  1. QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 06:36 PM) Springer and Bregman are both protectable 5 WAR players annually. Springer hit 5 WAR last year in his first full season and Bregman nearly hit 2 WAR in 44 games. Sale's highest bWAR season was 6.9. A trade for Sale for those two players alone would be a massive overpay. If it happened, we should all be elated and send Hahn Hersey Kisses, Bubble Bath, Red Wine, and Roses. That seems kinda irrelevant. You think that the WAR for the remainder of the contracts of Andrew Miller, Aroldis Chapman, or Shelby Miller will end up being a wash with the career WAR of the players they got back? It's really easy for us to sit here and say how "projectable" prospects are, but "is" is worth a lot more than "could be". It's the nature of the market. Springer is closer to a "known" than Bregman though. After all, through his first 50 games Gordon Beckham looked like a star in the making.
  2. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 10:31 PM) It's gotten to that point and will stay there until Sunday, IMO. Minor blip due tomorrow around 9:00pm. He's right. It's the lack of any new information that is causing us to talk ourselves in circles.
  3. BBTN just had a segment about Sale and what it would take to get him. Boston - Said Bogaerts and Betts are totally off limits and that Moncada, Benentendi, Kopech, and Swihart was too much. Said Moncada, Kopech, Swihart, and Eduardo Rodriguez was a fair return for the White Sox. Rangers - Said Mazara, Gallo, Profar, and Dillon Tate was too much and that Mazara, Profar OR Gallo, Luis Ortiz, and Dillon Tate was a fair return. I don't think I'm good with either of the "fair" packages. Especially with some of the trades that have already happened in the past couple weeks. Three and a half years of a top 5 pitcher in baseball on an extremely team friendly deal is going to have to be an unprecedented package of talent in return and I'm not seeing that in the afore mentioned proposals.
  4. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 10:16 AM) I don't think many are opposed to RV going but are making the case that it won't make much of a difference. Making the player changes are much more important. you are spending far too much energy and angst on a move that won't make the difference. Channel the energy at the players to improve or for Hahn to improve the roster. Is it though? The whole roster has turned over in the past 3 seasons and we're still having this conversation. How many times do players need to be replaced before the organization looks in the mirror and makes a managerial/coaching/scouting/player development change? The problem seems (at least to me) to be with the organization, because it doesn't seem to matter much which names are on the backs of the jerseys.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 07:30 PM) Greg Walker was the big problem when he was here. Not the players, not anything else. He gets fired, and the offense was fixed. Nope. I.would.rather the Sox do something player wise.it actually produces results. The entire roster has changed since the start of 2013 and the results on the field are alarmingly similar. In fact, the only folks that are still here from 2013 (with very few exceptions) are Robin, Rick, Kenny, and Jerry. It's time to start looking in the mirror because turning over the whole roster didn't do a damn thing.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ May 25, 2016 -> 02:02 PM) If they tank again this year, Ventura/Bell/Steverson have to be fired. I remember thinking that after 2014...
  7. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 25, 2016 -> 01:54 PM) I think there is zero chance that they sell. With the guys they've acquired, they are in now. They'll try to acquire more and make another run next year. Next year's trade deadline could be the start of a rebuild though. Perfect. They'll gut what little is left in the cupboard in an ill-conceived attempt to make the playoffs, fail to reach the post season, and then finally admit defeat over a year from now when Sale and Quintana have wasted the vast majority of their best baseball on garbage squads. Jerry has got to realize at some point that the coaching and development are sub-par at best. Hell, almost the entire roster has changed since the start of the 2013 season and the outcome on the field is the same. At some point, they're gonna have to look in the mirror.
  8. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 18, 2016 -> 08:48 PM) The Cell brings out the worst in the Sox They weren't exactly killing it on the last road trip either...
  9. QUOTE (Dunt @ May 12, 2016 -> 11:42 AM) Anderson 4-4 w/ a HR and a SB. Guys, I think he's getting comfortable. And a walk to boot!
