QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 04:32 PM) You realize it's a dome right? Ha ha. I missed last nights game so I forgot they were in Houston. DoH!

As a baseball fan I feel for the Tiger's fans that have to watch such a bad team that will probably be worse next year. As a Sox fan I say f*** em. Ha Ha ! Good news is Shields has to face that Houston offense on what will be a warm humid evening. I really think Shields stands a very good chance of completely s***ting the bed. After tonight's game the Sox will have one more with Houston and three with KC. Meanwhile Detroit hosts the Twinkies for four games starting tomorrow. s***, f***ing Detroit just might snatch that #1 out from under the rest of the cellar dwellers. Pricks...

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 12:47 PM) Haha true. I was just referring to the skepticism that he will stick at catcher. Yeah, I think Collins squashed alot of the skepticism this year. He still has work to do but I think it's safe to say he surpassed most expectations on how much he would improve defensively this year.

3-0 A's in the 7th.

Yeah, what flavum said. I thought Colon would at least keep the Twinkies in the game.

Are we allowed to get nervous about Moncada at this point?

QUOTE (Dunt @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 01:30 PM) Regarding Giolito's curve, did anyone notice he introduced a new iteration of it yesterday? In his previous 5 starts, I remember it being almost strictly 12-6. Yesterday, he was throwing more of a slurvy curve, especially through the first few innings. He did mix in the 12-6 as well, but the new one seemed to have more lateral movement. I noticed it too but ( could be wrong ) the movement and velocity is more like a slider. Could be trying add the slider to his repertoire to help compensate for the currently inconsistent curve ball? -
Judge just hit #45 to make it a 3-2 Twinkies lead in the 3rd. As I was typing that, Sanchez just went yard to tie the game at 3.

The Era of the No-Good, Very Bad Home Run Hitter

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 11:40 AM) Because Joey Gallo is actually good. He has a 125 wRC+ and ~3 WAR on the season, he is way better than every other hitter mentioned in the article, he clearly does not belong in that group. Yep. Looking at the stats, the difference between Gallo and the rest is Gallo takes more walks which gives him more opportunities to score more runs for his team. Gallo is more of a left handed Chris Carter. Hits some bombs, draws some walks, K's a ton and hits for s***. -
For anyone interested, here's the three games on ESPN today. Should be some good baseball. Twins @ Yanks NoonCT Colon vs Severino Boston @ Baltimore 6:00pm CT Sale vs Miley Cleveland @ LAA 9:00pm CT Tomlin vs Nolasco

