  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 02:29 PM) I think you are probably right, but I do think they would be willing to move Maitan considering he's so far away and they will be set in the MI for awhile. I don't think we'd have much interest in Albies, which leaves us to insist on Acuna or Maitan, the latter being who the Braves will need to decide whether they like Q enough to move him. Then you are probably asking for Allard or Newcomb. Then maybe a few guys like Pache and Jackson? I certainly would be interested in Albies. He has reached AAA at age 20 and is excellent defensively. A .759 OPS considering his age and level is very good. Acuna and Maitan are likely considered untouchable by the Braves at this point. Pache has really raised his prospect stock and would be an excellent pick up. I don't think the Braves trade him as a third or fourth piece in a deal. Acuna or Maitan + Allard or Newcomb + Pache + Jackson would be an enormous haul for the White Sox that is not happening
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 02:15 PM) I don't agree with this bidding war notion. As I said before, the trade market doesn't work like a normal commodities market, where things are transparent and information is widely available. It isn't as though Hahn is going to be auctioning these guys off at 6 pm on the 31st or something. He needs to be working with serious suitors to get deals done that make sense for the future. It is very unlikely that he is going to finally get to that place with one team, and then call the others and tell them "Cashman has offered this, can you beat it?" He's going to field calls from all interested parties, and let them know what the price is. If someone wants to meet it, they will (or something close). Also, keep in mind, these discussions have been ongoing for like 6 months now. The groundwork has been laid. Now we just wait until the heat gets turned up on someone enough that they become serious about meeting Hahn's prices. I agree with what you are saying, but I did not mean a literal auction. Moreso for the Sox to be very engaging in trade dialogue and leveraging suitors against one another. Groundwork may have be laid, but certain players may not have been available in previous discussions that are now due to playoff pressure, injuries, etc.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 01:06 PM) On queue: ChiSox: Do you have renewed faith in Micker Adolfo? Dude is hitting bombs this year. 1:08 Eric A Longenhagen: There are some statistical red flags, I’m still a bit apprehensive. The skepticism is warranted, but this is the best we have seen him play yet professionally. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0605-story.html Adolfo credits his recent success to becoming more mature and developing a routine. He has started to walk a little more and the power is showing (.225 ISO at age 20 in A ball is encouraging)
  4. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 02:07 PM) True. However, I think Burger will be in WS before long. Remillard's numbers aren't exactly exciting. Yurchak seems to have plus plate discipline, I don't know anything about his position or defense. Has not shown much power as of yet.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 10:21 AM) Just to be clear, there is nothing wrong with the career of Alexei Ramirez as a whole. If we get that out of Tim Anderson, it is a win. The comp comes from both players being extreme free swingers who weren't interested in walks, extremely athletic players with long limbs and long but quick swings who could make the spectacular play in one moment, yet blow the routine play in the next. Both have/had plus speed, and bad base running instincts. Both are medium power guys with mostly gap power, but the ability to run into 10-15 per season. I'd be very happy if Anderson ended up having as good of a career as Alexei Ramirez. He was a quality player for us from 2009 to 2014.
  6. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 02:05 PM) I'll use a different color or use an emoji next time. Haha sorry
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 02:02 PM) Hahn and Cashman should go old school- get a bottle of booze, and get a trade done. Quintana and Robertson are likely not going anywhere until right before the deadline. It is in the White Sox best interest to turn up the heat on suitors and have them get into a bidding war.
  8. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 01:41 PM) Who else do the Braves have hitting-wise in their system? I feel like they will have interest but I'm not sure they will end up dealing a package built of mostly hitting. I will accept their interest though. Braves have a loaded farm system of young talent. Albies, Maitan, Acuna, Allard, Soroka, Anderson, Demeritte, Gohara, Riley, Pache, Wentz, Wiegel, Minter, Jackson, Morris, Toussaint, Sims, etc. They could definitely get involved in Quintana at any point, but they have not shown a willingness to part with top talent yet.
