QUOTE (beautox @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 08:56 PM) Quintana & Jennings for Martes/Tucker/Reed/Laureano/Stubbs That package feels like to much talent leaving the astros to be honest That's five of their top 12 organizational prospects... Not happening
-
QUOTE (ecupittfan @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 03:57 PM) So James Shields throws 6 shutout innings and now has a 2.53 ERA 1.031Ratio and 10 Ks in 10.7 innings. Its a long shot but if Shields somehow ends up with an ERA hovering at under 4.00 towards the trade deadline then we can actually get something for him. We all can only hope that happens If Shields is decent in the first half he will be flipped
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 04:44 PM) Once you get past Martes and Tucker in the deal, the rest of the guys the Sox would be getting are probably B to C level prospects. If I had to be realistic and predict a possible trade for both sides: Martes + Tucker + Hernandez or Laureano + Alcala
-
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 04:36 PM) Probably, but I guess Tucker and especially Martes don't get me all that excited. I want depth if we deal with the Stros. They might not be truly elite prospects, but they are the best in the Astros farm by a considerable margin The Astros have the farm to make a deal happen, but seem reluctant to pull the trigger at a time when they absolutely should go all in

QUOTE (yesterday333 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 04:21 PM) Is nobody interested in Yordan Alverez? I know he is a 1b but he seems like an interesting prospect to me. As a final deal sweetener? perhaps, but as a significant piece? No way His value is 100% tied to the bat, as he projects as a below average fielder with below average speed at first base
-
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 04:12 PM) Then no soup for you. Martes and Tucker are musts. Then two of Fischer, Reed, Perez, Whitley and Stubbs. I would personally be OK with no Martes, but I'd want something like Tucker, Fischer, Reed, Stubbs and Perez in that case. Wishful thinking No organization is going to send (5) top 15 organizational prospects in exchange for 1 player This has been talked about to death over the winter End of the day a potential deal will look like: 2 top 5 organizational prospects (that are top 50 overall talents) plus one or two more B level prospects to round out the deal
-
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 04:07 PM) My guess is the White Sox want Torres and want to deal with the Yankees. Torres is not being moved by the Yankees, lets face it Pirates won't part with what it would take Braves or Astros make the most sense
-
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 03:54 PM) Hopefully the fact that they draft 4 times before the 3rd round even helps persuade them that they can take the hit. They may not draft as good of prospects (which they could) but the lesser round guys at least helps replenish depth. Eventually a contender (like the Astros) will realize it wants to win right now, and worry less about 5 years from now
-
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 03:39 PM) I'd be underwhelmed. "Martes and Tucker and after that I would love: One of: Franklin Perez Ramon Laureano Garrett Stubbs One of: Daz Cameron Jason Martin Miguelangel Sierra" Martes + Tucker + Perez/Laureano/Stubbs + Cameron/Martin/Sierra would be a very compelling offer that I would find hard to pass up I do not see Houston being willing to offer up 4 top 12 organizational prospects though

QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 03:25 PM) Of course and I get that; however, there has been a reticence to name him when he is clearly healthy and the man for the job. I still would say 90% chance that Quintana is on the White Sox roster by opening day Teams know the price, Sox have zero reason to budge

Lopez/Giolito/Kopech/Moncada/Fulmer sent down
steveno89 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 03:14 PM) The one player that is interesting to see if he is changing minds is Lopez. Could he win a job? No chance they call up Lopez until late May/early June It would be a big mistake to start his service clock before we have to -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 01:29 PM) Yeah, so he got claimed, and now he's shown to be healthy which was a big part of the question with him. I'd be surprised if he cleared waivers, but we'll see. Brian Clark is the only "young" lefty getting a real look at that level, and he's not quite ready yet. The team may not elect to carry a 2nd lefty at all, but if they do, Luebke is the guy. Liriano has not had a great spring, outside of showing that he appears to be healthy They might be able to sneak him through waivers
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 01:20 PM) His spring stats are better than I thought, but still, I don't think he'd have much deadline value even if he was decent and I'd rather give a younger guy his spot. What other young lefty would you rather go with? Clark is the only other lefty, and I feel the organization would like him to spend a bit more time in the minors before getting called up
-
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 06:26 AM) I think that Jo Adell is better than Hawkins at this stage. I could be in the minority, that 2012 class was stacked. He might be, but I have a feeling he will be selected prior to the #11 overall pick We should have a nice selection of players that could arguably have gone top 10
-
QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 01:08 PM) I've heard the Sox want to get Liriano to AAA to work with him. I'd guess this. C - Soto/Narvaez 1B - Abreu 2B - Saladino/Sanchez 3B - Frazier SS - Anderson LF - Cabrera CF - Bourjos RF - Avi Garcia DH - Davidson/Ashe Bench: Soto/Narvaez, Saladino/Sanchez, Davidson/Ashe, Leury Garcia 1.) Quintana 2.) Rodon 3.) Shields 4.) Gonzalez 5.) Holland CL - Robertson SU - Jones LHP - Jennings RHP - Putnam RHP - Petricka RHP - Ynoa LHP - Luebke I'm with you on this prediction Barring any unforseen moves or injuries this will likely be our opening day roster
-
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 12:14 PM) No way. If he is cleared in this current signing period, I'll put money on the Padres. If cleared before June 15th then a team that has already blown through it's spending cap will likely go the extra mile to sign Robert as well If he clears after June 15th then I could see the Sox being one of the favorites Personally, I can the the mlb intentionally dragging its feet with this until after June 15th

