QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 04:17 PM) steveno, always wanted to ask you - what do you have against periods? Haha, it seems formal for a message board Does it bother you that much?

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 03:57 PM) Jiminez, Happ, Candelerio, and a flyer is kind of the ideal trade for the Sox rebuild. Three top 100 hitting prospects (including two in the top 30) really helps with the rebuild. Makes sense from the Cubs side as well since Happ and Candelerio look blocked for the foreseeable future. If Almora hits for them this year, then Jimenez is as well. It doesn't make sense to gut the farm when they very well could need that depth in the future They will need to replace Lackey and Arrieta (assuming he does not resign), but I see them using other means than depleting the farm

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 02:48 PM) Cubs have some nice hitting prospects to offer. Jimenez, Almora and Candelerio are pretty interesting too. Can't see them dealing what it would take: Jimenez, Happ and Candelario start the conversation I think

QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 02:19 PM) Cubs and Dodgers are particularly intriguing. A guy like Ian Happ would look great in black and white pinstripes Tough to see the White Sox and Cubs getting together for a high profile trade, even if it made sense for each club I can see the Cubs being unwilling to ship off cheap young talent that they will need to help lower payroll costs as their core hits their more expensive arbitration years upcoming

QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 01:05 PM) I agree. Don't forget they have Chris Devenski and Martes who although maybe can't be stretched out for an extended playoff run this year are very, very capable pitchers. Same goes with Musgroves. The problem with the Astros is that they'll need a lot to go there way - but hey, didn't the Royals do that for a few years in a row? I can see the Astros bolstering their bullpen with trades of likes of Tony Kemp, etc. but I don't think they'll mortgage their future for Q. I mean looking at their rotation.. Keuchel, McHugh, McCullers, Morton, Musgrove, Fiers, Devenski, Martes So if you're talking about getting through a year I think they'll be fine, even with an injury or two. That's 8 pitchers for 5 spots. Right now the Astros do not NEED Quintana, but given the injury history of many of those players you have mentioned that situation could completely change I understand not wanting to gut the farm at this point, but halfway through the season, when you are in the middle of a division race and you have a fanbase clamoring to win...things can change

QUOTE (Soha @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 09:30 PM) I agree with this. If he sticks at catcher and is a great hitter, and you can find a big thumper to play 1B, you've come a long way towards an elite offense. Exactly Our farm currently does not have a high upside 1B/DH type player in it now, but that doesn't mean one won't be added over time Keeping Collins at catcher allows you to stuff the lineup with another plus hitting 1B/DH, strengthening the entire offense I see Collins as having similar upside to a young Mike Napoli

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 08:06 PM) Otani might just be available to the Sox and just about every other team next year. Perhaps the AL has the edge in getting him. If his agreement with the Ham Fighters management is that he can leave when he wants to, is posting him even necessary ? Wouldn't he just say sayonara to Japan and come as a free agent ? Sox could use him as a pitcher and / or OF'er . He wants to play both in the States and the teams that agree to that stipulation will have the best chance. I do not see the White Sox winning a bidding war for Otani Period.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 09:30 AM) Me too. The only time I wanted Glasnow was when we were trading Peavy. He's far enough into his development that not throwing strikes at this stage is cause for great concern His command is 40 Grade at best, leading to tons of deep counts and loads of walks. Only 22 of his 43 pitches were for strikes in his recent start and that just will not cut it at the mlb level. I am concerned about Giolito's bust risk, but at least he doesn't regularly walk batters Glasnow to me will end up being a two pitch reliever, who might be effective in a setup role
-
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 10:40 PM) They're going to be fine going forward. I'm really high on Glasnow. Hard pass on Glasnow. The stuff is not that special and his control is terrible More patient mlb hitters will take the walks he dishes out, and sit on his fastball

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 03:50 PM) If the Pirates offer really was that, it is absolutely telling that the White Sox were able to get both Moncada and Kopech, plus a Basabe from Boston, yet no other team with a top rated farm system is willing to offer their best position player for Q. No Meadows. No Bergman. No Torres. No Swanson or Matain. That right there shows the market believes there is a pretty large difference between Q and Sale. None of those players...yet Remember Torres was dealt recently from the Cubs when they were in contention and really needed Chapman to solidify the back of their bullpen...a similar situation could happen at the deadline when a contender needs a starter

QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 11:40 AM) I tend to agree with CWS here. Alvarez can really get on base but he's hit a pretty decent wall in the upper levels in the minors. I am no going to say the drop down to AA was an indictment on him given the addition to Moncada, but Alvarez needs to put together a serious year this year to hold any prospect. He has little power and isn't an everyday SS. Great story, but he's not a sleeper for long if he is now. Guys I think will improve on their rankings on their performance alone: Collins - This guy can be an offensive force. Sox said they got the top bat in draft on draft night. I am closer to believing them now than I was in June. Dunning - A ball won't challenge this guy. Lack of spotlight at Florida may have discounted scouts' opportunity to see his ability. Throws strikes and has better stuff than advertised. Bernardo Flores - Not sure he stays as a starter long term but his repertoire is totally different than what scouts saw in college. A bit thin, but amazing the Sox got a 6'3" lefty rushing it up there (topped at 97) who has a semblance of secondary offerings in the 7th round. Clark - Dude gets outs. Simple as that. Not sexy by any means but I won't be surprised if he has a career in the big leagues that's much more than a AAAA guy. Luis Martinez - Started to put it together last year. Started this year with an injury, but good stuff, good frame and has he has gotten reps, the results have followed. Big year for the already 22 year old in W-S. Victor Diaz - I've talked about him before but really simple stuff here. The makings of a late reliever. Dunning I expect to surprise people this season His stuff appears solid and he already is pretty polished I could see him sneaking into the back of the top 100 prospects by midseason if he performs like he is capable of

