QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 08:07 AM) Some posters are too infatuated with strikeouts. I guarantee if Giolito had 10 K's instead of 8, we wouldn't be hearing nearly as much regardless of the 3 runs he gave up. Yes and no Adams is still young, but the lack of strikeouts at the AA level does not bode well for when he has to face more disciplined AAA and major league hitters Right now he's a 45-50 grade overall pitcher, with good control, but averageish stuff. There's still some projection in his frame, but I have doubts he ever becomes more than a backend starter.

White Sox have "set" Luis Robert market

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 01:14 PM) Jim CallisVerified account @jimcallisMLB 48m48 minutes ago Jim Callis Retweeted jsanchez1878 Yes, Robert should jump into the top 25 on our Top 100 somewhere as soon as he signs. How much are the Sox willing to pony up to land a top 25 overall prospect to our system at a position where we are thin? Sox front office is likely all in if this rebuild is serious -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 11:36 AM) Sure because that makes sense. I wrote an entire article on this though. Badler specifically mentioned the Sox as the team that kept coming up the most in discussions about where he'd land. He even said Sox could blow past pools to sign him. The Sox don't have any current rumored signings for the next period. This is a big factor IMO. They can sign him for any amount and just pay the tax. They won't be reneging on any offers with players for the next period. It being the White Sox makes complete sense. We all hope so Despite being cleared I don't expect Robert to sign until May or early June after he does a few more workouts -

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 11:23 AM) If the Astros spent $35 million for Robert, that's $70 million, plus $15 million already taxed and spent, so an $85 million dollar international free agent spend. They increased payroll to $124 million, up 25% from last year. I just don't buy it. I don't see Robert getting $35 million either I can see $15-20 million (double for the average tax), but sinking $70 million into one young player is a ton of dough Teams do have spending limitations and need to save for future flexibility -

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 11:13 AM) Yeah, Houston is probably the definitive favorite right now as he worked out for them and then "postponed" the rest of his work outs. I think the Sox chance at Robert isn't great at this point as I anticipate that the price for him is going to well exceed what they are comfortable to dolling out. I can see him getting close to $35M which would end up costing the team $70M. I wouldn't necessarily consider Houston the favorite If he wants to get to the majors sooner, instead of later the White Sox offer potentially the fastest path For all we know the Sox have been saving their money to make a run for Robert this whole time -

QUOTE (daggins @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 11:10 AM) Prior to that Badler update, i'd have pegged us at like 20%. Now? Maybe 5-10%. Sox seem to very much be in the mix This seems to be a fish we need to reel in, and the organization knows it -

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 11:08 AM) I'm sure it's in this thread somewhere, but how close is he supposed to be to the majors? Likely years away from the majors He will need development time in the low minors to start with -

QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 11:04 AM) Ok, so $h!t has officially gotten real? What do put our chances at him, 25%? Tough break for the Sox that he got cleared early But I will say it's about time we opened up the checkbook to get some talent in our system -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 10:55 AM) http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2017?list=was That's their list. Tons of international signings. Soto, Kieboom, Antuna, and Luzardo are the guys I'd target from them. Washington really needs the bullpen to flounder more before they would be willing to give up more significant prospects Their once fairly strong system is missing Giolito, Lopez and Dunning as pitching depth for the future
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 12:15 PM) A floor of? No. The guys floor is a minor league wash out who never sees the upper minors. I think the lack of pop limits him to a future utility role, but I hope he surprises us
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 10:37 AM) Neither player listed is a Top 100 player. Soto isn't even a top 10 guy for Washington. MLB.com currently has Soto as their #3 overall prospect He would be a fantastic return for Robertson as I think he is a player who will rise up the top 100 prospect lists by mid season

QUOTE (turnin' two @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 04:48 PM) Well, I suppose Kendall would be acceptable if he were around at 11... If Kendall falls it will be due to his high K% rate Hard to argue with Wright if he is on the board at #11

QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 02:13 PM) Very poor. How about Ryan Sweeney would he count? http://www.scout.com/mlb/scouting/story/17...-mock-draft-1-0 New 1st round mock draft from SCout.com "11. Chicago White Sox - Kyle Wright, RHP, Vanderbilt Wright has had a rough year for Vanderbilt. He started the year in the running for the top pick and was the number one pitcher on some boards. Here it is just a matter of him being too good of a value to pass up, along with an organization that is one of the best at developing pitchers. They could view this as getting a top five talent at 11. If they can help fix Hansen, then Wright would be easy. The White Sox have so many high ceiling arms, but you can never have enough of them. If you do end up being the rare team with too much starting pitching, then you have the most valuable trade asset in the game. "

