QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 06:02 PM) Which is funny, because it's ultimately three small/mid market teams after him. I'll give Hahn credit, the Brewers & Rockies probably weren't willing to commit the prospect capital this offseason to add a guy like Quintana. Their fast starts and open paths to the playoffs have made them buyers. The Braves have obviously been interested for a while, but hopefully having a few other teams in the mix pushes them to offer something that we'd actually consider. Really surprised the Yankees are sitting on the sidelines for now if the rumors are true. This is getting really exciting and I'm starting to think the Rockies are the team that lands him. He looked incredible in Coors last week, the Rockies desperately need a starter who has the stamina to pitch deep into October, and their front office is a little bit crazy. With a couple key guys only under control for another year or two (Blackmon & Arenado), it's really now or never for them to make a big move with this core. Would have to imagine the Sox are would insist on Rodgers be including in any potential quintana deal. Brinson for the Brewers and Acuna/Albie's/maitan for the braves

QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 04:45 PM) He was saying one of those big three plus other secondary pieces - not all three. His use of / was denoting "or". Exactly^^^

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 04:41 PM) The BEST you can hope for there is 2 out of 3. My guess is one of Albies/Acuna is the other limitation. Two out of Maitan/Acuna/Albies? I would drive Quintana to Atlanta myself if we could land two out of those guys. Sox getting one of to headline a package of prospects would be compelling.
-
QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 04:35 PM) He also said: "Braves hesitant to part with Maitan, Acuna or Albies, though. Especially the latter as those two should be up at some point in 2018. One more note here: Braves would be most likely to part with Albies as Phillps and Camargo can both play 2B through 2017 and into 2018. And if the Braves trade Albies, it means they could be looking at Demeritte as the long-term option at 2B instead." Braves are so deep that they could definitely form an attractive trade package for Quintana and not be all that damaged as a result. Albies/Acuna/Maitan + two or three more prospects would be very attractive

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 04:26 PM) He didn't mash in the minors anything like he's mashed to this point in the majors. "Scott Carasik @CarasikS Follow More Braves are pushing hard for Quintana from the White Sox. Large package of prospects looking like what gets deal done.WS want a top 3 org bat" No source attached, but this is certainly a very interesting development if true...

QUOTE (Username @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 04:17 PM) Man this Q suspense is killing me. Felt like something was brewing with that weird Twins rumor (seems like a leverage leak) and all the talk about the Sox "outrageous asking price" (more posturing). Then the McGuffey rumor, plus rabbit's statements (here and Twitter), plus WSD putting me on high alert. Sox not announcing starters post-ASB yet isn't helping either. Anybody think there's any credence to the "no serious news announced on the day of the All Star game" theory? Would seem like an odd reason to hold off. Certainly smoke like there has not been for a long time coming today. Keep an eye on what national media guys like Rosenthal are saying. When they start to run with Q smoke then you know things are really heating up. Tomorrow could be a major news day if a deal gets done. Would be seen as very bad form to overshadow the all star game by announcing a major trade.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 04:15 PM) 1. Are you that high on Corey Ray? 2. Rogers has been on DL, but he played well in Futures Game. I imagine he is still ahead of McMahon in prospect pecking order. I was suggesting that I would be fairly disappointed if those players were headliners I am not all that high on Ray, as I think he has yet to prove much in the minors so far. Rodgers might be deemed untouchable by the Rockies at this point, remains to be seen.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 03:56 PM) Even with major regression, Judge will still likely be a very good player. A 200 wRC+ is obviously not going to continue, but a 130-135 wRC+ is quite reasonable and everyone would still be very happy about that production. Judge likely settles in as being around a .260 - .350 - .525 hitter wRC+ 130 That is still a very good player, but not a total freak like we have seen in the first half.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 03:42 PM) Judge is a great story, but at some point he's gonna cool off. I kind of doubt he suddenly turned into one of the more prolific power hitters on this side of the steroid era. There is no way Judge keeps up his .426 BABIP and a 41% HR/FB ratio. I think he is due for major regression. He still could end up being a very good player, but ZIPS/Steamer/Depth Charts all predict him to fall off in the second half.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 02:25 PM) Not disagreeing but it's also possible they were offered something good but KW gonna KW. Hindsight is always 20/20 I admittedly was very against Aaron Judge being a big part of a potential Q/Sale trade package because I was scared about him making enough contact vs. mlb pitching...I was very wrong.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 02:08 PM) We traded for Frazier after the 2015 season, when Samardzija was gone My bad, you are correct. I think it took a crappy 2016 for Hahn to convince KW and Jerry that rebuilding was in the Sox best interest. Cleveland is the class of the division right now and the Sox are not built to compete with the current roster.
-
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 02:00 PM) I believe Sox were over .500 on draft day last year. Sox were. Burdi was sold to Sox fans as a potential guy who could assist a mlb playoff bullpen by August or September of 2016. I can't really blame the Sox for not wanting to deal Shark at the deadline in 2015. They had just traded to bring in Frazier and wanted to go for it, however ill advised. The mentality really changed by the end of 2016, which led to them dealing Sale/Eaton and now likely Robertson/Quintana/etc to rebuild.
-
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 01:53 PM) If they knew they were going to be rebuilding, I think it's certain they wouldn't have picked Burdi. Regardless of who they picked, they knew that Samardzija would get them a compensation draft pick at the end of the first round (under the old rules) Any deadline deal would have to bring back more value than the #26 overall draft pick + additional bonus pool money would.
-
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 01:45 PM) Perhaps . Unfortunately that's all I can say. It likely was a tough discussion between dealing Samardiza and going for it, knowing that the Sox could gain a late first round draft pick if he left in free agency. Anything they traded two months of Samardzija for would have had to be appreciably better than the value of the #26 overall pick (and larger bonus pool) that they used on Zack Burdi.
-
QUOTE (FT35 @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 01:43 PM) They're kind of dangling in the standings now too... True. Quintana is not going to get traded to the Cubs. The deal is too high profile for each club to get past. Plus I don't think the Sox are very keen on helping the Cubs compete. A smaller deal between the Sox and Cubs? Sure. I highly doubt they even get a blockbuster like Quintana done though.
-
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 01:38 PM) There is a rental from the past couple seasons who had value. The White Sox had a great offer. KW said no to moving him. He wanted to try and compete. For Samardzija? Or?
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 01:06 PM) I did think it would be quite funny if the Sox took Torres, Fowler and Kaprielian and let Herm work his magic Way too risky to take on three significantly injured players and pray that works out for the White Sox.

