  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2017 -> 09:46 AM) Same here. Has Collin's bat underperformed our expectations so far? Yes, but that does not mean that it will not come around eventually. We need to be patient and let our prospects go through struggles and develop.
  2. QUOTE (ChiSox1917 @ Jul 3, 2017 -> 11:17 PM) I'm wondering if part of Collins issues this year is his patience. He's around a 4.25 pitches per plate appearance, which if he was in the majors would be one of the highest in the league. A patient hitter is great, but if he's letting hittable pitches go by and then striking out, it could be an issue. Wonder if they may want to try to get him to be a bit more aggressive earlier in counts to help him out of his slump. Honestly, I think at this point that the best case scenario for Collins is he becomes comparable to Mike Napoli. Napoli's also another guy that is incredibly patient at the plate, who sees a ton of pitches per plate appearance. Mike Napoli was a damn fine player for a long time. I'd be thrilled if Collins were as good as him.
  3. QUOTE (striker @ Jul 5, 2017 -> 08:35 AM) Groome is healthy again for the Red Sox. I still see them as a possibility for Q. Devers would be a great headliner in a deal with Groome being the second piece. Doubtful the Red Sox gut their system even more by dealing Devers and Groome. The issue with Devers and Chavis is that neither is currently a very good defensive player, with each having committed 12 errors in 60 games this season. That is not going to cut it at the mlb level.
  4. QUOTE (striker @ Jul 5, 2017 -> 08:39 AM) On the CSN WhiteSoxTalk podcast, Nightengale from USA Today predicted Robertson going to the Red Sox. Groome is healthy now. He'd be a nice get in a Robertson deal. Groome + Chavis. No way the Red Sox give up Groome and Chavis for Robertson. Chavis is arguably having the best season of any player in the minors, at least with the bat.
  5. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 5, 2017 -> 08:37 AM) I think we'll be positively surprised by the Frazier return. It won't be headlined by a current top 100 prospect type, but either a prospect in the back half of an org's top 10 or a guy who was previously well regarded but has fall out of favor. I think we'll also get a lottery ticket too. Melky will not return much. I think even just salary relief would be a win with him. Frazier quietly has the 12th best overall WAR of any mlb starting third baseman at 1.7. He's striking out less and drawing more walks than before, and has put up his best numbers since June 1st. We have to hope that he has helped his value due to good performance.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2017 -> 12:31 AM) http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...=&players=0 Still 21st in fWAR, last debacle including two runs on the Lucroy blooper against Swarzak didn't hurt him that much. 4.07 fip, 4.21 xfip For the moment, no way the Royals trade everyone just 1 1/2 gb and tied with the Twins....so Vargas and Moustakas and Herrera being unavailable helps Q, Frazier and Robertson to a large extent. Shark is expensive and more of a 3 than a 2, at his best. The wild card here continues to be Yu Darvish as an impending FA, and Verlander for rich teams who'd rather take on a big contract than lose top prospects. It is reported that the Tigers want top prospects and to dump Verlander's salary as well.
  7. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 1, 2017 -> 10:07 PM) His ability to take walks is a major, plus-plus tool that ought not be ignored. His ability to draw walks is a good thing, no doubt. It remains to be seen how well that translates vs more advanced pitching in the upper minors though? He is going to have to hit better than .200 to be any sort of MLB factor
  8. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 1, 2017 -> 01:39 PM) I'm with you...he sounds like a DH, but Fathom seems to think his bat is so good that he's still worth it. Calhoun likely ends up as bat first left fielder.
  9. QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Jul 1, 2017 -> 02:06 PM) Yeah but you also dont want to stretch out starters when you have a big lead because your pen sucks. You also don't want to screw up team morale. If you did your job well at work but a few coworkers kept screw up so the projects fail at the end you'd be pissed. It's only human nature to get frustrated when others blow your great work time and time again. It's only a matter of time before that locker room starts to breakdown. They will stand pat until the deadline and then make a move that comes at the most reasonable cost to their organization. Why surrender a to prospect now when you can wait and see what might be on the market in a few weeks?
  10. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 10:23 AM) The Nats might have to make a trade for a MI now like Cozart. He could hold down SS until Turner comes back and then he can be on the bench/Turner can move back to the OF. Can see maybe a Lowrie + Madson move as one of their moves for a RP. And then pursue a Robertson deal. Probably would still have to add another arm even after those 2 moves. With the cushion of 9.5 games in the nl east the nats do not have to rush a move. They certainly will need to upgrade the bullpen via trade by the deadline though. Their mindset is why buy now when there might be more options in a month?
  11. QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 09:48 AM) Fowler, Andujar, Adams plus one more was what I want from Yankees for Q. All three 22 and in bigs or at AAA make them more appealing to me than a slightly higher ranked prospect who may be struggling at the A levels. Players that far away have higher injury/bust risk and even though they may have a higher ceiling, I would want more due to the risk. Nothing against any of those prospects, but I'd want more of 1-2 true blue chip prospects if I am dealing Quintana. Fowler/Andujar/Adams likely would land a team Gray, but it feels light for Quintana.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 12:31 AM) Scott Merkin‏Verified account @scottmerkin 49m49 minutes ago Garcia said he feels ok. Is getting an MRI in the morning just to be sure Him even getting a precautionary MRI is not good news at all. Where there is smoke, there is fire. Lets all hope he's going to be ok.
