QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 01:21 PM) As someone not watching the game...what does this mean? Throwing HR's. Radke was known for giving up the long ball. Shields gave up two last inning.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 01:16 PM) But you fail to understand that it's easier said than done to move someone to catcher who has likely never played the position. Yeah, I'm thinking that taking a young fast short stop and moving him to catcher where he's going to be squatting every game will do nothing but hurt his speed. If TA is to be moved from SS, which I don't agree with, it should be to the outfield where his speed would be better utilized. That said, IMHO, TA is right where he should be, at SS. Funny. As I was typing this post TA knocked in two with a single.

Shields looking like Brad Radke.
-
What's the under/over for how many Tiger batters will be hit in this series?
-
Hell of a catch by TA! Not sure how he was able to keep track of the ball and Hanson at the same time. Shields with a Strohman like reaction.

I didn't know there was another day game until I got an email alert about the game getting ready to come on. If not for that I might have missed this game and Moncada's HR.
-
Oh, I really like this scenario you've laid out Jose Abreu. Based on the info, I would be tempted to go for it one last time with Sale and Q.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 11:26 AM) A wall at an angle... hand went about 3 feet deep and met the corner beam. Duh. Smooth move ex-lax, lol. Mine was a craftsman tool box. Took forever to heal and when it did, the bone healed with an arch to serve as reminder of how stupid I can be.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 11:21 AM) I mean, we didn't either. Who is Ryan Lewis? Do you mean Zach Lewis? The one who's mother complained on our Facebook page that we didn't talk about him enough in the article? Lol, seriously? Wow, I feel bad for the kid. Great work again by the future Sox crew. Always enjoy reading up on the progress of Sox prospects. Looking ahead to 2018. Am I correct in thinking Dunning and Rose move to AA with Burger moving to WS?

QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 12:38 AM) Ptatc helped me heal a boxers fracture I suffered in 2012 all from my soxtalk inbox. I know exactly what Boxers fracture is. What did you punch?

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 09:49 AM) Didn't you hear? JR is cheap and won't spend a dime! This whole "rebuild" is really just to line is pockets. It has nothing to do with there needing to be actual worthwhile free agents to spend money on, 100% JR. Damn dude, my bad. I forgot JR is cheap for spending 28M on a 19 year old, lol. But still, why not spend big this winter? If the Sox spend big this winter and next, they will have the most bestest uber collection of free agent signings that will inhibit the Sox ability to sign their young talent long term, in a few years. Then, we can reignite the cycle of whining and complaining about how some of the signings are not living up to expectations followed by trade proposals that will bring back top flight talent for a player we don't want because they suck. After that, talk of how the FO was stupid for trying to spend their way into contention which never works for them. Then, talk about how the Sox FO needs to change some of their scouting and coaching to help draft and build a better farm. Then the impatient nutters come out with a win now mentality to start signing free agents and therefore bringing about a full circle of idiocracy. Did I sum that up correctly. Hopefully I didn't miss anything.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 05:56 AM) Where is Manny Machado in the projected lineup? I really wanna see the Sox spend this off-season. They have money, there are some really good young players out there, and their first round pick will be protected. Machado and Harper both are not free agents until the end of the 2018 season. As far as young players available in free agency this year, who will be a free agent thus year that the Sox should sign? I see nothing but 28+ year old veterans looking for a big pay day which does not lineup with what the Sox are doing. The Sox need to give their talent another year of development to know what holes remain at the end of the '18 season. Then over the 2018/19 winter the Sox can look at filling a hole or two with free agents. If you seriously think the Sox are going to spend their way back to contention this winter, you are going to be very dissapointed.

QUOTE (Yoda @ Sep 9, 2017 -> 10:34 AM) Country music singer Don Williams died yesterday at the age of 78. I can only find reports stating he died of a short illness. No specifics on what the illness was. My dad brought me up listening to him and I got my gf hooked on a few of his songs. Truly a hard pill to swallow. Wow. Talk about a blast from the past! Not a fan of county music in the least bit but my father is from Tennessee and was a huge Don Williams fan when I was a kid growing up. Ironically, my father is the same age and I remember when he was younger, my mom though he looked a bit like Don. Though I'm not a fan, I am sorry to hear about Don Williams. RIP Don.

Not looking good so far. Hopefully Kanny will adapt to Diaz the second time through the order.