  9. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 12:14 PM) The Brewers had a highly touted farm system entering the season but wow have their top 10 prospects had a tough go at it this year. Outside of Brinson's AAA stint (he's been terrible since his promotion to the big league club), the stats from their top 10 guys are UGLY overall. Ray striking out a 31.5% clip in A+ at age 22 (turns 23 in September) is an ominous sign. Ray's K% rate scares me for sure. Ortiz has been solid, but the rest of their top 10 prospects have had mediocre or down seasons for sure.
  10. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 11:46 AM) To avoid trading draft picks and making picks part of deals. Its the same concept that prevents sign and trades in baseball with a restriction that players cant be traded for a period for time after they sign. I think it is all a little archaic. That makes sense, but I feel that teams should be able to trade draft picks and future draft picks like in any other sport. Give teams more control over how they utilize their assets.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 12:04 PM) Re read my post. I literally said I'd much prefer Brinson to Ray. Brinson, Diaz, Dubon and Bickford is a pretty good package, and Rick could definitely shoot for Ortiz or Hader instead of Bickford to make it a real home run (but that ain't gonna happen). I totally get you prefer Brinson, no worries. That is a pretty solid package, but again do you really see the Brewers giving up four of their best prospects right now? I tried to come up with some realistic scenarios of trades that each side could agree upon.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 11:47 AM) There's not really much we can do, an 18 year old power hitting SS would look really good in our system even if he's not a future SS. But just reflexively getting mad at any hint he's actually good just seems based on envy to me. Still substantial risk in him. BUt I'd rather have him than shields. Sox badly needed the Luis Robert signing. He's exactly the sort of young talent the organization needs to be taking a chance on.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 11:39 AM) The thing about Q is that they can build their rotation around him. I don't see them emptying their farm for a rental, but I think a deal like Brinson (may have to be Ray instead), Diaz, Dubon and Bickford for Q and Swarzak could be sold to their fans. The deal with Ray feels a bit light for me, but with Brinson probably feels a bit steep for them. Ray's high K% rate does not scare you? I'd have to insist on Brinson in any Quintana deal, with more needing to be added as well. Personally, I don't love the Brewers as a trade fit. They have quality pieces, but I highly doubt they go all in at the deadline. Yankees = Frazier + Adams or Sheffield + Andujar or Florial + Flyer Astros = Tucker + Perez or Paulino or Whitley + JD Davis + Flyer Dodgers = Verdugo + Buehler + solid third piece + Flyer These could all be potential frameworks for a deal. I feel the Sox need to be getting two high quality prospects in return, a very good third piece with some upside and a low level flyer.
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 11:37 AM) You will see Tatis Jr on more than law's mid year top 100s. He's showing really good power for an 18 year old in A ball. Would be shocked if he's not on Callis's and Longenhagens based on their chats. Tatis has been impressive for an 18 year old. I don't like how this bodes for us.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 11:05 AM) 70 would be something like Mike Trout. Trout is an 80 grade player. Flat out elite, perennial MVP candidate, future 1st ballot HOF. 80 grade is a generational talent. Guys like Kris Bryant, Carlos Correa, Nolan Arenado, etc are 70 grade players
  16. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 11:25 AM) 2017 draftees can't be traded right now. Also, I don't think it's dumb to say that anyone is available for the right offer. There probably won't be a "right offer" for certain players and prospects, mostly because other teams won't be willing to pay. You'd be stupid to preclude the possibility that Billy Eppler gets a TBI and offers Trout 1 for 1 for any player on the ML roster, unlikely as that may be. I understand recent draftees cannot be traded, but anyone know the reasoning behind that? You would think that once a player signs a professional contract he is fair game to be dealt?
  17. QUOTE (striker @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 11:05 AM) I think the Brewers are a wildcard. They have the prospect depth. Whether they would part with either Hader or Brinson is another question. I don't see the Brewers emptying out their minor league system for a high profile starter at the deadline. They will need to rely on farm grown talent to stock their mlb roster moving forward. The preliminary conversations have all taken place, with Hahn telling the league that Quintana is on the block and being auctioned to the highest bidder essentially.