  13. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 05:26 PM) That information is coming from the Braves side though. I think what this tells us is that the Braves are interested, but haven't made an offer that is close to what we all assume Hahn is asking in return. Sox are unlikely to accept a pitching package like that. I think it ends up being a combination of pitching and position players that eventually get a deal done.
  14. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 05:35 PM) I hope you are right but I don't agree. Comparing him to Sale( contracts aside) is wrong. I think Sale/Kershaw are at a different level than everyone else. Q is a Top 20 pitcher and may even be a top 10-15. But he is having an up and down year. My gut tells me the best offer for Q will be 60-75% of what they got for Sale. Now Hahn may know that and take it or decide Q is of more value staying as the White Sox ace. I didn't say exactly the same as sale, but rather a relatively similar to of package as sale and eaton. Talks have been going on long enough to the point where haha will make a move when he knows he is being offered what the organization considers quintana's to value to be. A 28 year old lefty on a very reasonable contact that has been very healthy shouldn't come cheap. Sale returned two top 15 prospects in moncada and kopech. Nobody will come close to offering that same level of talent for quintana, but I also think he is worth more than you are expecting.
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 04:04 PM) The Braves are so intriguing since the deadline timeline doesn't necessarily apply to them...one would think they would be making a push now, as opposed to in a few weeks like many of the other teams. Sox won't deal Quintana for less than a package similar to what they got in exchange for Adam Eaton/Chris Sale, especially considering the lack of other good options on the market. The Braves system is totally loaded to the point where they are one of the few clubs that could trade for Q and not have it gut their farm. Newcomb, Allard, Soroka, Wright, Anderson, Gohara, Toussaint, Fried, Wentz, Muller, Minter, Morris etc. is crazy pitching depth from which they can deal Albies, Maitan, Acuna, Pache, Demeritte, Riley, Waters, etc. There is a nice 3-4 player deal to be made here
  16. QUOTE (daggins @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 03:15 PM) Guys, what if, instead of trading Archer, the Rays look to trade for Quintana? Far fetched, maybe, but he'd fit in well with their staff and would slot in as their #2 starter behind Archer. They have Honeywell and Adames in the top 50, and a number of other prospects as well. Just speculatin' here, just shootin the breeze Rays do have the prospects to swing a trade, but I doubt they clean out their farm system for Quintana. As a small market club they really rely on their farm to produce inexpensive major league talent.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 02:10 PM) The Rays are at the edge of contending too, which makes it more difficult to sell. If I'm Tampa I would not trade Archer for anything short of a Chris Sale esque package, and even more doubtful because the team could still make the playoffs. The Royals are only 2.5 games out of first place, hardly can be considered sellers right now. Oakland could certainly deal Gray, but he has a season less of control than Quintana and has had injury issues. Gray would still require a considerable trade package to acquire. Rangers want to keep Darvish it seems and aren't far out of a wildcard spot either. I actually like the way this market is shaping up for us.
  18. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 03:10 PM) Where do we expect to see Alec Hanson in updated top 100s? Top 50 guy? Better? Back end of the top 100 I would guess at mid season rankings. He's 22 and did very well against low A ball competition and rookie ball players in the past year. He needs to produce against better players at the high A level to really solidify himself as a top prospect. He certainly has the tools to become a quality starter, he just needs to keep up the solid work.
  19. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 07:11 PM) Considering he was ranked around where we took Sheets, I'll take it. I'm confused how Sheets ends up getting $2 million bonus way overslot, but a similarly ranked Skoug gets $300k How does Sheets justify $600-700K overslot as a second round pick?
  20. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 01:40 PM) And Archer most likely won't be available. Archer most likely will not be traded unless the package offered is an overpay. His contract is incredible value.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 12:50 PM) Think it was the 4th last night where I was sure he was going to give up a big hit because West refused to call anything low for him. We can all be thankful that Quintana has had an excellent June and his value should be coming back where we need it to be. As much as it sucks to deal a pitcher of his caliber, our rebuild really needs to prospect return he can bring us. Outside of Archer, there is no mlb quality starter that will be available that has the same amount of inexpensive control and track record of both success and health.
  22. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 10:32 AM) My bad boys! It must have been the colors!! I still really like Yurchak! I do note that Yurchak has already committed 4 errors in his first 10 games. Have not heard anything about his defense, but that's alot of errors in a short span.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 12:20 PM) Been saying that all year, rather he show he can project to be a big league hitter and core piece going forward. If the worst case scenario was that he was a slugging DH, that's better than what we are seeing at this moment. He badly needs a hot streak where he strings together several multi hit games to get his bat going. Drawing walks is great, but he absolutely needs to be making more contact.
  24. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 09:50 AM) From who? Like I listed above, there's at least 5 alternative options and not many teams in need of a corner infielder. I said if Boston is interested I would look for lower level prospects from A+ or A ball Give me Darwinzon Hernandez or Bryan Mata over washed up guys like Owens/Swihart
  25. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 09:47 AM) It's possible the best they can do is Swihart and Owens though. Owens gives you a 24-year old you can try to stick in the rotation after they move guys and call guys up/go to 6-man rotation or see if he can turn into a reliable lefty reliever long-term. Owens is 25 in July and just got demoted to AA https://www.overthemonster.com/2017/6/26/15...-red-sox-minors His control is awful. I certainly want to move Frazier, but we can get more interesting prospects than Swihart and Owens. Why help the Red Sox and get garbage back? Low level guys with some upside would be a much better move.