Ron, I really appreciate your enthusiasm and I do think the Sox will be better than possibly expected but it would be one year too soon, IMHO. We're going to see growing pains from likely every young player that comes up ( see Tim Anderson and Moncada) so we will see some inconsistency with the team next year. Giolito, Lopez, at some point Kopech and maybe even Fulmer wil be building innings as starters, working on command/control of pitches and learning the hitters. And the same can be said about Rodon as well since he's missed so much time this year. The pitches no staff won't be contender ready next year but I do think they are poised to break out in '19. They just might have the offense next year to compete but I'm actually hoping they don't compete because it would force more innings on the young pitchers. If we're to rely on these guys for years to come, let's do it right and make those future horses thoroughbreds. One surprise I'm hoping for next year is the Sox call up Hansen before September to start getting him acclimated to the MLB so he can help the contending 2019 team. As of now, Hansen's timeline matches up pretty well with an expected ( by me ) departure of James Shields by the ASB next year. Barring injury, I think Shields is a gone goose once Hansen is ready.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 05:44 PM) Can we just skip the offseason and fast forward to the 1st week of March please? I'm ready to see what these kids can do over the course of a full season. The way TA, Delmonico, Moncada (at times) and Yolmer have hit over the last month really has me exited. Same with Reylo and Gio on the pitching front. Middle of July next year Kopech and Eloy will probably both be up. Maybe Gillaspie as well if he's tearing it up or another surprise. The rebuild is going well. If the Sox get the 4th pick instead of the 2nd pick because some kids that are part of the future played well this Sep then so be it. As mentioned, just don't have James Shields going 7 innings of one run ball in a 2-1 win please. My man, you had me at the first sentence. Two things I dislike most about winter 1) cold 2) no baseball.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 02:14 PM) He's my favorite poster on this site - hands down... most valuable and unique insight I've ever seen in a public forum. Yeah man, agreed. He gives guys like us a good visual of the injury, how it's happened and what we might expect. Won't see stuff like that from Levine article. QUOTE (ptatc @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 02:35 PM) Thanks, but it's only because I'm old and being working with athlete's for a long time. Well, your experience is teaching us younger fellas a few things so by all means keep sharing. It actually gives me a little insight to my own aches and pains.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 05:15 PM) I hope its pretty clear by now that Sox wins usually are a result of the young guys doing well. Earlier it was easy to accept losses because there weren't as many young guys around. Now the team is full of them . Difficult to have your cake and eat it too. Sox losses with youngsters playing well are a bit harder to achieve now. Yep. Lately I've been thinking 2018 will not be a tank year. As players come up and adapt, they will get better and win more games. Next year we will see Kopech, Jimenez and perhaps Collins make their way to the Sox which would be additional boosts to the players that are winning games now. The team should be better next year. If not, something is wrong.

QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Sep 12, 2017 -> 08:40 PM) Wait until the AL East gets the book on him. He might not be as good as he was with our Sox going forward. Sale is a bit of a headcase. He reminds me of Crazy Carlos Zambrano. Also, I think Kluber has overtaken him for AL Cy Young. The ALC adapted so there's no reason to think the ALE will not do the same. The Yanks have hit Sale the last few times so it looks like they've adapted. Yeah, Sale is a bit of a headcase but he still falls short of Zambozo. Sale is intense but Zambozo was just plain nuts. At least Sale didn't fight with his catcher, lol. As for the CY. Not sure if I'd take Kluber or Sale at this point. Strong arguments can be made for both.

Giolito pitched very well without his best stuff. Anderson, Avi and Moncada with good days. Lots to be happy about.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 04:36 PM) We should just get our bullpen back from the Yankees and Brewers, call up Kopech and Eloy and just win the World Series this year. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 02:09 PM) Besides being a White Sox, you have to pull for him. He plays hard. He even runs out to his position hard. Yep, no doubt. The kid plays the game the right way. QUOTE (Scoots @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 02:11 PM) Yep. With his defense out there in the outfield, I think he probably has the majority of starts in Center next year as long as he stays healthy, no mattee really how he hits, just because he saves a lot of pitchers some headache with the range he has out there. Anything he does offensively is a plus. So you can sit back and enjoy him next year for probably at least a couple more months haha. Yeah, don't see anyone taking CF from Engel. Polo might be the next best chance for CF but he shouldn't be ready until mid summer next year. Engel should be safe for a while. -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 02:01 PM) I'm still not convinced. Most of the money would go to the posting fee to Otani's team. Currently that is $20M and it's now undergoing negotiations to change but not expected to be altered much if at all. The Sox could easily pay that. It's very easy to say the Sox won't get him since the odds are long but to dismiss there's a chance for him entirely is a mistake . The Sox may have to wait a while for Robert, Imagine an instant star like Otani and everything it could mean to the Sox right now ! They need to make every effort to get him however long the odds appear. Otani isn't in it for the money ( though I believe 300K won't be nearly enough) and even if he was there would be no shortage of teams looking to throw money at him so the competition will be fierce. The fact that the Sox are rebuilding doesn't do much to entice Otani to sign with the Sox either. Think about it, Otani is clearly MLB ready and a more advanced talent than Robert and yet the Sox made sure they signed Robert knowing it would take them out of the running for Otani. Why? Because they knew they were longshots at best for Otani so they went after the safer bet that had less competition. If they skipped on Robert to go after Otani and failed, the backlash would have been brutal. The Sox chose wisely. I honestly think there's zero chance Otani signs with the Sox. However, I will admit that I would like their chances much more if we could somehow get rid of the other 29 teams when Otani is ready sign.

Holy cow the info that ptatc shares with the board, much appreciated. Do you do consultations as well, lol?
