QUOTE (southside hitman @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 08:58 AM) Danny Knobler @DannyKnobler 7m One scout after watching East Carolina’s Jeff Hoffman: “This guy has to be Justin Verlander’s brother.” Cubs execs were in to see him. If Hoffman's soreness is truly just soreness, similar to what Chris Sale is experiencing, I don't think it effects his stock too much. With Rodon seemingly back in 1-1 form, I expect him to go first or second, giving us a choice between either Aiken/Kolek or Hoffman. Assuming Hoffman's injury is nothing that would linger, I like him over Kolek. Aiken is still my #1 overall, but I don't think he falls to us. I agree with your assessment. My preference list at the moment would be: 1. Aiken 2. Rodon (depending on his cost) 3. Hoffman 4. Kolek

QUOTE (hi8is @ Apr 25, 2014 -> 01:05 AM) If we get Turner with the second pick... wow. This. 100%. Guys like Turner and Gatewood that the Sox were linked to as potential first round targets a couple months ago are now being talked about as fringe first rounders or borderline second rounders and I'm starting to think there is a real shot that the Sox could wind up with Hoffman or Rodon AND Turner or Gatewood. That would be a slam dunk draft IMO.

QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Apr 22, 2014 -> 04:50 PM) I hate to say it but we need another ace type potential pitcher in case sale gets hurt You can't draft on the assumption that a player will be hurt at some point. Draft the best player available. Now, in this case, it would appear that an ace type of pitcher will be the BPA when the Sox are on the clock, but you can't draft a certain player because he would be a good replacement for someone if they get injured down the road.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Apr 22, 2014 -> 12:12 AM) Is it tomorrow? It is. Slight change of plans. Hooray for Draft Day (the day, not the movie.)

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 18, 2014 -> 11:31 AM) If the 1-1 and 1-2 went Rodon and Kolek, who would people want at 3 - Aiken or Hoffman? That's really tough. I personally would prefer Aiken, but I think the Sox prefer Hoffman because he will be ready to help the big league club sooner than Aiken would.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 8, 2014 -> 11:30 PM) If you can get your guy who you have projected at 1-2 and pick him at 3 and sign him underslot....that's one thing, if he was the player you wanted all along. If he's a kid that should be 7-10 but the White Sox aren't picking him as the best player but the easiest sign (in order to spread that money around), then I would totally disagree with that strategy with a Top 5 pick. I think that there are enough high ceiling arms in the top 5-6 picks that the Sox will be able to find someone that is willing to sign at or below slot that will allow them to have a strong rest of the draft. They all know how important this draft is toward getting the organization back on the right track and they are going to do all they can to make sure they do just that.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 8, 2014 -> 02:11 PM) Comps are made so you can get an idea of what kind of player could a prospect poetentially develop into. Wil Myers is another that has been thrown around I read someone say that Jackson should play third, if that's the case then why did the team trade for Davidson, if the White Sox draft Jackson they need to put him in RF and just let him focus on his bat which is elite. But Sox brass have already stated that they plan on going after pitching and that they are prioritizing college pitchers.
-
I think they are getting better at developing hitters, but they aren't even close to being good at it yet.
-
Based on all that we have seen in the past couple weeks, it seems like Hoffman or Beede will be the guy. Still a lot of time before a decision is made, but thats the feeling I get.
-
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 10:09 PM) Throw out the college stats. You scout on what can be. Hoffman has the most upside. Verlander & Wainwright are legit comps. He's a stellar athlete with velo, body and feel. Flashes 70FB/60CB/55CH already. Lauman has been all over him since before the cape. So...plan on the Sox taking Hoffman?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 11:49 AM) What major league comps are being made with/about Hoffman? The only ones I have seen seem to suggest Verlander and/or Wainwright and pro comps for Hoffman

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 01:31 PM) That site doesn't seem real legit. When I go there it takes me to a GoDaddy page that says I can buy the domain. That's my bad. It's actually DCProSportsReport.com. Hahahaha

Maybe we should wait until mid May until we start worrying about attendance numbers...
-
DCProSports.com has a few new mocks posted. One has us taking Beede, one Jackson, one Aiken, and one has us taking Nick Gordon.

Day 1 is Round 1, Compensation A, Competitive Balance A, Round 2, and Competitive Balance B. Day 2 is Rounds 3-10 Day 3 is Rounds 11-40

Konerko wants no special treatment, start on O.D.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Mar 31, 2014 -> 07:33 AM) Jeter shouldn't even get the attention Jeter is going to get. *Applause* -
The concern with him isn't whether or not the Sox could clean up his mechanics and make him a great pitcher though, he is still going to want 1-1 money and if he doesn't get it he can still go back to school. I don't want to see them end up not signing a first rounder at all.
-
I get what bucket is saying though. If they think they know something that they can tweak in his delivery that will make him the most dominant pitcher in the draft, they will take him regardless of his stats.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Mar 29, 2014 -> 08:02 AM) This alleged "deep draft" doesn't appear to contain a true potential "Ace" pitcher, at least not from the early season performances. It had seemed that the Sox would have almost a guarantee to get a great pitcher, drafting third. I was hoping for a right handed, top of the rotation arm, to compliment Sale. The way it's been going, I'm not sure that any of these pitchers are worthy of a #1. Now that Rodon has come back to the pack, Kolek and Aiken seem like the only ones with true Ace potential, and the Sox don't appear to be inclined to draft a high school arm. If the top two picks are pitchers, and the Sox are left to select the best of the remaining arms, might they be better off going with the best position player in this year's draft? I really don't think so. They have been so good at developing pitchers lately and so miserable at developing anyone who can actually hit, that I can't see them using the pick on anything other than an arm. At this point I'm just hoping they grab one of Rodon, Beede, or Aiken. Those are the 3 guys that I'm watching and even if Rodon falls that far I don't think he'll take less than 1-1 money, so Beede and Aiken it is!
-
IIRC, I don't think he has ever had outstanding numbers outside of the Cape Cod League last year.
-
I pray that Gettys is gone by the time the Sox have their second pick. Seems like he could wind up being another Mitchell or Thompson to me. The Sox have plenty of high ceiling athletic outfielders that "just need to put it all together". I'd like to see them take Jakson Reetz in the 2nd.
-
QUOTE (southside hitman @ Mar 25, 2014 -> 01:42 PM) Would you take Aiken over Rodon at this point? That's tough. I think Rodon is more of a sure thing because he is so much more physically mature and since it (presumably) won't take him as long to make it to the majors. So, yeah Rodon over Aiken.
-
There is still plenty of time for things to change, but I think I would rather see them take Aiken than Hoffman at this point. Hoffman just hasn't been very impressive so far this year. But maybe the Sox have already identified a tweak to his delivery that would take him to the next level.
-
Has anyone heard anything about which way the Astros or Marlins are leaning? Last I read (a couple weeks ago) was that Houston was enamored with Rodon and that Miami had been linked to Kolek.
-
How quickly do we think Aiken could move through the system? I know that they are looking for an arm they can pair with Sale, but would Aiken be in the bigs soon enough to be that guy? I really like what Aiken has to offer but I think the timeline could be slower than the Sox are looking for.
