Tough to say until he plays in the US, but he appears to have the stuff and command to start. Will immediately become one of the more interesting arms in the system.
-
If they cannot get Quintana, Wainwright for around $6 million would be a nice veteran addition on a one year deal. Richards just cannot stay healthy.
-
Agreed. Quintana/Richards/Archer/Leake sign as #4 starter La Stella / Brad Miller / Profar add as another bat with versatility Flowers would be solid if budget room remains. Going with Collins/Zavala/Mercedes wouldn't be the end of the world though
-
My take is that Richards is a fall back option for the Sox at around $8 million on a one year deal. Could start or be used out of the pen. Sox are interested in Kluber, but so is at least 75% of the league. Competition for him will be stiff, as even rebuilding clubs would value him as a deadline trade asset if healthy. I think they are also exploring trade possibilities, although I suspect they keep their trade chips for a deadline deal and prefer the FA route. Paxton and Quintana could be of interest as well.

I'd be pretty surprised if Molina got anywhere near that much money at his age.
-
Wainwright could be a really solid veteran addition to the backend of the rotation. A John Lackey "light" so to speak that would not require more than a one year deal. If he falters, you can go with Kopech/Stiever/etc.
-
I do not know if it really matters. Once players sign they are fully aware they can be traded at any time, it is just business. He still gets his money.
-
I also do not like shipping off such a promising prep arm so early in his development. He certainly has the pedigree to become a top 100 prospect by end of this season if he performs. I'd be pretty surprised if he were dealt unless we were receiving a #2 in return.
-
I like Burnes, but is he a guy we can trust to stay healthy? I am not so sure he is the kind of pitcher I would give up a haul for.
-
Heard Jared Kelley's name come up. I'm sure many clubs would be very interested in him. I am fine with giving up Madrigal/Heuer/plus in a package, but trading our most advanced young pitching prospect is not ideal at this stage. Sox need to clear 40 man roster spots, so I would focus on subtracting from there before dipping into top 10 prospects on the farm.
-
The smartest thing the organization can do would be to let Crochet develop as a SP in the minor leagues. They can always call him up later in the season to reinforce the bullpen.

Bingo. Hand is likely to get less than most think. Under normal circumstances his 1/$10 million contract would be picked up by some club looking for bullpen help. -
Dodgers sign Bauer (3/102, opt-outs, 40-45-17)

I would be leery about signing such an outspoken player to a long term deal No way he's getting $36 million per over 5-6 years -
Blake Snell and Yu Darvish traded to San Diego

The difference between the Sox and Padres is that the middle tier of their farm is vastly superior to ours. Beyond our top 10 it quickly tails off. -
I like Musgrove, but what is the cost assuming their are quite a few suitors? I think clubs would like to see how FA plays out before dealing from their farm.

If most clubs are out of international pool money, Colas might have to wait until 2022 in order to sign. Sox could absolutely still be in the mix for him then. -

Real Hendriks talk Who are the other potential suitors for him? If the rumored deal is 3/$39 million, I cannot see that many teams being willing to spend big on a closer in this market -

Sox could always sign a guy like Shin Soo Choo on the cheap to DH and then dump him once Vaughn proves ready -

Keeping Vaughn down is not even really playing the service time game. He has yet to face anything above high A ball pitching. No reason to rush our best prospect -
Paxton is a guy we should be very interested in. If healthy, he could be an outstanding #4 Just do not expect more than 130-150 innings out of him.

No risk deal as depth

Joc was pretty terrible in 2020 for what it is worth
-
Tough decision ahead for the Sox. The tiny glimpse we saw in 2020 showed he can be an impactful bullpen arm right now, but it may be better to let him develop in the minors as a starting pitcher in the long run.

I believe in giving second chances. It is difficult to argue that any other candidate out there has a stronger track record though.