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 12:20 PM) So far at least, this has held up to be true. Sale and Eaton both went quickly on the trade market. The Sox got a huge price, and got it almost immediately. Q has sat on the market all winter long, as as far as we can tell, the Sox aren't even asking for as much as they were with Sale, and still haven't gotten it paid by anyone. In fact, as far as we can tell, teams are still not willing to pay that reduced price. That, or the Sox just haven't loved what has been offered yet The Q hammer will fall eventually
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 03:25 PM) Q won't be bringing back Bellinger I don't think LA will move Bellinger either, but it would take a heck of a depth package for LA to be able to get a deal doen without him
-
QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 03:21 PM) That's all true. I'm not saying it's right or wrong but it's a good debate. Just because the position is more valuable WHEN he gets to the MLB, doesn't mean it's more valuable than losing two years of his career and production. I agree with you Teams can go a decade without finding a decent starting catcher, whereas it's much easier to find a bat to plug in 1b/dh I'd be willing to develop him an additional season or two if it means he can be a starting mlb catcher defensively
-
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Apr 6, 2017 -> 02:25 PM) I'm not the biggest Chris Crawford fan, but here's his updated top 100. http://m.herosports.com/mlb-draft/top-100-...s-big-move-c6c6 I don't see Burger lasting until #32 if he keeps up the hitting pace that he is on Even if he can't stick at 3rd, the bat seems legit
-
QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 02:56 PM) What if it takes an extra 2 years to catch up defensively before he makes it to the MLB. Is it worth it to have his bat out of the MLB line up for two years? The value of a plus hitting catcher who is passable behind the plate is arguably the most valuable position on the diamond, position player wise Most mlb catchers are not great hitters You absolutely let Collins develop as a catcher until you are forced to move him to 1B/DH 1B/DH can be filled by nearly anybody who can hit, catcher not so much Plus, if you move Collins off of catcher as you are saying, who catches? We are left with a hole and are searching for other catchers still Much easier to find 1B/DH that starting caliber backstops
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 01:13 PM) Agreed. If Collins bat becomes something special/star like, I'd like to see him moved to first. Keep his knees healthy and his bat in the lineup. I see Collins as a long time White Sox player for years to come so I'm not concerned about his positional value. Collins eye and power reminds me a bit of Joey Votto. You can always move him to 1B/DH later in his career, but the value of having an average defensive catcher who is a plus hitter with pop is too huge to pass up Instead of having a black hole at catcher, you can have Collins bat in the lineup AND have a 1B and DH that can also hit well, which really strengthens the overall lineup a ton Him sticking at catcher boosts his WAR big time annually

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 12:38 PM) So if we don't end up signing Robert, this wouldn't be a terrible alternative imo. Don't see the Sox getting involved in spending what it would take to get Ohtani Robert seems to be their primary target
-
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 12:15 PM) He could be a star for them regardless of where he is playing. I'm of the mind that if he bat really plays that they should move him from off the plate Way too early to move him off of catcher Sox should do everything possible to try and get him to stick behidn the plate. The value of having a plus hitting catcher with pop is massive. His bat is far less valuable at 1B or DH
-
QUOTE (southside hitman @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 10:13 AM) Collins bat is nearly MLB ready, he is in Winston-Salem to work on catching. He is going to put up some crazy numbers in the Carolina League before they promote him to Birmingham. I fully expect Collins to tear up high A ball at the plate He has a great hitting approach and knows how to take walks If he can stick at catcher he could be a star for the White Sox

Update: Luis Robert has been cleared according to Rosenthal

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 6, 2017 -> 10:25 AM) Keith Law has no White Sox bias. This is absurd. Michael Kopech is his 7th ranked prospect in all of baseball and #1 pitching prospect in the game. Law wasn't high on Moncada or Cespedes either. On pure potential, I would agree that Kopech's ceiling is as high as any pitching prospect in the game If healthy, and with further development and polish he could reasonably be a starting pitcher that brings mid to upper 90's heat, with a plus slider and developing changeup His floor is still a high leverage reliever, who can come out of the pen and blow you away with 100+ mph heat and slider combo -
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 02:37 PM) Glad the Padres beat the Dodgers yesterday, a team that should pound them plenty. Clayton Richard shutting down the Dodgers is something to behold The Padres will lose a ton of games this season regardless

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 01:44 PM) https://www.fanragsports.com/news/heyman-wh...l-mike-pelfrey/ It's done and apparently he's going right into our rotation. Going to be some ugly starts from Shields and Pelfrey this season
-
QUOTE (Blackout Friday @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 01:39 PM) If we really want to tank just bring back tank If we were looking for a garbage starting pitcher for depth, why wouldn't we look into Doug Fister? His trend liens are not good, but as recently as three seasons ago he was an above average starter Pelfrey has been awful for years
-
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 01:23 PM) Yes! The tank is on haha Exactly what I though upon reading this A minor league deal is smart for both sides because: 1) No lose situation for the Sox 2) Pelfrey knows that he actually has a legit chance to crack into the rotation at some point this season due to injuries and/or a trade 3) Pelfrey will help us tank even more
