So many here treat baseball like football
oneofthemikes replied to Look at Ray Ray Run's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That'd be pretty remarkable from the top of the 9th lol -
3 up with 10 to play and we’re about to finish 3rd in the Central again

Don't like that at all. Big league clubs changing the things that made pitchers successful in the minors is exactly how Washington derailed Giolito. The answer to everything isn't "ditch the breaking stuff and throw cutters".

9/22 - White Sox @ Cleveland: Lopez vs Quantrill
oneofthemikes replied to Kyyle23's topic in 2020 Season in Review
Looking at his Cuban and Minor League stats, this is basically the first time in his life that he has been challenged in the game of baseball and it's taking a toll on him. He's been the best player on the field in a majority of the games he has ever played and now he's struggling and it's up to him to adjust. He'll get there, sooner than later, and when he does it'll be really special to watch. -

I'm not crazy about the rule either. MLB is trying to speed up games because no one has an attention span anymore, but I think I'd prefer it if it were set up as a progression. Something like: 10th & 11th inning - Runner on 1st 12th inning and beyond - Runner on 2nd It still allows scoring to be easier than normal, but it makes it a bit tougher than it is today. It's a little more like college football overtime, scoring becomes a bit easier early in the overtime periods but once they get to 5 overtimes teams have to start going for 2. -

I'm well aware of the content in that article, the podcast that I quoted above was specifically in reference to the Sox increased use of analytics and how the Sox as a whole are becoming more analytically minded. I'm not suggesting that no one in the organization knows how to apply it, but Coop specifically when he was asked about it couldn't even cobble together a few syllables about what it is. That's not a very good look from the pitching coach during an interview about pitching analytics. -
I understand your point and agree when it comes to EE (I wasn't a huge fan of the EE signing from the start). But when Grandal is widely considered one of the top catchers in the game at the time of his acquisition and then he fails to perform, how is that on Rick?

Then Coop needs to ride off into the sunset. If he can't get on board with the current analytics of baseball, he's a dinosaur and needs to be replaced. I soured on Coop back in January when he was on the White Sox Talk podcast with Chuck. They were talking about analytics and some of the tools at the Sox disposal and Rapsodo came up. Chuck interjected and said "...you mentioned Rapsodo. For those people who don't know, can you explain it?" and Coop responded, "No, let them go figure that out...that's not worth my time". Some people may just shrug that off, but it sounded to me like he doesn't fully understand how to implement it. -
I'm not sure how FAs coming to the Sox and sucking is Hahn's fault though. I mean, it's not like he took a wild flyer on some guys from the scrap heap hoping that they might turn into something. He gave contracts to talented, established, veteran players, and those players have underperformed. That speaks more to a coaching and player development issue than a GM issue.

The way they’re playing lately, the playoffs aren’t gonna last long. Lots of really sloppy play right now -

He's at the top of my wishlist for this offseason. Analytically-minded pitcher, plays with a ton of swagger, TOR type of stuff. -
Imagine posting this (and meaning it) back at the beginning of February

*Checks notes* Yep, the favorite to win the AL Cy Young still pitches for Cleveland. -

Why switch up catching assignment for Dunning now? -
I have to assume that the team drafted him with him being a starter in mind. I'd bet that he follows the Sale path and pitches out of the bullpen next season and then transitions to being a starter in 2022.

Good Lord this is a dumb argument. He, with the blessing of the White Sox and MLB, opted out of a season that saw many players do the same. Whether that was due to concerns about COVID, anxiety about having a baby, or depression over going through a divorce (or any combination thereof) is not the business of anyone on this board. Provided he comes back and is physically prepared to compete, I highly doubt that his teammates are going to feel anything toward him other than the excitement of adding another dynamic talent to a team that just made the playoffs for the first time in 12 years.

By height.

What a pitiful way to wrap a promising inning. Twins are fired up and the Sox are shrinking in the biggest games of the season.
-
Fuck.
-
Jesus. What a disaster that is
-
With a lineup the caliber of the Sox it's actually really hard for everyone to go cold at the same time, but they have found a way...
-
Yeah, everything about this. Probably won't happen, but it's a fantastic compromise of the recent past and the current setup.