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 12:53 PM) I can't imagine anything happens today with the all-star game. MLB wouldn't be happy to have it overshadowed. If anything happens, tomorrow would likely be the earliest, or I guess late tonight. All it would take for the pot to stir is for one contender to increase their offer to get things really moving. Quintana being under 3+seasons of control makes it much easier to part with prospects than for just a rental. In some regards, Quintana is the domino that needs to fall before the rest of the trade market heats up.
-
QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 12:47 PM) Would something big actually happen on the day of the AS game? Pot is stirring it seems

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 12:41 PM) Moncada wasn't on the table until hours before the Sox traded Sale and RH told Dombrowski, Sale was going. As soon as he can tell these teams it's happening, their best offer will then be known. The more the merrier. Exactly. When Hahn returns phone calls and said that Quintana is being traded soon and to get your final offers in is when we see the "heavy names". Teams will not show their cards until the pressure is on. Exactly like you said, Moncada was not on the table until Hahn called Dombrowski and informed him about the Nationals Robles + Giolito/Lopez centric deal. Boston then upped the offer to include Moncada and got a deal done.
-
QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 12:29 PM) The way you state those team names - with authority - it seems like you've got an inside track here. Couple that with the continued, "disappointed" references... I've got to ask: Do you know of any of the packages being discussed / offered / countered at this stage? For me to be overtly disappointed the Sox would have to settle for a package significantly less than Sale/Eaton A Rutherford headlined deal from the Yankees would quality A Fisher headlined deal from the Astros A Ray headlined deal from the Brewers A McMahon headlined deal from the Rockies Essentially a deal where we accept a team's second tier guys and allow the buyer to keep the truly elite prospects off the table would be disappointing.
-
QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 11:58 AM) Brian Bilek @BrianBilek_ now I was told earlier this week Milwaukee, New York and Colorado were leading the way on Q but nobody came forward with the "heavy names" yet. Yes please

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 11:06 AM) Who the hell is Ryan McGuffey lol I'll buy into the Quintana smoke when the National guys start to tweet about it Although, enough ground work has been laid that a deal could come together pretty quickly
-
QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 11:02 AM) Ryan McGuffey @RyanMcGuffey 17s17 seconds ago More While in Miami, was told from strong source that 100 percent, Jose Quintana gets dealt & maybe 'sooner than you think'. #WhiteSox Perhaps, but unless a contender significantly ups the trade package offer I do not feel like any deal appears to be close. Hahn and Co. should have a very good idea of what his trade value is and if a trade package is the right move to make. We very well could be seeing Quintana's market heating up as teams realize the Sox are serious about moving him. Time to get offers in.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 10:06 AM) At a minimum the White Sox are looking to trade Melky Frazier Swarzak Pelfrey Holland Gonzalez We also know that the rest of MLB really wants Q and Robertson at the very least. Teams have also asked about Abreu for sure. That is nine different players right there. I don't see the Sox getting all that much for the above players, outside of Quintana/Robertson. Melky and Frazier just do not have much value, with the slight edge going to Frazier in value. Pelfrey/Holland/Gonzalez are pretty much worthless via trade Swarzak might get you a piece like Duke did last year, or be a throw in as a part of a larger deal.