  18. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 09:48 AM) You also give yourself more money to spend in said draft. And it's all about putting yourself in a position to draft the best player that you want. That guy might go top 5 and you want to be there to get him. But like you said, it comes down to scouts. Keeping the focus on Quintana, with the deadline soon approaching we can imagine the Yankees, Astros, Dodgers, possibly Red Sox? possibly Cubs? Diamondbacks? Rockies? to be potential suitors for Quintana.
  19. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 10:25 PM) Fernando Tatis Jr!!!! Some scouts grade Tatis as a future 65 - 70 grade player. I am praying that does not happen, otherwise the Shields trade is a total disaster.
  20. QUOTE (zisk @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 09:01 AM) Keep an eye on Bernardo Flores. As excited as everyone is about Alec Hanson, Flores is having nearly as good a year and is 1 year younger. Lots of exciting prospects in the next wave 2019-2020. I like what Flores has done so far, especially keeping the walks down. I'm curious to see how he performs against significantly better high A ball competition though?
  21. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 12:20 AM) Adolfo - 2/3, HR, 2B, BB, 3 RBI (Avg. at .290) Frost - 2/5, 2 2B, RBI Yurchak - 2/4 Agar - 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K Micker Adolfo is quietly having his best pro season yet and has been red hot lately. He's started drawing more walks this past week, although he's still striking out way too often. The power has really started to show as well, with 4 homers in his last 10 games (.351 batting average). I'm happy for him and hope he continues to build on his recent success.
  22. QUOTE (Anderdale @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 04:13 AM) I agree It is entirely way too soon to panic. However, I am concerned. I am hopeful he just needs to make some adjustments. Think about how much better his defense has gotten after making a few adjustments. He was a force all his life leading to professional ball. I'm not ready to give up on him yet. I am not freaking out about Collins yet, but a top draft pick like him should be performing better than flirting with the Mendoza line in high A ball. He needs to get on a hot streak and right the ship.
  23. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 02:56 PM) Arms? Arms are great and all, but we need to score runs. Out of Rodon, Kopech, Giolito, Lopez, Fulmer, Burdi, Hansen, Dunning, Adams, Stephens, Diaz, Bummer, Cooper, Clark, Thompson and the 2017 draftees and guys like Kahnle, Ynoa, Petricka, and Putnam, our rotation and bullpen should be really well covered over the next half decade. We'll be able to fill in via free agency as needed. What we need are bats. And lots of them. I feel like Caulfield after that post. I may need a shower. Austin Meadows, a guy Soxtalk wanted badly in trade rumors over the winter, just tore his hamstring and will miss a month or so. He's had a mediocre at best season in AAA and his stock has certainly slipped a bit. It has been a tough season for Pirates prospects as Glasnow has been a disaster, Meadows has under performed and is now injured, Newman has put up a .633 OPS in AA, Keller has been solid but also dealt with injuries...
  24. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 02:27 PM) It may be time to get Collins out from behind the plate and let him concentrate on the offensive part of his game. I think all the work he is putting in at catcher is distracting him from accomplishing what he can at the plate. At least I hope thats why he has struggled. No way they abandon Collins defensively at catcher this soon. His value is largely tied to the ability to play passably behind the plate. Only convert him if he proves he absolutely cannot catch.
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 02:42 PM) I'm usually concerned, but not too concerned about this one. Other than his average, everything else is OK, and he has been concentrating on his defense. I think once he has that squared away, the average will go up. I'm starting to get fairly concerned about his ability to make consistent contact. The plate discipline is solid, but as the pitchers get better in the high minors he will not be able to rely on drawing walks as much. .209 against high A pitchers does not inspire tons of confidence against AA/AAA pitching. Too soon to panic, but I absolutely think we should be questioning the hit tool.
