  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 02:35 PM) Pittsburgh most likely isn't a playoff team without Marte and no Kang. Plus even if the make the playoffs, Marte would be ineligible. Meadows was never on the table for Quintana as far as we know. If he was I would imagine a deal could be made http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2704212...-about-for-2017 This article suggests Martes is untouchable to the Astros, but that Musgrove, Tucker, Paulino + could be a possible structure. I personally do not think that gets it done. Paulino has flashed plus stuff, but has had quite a bit of trouble staying healthy Tucker is a good prospect who we could use Musgrove I like, but he as well has had injury issues creep up which have limited his innings The final piece would have to be substantial in order for it to be entertained
  2. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 05:52 PM) He looks good and he looks healthy. Positive vibes so far from pretty much the entire pitching staff other than Q. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2704212...-about-for-2017 I don't think the Sox will move Robertson and pick up salary unless the return is better than this article is suggesting. Robertson could be one of the best relievers available at the deadline and it would be foolish to waste that trade chip right now for the sake of making a deal Plus, since when are players like Kieboom and Voth untouchable?
  3. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 12:44 PM) This doesn't change anything. He was always likely to be cleared in this current period. It's tough for MLB to justify holding him out until J2 because he's established residency. The Sox have no excuse not to get him if they want him. They should be able to outspend San Diego, Houston, St. Louis, and Cincinnati. They also don't have any agreements for top players in next period which tells me they will be all in on this guy. If they miss on him, and then don't have agreements with guys for upcoming J2 period, they've really botched this thing. I think they are one of the primary contenders for him like Badler confirmed on twitter today. I fully expect the Sox to be very involved on Robert You're right, there is really no excuse for them to play poor and not make a strong bid for a player our system could really use We have really no huge contracts on the books beyond the end of next season, and investing in the farm is crucial for a rebuilding club.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 12:13 PM) I still have a hard time seeing the Sox outbidding all of the teams who are already over the caps for this year if he is cleared early. Sox do have money to spend, but I can't see them going nuts in a bidding war either Teams already over have more incentive to continue to spend, but I would not rule the White Sox out if they feel strongly enough about him
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 12:07 PM) A lot of people think our window to contention is going to be really short. I am not against a high school player at #11 overall Adell's hit tool scares me, as I think of when the Sox drafted Courtney Hawkins as the toolsy high schooler out of Texas The hit tool never came around and now Hawkins is essentially a non-prospect I think the Sox will look to a college position player or pitcher for the first round
  6. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 11:05 AM) Lots of bats both college and prep have helium lately. Hasely, Smith, Beck, Hiura. One should be around for the Sox or they possibly could get some great value on a pitcher that falls in their lap. Though my preference is a hitter at this point all things being equal. I'm right there with you Greene, Kendall, Lewis, Faedo, Wright, Bukauskas, McKay, Hasely all figure to be off the board before the Sox pick Smith, Beck, Hiura, Houck, Lange, Adell, Hall, Enlow, Gore, Rogers all may be available though
  7. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 10:43 AM) I thought it was obvious he was referring to Cain as just a rental piece. Noted. Cain would be useful if healthy to a contender in need of a solid outfielder
  8. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 08:35 AM) Duffy signed a 5 year extension with them. My guess is that they sign Hosmer and let Cain, Moustakas, and Escobar walk or trade them at the deadline. Cain would be a big addition for someone. Cain is a really good player, but I'd be hesitant to sign a player who will be 32 years old next April to a long term deal He likely has a couple quality seasons left before he goes into decline and it's generally not worth paying top dollar for that
  9. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 01:04 PM) Haseley won't make it to the Sox at this rate. He's definitely the guy I like in the early going though. Pavin Smith might have played himself into the top 10, but his bat and approach seem very refined He could be a quick to the majors college bat. Some scouts feel he might be able to play in the outfield, and his defense at first base rates very well Jordon Adell scream boom or bust prospect, I'd almost rather go with a closer to the majors talent that could help us sooner rather than later All really depends on who is available
  10. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 01:04 PM) Haseley won't make it to the Sox at this rate. He's definitely the guy I like in the early going though. Agreed, it's doubtful Haseley will fall out of the top ten picks at this point Wright is likely putting himself back into the top 10 with recent stronger performances
  11. QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 04:03 PM) One thing that is already driving me crazy is the notion of whenever a player has a good game or week the tendency of a bunch of fans to say TRADE HIM NOW like that is at all the way that things work, especially two weeks into the season. Robertson's contract will look more palatable at the trade deadline to a contending team in need of bullpen help Washington makes too much sense, but they are totally unwilling at this point to trade more of their top prospects
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 03:18 PM) In a case like Robertson it is much easier to assume that the fraction of a season where he was bad is the aberration versus this fraction of a season where he is more in line with the entire rest of his career. It's hard to assume trade value two weeks into the season, there's so much time for situations to change Right now no team will be making trades barring a huge injury, it's just too early Could Robertson be one of the better relief options on the market? Absolutely, and we should all hope that he is