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2017 -> 01:59 PM) I still think they will grab a starting pitcher in the Rule 5 draft, and I also expect that there will be an opening for a starter as an injury replacement long before we have to worry about Kopech being ready - that could be for Fulmer or Kopech, depending on when it happens. Yeah, I just remembered the injuries Rodon has dealt with so keeping that in mind it's a good idea to sign or snag a starter from the rule 5.
-
I think Hahn looks for starters willing to take a ST invite or sign to a minor league deal. No point in signing a starter to be #5 in a development year. Start the season with Rodon, Shields, Lopez, Giolito and Fulmer. I'm not very high on Fulmer but he's shown enough to be the team's #5 to start the season. If Fulmer struggles then he goes to Charlotte when Kopech is ready but if he succeeds, Shields gets bumped to the pen for Kopech. Definitely think the Sox look for more Swarzak type relievers to potentially flip at the deadline.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2017 -> 10:13 AM) I do not remember seeing Kenny Williams attached to that. Pretty sure this is what I'm vaguely remembering from. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/02/whit...rebuild-qa.html -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 19, 2017 -> 09:55 AM) No, it was JR all the way. I 100% believe Williams was on board, but Reinsdorf said "give it one more try," basically because they'd still be able to maximize the value of their roster if they didn't do anything that year, depending on injuries. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2017 -> 09:57 AM) I have not seen anything that said Williams opposed a rebuild. In fact I remember seeing that Kenny had wanted to rebuild at times, but was overruled. Could be wrong but I thought Hahn had said last winter that he wanted to rebuild before the Shark trade and Robertson/Melky signings but those acquisitions were a last ditch effort by KW and JR. -
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 19, 2017 -> 09:20 AM) Damn. Wish I was off work to watch and relax. I really need a day to just watch some exciting baseball. I'll admit, outside of the games I've been to this year, I honestly haven't watched much of the Sox or any other baseball this year for that matter, even though I've followed our team and all the moves we've made and read this site everyday. I can relate. I unplugged the cable from my TV years ago and followed on the net. For some unknown reason, the day of the first Sox Cubs game I decided to plug the cable back in and enjoy the only game I love. Been watching baseball pretty much every day since then. Forgot how relaxing it is to watch baseball. It's been therapeutic for the aches and pains.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 19, 2017 -> 08:31 AM) Probably because almost all of the rotation will be pushing their innings significantly. Good way to keep them in the rotation and add innings more gradually Good point. Looks like the entire rotation ( including Rodon ) will be building innings next year so it makes some sense. How about this? Start the season with Rodon, Shields, Lopez, Giolito and Fulmer. When Kopech is ready he becomes the sixth starter. If Hansen progresses like I think he will, the Sox can trade/dump Shields in July/August and give his spot to Hansen. Due to the Sox desire to be competitive in 2019, I think they bring Hansen up earlier than expected to get him acclimated to life in the MLB. If things progress as I think they could, the 2019 rotation would be Rodon, Kopech, Lopez, Giolito and Hansen. That leaves two options for Fulmer 1) become a reliever or 2) if he has some success as a 2018 starter, he can be used in a trade to help fill a hole somewhere on the 2019 roster. Well, it sounds good in theory, we'll see.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 18, 2017 -> 09:42 PM) The one time I use Greg-logic is here. I think those were all JR/KW "WE MUST GO FOR IT NOW" moves then they finally let Rick rebuild this past off season when it all fell apart yet again. IIRC. I think last winter Hahn indicated that he wanted to rebuild sooner but JR and KW wanted to go for it. I don't think KW was onboard with the idea until the 2016 unraveled on them and that's when KW changed his tune which eventually convinced JR to finally rebuild. -
ESPN has a good double header this evening. Twinkies @ Yankees 5:00CT and then Cleveland @ Angels 8:00CT. They also have a triple header lined up for Wednesday making for a full day of baseball.

QUOTE (Real @ Sep 19, 2017 -> 12:22 AM) wouldn't surprise me if they go with a 6-man at some point next year, maybe not for the full year but perhaps to start the season or start the all-star break Just curious but why a six man rotation? The way Fulmer has pitched I'd go ahead and throw him in the rotation next year to see how he responds. Start the season with Rodon, Shields, Lopez, Giolito and Fulmer. When Kopech is ready we wave our final goodbye to Shields. Nice thing is if for some reason Fulmer doesn't stick as a starter, Hansen could be ready for a September call-up next year, possibly sooner. Hansen pitched 141+ innings this year so a September call-up next year would help to build his innings to the 160-175 range to help get him prepared for 2019.

With the Twins playing 7/13 games against Detroit it doesn't look good for the halos.

QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Sep 17, 2017 -> 12:28 AM) nearing .270? .263 is nowhere near .270 this late in a season. still can't walk to save his life he has to hit well over .300 to have good offensive value. Come on dude. Is .007 in BA that big of a difference? Gregg deserves some credit for coming around on TA.

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 16, 2017 -> 07:29 PM) Only a couple of hard tunes. I'll listen through again. Sounds like Dave is slowing down. Was hoping for stuff along the lines of White Limo. I'll have to pick it up tomorrow and give it a listen.

Lopez looks like he could use a breather. Hopefully the Sox can score a few next inning.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 16, 2017 -> 06:31 PM) No reason why this team shouldn't be top 5 in SBs in the next year or so. No doubt. There's some serious speed on this team.
