  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 8, 2017 -> 01:21 PM) Rick Hahn going all out for the first pick. Really dude? More tinfoil hat stuff from you? After Brantley, a catcher, pitched last night. Isn't it clear that these two bold moves are to improve upon on team's post season aspirations? Good grief, even strawberry shortcake could see that. I don't know about some of y'all round hea. Crazy talk!
  2. I think tonight's game is the Sox best chance for a win and I'm not all that confident in this offense against Moore. Despite shark bait pitching Saturday, he's still opposed by James f***ing Shields, ugh. Sunday is Bumgarner, LMAO. Definitely potential or a sweep if the Sox don't put up some offense this weekend.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 8, 2017 -> 01:27 PM) Guessing here - we'll see some OBP improvement from Davidson next year and some defensive improvement from Delmonico. How that will shake out in the end? Dunno. Hmm. Dunno is the right answer at this point. However, if Hahn is successful in trading Abreu this winter, the picture becomes clearer. Then it's a matter of which DH's and which plays 1B. Early guess would be Davidson at 1B and Delmonico DH's. This allows them to use Sanchez at 3B for his defense.
  4. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 8, 2017 -> 01:16 PM) What if I told you that Willy's OPS is 19 points better than Leury's? SSS, sure, but he has promise and seems to be able to handle MLB pitching. Not enough to deter me from taking Leury over Willy and I do like Willy. I prefer Leary's defense/speed and lead off potential vs Willy's arm and power. Willy would be a perfect fit for RF if Avi is traded. At least until Eloy is ready.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 8, 2017 -> 01:01 PM) I'm fascinated by the fact that this was all written without any mention of Delmonico. Yeah, my bad. Yesterday I posted how I think Delmonico becomes the DH, which is why I left him out of the discussion.
  6. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 8, 2017 -> 11:50 AM) I'm actually surprised so many would rather see Engel in CF over Leury. I am a huge fan of great defense especially in CF but now Leury has the better bat and certainly has the speed to play the position well if not the fundamentals . I was pining for Jackie Bradley and Buxton for a long time. I'm happy Engel is getting a shot and all but he needs to show something with the bat soon. Next year the Sox OF will be pretty crowded Avi got plenty of opportunities. He was Mr. 9 lives but he was under 25 years old . It's easier to wait on a much younger player . Engel will be 26 at the beginning of spring training for the 2018 season. I see Leury in the same way as Engel. For the time being, CF is Engel's to lose and LF is Leury's to lose. It's up to the rest of the 3A and 4A outfielders to take those spots from Adam and Leury next year. I purposely left out RF because we all know who ends up there. I do see a way where Engel and Leury might have to fight for the CF spot in ST. Ryan Cordell. He has all winter to get healthy and prepare for ST. Based on how there's usually a surprise or two, I'm thinking a healthy Ryan Cordell comes out and takes the LF spot and forces Leury to compete with Engel for CF. Not that Cordell is expected to become anything special, it's just that I don't see any of these guys, Liriano/Tilson/May/Willy G/etc, being anythng special either. Before his injury, Cordell had some nice power numbers at AAA. I think that for now, Engel is safe. ST wil be fun next year and especially if the Sox trade Avi. The outfield is going to be a battle royale.
  7. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 8, 2017 -> 10:49 AM) I'd say your Berry joke was lost on most of the audience. The former F-Troop star , Mayberry RFD and the Carol Burnett spinoff Mama's Family star was hardly a household name. The Sox Ken Berry might be slightly more well know on a Sox forum but he played so long ago. I know the old timers here remember the "Bandit" . That nickname derived from robbing HR's . The baseball Berry was a technical consultant and also made a cameo in the baseball movie of the 1919 White Sox , Eight Men Out. I always put in my 2 cents about him because he along with Joel Horlen were my boyhood favorite Sox players. If anyone ever thought the actor and ball player were one and the same you wouldn't be alone as crazy as that sounds. http://www.fangraphs.com/tht/card-corner-1...ry-and-f-troop/ Yeah, I just threw that out there for s***s and giggles. Read the name and all the shows you named came to mind. No surprise you picked up on it. I'm fine with Engel in CF. Let him play until he shows the job is his or until someone takes it from him. I don't think Engel has a serious threat for CF until Polo comes in the picture mid summer next year. Tilson, May, Leury aren't going to push Engel out of CF so Engel has his opportunity. Let's see what he does with it.
  8. I knew Ken Berry could sing, dance and act but didn't know he could play CF too. Ha, pretty cool! Anyways... Two reasons for taking the wait and see approach with Engel. 1) Brian Anderson 2) Trayce Thompson. It doesn't really matter because once Tito Polo arrives we won't remember what an Adam Engel was.
