QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 15, 2017 -> 07:15 AM) Yeah I don't think Q goes to Nats or Red Sox. Robertson to Nats and Frazier to Boston? Sure. I don't see the Red Sox or Nationals totally depleting their farm system for Quintana I could see the Yankees making a play if they are in the thick of a playoff race

QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ May 13, 2017 -> 11:32 AM) I don't expect the Sox to be competitive in either of the next 2 seasons, and there are very few relievers I'd feel confident in saying they'll be productive in 2019 and beyond. Expecting relievers to be a legitimate part of a long-term rebuild seems like a fool's errand to me. If any contender is willing to trade prospects that would crack the Sox top 10 then they should absolutely be willing to trade Kahnle. I can't see a team being willing to part with significant prospects for kahnle given such a short track record of success though. We're better off keeping him and Fielding calls for Robertson and Jones who are much more proven options.

QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ May 12, 2017 -> 11:37 PM) Adams is way too hittable to move up higher than AA. And no Burdi? Burdi is being developed solely as a reminder, which is why I left him off the list. I think he can be a successful set up or potential closer. Adams has been hittable, but he's still pretty young for the AA level at 21. He could turn into a back end starter? Our farm pretty desperately needs more bats with potential

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 12, 2017 -> 04:37 PM) That may be, but there is evidence to suggest that this was a physical change in mechanics made by Kahnle, and the sample size is getting larger. It is certainly possible that this is a fluke, similar to Aardsma 10 years ago, but until that happens, Kahnle is going to be viewed as a piece of the future. Think about it from a contender's point of view right now Would you give up anything of significance for Kahnle, even if he continues to be dominant the next month or two? It's still such a small sample size that it would be very hard to justify given his track record

QUOTE (beautox @ May 12, 2017 -> 04:51 PM) Obviously would love Haseley, but regardless I think the sox take a college player possibly even under slot with Burger. I love stockpiling arms, but our system is badly in need of some bats Outside of Moncada, Collins and Basabe there is really not much in the way of hitting

QUOTE (bmags @ May 12, 2017 -> 02:42 PM) http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/upda...ts-chat-may-11/ If this is the case, why rank him? Too soon to write off Giolito based off a bad first 6 weeks. I don't think he will ever become a frontline starter, but he's still very young and does have upside I think the Yankees, Braves and Astros have a better farm system overall than we do. The White Sox are likely #4 or 5 overall right now. Signing Robert and having a good draft could go a long way to improving that though

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ May 12, 2017 -> 02:31 PM) Nice thing about Kahnle is having the luxury of keeping him for the next contender or trade him. Personally, I wouldn't try to trade Kahnle but if a desperate GM wants to offer a kings random then I'm game. I like the future potential in a back three of Kahnle, Burdi and Clark. I don't think a team would really offer up all that much for Kahnle due to such a short short track record of performance Why move him for a middling prospect or two when the upside is likely better to keep him for a while longer?

QUOTE (Jake @ May 12, 2017 -> 08:36 AM) I would say Kopech is our best pitching prospect, followed by Lopez, Fulmer, then Giolito. Fulmer has outpitched Lopez this year at the same level to be certain, but Lopez has such great stuff that I see him as the better prospect even if I would pick Fulmer if I had to win a game tomorrow. I'd rank them: Kopech Lopez Fulmer Giolito Dunning Hansen Adams As far as starters are concerned

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 12, 2017 -> 09:21 AM) http://m.mlb.com/news/article/229743034/ji...2017-mlb-draft/ Jim Callis mock draft for MLB.com. Has Sox taking Haseley. Pretty sure nearly all of Soxtalk would be down for Haseley as the pick if he is on the board Beck is interesting, as is Baz

