QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 04:12 PM) Not really a matter of "if" but when. They'll make some serious additions in the next month. They are likely biding their time to see what is on the market in a month. Impact relief help never comes cheap though. Sox should be open to eating salary in order to maximize the prospect return

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 03:20 PM) K-Rod to minors once deal with #Nationals is done. Team liked K rate, K/BB rate. HR rate clearly alarming. Trying for lightning in bottle. https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/879430392457175041 I don't blame the Nationals, but they are playing with fire. They cannot expect to catch lightning in a bottle and for a struggling K-Rod to be able to lead a world series caliber bullpen. A trade is beyond necessary, and I'd be shocked if they did not make a move by the deadline for impact relief help

QUOTE (zisk @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 01:36 PM) Agreed. If Q has 1-2 more good starts in a row, his value should be about back to his off season level. Don't be surprised if the Yankees decide to pull the trigger. They really are almost as good as the Red Sox and Q could help them for a long time. Best case is a deadline bidding war between Yankees, Astros and Dodgers for Quintana. There could be some very interesting packages that come out of that. To teams balking at the price, how many cost controlled starters under age 30 with a track record of both 1) Health and 2) Success are available?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 02:06 PM) I hadn't really read much about the kid, but looking around I came across this today. http://piratesbreakdown.com/2017/01/07/pit...ns-alen-hanson/ Hanson (Alen) is exactly the type of a guy a rebuilding club like the White Sox should take a chance on. If he can turn things around that is great. We really do not have anything to lose. We would much rather give chances to younger players than aging veterans.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 12:30 PM) Zach Collins isn't blocking anyone at this point. How is Zavala's defense? He has homered in four out of his last 5 games

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 12:14 PM) Good weekend for the reverse standings. Too bad they didn't lose 1 more against the Padres when we played them. A sell off should help us tank some more games for sure. If we are not going to make the playoffs we really need to be losing as much as possible to get higher draft picks and a larger bonus pool to work with for 2018.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 12:34 PM) Let's face it. Giolito was a trainwreck when he got here. I think Washington knew that, which is why they spent all winter trying to package him in big deals. Gavin Floyd was honestly a great comp here. Dude has a million dollar arm, but no confidence when he got here. He needed to be rebuild from the ground up mechanically, but then also to start believing that he was a stud pitcher again. It seems like he might be turning that corner in AAA, but we will see. If the Sox can rebuild him into even a middle rotation pitcher, and still get something out of Lopez and Dunning, this is a huge win for the White Sox. Part of any trade or prospect are elements of risk, upside, downside and also development. Giolito certainly has talent, but the Sox need to work on getting him to be consistent. Some players take longer than others to develop, and growing pains will happen.

QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 12:03 PM) I think this "do-over for the Eaton trade" narrative is overblown. Obviously Eaton's injury changes the team's outlook this year, but the trade itself wasn't that lopsided. Besides, based on their performance this season alone, two-thirds of the return package (Giolito and Lopez) would have seen their trade value drop. Eaton is a very good player on a long term contract. That was not going to come cheaply, not matter what. Giolito/Lopez stock would likely be down, but Dunning's stock should be up. I still feel like it could end up being a fair deal for both teams.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 11:35 AM) Jon HeymanVerified account @JonHeyman 2m2 minutes ago K-Rod being pursued by Nats, and likely to go to them. Word is, they need bullpen help. Haha as soon as I saw the Tigers released him I expected the desperate Nats to pick him up. Problem is K-Rod has been awful this season. Giving up 9 home runs in 25 innings is a really bad sign for an aging closer.

QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 11:19 AM) Yep, need some guys like Fulmer, Collins, Burger, and whoever we draft with high picks in the next year or two to pan out. We can pull off some great trades, but if you're not drafting well, it's awfully tough. Rebuilding is a tough, long process. It's hard to judge, but we have come a long way since December 1st. Not every prospect will pan out, but we have done a good job taking what was a bottom 5 mlb farm and hugely upgrading it with talent.

QUOTE (FT35 @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 10:03 AM) I wonder if Bregman is any more available now after his modest 2017 start. Probably not, but I think the meter should go both ways...if Q's value is allowed to be perceived as lower after his mediocre start, then so should any prospects' who start slow! Still doubt Bregman will be traded. You are talking about a 23 year old player with tons of potential still. In 122 games so far he has put up a .761 OPS, not great, but still very respectable for a young player.

QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 09:50 AM) I guess I lump in the 2016 draft into the rebuild. That Collins pick is looking very bad to me. The Giolito/Lopez return for Eaton not looking good so far. Moncada/Kopech look about what you could reasonably expect. Robert looks good early. Not trading Q looks like a bad decision. I would say the plan has been OK, results not overwhelming. But you never know until about 20 years later how things turn out. Don't forget about Dane Dunning. He has had a strong season so far. Giolito/Lopez have been mediocre so far, but it's too early to write them off for sure

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 09:28 AM) His bat is fine, but we don't need more 1B / DH types. Much much much prefer Dahl, but obviously he is a more attractive piece. Quintana and Robertson for Rodgers, Dahl and Tapia would be a great deal for the Sox. Highly unlikely Rodgers is available via trade after batting .384 in the minors this season so far with a 1.068 OPS.

