That's the kind of impact move that we have all been waiting for!
-
The biggest issue that I have had with the Sox through this whole process was that they waited to see if they could get back into it. This is from Fangraphs earlier today: "You have to go all the way back to the 1998 Twins (-4.7) to find a worse group of position players by WAR and those Twins have about 3,000 plate appearances on the 2015 White Sox. Only the 1998 Twins, 1963 Mets, 1977 Braves, and 1979 A’s have had lower position player WAR than this year’s White Sox. And only the 1979 A’s, at -9.7 WAR, are far enough ahead (behind?) to feel comfortable the White Sox won’t catch them come October." When you are the 5th worst team since 1963, there is no "wait and see" approach at that point. You're a seller.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 12:10 PM) Technically they don't need Barnes. They have an all star catcher who is still young (Grandal). I don't know if they trade Barnes for a rental, but it isn't like we are talking about a top 50 prospect. That was sorta the way I was looking at it too. The reason I mentioned Barnes and Schebler was because neither has been labeled as untouchable by the organization, both are blocked, and both can help out the Sox really soon.
-
I'm not certain exactly what the Dodgers needs are at this point, but what would the Sox have to include with Samardzija for the Dodgers to part with Barnes and Schebler?
-
Trade Alexei and John Danks for salary relief plus maybe a couple lottery ticket prospects, then either trade Samardzija for a good prospect or give him a QO in the offseason and take the comp pick (whichever looks better). DFA Bonifacio. Call up Erik Johnson and Noesi to fill out the rotation, let Beckham man SS, bring Trayce Thompson up to be a 4th OF. Play young guys the rest of the season, be bad, get another high draft pick. Let KW go take over another franchise. Fire Robin. Fire Steverson. Fire Bell. Spend as much as necessary to bring in a coaching staff that will preach fundamentals and defense and something that resembles a prepared approach at the plate.

Bravo! Well written and it eloquently states the way that many of us already feel. Continuing to spend on FA talent or trading for prospects does nothing if, once they arrive, they are in a poorly run system. Large scale changes need to take place in nearly every facet of the organization. Pitching coaching and development seems to be about the only thing the organization does well.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 11:14 AM) Matt Spiegel has been proposing a Puig for Quintana deal all morning. Matt Spiegel @MattSpiegel670 12m12 minutes ago Avisail Garcia and Jose Quintana for Yasiel Puig. Who says no? I love Quintana but Puig is the type of talent I'd ideally want in return for him. Supposedly, Abreu and Puig don't get along. Thoughts, everyone? I can't see Quintana being moved for anything unless the Sox have already signed Samardzija to an extension. Can't afford to potentially lose 2 of your top 3 pitchers in less than 6 months.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 10:51 PM) Davidson. Let's see if he can hit MLB. Or Thompson. Let's see if he can hit MLB pitching. That's a horrible idea. Davidson can't hit AAA pitching, what would make anyone think he could succeed against better competition?

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 01:04 AM) I know how much you guys love Bleacher Report but they recently listed each teams mostly likely to move prospect so I'll give a recap. Orioles : Chance Sisco ,20 yrs old, Catcher ,currently playing at High A. LH Cubs: Javier Baez , 22 ,SS and 2nd base ,AAA having a good season there. Huge power. RH Astros: Domingo Santana , 22 ,OF , AAA having a very good season .Nice power , good walk rate, RH Angels : Nick Tropeano ,24 ,Pitcher ,AAA ,RH Dodgers : Jose DeLeon, 22, A+/AA Pitcher ,RH Mets: Marcus Molina 20 , Pitcher, A+ , RH Yankees: 22 , 1B , AA/AAA LH Pirates Alen Hanson, 22 ,Middle Inf. , AAA ,Very fast ,high MiL BA , decent power, strong arm Giants : Kyle Crick ,22 ,Pitcher ,AA, RH 6'4" 220 ,hard thrower These are just some of the names I thought were interesting. Puposely didnt include teams in the Sox division. Just don't see them trading inter -divisionally. Out of that group, I would like Baez, Santana, Hanson, and Crick. That's not to say that I dislike any of the other guys on the list, but those were the ones that caught my eye.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 01:17 PM) Why would these change year to year? Because they base them on the amount of offense produced in a given park in a given season. It's The Cell dropping is 100% a function of the offense being awful and pitching being pretty good.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 11:39 AM) I disagree and think they will have to start from scratch to fix this. Or at least something very close to doing so. I'm not opposed to trading a couple of guys to try to bring more talent into the minors, but that has to be done in conjunction with replacing the player development staff. No point in bringing new talent into a system that isn't going to teach that talent the right way to play the game.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 08:24 AM) Except for JR That's part of the problem. JR is loyal to a fault.

I don't think that a complete teardown is the answer. I think that the more pressing issue is getting a coaching and development staff that will actually coach and develop players. If you look around this team (with the exception of a couple of guys), there is a lot of talent in place. Guys that have either had a good deal of success at the major league level (Samardzija, Melky, Alexei) or have had a great deal of success in the minors (Eaton, Avi). This team came out of spring training looking like they hadn't worked on anything at all and things haven't gotten any better. Maybe its just me, but I think that rather than trading away the whole team and starting over, they should keep a lot of the players that are on the roster and spend the offseason getting rid of KW and replacing Robin, Steverson, Vince Coleman, and Buddy Bell. Just one man's opinion.
-
We can trade away major leaguers for prospects as often as we want to, but if you are bringing those prospects into an organization that isn't teaching them to play baseball the right way, they aren't going to amount to anything. Short of a massive overhaul of the coaching and development staff and a return to solid fundamental baseball (including defense and baserunning as well), I don't see anything changing for the Sox anytime soon.
-
What does it say about the organization as a whole when there aren't any players that are even close to breaking into the 2nd worst offense in the league? From a hitting standpoint, the organization basically needs rebuilt from the top down. Anyone that currently has anything to do with hitting instruction should most likely be replaced. I'm sure this sounds pretty "sky is falling" of me, but this is a big problem. It is a sad state of affairs when you have to go back nearly a decade to find a hitter that was groomed by this organization that made it to the majors, stayed in the majors, and made an impact while he was with the team.

QUOTE (kapzk @ May 19, 2015 -> 12:53 PM) When's the firesale starting? I heard Boston might be interested in trading for Chris Sale

Has Rock or Bucket been around with any insight on who the Sox are looking at?

QUOTE (chw42 @ May 17, 2015 -> 05:20 PM) What a series for Garcia as well. He's looked like Miguel Cabrera the past two games. He looks like Miguel Cabrera every game. Hahahaha

4/30: White Sox at Twins, no crowd due to Age of Ultron

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 30, 2015 -> 07:52 PM) You said thie Sox are the worst by far. How is a new manager goimg to make a difference? Would Sale not give up hits? Would SamArdjiza not give up runs in Baltimore because the manager is different? By that rationale, there isn't anything that RV could get fired for because he's not the one on the field doing it. He makes bad decisions and the total lack of fundamentals has to belong to someone. RV is that someone. -

QUOTE (Condor13 @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 02:30 PM) It will still be better then .196 0 hr 4 rbi Will it though? Taking a guy that struggles to hit in AAA and putting him in to face much better pitchers has rarely yielded positive results. -

QUOTE (kapzk @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 01:29 PM) How about an Abreu blast? I'd be ok with anybody just getting a hit at the moment. Beggars can't be choosers.