QUOTE (oldsox @ Apr 15, 2017 -> 07:06 AM) Mitch Roman and Ian Hamilton. Both had great years last year as rookies, and both have gotten off to very hot starts this month. Roman is interesting as a future utility guy Hamilton seems like his ceiling is a middle reliever

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 10:59 AM) Wow. Apparently the heroin epidemic has hit Soxtalk. Extending Avi? Trading Avi for Schwarber? Step one is admitting you have a problem. Get help. Drawing conclusions about a player less than a month into the season is extremely foolish For example Mat Latos was excellent in April in 2016, but awfuyl in May leading to the Sox DFA'ing him Garcia looks promising so far, but I need to see another solid 1-2 months of production before we can make any determination that this isn't just a crazy hot streak

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 08:01 PM) Dunning needs to be challenged. That's it. Tmrw we get another Giolito start, hopefully we can see some actual results of the "process." Dunning has been fantastic so far in the minor leagues 55.2 ip , 37 h, 9 er, 1 hr, 8 bb, 58 k 0.808 WHIP with a 1.46 ERA Pretty sure everyone would like to see what he can do against better competition at the AA level. I'm not sure high A would even be all that challenging with his advanced control?
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 10:27 AM) And odd enough in his first pro year he was much better as a right-handed hitter Pretty strange splits indeed I think it has to do with the relatively small sample size of minor league at bats that Moncada has had up until this point
-
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 10:33 AM) Eh he's a major league platoon/4th OF. As far as I can recall, the White Sox have not drafted and gotten a starting caliber high school position player to the majors in recent memory
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 09:39 AM) Trayce Thompson? Perhaps, although I'd consider Thompson to be a AAAA player at this point
-
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 12:23 PM) That was a different org, lots of new people in the development department Different since 2012? I have my doubts When is the last time the White Sox took a high school position player and successfully got him to the major leagues?

Update: Luis Robert has been cleared according to Rosenthal

QUOTE (Nokona @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 04:34 PM) Go all in. He'd be like getting a #1 pick. You leverage that with our 11 & a future top 5 (top 3?) pick next year and we've done some major overhauling to the top end of our system even without the trades. Can't see Hahn and Co. letting Robert get away unless the money ended up being astronomical Even those teams with incentive to exceed the spending cap have limitations on how much of ownership's money they can sink into a single prospect We should be in fine shape to make a run for him -
QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 04:24 PM) As far as I'm concerned the terrible starts of blue jays, cards, mariners and cards is all bad news. But the season is young, and they were all likely wildcard teams to start. It's way too soon to judge a hot or cold start No playoff spots are determined in April, let alone May No team is buying or selling right now

QUOTE (striker @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 03:46 PM) Paulino is too injury prone. I think he's even injured now. Give me Tucker, Reed, Perez, Whitley That would be a tremendous prospect haul If our ask was Musgrove + Tucker + Martes and they balked, I can't see us lowering our sights too much beyond that That is a depth package I could get behind

QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 12:09 PM) Mitch Roman is intriguing to me, is he a poor man's Kevin Newman? Roman seems to be able to hit for solid average, with zero power Not sure about his defense though. To be any thing more than a utility player he would have to be able to stick at SS or CF defensively due to the lack of power Still, if he could ever turn into a decent utility player that is outstanding value in the 12th round

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 01:17 PM) As far as I'm concerned, the Sox need to sign him at whatever price. Elite talents like Robert don't come along often...especially ones that fit the "window" to a tee. It's very likely that the front office agrees with you Otani is not likely a realistic target, but I can see the Sox going all in on a talent like Robert We're all guessing the plan looks something like: 1) Sign Robert at nearly any cost within reason 2) Scout and Draft well with #11 pick and subsequent rounds 3) Leverage what trade assets you have between now and the deadline (Quintana, Robertson, Frazier, Cabrera, etc.) to boost the farm 4) Be prepared to spend on international and/or mlb free agents that fit into our rebuild