  9. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 7, 2017 -> 01:22 PM) Trading Melky created an opening in left that Leury slid over from center to fill. But with the emergence of Delmonico, doesn't Leury then slide right back over to center, given that his overall game is better than Engel's? Leury is no slouch defensively, but I think he proved this year that he has a MLB-caliber bat, and therefore I think he's the better option to start next year in center over Engel, at least at this point. At this point Engel can stay in CF. When Leury comes back he goes back to LF, Engel stays in CF, Avi in RF, Delmonico DH, Davidson/Sanchez 3B, TA at SS, Sanchez/Saladino at 2B until Moncada returns. And that, thankfully, puts Hanson on the bench. I have tried to sit down and drink enough beers during the game to make Hanson's defense look better but it just doesn't work. And no, the beer is not broken. Sorry, Hanson is still on the mind from last night's game, ugh.
  10. QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 7, 2017 -> 09:35 AM) hahaaaa....he edited it of course (after a few of us mocked his ass on twitter)...he said Kopech came over with Giolito and Dunning in the Eaton trade and was later referring about his time with the Nationals and how good it was for him. Looked like a complete uninformed boob... Oh wow. That's some butchery right there and was obviously written off the top of his head. I like Levine the person ( nice guy, really ) but not the writer. Sounds like Bruce is getting worse and completely out of touch from the White Sox. Stick with your cubbies Bruce. Did you catch the game last night when Kopech was in the booth? He's still young but has a mature head on his shoulders. Bright kid.
  11. QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 6, 2017 -> 11:00 PM) http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2017/09/06/mic...-for-next-step/ Nice write up Levine lol...geezus. How bad is it? I stopped reading anything from Levine a while ago. All he does is regurgitate what someone else has written. Congrats to Kopech on a great season. Made some big strides.
  12. Not at all surprised by Holland's response. Has been a great guy since day one and wish him the best. Who knows, we might reunite again later if/when he becomes a reliever.
  13. Great. Philly starts a four game series in Washington tonight. Ha, this must be what Phillies fans must have thought when they saw the tribe heading to Chicago for four games. If the Sox are destined to win one game against the Giants, please let it be against shark bait.
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 6, 2017 -> 08:39 PM) My jinx worked Oh, so it was your idea to put Hanson in the lineup? Not cool!
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 6, 2017 -> 07:56 PM) Yes he did lol. To his credit, Kopech gave an answer that made it seem like a slightly different question was asked Yep, Kopech handled that very well in how he responded. Ha ha, Kopech with the save.
  16. QUOTE (harkness @ Sep 6, 2017 -> 08:29 PM) Hanson can play a lot of positions for sure... He just isn't good at any of them. Micah Johnson 2.0 ( added switch hit option )
  17. So, pipeline grades Engel and Buxton an 80 for speed. Buxton covers a better defender, is faster on the bases and steals far more bases than Engel. Engel is certainly not an 80 grade for speed. Love watching him play CF though. He's a blast to watch.
  18. Did Benetti really just ask Kopech why he changed his slider after Kopech had just explained why?
  19. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 6, 2017 -> 11:50 AM) this made me laugh So Engel is baseball's Steve Austin ( not the wrestler) ? He looks so real!
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 6, 2017 -> 10:10 AM) My impression is that those games are basically played in back lots. Maybe the Mexican league has some fanfare. Yeah, didn't think so. The Mexican league is a good suggestion though, I'll check into when October gets here. My Spanish could use a refresh anyway, I've stated to forget some of the best cuss words. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 6, 2017 -> 10:12 AM) Maybe you can pick up the munchkin feed? What, they've eaten their rations already? Lil buggers become more like gremlins every day. New MLB marketing campaign for Oz, " boomerangs for bats". Yes, no, maybe so?
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 04:10 PM) I think the 3rd OF someone mentioned as possible last time was Valaika correct? Once Gonzalez is out of the way, they've got Valaika, Desmond, Blackmon, and Parra. If you don't have confidence in Desmond, and Valaika isn't lighting the world on fire although he's been better than Gonzalez...I still think there's a decent match. I think Coors field would expose Avi. Colorodo is a great place for hitters that can get the ball off the ground which Avi still struggles with. Also, Avi does a fine job in a small park like GRF but I think Coors would eat him alive. How does Hahn get the Rockies to look past those two things?
  22. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Sep 6, 2017 -> 08:42 AM) $20 Mon-Sat, $10 on Sundays (Family Sundays). Definitely the cheapest of the Chicago professional teams. Well done sir.
  23. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Sep 6, 2017 -> 08:31 AM) What is the cost to park for a White Sox game???I know Boston is approx $40 for baseball and Patriots in suburbs is also $40. 20 bucks Monday-Saturday, 10 on Sunday.