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 02:09 PM) Last year he hit .245 with a .309 OBP. I need to see way more than two good weeks to declare Avi anything more than a sub replacement level player Anyone can get hot for a month, but he needs to sustain the hitting over several months for me to buy in
  14. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 02:26 PM) I don't think Happ is that outrageous. Robertson is not an elite closer, but he's at the next level. Happ, however, isn't an elite prospect - he, too, is at the next level. Plus factor in that if the Cubs want a Sox player, they will pay a small premium. Conclusion - not that unreasonable. I expect, however, a 50-75 prospect for him. Happ is ahead of that. We are getting totally ahead of ourselves right now Robertson has pitched an excellent 5 innings so far this season, but it's stiff such a small sample size that you cannot necessarily say "he's back" just yet The pitching staff has overachieved the first two weeks of the season and is due for serious regression, especially from Holland and Shields
  15. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 01:25 PM) Willy Garcia is interesting. He is still young and wasn't awful in the minors by any stretch, he could finally put everything together and be a good corner OF for us. Dane Dunning was spectacular in his second minor league start of the year: 8 IP, 3 H, 1R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 13 K I'm very high on Dunning and think he could quickly rise through the minor league system and be helping the Sox at the mlb level sooner, rather than later as a mid rotation starter
  16. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 02:14 PM) Besides Kaprilian (major spelling error here) what do yhe Yankees have in the minors for pitching? Once Tanaka opts out and Sabathia is gone what options will they have? http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2017?list=nyy Sheffield Adams Montgomery Acevedo Abreu Tate Clarkin Green
  17. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 02:00 PM) They basically need Heyward to put up a good season this year and next or next year and the year after and hope he opts out. Perhaps, but they cannot assume that he will opt out when he is on a stacked contending team Jimenez, Candelario and Happ have nowhere to play or get regular at bats and will have to be dealt unless room is made for them
  18. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 01:37 PM) I think Happ's arm is average or a tick better but not sure about his defense. According to the top 100, Happ looks destined for LF. If we can survive Melky in LF I'm sure Happ would be just fine. His bat and eye are what I'm after. Agree about Davidson and Delmonico. Both should be 1B/DH. I like Saladino and he's fine for third base, I just like Candelerio's age, SH bat and potential for 20HR+ at the 3B position. One thing for sure, Happ and Candelerio both are hot in Iowa right now. Cubs may end up looking to trade Schwarber for pitching and call up Happ. I don't count on the Sox and cubs actually making a trade but it is interesting to talk about because the teams match up so well for a trade. Cubs will not trade Schwarber Happ, Jimenez and Candelario are all totally blocked at the mlb level with no opportunity for playign time in sight Baez is their 2B, Russell is their SS, Bryant is 3B, Rizzo at 1B, Schwarber will be in left, Heyward in right, and likely Almora in center They will be forced to trade off the current roster to make space, or the more likely route would be to trade those pieces for mlb pitching to replace Lackey and Arrieta after this season Quintana would make a ton of sense, but won't come cheap
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 10:45 AM) Yeah, so far there have to be a couple of teams kicking themselves at this point. Terrible news for Kaprelian He's 23 years old already and has barely pitched in the minor leagues. This sets his timetable to the majors back significantly as he loses this entire season of development, possibly some of next
  20. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 02:51 PM) I have a hard time seeing it as well. Seems to have some helium though in a college position player starved draft. I'd be uncomfortable spending a top 5 pick on a 1B/DH type college player unless the bat were off the charts good At #11 it might make some sense if he is on the board
  21. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 08:59 AM) Frankie Piliere‏Verified account @FPiliereD1 25m25 minutes ago Pavin Smith had a 4 hit game yesterday for @UVABaseball and continues to become a very intriguing candidate for the #1 overall pick Smith has had a strong season, but highly doubtful that a college 1B would be selected #1 overall. I don't believe that it has happened before
  22. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 12:19 PM) I don't think Law has a White Sox bias, but IMO he purposely goes for some shock rankings to drive traffic/attention. Tatis Jr. in the top 50 is a perfect example of a "shock" ranking based off little tangible production I'm not saying he will or will not pan out, but putting him that high will certainly get attention when no other publication even has him in the top 100
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 11:50 AM) He was calling on Sale to fail when he was succeeding. Way, way, way off. It's one thing to say a guy has potential (Hawkins) to be great, has a ton of tools, and they fail. Just look what he wrote about Sale's slider. He said it sucked, and always will suck. His ceiling for Sale's slider, turned out to be way lower than the actual floor. I'm more confident about Moncada being a very solid major league player than I am about Kopech ever reaching his ceiling I hope he does, but there is still quite a bit of development to go for Kopech. He has barely thrown in the minors yet and needs another two full seasons of reps to get his innings totals up. Giolito I am concerned about. His delivery lacks deception, and his fastball velocity is in the low 90's. He is not showing top of the rotation stuff.
  24. QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 09:05 AM) You can report me but I am the head of the Soxtalk Ministry of Apostrophes. It's going to be a LONG rebuild if we are at one another's throats over punctuation this early Just wait until the inevitable losses start piling up
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 08:43 AM) It didn't happen unless there was a period at the end Oh jeez, I'm going to get fried for this hahaha I'm stuck in my ways, I like making people puke