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 11:33 AM) Agreed. It's a great deal for both sides. Anderson is financially set for life now and the Sox potentially got a steal of a deal and locked up one of their core pieces at the same time. Anderson will be in his prime for the duration of this extension so I'd have to think this deal is a win for the Sox as long as Anderson is a positive WAR player. I love Rodon but I don't see him signing an extension here. Hope I'm wrong. Worst case, we still have Rodon under team control through the 2022 season Players are smart to take the lesser money upfront, rather than risk injury or poor performance The choice is his to make, but you can bet the Anderson deal has got Rodon thinking if he should do the exact same thing?
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 11:18 AM) Do you really think the Sox are the frontrunners for Robert? I'd certainly hope so but they're hard to read because the front office keeps things quiet for the most part. Sox have a pretty strong connection to Cuban players Viciedo, El Duque, Contreras, Abreu, Ramirez, Moncada I could definitely see the Sox going all in on Robert, as a high upside outfielder would look awesome in our farm system right now
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 10:46 AM) I honestly don't know how anyone couldn't like this deal from the team's perspective. You have to love the deal from Anderson's perspective as well Imagine you are a 23 year old kid and you just signed a deal for a guaranteed $25 million pre tax. Welcome to the 1% Tim This is arguably even better from the player's point of view because the team is clearly invested in him moving forward and is willing to guaranty his future Rodon would be taking a pretty big risk by not taking a deal somewhat similar because the risk of injuries for pitchers is much higher than position players. Boras might be his agent, but if a player says "I want to ensure my future...do it" there's not much stopping him. Rodon taking a hard line approach could end up costing him millions if he gets injured prior to reaching free agency. Regardless, the Sox control his right through 2022, so it's not like he is goign anywhere anytime soon.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 10:26 AM) There is also a marketing element to this. The Sox want to keep their fans excited during what should be a somewhat painful rebuilding process and locking up a promising young talent helps build some goodwill. Perhaps this move is a year early, but the downside risk is so low that it's worth maintaining some positive momentum with the fans. This another reason why I fully expect us to land Luis Robert if he's declared in this free agent period. Hahn will want some to show some early signs of progress before the second half of this rebuild takes shape in June & July. We have to trust ownership and Hahn to be making the smart move here Sox genuinely approached Anderson and said they want to make him a big part of the team's future and came to a mutually beneficial agreement $25 million over 6 seasons is peanuts in the grand scheme of things. An overpayment over what he might make in arbitration? Probably, but those two option years could be expensive Teams are realizing that it's best to lock up a player until age 31 or so and then let them walk. We get Anderson for the prime of his career, which is gravy. If he is even a league average starting caliber SS, this deal will look great
-
QUOTE (Sox Fan In Husker Land @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 08:14 AM) Awesome. Sale signed his extension in March of 2013. It guaranteed him 5 years and $32.5 million, buying out one year of free agency for $12 million. And the team holding options on 2 more years of what would have been free agency for $26 million total. Quintana signed his extension in March of 2014. It guaranteed him 5 years $26.5 million (due to being arbitration eligible following 2014). The team then holds options for his 1st 2 years of what would have been free agency for $22 million. Eaton signed his extension in March of 2015. It guaranteed him 5 years and $23.5 million. The deal bought out what would have been his 1st year of free agency for $8.4 million and then gave the team 2 options for $20 million. I assume Anderson's 6 year deal will have 2 club options attached to it. What deals like this amount to is a mutual bet between club ownership and the player The player likes the security a deal like that gives him and his family. $25 million allows Tim to be set for life. The Sox are betting that he succeeds and gets to buy out two seasons of free agency at a significantly reduced rate via teams options I'm sure the Sox would love to approach Rodon about an extension, although I'm not sure if Boras would allow for it

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 08:13 AM) How/why are you guessing when it's already been posted multiple times above? Just got to work and had not read the article yet
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 08:10 AM) 2 years past free agency. "Anderson, the cornerstone of the White Sox’s future, will earn $850,000 this year, and could be tied up to the White Sox through the age of 31. The White Sox also have two club options on Anderson’s service, buying out all of his arbitration years and two years of free agency." Exactly what I thought would happen 6 year deal, with the Sox gaining two years of club options afterwards If Anderson gets anywhere close to his ceiling this is a great deal. His floor as a speedy, good defensive SS limits the risk here
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 08:08 AM) I'm kinda confused until we know how much additional control we have. I'm thinking the Sox need to have a few club option years attached to have this deal make sense? If not, I'm not sure how this will work in the Sox favor? I'm guessing it is 6 years, $25 million guaranteed with 2 years of club options afterwards at a reasonable sum of money Sox likely control him via options for upto 8 years

QUOTE (Butter Parque @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 05:10 PM) I like Timmy Anderson, but anyone who says that they feel better about him than they did about Beckham after his rookie year is lying. I remember everyone on this board creaming in their jeans when Harold Reynolds listed him as a future HOF'er during Spring Training that next year. Anderson is more athletic than Beckham was, has shown the ability to play plus defense at SS, and is much faster If he can improve his K% rate and improve his walk rate a bit, he will really be able to put his plus speed to use
