  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 09:18 PM) I've heard Twins like Rooker with one of these picks Crap. Rooker to the twins. Why do I feel like he will end up being a White Sox killer????
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 09:10 PM) I have a feeling these next 20 picks will be pretty dream crushing. Yeah. The bones will be picked pretty damn clean by the next time we pick. Hopefully we have scouted well and came prepared.
  3. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 09:07 PM) It's beyond moronic. I don't know if there is a single team more f***ed by this than the White Sox. Comp balance round had screwed the White Sox for years. We are seem asa major market team, yet are second fiddle forever in Chicago. MLB needs to get rid of comp balance picks completely.
  4. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 09:06 PM) Alex Lange to Cubs. Lange to the Cubs was called for awhile. He profiles asa solid back end starter
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 09:03 PM) excuse me while I scream at this bulls*** competitive balance section. Comp balance picks always struck me as B's. Why would some teams get additional draft picks because they are in a small market?
  6. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 08:52 PM) Feel any better? Hard to fault the Sox when there was not a clear selection they should have made. Burger fills an organizational need and is an interesting power bat. Never can hurry to add more positional player depth that we badly need.
  7. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 08:19 PM) Remember this guy that a bunch of us wanted last year? http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?playe...itting/2017/ALL Lux is 19. Far too early to judge him.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 08:00 PM) https://twitter.com/CSNHayes/status/874428635167555585 I hope this means we had a deal in place. Burger underslot would be a nice touch, allowing us to go overslot later in the draft.
  9. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 07:40 PM) We were pleased to see he was still on the board at our pick. Our farm needed a power bat and burger should provide solid pop. We might look back and be very happy with this selection in a few years.
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 07:26 PM) If we did this draft round 100 times this would be in my bottom quartile for sure. We can't hate the pick this much. Would White be significantly better? I don't know that. If burger sticks at third and providers solid power he could be a valuable player. Not the most athletic, but he might be a damn fine baseball player? I like going for guys that can get on base. Or system really needed a power bat.
  11. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 07:20 PM) Just my opinion that he will be under slot I don't think burger will end up being under slot. Not a bad pick considering what was on the board. If he sticks at third he could be a MLB regular. Have to like the power potential.
  12. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 04:47 PM) Meh...all this doom and gloom about Quintana. Honestly...look at his starts tho. It's not like he's getting stellar run support by any means. He's given up more than 4 runs twice...in back to back crappy outings against Boston and AZ (and AZ rakes at home...best record in baseball at home). Besides that: 4 runs- 1 time (L) 3 runs- 3 times 2-(L) 1-No decision 2 runs- 1 time (W) 1 run- 2 times Both No decisions 0 runs- 1 time (W) Correct me if I missed something here. So honestly the guy has only had 2 really bad outings this year. Given his track record...durability...and affordability as well as control...you'd be nuts to think teams won't be calling Hahn. Let's not let this 2-8 record you...he hasn't pitched that awful bad. You don't settle. Quintana's FIP of 4.14 really is not that bad, and shows that he has been the victim of some bad luck. 3 1/2 seasons of reasonable control on a left handed quality starter with a good health record should not come cheap
  13. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 04:29 PM) I'm beginning to worry the Sox pass on Kendall only for him to become another Trout situation (not actually becoming Mike Trout, but posters raging about it for years) Could you really blame the Sox if they pass on Kendall? His NCAA k% rate is frighteningly high, despite other clear tools. If he pans out and becomes a stud, good for him. I'm willing to pass on him
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 03:58 PM) There are definite tax considerations at play here, and however long it takes for those to be effective is how long he will stay in the DR. There is a pretty decent chance that we structured our bid to give him that early playing time there to save him something like $4 million in taxes. To have gotten him $4 million more in a cash equivilant in the US, it would have taken a bid somewhere in the $32 to $33 million range depending on which state he was playing in when he got paid his bonus. I'm sure that has something to do with why he is not stateside yet, but also we do not need to throw him into Kannapolis before he has gotten some playing time in the DSL as a tune up. A year away from organized baseball is quite some time. A likely path would be: DSL, possibly some Rookie League and/or low A ball games in 2017 2018 start the season in low A, with good performance earning promotion and finishing the season at high A. 2019 start season at AA, possible AAA promotion second half of the season. 2020 likely some time in AAA, but good chance of a callup?
