  1. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 2, 2017 -> 10:14 PM) Man that Moncada homer was something. A bomb to left center batting lefty. That's some impressive pop. Moncada at age 21 is showing why he is so highly touted. If he can cut down on the strikeouts and improve his defense then you are talking about the potential to be a special player. It's scary to think that he could get significantly better than he is now over time with more reps
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2017 -> 01:52 PM) True, but I would like to thing relevant here. Moncada has been playing well, but isn't exactly FORCING himself to be called up yet either. His strike out rate is still a pretty significant red flag. He's still sitting just under 1 out of 3 PAs with a K. It's not quite Joey Gallo territory, but you also aren't getting his ridiculous power. Moncada's #1 asset is his speed, which does you no good if he isn't making contact. Thankfully Moncada has been performing, because Giolito has been terrible so far It's very surprising to see his performance fall so far off. Hopefully he can get back on track eventually.
  3. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 3, 2017 -> 12:46 PM) Tigers could eat money in a deal. Or the Dodgers, who let's face it, will be in the market for another good SP. They could take on the whole contract without giving up a huge haul. Teams might be leery about the huge amount of mileage on Verlander's arm in his age 34 season. I'm not saying he doesn't have anything left in the tank, but eventually those innings catch up to players in their mid thirties and they start to wear down I actually see Quintana being shopped during the offseason unless a contender makes a really good offer at the deadline
  4. QUOTE (flavum @ May 3, 2017 -> 09:33 AM) http://chicago.cbslocal.com/audio/670-the-score-interviews/ Hahn was on the Score today. He was tight lipped about Rodon. Said he's in Arizona and when he's ready for a rehab start, they'll announce it. Reading between the lines, I don't think we're going to hear much in May. Not good news on Shields or Rodon really The benefit of being in rebuilding mode is that there is not much reason to hurry these players back to playing though
  5. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 3, 2017 -> 12:52 PM) Sox guarantee another service year by waiting til about the third week of May. They would guarantee lesser salaries if they wait til mid June to avoid Super 2. If they wait til then, he's cheaper later and the ML team is probably going to lose more games which is probably a positive. I would let Moncada stay in the minors until at least mid to late June to avoid Super 2 Even though he is hitting well and showing solid power, he still can benefit from working on reducing that strikeout % and on defense He's only 21 years old, and there's not much reason to rush him to the majors
  6. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 3, 2017 -> 12:51 PM) He commands the zone, despite his K rate. He's more Mike Trout than TA. That said, yea, it would be nice if he could cut down the strikeouts. I think Rabbit mentioned that MLB umps will help him as a lot of his Ks are on balls off the plate that are called strikes in Charlotte. Giolito has been awful in AAA so far I'm surprised how hard he has fallen on his face
  7. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 2, 2017 -> 11:33 PM) I will keep mentioning this: Dunning hasn't given up a run since the 1st inning of his first start of the year 31 innings and only allowing 1 earned run is impressive at ANY level
  8. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 3, 2017 -> 11:43 AM) How many TOR starters will be available though? I think Q's should be pretty safe as long as he keeps pitching well. To your point though, we should be aggressive with the back-end guys like Gonzalez & Holland. I'd start seriously marketing these guys as soon as June. The market #4 starters could be saturated by July 31st. I don't see many TOR starters being available at the deadline at will be under lengthy team control. Rental players do not come cheap either, and a team may have an easier time justifying a longer term piece like Quintana over an expensive three month rental
  9. QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 1, 2017 -> 12:32 PM) Maybe, maybe not. The Astros didn't get squat from its sell-off. But the Sox certainly need to draft better. You do have to dig extra deep on top prospects that teams are willing to deal. Often personality issues, or the teams believe that they are stunted. That's another reason I'm good with non-touted prospects with upside for our second-tier players to trade (like Robertson). Too early to say, I agree Giolito has had a tough month, no doubt, but it's far too soon to write him off as a prospect. Tough for any scout to declare Giolito, Lopez, Fulmer, Hansen, Adams and Kopech as non-starters at this point in their development Fulmer has shown encouraging signs, especially cutting down on the walks
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 1, 2017 -> 09:52 AM) BUT DOES HE FOLLOW BEER???? http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2017?list=draft MLB.com has released an updated top 100 2017 mlb draft prospect rankings For what it is worth, we should be able to land a player with a "55" scouting future value at #11 overall
  11. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 11:21 PM) Hey, so this thread is about Dunning. Congrats to him, he's definitely an exciting follow, and I look forward to being able to watch him pitch with my Milb.tv subscription. Polished college arms like Dunning should perform well in the low minors, but I would argue that Dunning has so far exceeded those expectations considerably. He has plus control which really helps his stuff play up. He rarely issues walks, forcing the other team to work hard for every run. I would not be surprised if his success continues at high A ball, leading to another promotion to AA later this season. While it's too soon to say who the best prospect in the Eaton deal will be, I would not bet against Dunning because he has an excellent starter's frame at 6'4", 200 lbs, and has plus control.