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 12, 2017 -> 12:07 PM) He's definitely an interesting case. Shouldn't be in a rush to trade him but at the same time there's at least a chance his mechanics fall apart and he gets hit around again. If it's me I think I'm taking the chance of holding onto him unless you get blown away with an offer right now. Not every player doing well should be traded. Kahnle has performed well and I think the Sox will hold onto an arm like his unless they receive a really good trade offer.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ May 11, 2017 -> 01:51 PM) I think that's kind of the point with Robertson though. He's unlikely to bring back a top 25 prospect at the centerpiece. Unlike with Q, I find it hard to believe that there's any farm system in baseball that can't put together some sort of deal that would be attractive for Robertson. The more teams that are involved, the better. A top 25 organizational prospect? Or top 25 in the mlb prospect?

QUOTE (FT35 @ May 11, 2017 -> 01:48 PM) I know this is not the popular perspective on this board, however I just don't think it would be a horrible idea to just call the guy up to see how he fits in with this team. I get the business side of things--the year of control--all that. But 1 thing keeps looming in my mind--the past. The 2005 year actually. The 2004-05 off season was supposed to have gutted the Sox. We just shed the likes of Carlos Lee and Magglio Ordonez and we were supposed to be horrible. Their replacement--Scotty Pods and some bullpen help. That team showed they had a different plan for the season--they clicked with the manager's "Ozzieball" philosophy and rode it all the way to the title. They did it with guys like Jon Garland & Jose Contreras in their rotation--both who had ERA's near 5 the year before. They had just lost the heart of their order and even Big Frank was battling injuries--many people pegged them to be buried in the AL Central. But they started out hot and just clicked as an ego-free team embracing a managerial approach--and really took off with the Bobby Jenks call-up. Here we sit with a team of young, unproven players--vets who have been acquired with the sole purpose of being flipped--and just months off of trading away their "best" players. We have a new manager--we're off to a decent start, we don't have a ton of egos and we are seeing the flipper vets perform well--this time Holland and Gonzalez rather than Contreras and Garland. I am all about the rebuild and making the right decisions, but would 2005 have turned out the same if they had not called up Jenks? Or if they had flipped Contreras and Garland? Or if they had jumped at a chance to trade Buehrle (Q?) for a boat load of prospects? I'm just hoping they aren't so focused on the future that they overlook what they may have in front of them. Not saying this is the SAME situation--but those 2005 guys went from Yolmers to Legends just by the way they played the game together. Did any of you peg Geoff Blum as a World Series Hero? I might be inclined to see if Moncada is the missing piece to THIS team. If he's an instant stud like many prospects of his caliber have become--all of a sudden, you've got a competitive lineup and a rotation who is thriving to go with a lights out bullpen--with a schedule full of winnable division games. Yes...it's a narrative we have heard SO much--stuck in the middle each year--mediocre. But this year seems a little different with an actual manager calling the shots, money to spend and some potential difference makers cooking down in AAA. They also have shown the rare ability to get clutch hits and win close games. How would a couple call-ups, a catcher, and maybe a CF upgrade change the look of this team? Don't get sucked into the storybook 2005 Sox narrative The White Sox have been trying to catch lightning in a bottle for far too long and really need to undergo an extensive rebuilding to have a better future. 2005 saw the White Sox remain healthy, and ride a very strong rotation and bullpen to a championship As currently constructed the Sox do not have enough talent to be a realistic contender. Guys like Cabrera and Frazier are gone after this season and the team needs to be thinking towards the future.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2017 -> 01:23 PM) Let's get Mets and Nats in a bidding war if Familia is done for season I don't love the Mets farm as a match for us. Beyond their top couple guys there isn't anything that interesting at a glance. Gimenez is a player I like, but he is far off from the majors