  15. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 03:53 PM) Don't take it to the bank but I think the Sox want one of the UVA guys/Beck and Bukasukas is in play as well. Have to think the Sox are looking at: Haseley, Beck, Bukauskas...but none of them might be on the board for us. Bukauskas I'm not a big fan of, as I think he ends up being a reliever due to his small size and high effort delivery Smith doesn't excite me as a 1B/DH only prospect
  16. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 03:37 PM) I've seen enough, lets get him to Charlotte. Hahaha we all wish. To be fair I would expect a prospect like Robert to crush DSL pitching. Nice to see him taking a year off has not had too much of an impact though. We will all be disappointed if he does not see playing time in single A before the end of the season though.
  17. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 03:26 PM) I understand general disappointment about Q underperforming this year, but I don't see how it affects a potential deal with the Astros. The Astros had their shot over the winter and clearly didn't seem to value Q all that much in the first place, given their long list of "untouchables" and underwhelming offers. Even if Q were pitching well, the Astros would be a tough match. Really depends. The Astros are very much a contender this year and have had injury issues with starting pitchers. Quintana could be a reliable rotation piece moving forward that could help solidify their rotation the next 3 1/2 seasons at a reasonable contract cost? The Astros have a pretty stocked farm system, but they also have quite a few players that are blocked from reaching the mlb level and who's value will dwindle if they are not moved. AJ Reed, Colin Moran and JD Davis are all not getting any younger, plus they are blocked. Depth is great, but each of them are 24+ years old. None have tremendous value, but certainly could be a piece to acquiring pitching help.
  18. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 01:52 PM) His first hit/HR: https://www.instagram.com/p/BVP_yX2Bbhm/ That pitch got smoked! Thanks for sharing
  19. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 01:43 PM) Astros are now without Keuchel and McCullers. Astros very well will need a reliable starter for a stretch run. I think they are waiting until after the draft and next few weeks go before deciding to more seriously pursue a trade
  20. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 01:40 PM) Yes, I said it earlier in the thread but Joe Dunand in the 3-6th area. Could see him turning into a 3B with plus glove, 20-25hr power, and .270ish hitter. BA has him at #190. How does a 40 grade fielder turn into a plus glove at 3B? He's not a bad round 3-6 gamble, but the hit tool is questionable once he starts seeing better pitching. The power is interesting for sure though.
  21. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 12:49 PM) Exactly. I think it's very possible a deal can happen with Kieboom and Luzardo coming back for Robertson. Money still seems to be a point of contention. Robertson is owed $12 million next season. That number is less crazy that it was a few years ago, but it's still not cheap.
  22. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 01:25 PM) I think I'm hoping for Haseley. If we have to go high-risk, I'd much rather have Beck than Kendall. I'd much rather have a bat than Bukauskas or Faedo. Except I'd much rather have Bukauskas or Faedo than a 1b-only bat like Smith or White. Absolute dream scenario would be Royce Lewis falling somehow. Evan White is not necessarily a 1B only type bat though given his other tools. I don't necessarily see him being the pick, but he's certainly interesting.
  23. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 12:21 PM) I can definitely see him getting drafted tomorrow. Pray it isn't the Sox. Eh, this is not a DUI or significant character concerns. He is a sex offender and molested a 6 year old at age 15. Organizations have a reputation to maintain and it just isn't worth the headache.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 12:16 PM) I really doubt it. I highly doubt he gets drafted day 1 by any organization. Far too many other players that do not have that level of baggage associated with them.
  25. QUOTE (beautox @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 12:03 PM) pipe dream scenario 1(11) - Adam Haseley 2(49) - Brendon Little 3(87) - Brent Rooker 4(117) - Luis Gonzalez 5(147) - Will Toffey If Rooker is on the board at #49 I would be shocked. No way the Sox pass him up if he is there in the second round.