  12. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 30, 2017 -> 02:27 PM) Snagging Haseley and Montes de Oca would definitely be my ideal first two picks. Not sure how Montes de Oca would be worth a top 50 draft selection? He's had quite a bit of injury trouble that would make many other -players much better selection in the top few rounds
  13. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 30, 2017 -> 11:41 PM) I look at Avi the same way. He looks a little bit foot twisted when he hits 1st base some times. Really tough break, and I hate to see that happen to Eaton Injuries are part of the game, and he is under contract long enough to bounce back.
  14. QUOTE (ron883 @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 04:50 PM) It would have to be an Addison Russell type deal. Robertson + Miguel gonzalez + for him honestly. I'd love to get Robles. Washington won't deal Robles with Harper poised to leave for free agency in two seasons. They want to keep Robles as his replacement.
  15. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Apr 27, 2017 -> 06:33 PM) If they offer Robles I would drive Robertson to Washington myself I would as well
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 03:31 PM) If the kid puts up an entire years of this, MAYBE we can start to drop Champan's name. MAYBE. Realistically, the odds are about a thousand times better that this month is a fluke, and the kid will fall back to earth soon, versus his being in Aroldis's league. If Kahnle pitched an entire season like this his numbers would be insane In 50 innings he would have roughly 107 k's
  17. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 12:40 PM) Jonathan Mayo @JonathanMayo I bet they would love it if Haseley got to them. If I Had My Druthers @chisox2727 Replying to @JonathanMayo and @MLBDraft who do you see as possible options for the White Sox? Haseley is playing well enough that I don't think he will fall out of the top 10 picks
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 12:49 PM) Just goes to show, developing pitchers takes time and as they work through it the most incremental change can suddenly make them dominant. Our bullpen could potentially have some serious flamethrowers once Burdi makes it to the majors Jones, Kahnle and Burdi all can top 100
  19. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 11:29 AM) This is absolutely amazing I didn't know who it was until that post either haha This is amazing
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 12:00 PM) Didn't we trade for him? Says we picked him up after DFA We traded Yency Almonte for him, currently Colorado Rockies' #16 prospect in what was beginning to look like a regrettable move as Almonte has pitched very well Good to see Kahnle starting to produce as we were wishing we kept Almonte as recently as a few weeks ago
  21. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 11:47 AM) Happy to see Sale pitching so well but still happy with the trade. Both teams got what they were after. Trade can be win win for each club I wish Sale the best
  22. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 09:11 AM) My #1 crush haha I think he was implying that it was the top guy he wanted. I've had all the guys I wanted the Sox to take in the first round get drafted. Granted, a lot of us likely wanted all of those guys but still. A lot were definitely not into the Collins pick at first. I wanted Kyle Lewis last year Even though he got injured, I still think he would have been a quality pick
  23. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 27, 2017 -> 09:37 AM) Unless of course they make a desperation type of offer. Kinda doubting Robertson ends up in Washington at this point. If a deal was going to happen it likely would have happened already.
  24. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 27, 2017 -> 10:15 AM) Yeah sorry I said list but I meant don't copy paste the whole article. Understood Didn't think the whole article is necessary anyway. I held off forever in getting an ESPN subscription, but finally caved recently because I wanted to see if insider was worth it
  25. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Apr 26, 2017 -> 04:34 PM) MLBRosterMoves @MLBRosterMoves 1m .@Nationals place RHP Koda Glover (left hip impingement) on 10-day DL, recall LHP Matt Grace from Triple-A Syracuse. The hits keep coming for their pen. A thin bullpen is a recipe for playoff disaster
