The Astros can talk about the small ligament and future issues that might arise from it, but they're really beating themselves up here. If they don't sign him, it leaves a bad vibe with the fanbase, leaves Aiken to prove them wrong, and future draft picks will be aware of the way the Astros handled this. If they sign him for the 40%, Aiken will remember the cheapness of the Astros come resigning time.

HOF considering not counting blank ballots
TheTruth05 replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 10:09 AM) HOF is such a joke yup. if they're considering not counting blank votes then might as well overhaul the whole system, which of course, they will not. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 09:55 AM) One big thing is, Stephenson leaving Pacers, well it might fix their clubhouse but it will have a negative impact on their offense. They are going to need Paul George to be top 3 player in the NBA Paul George if they plan on making it out of even the East. I think Vogel was more of the problem for maybe not taking control of his clubhouse, idk, Indiana was and still might be a weird situation. They need Paul George AND Roy Hibbert to play more like they did 2 years ago than last year. Either way, Bulls will be competing with the Cavs for 1st place in the Central if (sigh) DRose returns to form soon enough.

QUOTE (glangon @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 05:10 AM) Unless we get a mouthwatering deal, I wouldn't move Alexei. I reckon Hahn sees him and Abreu as the heart of the infield and is building around them. I think this would be true if Alexei was 27/28 as well but he'll be 33 by season's end so I would trade high with Alexei because his contract adds a lot of value to him, aside from already being one of the best shortstops in the game currently.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 07:01 AM) Lance to charlotte 3 yr/ 27mil (3rd year looks like a team option) Good pickup for the Hornets, adds some scoring to that roster, let's just see if they can smooth out his antics.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 06:30 AM) I have zero problem with Wainwright grooving a pitch to Jeter. The problem is that the All-Star Game shouldn't count. You can't have it both ways. Every team must be represented and 40-year old Derek Jeter can lead off, but game 7 of the WS is on the line. That's silly. An All-Star game should be about the top players and stars being honored, having some fun and showing off their skills to the fans. Just like the other major sports do it. I agree with you for the most part, but IMO, the MLB ASG is the only all star game i actually tune into. I think these guys actually try at least a little bit for the most part unlike the horrid NFL and NBA all-star games where these guys are basically practicing on live tv. I think they should implement some type of system to keep the AL vs NL relevant like whichever league wins get the next year's ASG at one of their parks, something to keep the game at least a bit interesting, but yea the WS shouldn't be in play in something so irrelevant to it.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 06:26 AM) Wade gets 11 million less than If he would of not opted out. And he's still overpaid. He's not worth $15 a year anymore.

A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 06:35 AM) Maybe not the smartest play to start poaching nicknames from Albert Pujols? I know Pujols never loved the nickname El Hombre because of the connection to Stan Musual and preferred The Machine instead but people have been calling him that for over a decade now. Maybe Hawk wants it to be the new "pudge" for Latin American firstbasemen? Personally, I love the nickname Yogi because, dammit, he looks like Yogi Bear and it fits his good-natured personality. But if the man wants to be called Pito, you call him Pito. From the spanish I know, Pito is either a whistle of some sort or a slang word for penis. and I just looked it up, and in some South American countries I guess it means a joint. lol -
Can't he just get a second opinion from a different Doc?

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 15, 2014 -> 10:52 AM) Would Aiken be allowed to sit out next season and then become a free agent? Well once he would become a free agent I don't believe he would have to sign until he wants but him sitting a year would be detrimental to his development.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 15, 2014 -> 10:48 AM) http://www.bleachernation.com/2014/07/15/i...ck-brady-aiken/ This is obviously from a Cubs perspective. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/casey-c...dy-aiken-071414 This one is from Ken Rosenthal. This story is fascinating. Houston is offering just enough to ensure that they will receive the #2 pick next year regardless. The problem is that it screws up their entire draft. If he doesn't sign, I believe that Aiken should go the Independent League route. He could re-enter the draft next year and get his career started. But if he goes the IL route, ends up having TJ during the IL season, his value drops much more. It's risky on both sides, Astros are covering their ass by offering him the mandatory 40%.

Are the Astros really dumb enough to not sign this kid? Man that would be bad.

QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 15, 2014 -> 09:16 AM) I was surprised to see Jose Abreu acting brash and goofy at the Derby. Thought he was a quiet guy, glad to see he can have some fun as well. Idk if it's just me, but seeing this yesterday it was mostly with Cespedes. I think these guys are pretty good friends since Cuba, but it seems like both of them are pretty cold to Puig. Even after Cespedes won, Puig went to congratulate him and gave him a kinda mandatory slight hug. Anyway it's great to see those guys having fun in an event that is made just for that, fun for them and more importantly the fans. (even though yesterday's was pretty damn boring)

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 15, 2014 -> 07:59 AM) So Fox is putting Erin ANdrews on their A Team broadcast and dropping Pam Oliver to the 2nd team. People are crying race or just because Erin is younger and more attractive. I personally think all sideline reporters are mostly worthless anyway. http://awfulannouncing.com/2014/erin-andre...1-nfl-team.html "(losing coach) says team will make adjustments and come out ready for the 2nd half. Meanwhile (winning coach) says his team has played solid (insert def/off) but will have to play better to stay in lead. We'll see how both teams respond this 2nd half, back to you Joe" -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 15, 2014 -> 07:42 AM) "But the game matters!" - Bud Selig No way Jeter gets less than 3 at bats and somehow go 3-3 with a couple doubles.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jul 15, 2014 -> 06:01 AM) Okay...so does anyone else notice something different about the board? Everything is centered. No path of where you are at the top. Or is just me? I literally did not even notice until I read your post and scrolled up. No wonder it felt weird having to click the banner to get back to the homepage.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 14, 2014 -> 09:43 AM) Hinrich better not be getting the BAE. I really want Augustin or Sessions and they need to find a way to get them in at that price. We can't have Kirk as our primary back-up. If the organization hasn't learned that we can't just rely on Rose being healthy, then good grief. I think Augustin is basically a Piston after agreeing to 2yrs/6mil Sessions would be nice pickup tho, along the lines of vet min which is basically all the Bulls can afford now anyway.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 12, 2014 -> 12:38 PM) Lolbulls This is Melo wanting that money at the end of the day. Can't blame him, it was substantially more, but man talk about eating his own words about wanting to win.

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jul 12, 2014 -> 12:36 PM) Let's move on to Lance Stephenson. I don't think there is much of a market for him at this point, so maybe we can sign both him and Gasol and still come away a stronger team. The character issue is there, but perhaps playing with strong character guys like Noah, Jimmy, Rose, Taj and playing for Thibs will set him straight. Thibs alone would put a foot in his ass if he tried the stuff he did last year.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Jul 12, 2014 -> 12:03 PM) Woj reporting it's done. Melo to remain a knick. Keep the money, have fun trying to reach mediocrity in NY!

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 03:05 PM) K.C. Johnson @KCJHoop 46s Tom Thibodeau has pushed hard for Kirk Hinrich's return. GM Gar Forman called re-signing Hinrich "a priority" at season's end. facepalm.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 03:01 PM) @Probballdraft: The Heat will re-sign Dwyane Wade to a max deal, according to a source. No pay cut. Mr. Heat will retire in South Beach. #ClassyOrganization in other words, they're okay with being terrible for the foreseeable future.