Potential and Likely Draft pick busts 2008-present
steveno89 replied to tray's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Jun 25, 2017 -> 10:48 PM) In my opinion, the busts we have had and those who will likely be busts. 2008 - Gordon Beckham 2009 - Jared Mitchell, Josh Phegley 2011 = Keenyn Walker 2012- Courtney Hawkins, Keon Barnum 2015- Carson Fulmer 2016- Zack Colllins 2017- Burger Yes, I have lost hoe that Fulmer and Collins will pan put, and I just can't see Burger as a major league player. If Carlos Rodon does not come back to pre-injury form, he might join that list. Burger has not even played a single minor league game and he's already a bust?? Wow -
QUOTE (turnin' two @ Jun 25, 2017 -> 11:25 AM) Curbelo hasn't played in a couple days, anyone know whats going on? At what point does the concern about Collins batting .209 in high A ball set in? I know he draws walks, but any defensive improvements will be useless if he cannot make better contact moving forward. I'm certainly not writing him off, but would have much preferred Kyle Lewis as the pick instead of Collins. If not for the injury I think Lewis would be mashing right now.

QUOTE (striker @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 10:11 AM) My wishlist: Robertson + Swarzak for Kieboom + Soto + Luzardo Quintana + Kahnle for Schwarber, Jimenez, Cease, Albertos Avi for Kelly + Flaherty Abreu for Rutherford, Andujar, Abreu OF Depth: Rutherford, Robert, Soto, Jimenez, Call, Fisher, Adolfo, Basabe 1B: Schwarber, Davidson 2B: Sanchez, Moncada SS: Anderson, Kieboom 3B: Delmonico, Andujar, Kieboom, Davidson CA: Kelly, Collins SP: Giolito, Flaherty, Lopez, Rodon, Fullmer, Dunning, Hansen, Cease, Guererro, Adams, Stephens, Luzardo, Abreu Robertson and Swarzak are not getting the White Sox Soto, Kieboom and Luzardo I don't get the romantic desire for Schwarber. He has been awful so far in 2017 and his value is WAY down. Abreu is not getting Rutherford, Andujar and Abreu

QUOTE (pablo @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 09:24 AM) Would love to see the Sox get the Dodgers involved somehow in trade discussions. Kahnle for Verdugo would be a great get. I also love Calhoun but the current influx of Burger, Sheets, Skoug means we might have a lot of all hit-no position players. Either way, I'd still target Calhoun. I'd be very surprised if the Dodgers would move Verdugo for a reliever. The power has not shown up yet, but he's 21 years old hitting .339 in AAA with a cannon arm. Yusniel Diaz would be a great get though.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 09:38 AM) I don't see any way he signs for 5/$50 mill. He's close enough to free agency where he would be better off gambling on sustaining this success and becoming a free agent. A half season of good production does not make him worth a massive extension. I'd ride him out of the cheap and see if he can keep this up. What is the rush anyways?
-
QUOTE (striker @ Jun 22, 2017 -> 05:12 AM) Thoughts on Q + Abreu to Yankees? It would gut their minors but they are facing a 40 man crunch soon. Something like Frazier, Fowler, Andujar, Floria, Austin, Adams I don't see Abreu getting moved before the deadline. Even a rebuilding club needs some veterans to hold things together and provide an example for younger players.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 02:21 PM) I wouldn't be shocked if BUmmer ends up as one of those guys we barely talk about, gets a random call up and has an outsized impact on the pro club relative to this prospect hype/status. He's an interesting lefty reliever in our system, something we are really thin on outside of him and Clark. I certainly could see Bummer getting a look in the pen at some point.
-
QUOTE (beautox @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 09:51 AM) from Marc Hulet @ fangraphs link Hansen has performed well, no doubt, but I will reserve judgement until I see him do it against better competition than low A hitters. He's 22 years old and facing a ton of younger players in Kannapolis. I'd like to see him up at A+ or even possibly AA to really test him.
-
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 11:35 AM) Kahlne has no track record to speak of, I highly doubt we get a top 100 guy for him. If so it will be 80-100 range There would be no reason to move Kahnle for less than at least one top 100 prospect + another interesting piece right now. He's cheap and has been lights out this season with peripherals to back him up.
-
QUOTE (beautox @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 11:23 AM) Kahnle is worth 2 top 100 prospects in the 50-100 range and a interesting piece. He is right up there with Jansen and Knebell in k/9 and has 3 years of control, he is beyond a "sweetener" if he gets moved at the deadline expect a slightly lesser package than Giles. If he gets moved in the off season and takes over for the departed Robertson his value is only going to go up from there. In our view? Yes, he's worth 2 back 50 top 100 prospects. I highly doubt the rest of the league views him that highly due to the short track record though? I absolutely would try hard to sell high on him at the deadline if we can
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 10:41 AM) Realistically, I agree he has not a lot of leverage. I don't see him getting that amount, or close to it. It's one thing if he fell to round 4 or 5, but he fell to the 7th round. I would think he would get slightly over slot, but nothing crazy. Doubtful he risks what should be a solid bonus as a college junior.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 10:26 AM) Worth noting, the difference between his being drafted in the 3rd round, and in the 7th round is around $435k ($636k vs 201k) How much leverage does Skoug really have though? Sure, he can return to school for his senior season, but he is then banking on being drafted higher when teams continued to pass on him round after round. He would have no leverage as a senior signing and his stock could fall, or he could get injured?
