What would it take to get Noah Syndergaard?
oneofthemikes replied to KnightsOnMintSt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I actually still like the idea of trying to add him as a FA after the 2021 season. Plus, his cost probably just came down a decent amount. -
4 since 1990 with Frank.

My first thought was that they could just be maxed out for this year. They have played this game in the past where they'll spend if the fans show up at the park. So, for right now, it's on the fans to support the product as it exists today with the thought being that the additional income will be put on the field.

Anybody happen to see the post on Luis' insta of him and Micker together? Everybody already knows that Luis is built like an Under Armour mannequin but Micker is a freakin tank (he's a bit closer to the camera than Luis, but still). Hoping for a BIG breakout from both this season.

Tatis was #6 on the SS list and he didn't play at all in 2018 and only played half of 2019...

Is Mookie Betts a real option for the Sox with payroll history??

It's been more than 4 hours and it still hasn't gone away. Should I call my doctor? -
Does anyone have a baseballamerica account? They released their Top 100 prospects article the other day and it sounds like there was a pretty glowing write up on Robert.

Absolutely. I just think that between the improvements that the Sox have made and the (presumed) health improvements from the Indians, the Twins should come back to earth a bit. Just for fun, I looked up the Twins projected record for 2019 and I saw win totals of anywhere from 81-87. They way outperformed their expectations last year.
-
That’s an awful lot of question marks for one lineup. Don’t get me wrong, I still think the Twins will mash but when you find yourself asking whether 5 different guys can repeat last year’s historically great performances, the answer is probably no.

Hahn is getting all the praise, Theo no longer "Sainted"

2020 Projection for Moncada from Brooks Baseball/Roto

This is basically where I'm at with Madrigal. I know that HRs are sexy and have become the only thing anyone wants to see but Nick is absolutely the type of player that this team needs right now. We have several elite, explosive talents at other positions around the diamond. We could use a guy like him. -
How good do YOU think we can be next season?
oneofthemikes replied to SonofaRoache's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Twins absolutely FEASTED on the Sox last year (playing the Tigers and Royals 38 times didn't hurt either). The Sox went 6-13 against the Twins last season. It's not a stretch to think that the Sox could gain 8 games on the Twins by simply starting guys that belong in the MLB. -
Sox acquire Nomar Mazara for Steele Walker
oneofthemikes replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Maybe Texas wanted to balance out their lineup. Maybe they were frustrated that he hadn't lived up to his billing as a top prospect. Maybe they were really enamored with the marketing potential of Walker, Texas Ranger. Who knows. I just hope that the Sox saw something in him that they think can they tap into and have a Carlos Quentin style breakout. -

I'm a big fan of this idea -

So I know that offense was up all around the league last year and he didn’t progress as Texas had hoped, but why is everyone so down on Mazara? He’s still young and he had a high ceiling as a prospect. That must have been based on something, right? I know a lot of people around here wanted Ozuna but if you look at Ozuna’s numbers his first 4 years in the league, they’re almost identical to Mazara’s first 4 years. Ozuna blossomed under Menechino. Maybe Frank sees something in him that he can tap into. just trying to see the bright side. -
Free Agent relief pitcher ideas besides Betances
oneofthemikes replied to knightni's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Are there any top flight relievers that could be available in a reasonable trade? Maybe from Pittsburgh? -
Does anyone have any insight as to what we may have in him? I know that there were a few guys in Miami that really blossomed under him, but does anybody know how it impacted things like walk and strikeout rate?
-
A couple pages ago somebody said that they were excited at the possibility of Encarnacion working with Mazara on his launch angle. Do we have any reason to think that’s the case? I mean, it’d be awesome but does he have any history of actively being a mentor to younger guys? Have other teams that he’s been on shown launch angle improvements as a result of his being there? Just curious.

My expectations for this season were never World Series related. I just wanted to compete for the Central. Meaningful baseball in September would be a refreshing change of pace. My thought was Division in 2020 and truly compete for it all in 2021-2024 (give or take).

I’m confused. We’re we ever officially in on Rendon? People are acting like this is Machado 2.0 and I don’t remember seeing anything that ever tied us to him.

I started digging around a bit looking at the early career of Marcell Ozuna and Nomar Mazara (the hope being that maybe Menechino can help Mazara the way he did in the 5th year of Ozuna's career). Can someone smarter than me explain why the WAR values (specifically oWAR) are so much different between Ozuna's 2014 and Mazara's 2019? 2014 Ozuna (3.5 oWAR) - 269/317/455 with 23 HR and 41 BB 2019 Mazara (1.0 oWAR) - 268/318/469 with 19 HR and 28 BB (24 HR and 36 BB over a full season) What am I missing? Sorry to derail the conversation, but it bothered me -
Gotta wait for the annual breakdown but unless that contract is HEAVILY front-loaded, that deal is gonna be really gross in the last few years. 38-year-olds don't tend to be worth $35M/yr.