QUOTE (bmags @ May 11, 2017 -> 10:19 AM) http://www.hardballtimes.com/how-many-stri...ts-is-too-many/ If you don't want to feel better you can read this. According to that article, Kendall should be out of the first round due to having a 26% k rate this season being indicative of future contact issues. His bat scares me too much to draft in the top half of the first round.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 11, 2017 -> 10:58 AM) I know the shine is off of Fulmer because of last year, but it is my guess they have pretty similar careers. Fulmer has been pretty solid so far in AAA this season, and I think he is starting to redeem himself after being rushed to the majors last year. If he keeps pitching like he is capable of he should be in the top 100 midseason for sure Dunning and Hansen are just outside the top 100 I think
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 11, 2017 -> 10:29 AM) It would be ideal to get teams other than Washington involved in the bidding. Absolutely I don't see robertson or Quintana being dealt until much closer to the deadline. Teams are focused on the draft right now.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2017 -> 10:07 AM) Soto is probably too good to get now Soto or Kieboom would be great targets for the White Sox
-
QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ May 11, 2017 -> 09:58 AM) Mountcastle is tearing up A+ right now. I mean, I like Soto as a trade piece better than anything the Os could send over, but they can put a package together that would be value for Robertson. As always, the more teams who have a need, the better. Mountcastle is a well below average fielder with a 40 grade arm. His bat has to play otherwise he's not much use as a prospect. Sedlock would certainly be interesting, but idk if Baltimore would move one of it's best pitching prospects for a reliever.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 11, 2017 -> 09:45 AM) No idea. Good CF defense though and 80 grade speed. I think it's worth finding out. I'm just not a big fan of Smith. I don't like 1B that don't hit for big power. He's got a great hit tool. He's a 1B only prospect though that might have 20 home run power. There are other guys I'd rather have. The tools are there, but I'd be very worried that Kendall wouldn't hit well enough to get past AA ball. Sox fans are still sore about Courtney Hawkins and we cannot afford to miss on the #11 overall while rebuilding.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 11, 2017 -> 08:38 AM) Here's Keith Law's 1st Mock Draft: http://www.espn.com/blog/keith-law/insider/post?id=7049 He has the Sox taking Pavin Smith at #11 with Faedo and Kendall on the board. I'm not sure they'd do that. Kendall is falling pretty fast due to the strikeouts that will likely only get worse when facing more advanced pitching I wouldn't hate Pavin Smith as a selection at #11. He is a pretty safe prospect and is very hard to strike out.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 10, 2017 -> 09:32 PM) Orioles could be in the market for a closer also it would seem Orioles have a very thin farm system. I'm not even sure what I would ask for in return for Robertson.

QUOTE (bmags @ May 10, 2017 -> 08:58 AM) I guess I could have done that math on my own, but there you go. Another weakness from Lillian he is actually good in. Yes, this is partially a money driven move, but I'm not discounting the fact that Moncada is not a finished product and still needs to work on defense and reducing his strikeout % Boston rushed him to the majors last year and the results were not good. Why short Yoan a few crucial months of minor league development before he is up at the mlb level for good? He'll force his way to Chicago soon enough, and until then we can all wait in anticipation
-
QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ May 10, 2017 -> 06:00 AM) It's hard not to get excited about reports saying something has clicked with him and he's playing with a quiet confidence, really hoping this kid keeps finally breaking out. If only he could start being more patient and drawing some walks... But I'm happy to see he has strung some good games together hitting lately. He's so young that it was tough to totally write him off.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 8, 2017 -> 12:39 PM) Uh, if he hits for a 250 or greater ISO he'll be one of the best players in MLB almost immediately That's more than decent power, that's elite, at 2B it's almost unheard of. I'd happily settle for a 260/330/460 line this year and improvement on that as he ages. If Moncada puts up a +.250 ISO at the mlb level you are talking about an elite player. That would put hi9m in the top 15 in the mlb in 2016 of ISO -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2017 -> 12:44 PM) http://meadowparty.com/blog/2017/05/04/klawchat-5417 Giolito is only 23 and pitchers with large bodies like his often do take longer to develop At the start oi the rebuild we have plenty of time to be patient in our prospects development