  10. QUOTE (Dunt @ May 12, 2016 -> 12:42 PM) Anderson 4-4 w/ a HR and a SB. Guys, I think he's getting comfortable. He's hitting .341 in his last 10 games (.482 in his last 7!)
  11. QUOTE (Dunt @ May 9, 2016 -> 10:07 AM) If Avi keeps hitting, the only things I want addressed are a #3 RHP and SS I wonder what the cost would be for someone like Zack Cozart?
  12. Matt Davidson is having a really nice spring and it got me thinking. Are there any examples that you guys know of where a prospect was having a really nice minor league career, appeared to have lost it, and was able to turn it around and become a good major leaguer?
  13. KW called out specifically. Told LaRoche not to bring the kid around at all. Not looking awesome for KW, if true.
  14. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 12:29 PM) dan haren ‏@ithrow88 54s54 seconds ago Chris Sale is making me worried that I don't love my son enough. I love that Dan Haren stopped playing baseball and immediately was like "IDGAF anymore"
  15. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 02:31 PM) Do you know what level of interest? Are they wanting him just on a cheap one year deal as a stop gap to Anderson in which he rebuilds value so they can get their comp pick back next year? Or are they still interested if he is looking multi-year? Provided the AAV isn't outlandish, I wouldn't be opposed to a multi-year deal. If Anderson is ready before the end of the deal, which he would most likely be, then Desmond could be a pretty attractive trade piece.
  16. If this truly is coming to an end, I hope that Fowler is not the answer. I'm not interested in the least in giving away a draft pick for him. Or Desmond for that matter.
  17. QUOTE (Kevtrem @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 02:31 PM) RIP our fanbase RIP Rick Hahn at Soxfest. Fans are gonna be out for blood.
  18. QUOTE (TheCut87 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 09:50 AM) Bob nightengale said on mlb network right before I left the house that he expects Cespedes to go to the Nats at they have the best offer out on the table right now....kinda contradicts that NY reporters tweet If the NY reporter is to be believed, the Nats have the only offer on the table at this point.
  19. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 03:44 PM) Sure, but not enough to leave tens of millions dollars on the table. Also, literally every MLB team contains Spanish-speaking players. Totally understand what you are saying about the money. I wouldn't think for a second that he would leave cash behind to play with a buddy. I just know that have a friend on the team can't possibly hurt the Sox chances.
  20. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 03:34 PM) Why does everyone assume that all people from Cuba are friends? I mean, I would say that at the very least they don't dislike each other...
  21. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 02:56 PM) Re: Bowden's report of Sox, Mets and Nats being the finalist. I think the Angels are the Sox biggest competition for Yo. Oh, hell. Is this about to be another Torii Hunter situation?
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 01:57 PM) I guess what I don't understand is the logic that another team signing a player that was a longshot from the get go to be a White Sox totally ends the White Sox pursuit of upgrades. It's really bizarre. It doesn't end the pursuit, just lessens the chances of Cespedes ending up here because all of the suitors for Upton are now going to be looking into Cespedes.
  23. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 09:33 AM) While I sort of agree with the rebuilding, this is Jerry we're talking about. The Sox are not going through a rebuild until Jerry is gone. I know that, but it's just frustrating to watch.
  24. QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 09:37 AM) you make a point, my only response is, the sox stumble onto a group, a core of excellent players that now, they are forced to jump start that clock. thereby making this as a win - win situation ... the win now is now the theme. But if they are going to do it, they need to do it all the way. Having a core of excellent players surrounded by mediocrity isn't "win now". It's just foolish posturing.
  25. QUOTE (Special K @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 09:16 AM) I'd rather have a bad record for 5 years and get better internally than win 81 games for 3-4 years. As far as I'm concerned, there should be no middle ground. Either we're trying to win the division or we should be rebuilding. Not trying to be .500. At least that way, the fans know that the team is going to be bad. Then the front office can stop selling false hope disguised as a baseball team. Personally, I think committing to a rebuild is the right thing to do. If you look around the league at the teams that have done that lately, they have themselves in a position to stay competitive for years to come.
