets any further!

QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 08:40 PM) The offseason is always fun to be absorbed in a bunch of stuff. Usually around January I get really antsy and by February I'm about ready to burst into flames... then spring training rolls around starting with reporting and a wave of relief washes over me. Hopefully we'll have an active offseason hot stove to watch around the entire league. Same here. The holidays and winter meetings helps the time to pass but once were into the new year, I start getting antsy like a mofo. Once pitchers and catchers report I'm OK but bored out of my skull before that. Cold Chicago winters don't exactly help either. -
QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 12:14 AM) Collins for me was behind others available with my preference. Some of which haven't turned out as well as he has and one other who is actually now in our farm. I didn't care for the hitch in his swing and didn't know enough of him defensively to be stoked on the pick. He was also the first pick under the new regime - before we knew of their now two year long philosophy of evaluating hitters. By no means did I hate the pick and quickly gave him some trust. A year and a half later, I'm happy about him and more hopeful. Gotcha. I take it Rutherford is the guy you wanted in the draft?

QUOTE (Tony @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 08:19 PM) Both ESPN and BR give me these numbers: https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...ar=2017&t=b All I see are his full season numbers but nothing about batting lead off.
-
TA gonna have a sore but cheek tomorrow. Glad TA was cool about and wasn't pissed.

QUOTE (Tony @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 08:14 PM) Hopefully Eloy has the #3 spot locked down for the next 10 years. Ha ha, thinking the same thing.
-
QUOTE (Tony @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 08:12 PM) By the way, where are you getting the .310 number? Batting No. 1, I see 172 AB's, .262 AVG, .278 OBP. From baseball cube. I checked the lead off box and clicked the filter button and that's what came up. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/pro...=tim-anderson-2

QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 07:55 PM) 10 - 3 now. I think I will stop looking at Tigers games... it's a lost cause. Let's hope the Sox can pass Philly to stay in the top three. It's OK, Albuquerque is in so help is here.
-
QUOTE (Tony @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 07:50 PM) TA hitting .310 for the season is about the only way it works, you're correct. So far in his career, the difference in his BA to OBP has been about 20 points. His OBP is SO heavily weighted on his BA I just don't see how he becomes anything more than a 6 hitter. (Which is fine) I understand OBP is a factor in deciding who leads off but it isn't the only factor either. Hell, he's already a better hitter than Alexei was in the lead off spot. I like the idea of trying to get TA on base ahead of Moncada. I like the idea of Anderson's speed as a potential disruption to the pitcher during Moncada's at bats. Might help the pitcher make a mistake over the plate to Moncada.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 07:40 PM) Crapola - Tigers now down 4 to 3. Edit: well, f***. 6 to 3. Tigers to the number 1 slot by years end. I just fudged my huggies.
-
So much for the tiger's pen holding up. Pricks!
-
QUOTE (Tony @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 07:34 PM) I don't think TA will ever feature a OBP that calls for him to set the table at #1. He likely won't but he has hit .310 in the lead-off spot this year and combined with his speed, it could work.
-
Tigers up 3-2 in the 7th. Hope the tiger pen holds up. Phillies up 2-0 in the fifth.
